The World has gone from one Global Disaster to another. We slowly move out of the world of Covid 19, and enter the world of War. Ukraine is in a battle for it's survival. We here at Women Rock Magazine support the efforts of all of the soldiers, the Ukrainian Government, and the World Stage, and we all condemn these acts of War.

To the People of Ukraine. You have been, and continue to be brave. Our thoughts and Prayers are with You.

WHAT IF CINDERELLA HAD SWOLLEN FEET??

e all know that the glass slipper fit. We all know that Cinderella lived happily ever after. BUT what if on the very special day when the ministers came by the house for the girls to try on the glass slipper Cinderella’s feet were swollen? What if she stuffed her emotions down with food and hid from all her feelings of low self-worth, not fitting in, feeling depressed with her living conditions, never getting ahead in life? What if bags of potatoes chips, muffins, pasta, and cookies were her answers. What if chocolate covered avoidance was her go to response? I’ll share with you what would have happened. The glass slipper would never have fit, and Cinderella would have been left sitting there in the beautiful embroidered Victorian chair with her big old swollen water retention foot and no prince and no happily ever after.

"Success is when preparation meets opportunity"

Imagine just for a moment that your lifelong dream, a once in a lifetime opportunity literally came to YOU, right to your door, and you weren’t prepared? What if the decisions you were making, the actions you were taking were ruining your chance for success? Holding you back from fitting in the exact life that you’d been dreaming of and were trying to create. Imagine if your life was swollen with doubts, lack of clarity, direction, and support and didn’t fit into your life’s magical glass slipper, your vision? I remember when the word “success” was defined to me. When I heard it, everything just clicked.

Ask Yourself What does a successful life look like to you? What is your personal vision? What is your fairy tale life? Are you prepared to slide into it like a glass slipper when it shows up and when the opportunity presents itself to you? Do you have the mindset that will motivate you into taking actions that propels you into your success? Are you aware of the power and control you have in your very own life that puts you in the driver seat to choose what foods you eat, what activities you participate in, what attitude you possess, which people you surround yourself with, and what language, chosen words, you speak? Do you realize that it is you who chooses the people in your life? Are you allowing wicked stepsisters and pushy mothers to dictate your daily activities, negative and hurtful emotions?

C

LIFE COACH WHAT IF CINDERELLA HAD SWOLLEN FEET??

hoice is like a fairy godmother. The choices you make are like granted wishes. That’s why they say… “Be careful of what you wish for”. It’s the same as when I say to myself, ”Lisa, be careful of what you choose, because that’s what you’ll get.” So how does one make choices that will get them to their fairy tale life? How does one prepare so that when they meet opportunity, they will have success and create that vision? I'm sure the night that Cinderella ran home with only one glass slipper and no Prince that she opened a few kitchen cupboards looking for comfort food. I'm sure she had the phone in her hand wanting to order a pizza. I bet she even had a secret stash of gummies hiding beside her bed for some sugary satisfaction. BUT in the end, I believe that Cinderella had carefully thought about her decisions beforehand. She had questioned which actions would give her the results she desired and I’m pretty sure she hung onto her dream for a better life, a free life, and a confidant life. She was aware that having the power to make her own choices, her own wishes, that she would create the life she wanted.

Lisa Berry

So instead of eating any of those harmful and smothering foods and waking up with swollen feet, that night she closed her eyes and laid her head on the pillow and held on tight to her dream of a life happily ever after. Being prepared for the day when your golden opportunity comes up, being the "perfect fit" as your life's dreams materialize is about knowing who you truly are and making the decisions that are congruent and in alignment to what you're creating and what your heart sees.

MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU

Sue Pitchforth

I

f you would have asked me 10 years ago if I would be living in Ottawa I would have said you are crazy! Well, fast forward ten years and here I am. The journey, like anything in life, was not straightforward! After my marriage broke down I took a look at my life, my successful design business and made a life changing decision to follow my son to Ottawa, to reboot my life. Best decision I ever made. Was it scary, emotional and exciting all at the same time? Yes. But I was in. Big time. I sold my home, packed up and looked ahead to this new chapter. I found the perfect home, set in a tranquil spot across from Petrie Island, a designated conservation area, which fills my soul everyday. I settled into my home, community and the first thing I did was decorate my home so that I felt like I had a good foundation. I surrounded myself with everything that I love and that meant so much to me. I had no idea that by doing this how it would affect my life years later. More to come on that. Now to get my business moving! I had faith I could reach out, network and make those important connections to relaunch my design business. I did it once and knew I could do it again.

No doubt whatsoever! When you love what you do and you exude that passion - it opens doors. Television and Home Show appearances were quickly booked. Meetings with industry leaders and opportunities to contribute to local magazines were offered! Clients were happy and so was I. My business was well on it’s way and life was amazing. Or so I thought. It started with a pain in my abdomen. Like most of us I kept on with my life and lived with the irritating pain. Then one day my intuition literally stopped me and shook me to the core with these words “go see the doctor, you have cancer”. I did just that and my intuition was right. Just before Christmas 2021 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I never thought I would hear those words. Nothing can prepare you. After the shock, I gathered myself, along with my thoughts and made a decision to move forward with positivity, a belief that all will be OK and surrounded myself with family and dear friends to fight this battle. I won’t lie and say it was easy. It wasn’t. It was hard, emotional and painful. Strangely enough, I had an innate sense that “everything was going to be fine and that I would be cancer free”. Talk about daily inspiration, that was my mantra and I truly believed it.

O

ne of the basic philosophies of my design business is built on surrounding yourself with things you love and that gives you joy. Little did I know how much comfort that brought to me during my year long battle. Small things like a special book, photo or family treasure made me smile and gave me strength.

Sue Pitchforth

Almost a year to the day, I was cancer free. The doctors, nurses, my friends and family worked as a team. We did it! You can do anything. Be strong, be purposeful, be loving, especially to yourself. And make sure if you need help - ask for it. We cannot do life alone. Bring on life. Since the age of ten, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life - to be a Designer of homes. This passion has grown with me throughout my life. How lucky am I that I get to help homeowners bring out their personality in their homes! I love connecting with my clients on an emotional level. Being in business over twenty years, I have helped clients through many peaks and valleys in their lives. It truly is an honour to walk that journey with them and have the changes they go through reflect in their home. It fills my heart with joy! Whether we are selecting new paint colours, designing their new home, adding special touches to their spaces or shopping together, I always make sure that the choices we make reflect their taste. I want them to surround themselves with items that they love and that mean something special to them. There is no better feeling for me than to see my clients go from indecision to having the confidence to select what they love. You can see the change in their face and that makes me happy. My other design passion is sharing my love of design through workshops, TV appearances and speaking at Home Shows. There is nothing better than inspiring others!

Pure design joy! ue Pitchforth is an International Award Winning Designer, a TV personality and professional S speaker. Sue is known for making design easy, fun and affordable. Forget everything that overwhelmed or intimated you about design, it’s a whole new world when you work with Sue. Believing the home is an expression of your life and personality, Sue says most people usually have a lot of what they need, they just don’t know it. “My clients tell me all the time how surprised they are that we can turn a room from blah to wow- with so little investment.”

