THE DRUM @WOODFORD Issue 15, 16th February 2024

Woodford International School

Hi Everyone! Wow, I can't believe we are almost halfway into term one! Hope that everyone is having a great time so far and keep up all the good work! There will be quite a few school events coming up so stay tuned! Hope you guys have a great weekend and see you next week!

Mandatory tutoring By LangYing Zhu and some students are also working hard in these mandatory classes to aim for better grades in their upcoming exams.

As the academic year starts, with huge exams going on this year, our school has decided to start mandatory tutoring classes afterschool for High school students ranging from Year 9 up to Year 11. With various subjects such as English, Maths, Science and Humanities. Teachers are spending their afterschool time to help students out with work that they find difficult,

“For math, our teacher gave us a test paper to see what we’re good at and what we need help with,” said a student after attending the first mandatory tutoring. It is said that the mandatory classes are fun at times, since it's only been two weeks since this program has started, but overall they have enjoyed it. Teachers have gone slow with their teaching as it's good to focus on particular topics students find difficult in, allowing students to understand better.

A student who has attended the classes on time has mentioned that it has helped them a lot, allowing them to understand better when normal classes are being held. But it has only been two weeks so by the end of this term, there would be a bigger difference in understanding the topics. Teachers have said that they are using their after school hours to teach therefore students who attend the mandatory tutoring should go to classes on time, not just to allow teachers to do their job easier but it is also beneficial towards your grades and your own understanding towards the subject better.

School Gym in Development By Aiden Kenilorea

This year, you may have noticed changes in class schedules and the introduction of new learning resources, especially in secondary education. Moreover, another notable addition to the campus is a gym that will be situated behind the hall where music classes were previously held.

Construction on the gym started just before the 2024 school year began, with both internal workers of Woodford and external construction services transforming the old music room into a gym. However, progress has unfortunately been temporarily halted due to the awaited arrival of essential equipment to complete the gym.

The gym is set to feature a variety of equipment that is still yet to arrive, including dumbbells up to 40 kgs, multiple barbells, a leg press, power and squat racks, bench presses, medicine balls, kettlebells, yoga mats, and a cable station.
