THE WOODLANDS THE WOODLANDS
CHRISTIAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY A C A D E M Y AUGUST 14, 2015
Head Of School Notes - by Julie Ambler Welcome to the 23rd year of The Woodlands Christian Academy! At this school, we boldly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we believe that our greatest opportunity is to equip future leaders to honor Him with their lives – spiritually, academically, physically and socially. We are grateful for the opportunity to challenge our students in an environment that engages in sincere prayer, rigorous study of the Scriptures, and authentic Christian fellowship. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we are redeemed and, thus, honored to serve and teach Him in all that we do here at Woodlands Christian. We have been blessed with significant enrollment growth this year. In spite of rejecting more than 35% of applicants, we are starting the year with 578 students, an increase of 9% over last year. We are especially pleased to welcome 161 outstanding new students. I hope you have read in the summer newsletters about the many amazing educators that have joined our already stellar faculty and administration, enabling us to expand our academic offerings. For exampleIn our lower school, we have created a piano lab with keyboards, headsets and iPads to teach music theory. We have enhanced our STEM programs in the classrooms and labs with a challenging on-line, hands-on curriculum from Rice and Texas A & M universities. We will be introducing a Spanish music and motor class in preschool and a Spanish language acquisition program developed by Middlebury College for 1st through 4th grades. In our middle school, we’ve grown to include our 5th graders and increased our fine
arts options with the addition of choir, theatre and speech programs. We’ve also adopted a study skills class for 5th and 8th grade students as well as the Middlebury College on-line Spanish and Latin electives for 8th graders. In our high school, we are offering nine Advanced Placement classes as well as new electives such as psychology, debate, technology tools, digital and media broadcasting, and robotics. We have designed an SAT/ACT preparation class for 11th graders and a senior seminar to prepare our 12th grade students to make wise choices in all aspects of college life. Beginning with this year’s freshman class, we are establishing an honors program and utilizing a weighted 5.0 GPA scale. Thanks to the tremendous generosity of our families at last year’s auction, we have made many improvements to our campus. We installed synthetic turf on our football field. We should finish our eight-lane 400-meter track within the next two weeks. We are expecting delivery of materials to build stadium seating for 1,000 Warrior fans by the end of August and hope to complete construction by the end of September. We have also built a new monument sign around our main flagpoles, enhanced with Austin stone pillars and wrought iron fencing. It is truly a privilege to partner with you in the education of your precious children. We are humbled by your trust, and we are looking forward to an outstanding school year!