ERMINA KARABASIC

REAL ESTATE AGENT

I

MY REAL ESTATE JOURNEY

t all started with a burning desire to become a successful Real Estate Agent. Every time I would think about a career goal, the question was what would I enjoy doing every day for the rest of my life? The answer was clear - "Real Estate". To me it's not a job, it's a lifelong passion! I look forward to daily sunrise with a grateful heart and anticipation for a new opportunity to continue to serve my clients and do what I love! For me there are no bad days in my calendar, I wake up energized, happy, and ready for the new day! The morning routine starts with coffee first, a workout, meditation, and a clear plan of what my day is going to look like. I try to stay one step ahead of my client's needs by being proactive in finding solutions for any issues that arise during the transaction. I surround myself with trusted, knowledgeable professionals from real estate lawyers, mortgage brokers, home inspectors and contractors to ensure a smooth closing, that no matter what the questions or situation that may arise I will have the best solution and professional advice for my clients. My real estate journey began as a child. My interest was piqued after sitting in a conversation with my parents back in Bosnia, Eastern Europe. My mom and dad believed in investing in land. Whenever they would have the ability to set some money aside they would have me count it, write down the amount, and hide it under an old armoire in the living room. I was often helping my dad with chores around the construction site while he was building our family home. Looking back, they probably would have never realized how much they inspired me by allowing me to be part of something that was so insignificant but meaningful to me. My mom was a seamstress and had a home-based business, my dad worked away from home the majority of the time in home construction, in his spare time, he would sing and play the accordion. He was a people person and an entertainer. Fast forward to 1992, due to the war we were forced to leave everything behind, our home, belongings, and everything we had ever owned. Our family home was destroyed to the ground. My family and I were forced into a concentration camp for months, some of my family never made it out alive. The closest to me were my father and my brother who became victims of war. I considered myself as one of the fortunate ones to survive. In 1993 I came to Canada to begin healing and to start a new life. Looking back after everything that happened, the concept of land is still there. The importance of acquiring land instead of other types of investments is still a commodity. I worked hard from the day I arrived in Canada, taking on any job I could find while continuing my education and learning English. I started a family shortly after and purchased our first home in 1999. Going through the process of buying a property inspired me to obtain my real estate license.

ERMINA KARABASIC

REAL ESTATE AGENT I developed a strong interest in home design. and staging. Being a mom of two young daughters at the time I felt the guilt of being away from home and family so I patiently waited until they were more independent. Being new to Canada and needing to learn English I felt that I needed to work on myself in order to pass the required real estate courses. From 2004 to 2014 I chose to take on a Retail Management position to improve my overall skills so that I could be a better Real Estate Agent. I never gave up on my dream. I finally completed my courses and became a Real Estate Agent in 2015. This was a time for me. Instead of driving results for another business owner, it was my time to establish a business for myself. This was a dream come true. This took a lot of hard work, juggling a full-time job and a whole new career path, family life and so much more. It all paid off! In 2015 I decided to join the #1 Brand in the World, Remax. In an uncertain market, consumers become less speculative. Instead, they rely on proven brands to reinforce their efforts to manage one of their most important investments.

They rely on the experience and expertise that has made RE/MAX one of the most recognizable brands in the real estate world. RE/MAX supports all of its Sales Associates with comprehensive training, technological tools, and ongoing support. My business is evolving year after year thanks to my amazing clients who support my business, who trust me, and continuously refer me to their friends and family. I'm forever grateful! My Team at Ottawa Prestige Real Estate is dedicated to our client's needs. We value our clients in the same way regardless of what the price point is for their current or future investment is. Everyone deserves a luxury experience! Luxury isn't just a price point, it's an experience that every client deserves irrelevant of the value of the transaction. In order to provide exceptional service, I continuously invest in my personal learning, coaching, and developing better systems for my Team to better serve our client's needs. Part of the reason as to why I'm so passionate about Real Estate is the joy of helping others fulfill their dream of homeownership, a safe home for their family to live, enjoy and play. Seeing their property value appreciate is a proud moment and a great sense of achievement not only for my client but for me personally. To ensure a smooth transaction, I approach each client's need and situation as if it is my own investment. In this business, a great deal of time goes into market research, strategizing, as well as marketing regardless of whether we are managing a Buyer's or Seller's transaction. I am involved every step of the way to ensure transparency, rules, and regulations are followed during the process. We certainly keep it fun and stress-free as much as possible. That's just me! Real Estate is a constantly evolving path that I am forever learning in today's ever-changing markets. It's absolutely fascinating! My Team and I are readily available to guide you through the process and we are never too busy to answer your questions, whether you are considering buying, selling, or investing in real estate. You can always expect a prompt response.

