COMMUNITY NEWS Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center was one of three Memorial Hermann Health System hospitals to earn national recognition as a top performer for excellence in delivering high-quality care by the Vizient Quality and Accountability Ranking at the 2019 Vizient Connections Education Summit in Las Vegas on Sept. 19. “It is a tremendous honor to be part of the special Memorial Hermann The Woodlands team and to be recognized nationally by Vizient,” said Sr. Vice President and Memorial Hermann The Woodlands CEO Josh Urban. Houston’s largest locally owned CPA firm, Briggs & Veselka, again has earned client satisfaction scores four times the average for the accounting industry. The results came after a four-month process including an online survey and personal interviews with corporate clients. Additionally, the firm received high scores for individual service characteristics of technical knowledge and communications. This is the third year the firm has conducted such research, and the third year the scores were quadruple those of its peer group nationally. Just in time for Christmas gift giving Children’s Books on Wheels is partnering with Kendra Scott at Market Street with an event on Friday, Nov. 22 from 6-8 p.m. Anyone who purchases an item from Kendra Scott during that time will be able to contribute 20 percent of the sales directly to Children’s Books on Wheels. That includes items on order as well, and they deliver.

EDUCATION Lone Star College was named one of the 2019 Great Colleges to Work For® by the Chronicle of Higher Education for the third consecutive year. “Lone Star College has worked very hard to encourage collaboration and nurture a culture that values and respects all employees,” said Stephen C. The Monthly Senior Luncheon at Comforts of Home featured education about tax fraud and other dangers of sharing your information with people you don’t know. Rita Wiltz of Children’s Books on Wheels shared information that emphasized the importance of not giving out your family information, social security number, or address with people you aren’t familiar with. Senior fraud is all time high and Rita has seen it as she assists with free tax services year-round.