HOPE

HELPING ORPHANS PROSPER THROUGH EDUCATION EDUCATION

is the one thing you can’t take from anyone. So far, HOPE has been able to send all 24 children to a boarding school where they receive the best education that is offered to a child in Uganda. Education is the one sure way to give them an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and abuse they would often endure. Young girls are married off, raped, abused, quite often ending up with childhood pregnancies, and sometimes even death due to complicated pregnancies. Education gives the children the knowledge to know the difference that this type of abuse is wrong. Uneducated young girls quite often have babies on their hip, simply because they think that it is normal and okay. It is not. It steals their life away, with no ability to have a future for themselves. No education, no career, no ability to make their own life choices. They are stuck raising child after child, as a result of men enjoying themselves. This needs to change. We feel at HOPE, we are providing that change to 12 beautiful young girls. While half the children we support are girls, the other half, being boys of course, learn in school that the practices of the past are not to be continued. They learn that women are to be respected and learn to treat them fairly.

Change may start with one child, but that knowledge spreads to all those around them. The children of HOPE that we support are from 4 years of age, up to now 20 years of age. The youngest are schooled at Jinja Secondary School, while some of the older children attend Iganga Secondary School, where they spend all but twelve weeks of the year. Two 2 week breaks and then a 2 month break in December and January, with the new school year starting in February. Most recently, the children returned to school after a two year delay in the entire school system in Uganda due to Covid-19, one of the longest breaks from school they ever experienced. Getting them back to school was critical, as it was reported that many Ugandan students suffered severe poverty, hunger, illnesses, and childhood rape during this time. It was reported that two in ten children in Uganda were having less than a meal a day because they didn’t have access to feeding programs. For parents in Uganda, having their children in boarding schools is a saving mechanism. Luckily for the children we have supported, they continue to receive support for food and medical care, something that many Ugandans have never had the privilege of receiving.

Women Rock Magazine | 20

HOPE HELPING ORPHANS PROSPER THROUGH EDUCATION

THE education system in Uganda starts for children at age 3, where they go to baby class. I can’t imagine sending a 3 year old off to boarding school at 3 years old, but this is a privilege not available to many children, and a good start to their education and care. There are three other levels of varying lengths: seven years for elementary, four years for lower secondary, and two years for upper secondary education. Currently all but three children are in various stages of these levels. The oldest three boys are endeavoring to complete higher levels of education. One hopes to be a lawyer, one an accountant and one dreams of becoming a doctor. We have committed to do everything we can to make every child’s education a reality. YOUR DONATION & SUPPORT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED If you would like to to help out with the progress we have been making so far, we would love to have your support. a walk on the

BEACH

middle cove beach newfoundland mental health benefits of going to the beach

The beach can be a refreshing place that makes you feel better the longer you’re there. Some studies show that short walks along the beach can boost your mood and improve your mental health. This is because the beach is considered a blue space -- a water source such as an ocean, lake, pond, or swimming pool. The colour blue is known to exude a very calming affect.

I absolutely love going to the beach. It is my most favourite thing to do. Is it a feeling of complete relaxation and solitude.

When you are feeling burnt out from work, or just drained and stressed in general and feel you are in need of a vacation you automatically think of the beach. Most people come to associate the beach with relaxation and happiness. The beach can affect your mental health in the following ways: A CHANGE OF SCENERY -engaging your senses in new sights, smells, senses and sounds. IT IMPROVES OVERALL WELL BEING - getting exposure to the sun and ocean air does wonders for mental health. LOWERS STRESS - being in nature and a place you feel safe can lower your blood pressure and stress levels. IT LIFTS YOUR MOOD - time on the beach increases your self esteem and promotes relaxation.

for more information visit the link below.

The beach is a great place to head to when you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

BLUE is a very soothing color that helps calm your mind, slow down your heart rate, lower your blood pressure and reduce anxiety. Blue is believed to have a cooling and astringent effect. Women Rock Magazine | 22

LINDSEY BARR

Hi!

My name is Lindsey and I am the Founder of World-Changing Kids (WCK): - a social enterprise dedicated to igniting social and environmental activism in kids, while supporting them to become confident, inspired, engaged and compassionate leaders and citizens.

By the end of the year, your family will know more of your neighbours, your kids will be empowered by the knowledge that they can make a difference now – not just in the future, but right now, and you will have reinforced the lesson that we are here to take care of one another.

I started WCK 7 years ago by writing a book – “Plant a Garden of Kindness: A Child’s Guide to Filling a Year with Weekly Acts of Kindness”. This family workbook lists 75 Acts of Kindness kids can do in their community to help make it a friendlier place. The goal is to pick 52 of them and do one a week for a year.

I wrote this book because I knew the type of community I wanted to live in and raise my kids in – one where we know all our neighbours, where the kids are going back and forth between houses, where they can stay outside playing together until the streetlights came on. And I knew that if I wanted this type of community, then I had to build it. Women Rock Magazine | 24

LINDSEY BARR While kindness is at the foundation of everything I do at WCK, my focus has now turned more towards social justice as the kids have gotten older. My kids are 11 and 14 now and the target age group I mostly work with is 7 to 13.From hundreds of conversations with so many amazing kids, I realized that they were hungry for conversations about real life issues – homelessness, climate change, refugees, reconciliation, environmental activism, food insecurity, environmental activism, residential schools, etc. But they did not have many spaces in their world to have these conversations. Again, I realized that if I wanted there to be a space for these kids to have these conversations, I had to build it. So I created the Upstanders Academy: an online social justice experiential learning program for youth ages 7 - 13, where we talk about real world issues and come up with actions we can take to help make things better. We connect with, support and empower our youth through meaningful and impactful experiences, conversations and mentorship.

Women Rock Magazine | 25

P.S. We are now offering a weekly World-Changing Kids Good News Newsletter. You can sign up on our website or just send me a quick email telling me you want to sign up and I will do the sign up for you! It is the best way to stay up to date on all of our fun kindness adventures.

I also organize various workshops and Ask Me Anything type

events with guest speakers – all with the goal of helping us learn more so that we can do better.

The main philosophy for everything I do with the kids is to talk about a real life issue and then pair it with an action we can take to help make things better. So we talk about homelessness and then we partner with a local street outreach organization and we collect needed items for their “Stockings for the Homeless” campaign. By doing this, by making sure there is an action we can take, we will help the kids become empowered, compassionate, confident, inspired, engaged leaders and citizens who know they have the power to make a difference. If we don’t do this, we run the risk of our children becoming anxious, apathetic, overwhelmed and depressed because the world seems so terrible and they don’t know how they can be part of any solutions. I want all of our awesome kids to know that there are so many of us working on making things better and we are here to support them in their efforts. I want them to know they are part of a beautiful, inclusive community, part of something that is bigger than just themselves. I want them to know that they are loved and not alone. MY BEST FRIEND by Olivia Sinha

S

ince I was a little girl, I've always loved cats. It was one of my dreams to own my very own tuxedo cat when I was old enough to care for one on my own. When I moved to Newfoundland into my own condo, I realized…"oh my gosh, I can adopt a cat". So with that being said, I hopped on my laptop to find kittens up for adoption. It was almost instantaneous when I found my cat on Facebook marketplace, and as soon as I saw him, I texted the owner right away.

H e was the very last one left in his litter,

black and white, and about the size of my hand. The first few days settling him in there were many late and stressful nights. He was not vaccinated or checked by a vet as of yet and I was very anxious to make sure he was healthy. Once he had his check ups, he was good to go and doing very well. I couldn’t believe that I had my own cat to love and protect like I’d always wanted since forever ago. I named him Bean, and he is my best friend. I always have someone to snuggle with when I go to bed, and someone to come home to when I get back from work. Every single morning before I leave for work, he expects his snuggles and scratches immediately or he starts meowing super loud until he gets them. He’s so amazing and so sweet, and I really lucked out in adopting him and bringing him home and making him a part of my family.

ean is my confidant, I tell him absolutely B everything. He never tells anyone, he understands, and he’s also a great listener. So, this was just a little blurb about how much I love my little Bean, and how I feel so blessed to be his forever family. Women Rock Magazine | 27

FEELING NORMAL AGAIN

IS TRAVEL IN YOUR FUTURE? By Deanne Tobin Sinha Spring of 2022. It looks like the time has finally come. Two years of lockdowns, masks, working from home and endless nerve-racking hours spent listening to the Government and Doctors as they roll out mandates, give roll calls on the fatalities, and the hopes of the vaccines. It has been overwhelming, to say the least. It has been hard on everyone, of every age, in every country. This was a "Global Pandemic". Two years ago, this would have been a name for a Hollywood Blockbuster Movie, not a reality and certainly not a common household term. Many new terms have become part of our vocabulary. Who would have thought that the word "Staycation" would be a thing, and a norm for many. People were forced to spend their vacations at home. And when they did venture out, it was not far from home, and it was often with little to do, what with restaurants, theatres, bars, sports events all being either closed or at very limited capacity.

Well, we now seem to be turning this corner. Global Governments have now started opening their borders, removing mask mandates and proof of vaccines. The word is that Covid-19 is still out there, but its severity has decreased, and with the majority of the population vaccinated, we NEED to begin living life again. It is important both for mental health, the economy, and humanness. With protocols lifting, people are ready to fly, to book hotels, to go to theme parks and restaurants, and I dare say it will be in large numbers. Doctors do warn that we are not totally in the clear though, Variants can arise, and we must be cautious. Travel is a wonderful thing. The world is too big and beautiful not to experience. If travel is in your future, we are now in a good state from what the experts say. But one should always be cautious. Do your travel sensibly, try your best to keep your hands clean, wear a mask whenever possible, and respect others in your vicinity.

Creating this gorgeous , nautical seaside escape for this wonderful family was an absolute joy for me. Besides being a beach lover of sun, sand and surf it is one of my most favorite design themes to create.

esigning this fabulous coastal dining room required certain elements such as the right colour palette and materials, adequate lighting style and textures and patterns that lend themselves to this very nautical style. These choices were crucial in the execution of this design theme.

The beautiful round coastal mirror is probably one of my most favorite finds. I absolutely love the rope element that is part of this very unique piece. It is a perfect addition to this fun and beachy space.

We included lots of blues, white, creams and grays, fitting for this warm coastal feel. Different wood elements were also integrated in the dining table and chairs and gorgeous rectangular chandelier above to acquire that outdoor rustic beach feel. Women Rock Magazine | 36

ound glass pendants were incorporated along with wrought iron finishes in the lighting fixtures and the kitchen cabinet hardware. Accessorizing in black and white such as the 3 small plants in pretty pots add a sense of whimsy. My client has a soft spot for orchids so we added one in an adorable pink and white and placed it in the centre of the kitchen island. It not only adds a pretty detail it also gives you a focal point and place for the eye to land.

Michelle Filliol

Certified Mind and Body Eating Coach

H

i there, my name is Michelle Filliol. I’m originally from Maxville, Ontario, a small town with Scottish roots, about an hour East of Ottawa. Which explains why as a Franco-Ontarian, I love the sound of the bagpipes! Today, I live with my college sweetheart, Frank, and our two boys, Jude and Louis, in the Ottawa area. My hubby and I met in 2019 bonding over motherboards and hard drives, during our computer system technician training at Algonquin College. The most fun job I ever had was working on Parliament Hill, providing technical support to the Members of Parliament and Prime Minister Harper’s office! Talk about an interesting clientele and office environment to work in!

I still work in IT for the federal public service, but today my biggest passion is helping women end their eating struggles, as a Certified Mind Body Eating Coach. My journey to this calling, although I didn’t know it at the time, started at age thirteen when I stepped into a Weight Watchers meeting for the first time. I spent the next 2 decades weaving in and out of overeating, weighing and measuring, emotional eating, counting points, and trying to be “good”. There was even a moment in my mid twenties, when I thought I had it all figured out, after another “successful” round of Weight Watchers and 5 days a week at the gym. Little did I realize that I still had so much more to untangle. Then in 2015, I hit my food and body rock bottom. I was on maternity leave with my second child and was desperately trying to diet my way out of the extra 60 pounds I had put on, without success. I was also really struggling with intense emotional eating. I remember the exact moment I had a crystal clear realization that I was so done with diets. I knew I needed a new approach if I was going to get to the bottom of my eating issues and the unwanted side effects that came with it.

hat happened after that transformed my life. I said goodbye to my calorie counting app and scale. I joined online emotional eating support groups. I discovered Marc David’s work at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, and worked with my own one-on-one coach. As a result, my relationship with food and body completely transformed. I released the excess weight and all the aches and pains that came with it. I got really good at digesting my emotions (instead of the cookies!) I learned to listen to my body wisdom and feed it with love. Best of all, it’s what inspired me to become an Eating Coach. There really is nothing that lights me up more than helping other women untangle their eating struggles so that they can finally be at peace with food and feel their best. ey, who knew history repeating itself can be an incredible thing?! I didn’t know that my mother, who was a single mom to myself and my older brother, when she was packing up her big bag of products to take over to my aunt’s to do a home party, was going to make such an impression on me. It was truly one of my first experiences being in a room of women gathering, sharing, talking, laughing, and supporting each other. At 8 years old, I had no idea how deep that impression went, and how it would change my life one day. My mother was looking to do something to make ends meet at the end of the month, as a child, I did not understand that. I was having fun! I was enjoying “going to work” with my Mom and being with all the ladies. Watching them take care of themselves and each other in a way that was so incredibly fun and attractive. As life would have it, I ended up in the world of health and wellness as a formulator, educator, and clinician, many years before it became popular. By the grace of good luck and good fortune, I had come across some incredible teachers who taught me the benefits of using natural products and living as holistically as possible. I also have always had, what I would call, a servant heart, so when I found out about something that I knew was good for me, my family, and my friends, I wanted to share it! I wanted to tell everybody so they could have the benefits as well.

As I started to discover, research, and learn about the impact of what we eat, drink and put on our bodies, I really wanted to share this information. This all happened in my early 20’s. I can’t say that I was never called a hippy!! The idea of using natural ingredients was something fairly new for people, particularly in health supplements and skin care. I went to school to learn about health and wellness and age reversal and was fortunate to own a health clinic in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. For 30 years I treated thousands of clients and educated them on what products to use (and how), as well as what to do to maintain the youth of their skin, organs, brain, and body. Like I said earlier, it’s interesting how history repeats itself. At a time in my mother’s life when she felt the need to bring in extra revenue for the family, she decided to go into Direct Sales. Ironically, that is also what happened for me. It happened in the time of my life that I call my “marital status changing year”. To say the least, it was a tough time. I owned a private health studio and was responsible for 18 staff, thousands of clients, and two children that all depended on me very highly. It was a tumultuous time for me, both personally and financially.

Where Science meets Spirit Deborah Drummond

I happened to get an email one day from a woman I

didn’t know. She was asking for 20 minutes of my time because she wanted to show me her product and ask me for some business advice. This wasn’t so unusual as I had been pioneering and helping women in business for a number of years, and I’m always happy to help. That day though, in particular, was going to be a stretch. I had one client coming into the clinic for a 6 hour treatment and I wasn’t sure I was going to have much time or energy left to help someone else in their business. But, you know … that’s what we do. So, this woman came to my office and started to share with me an incredible discovery that had happened in some labs in Texas. A group of scientists were looking to cure a skin condition and accidently came upon a plant compound that was reversing signs of aging faster that anything I’d ever seen in my career. The more she told me about this incredible product, the more excited I got. My stomach started to turn upside down when I thought that maybe I’d found something that was going to help me in my situation. However, with everything going on, my head couldn’t really see how. Honestly, I was 49 years old at the time and even though I taught age reversal, I was always open to learn more and new things to use for myself. So, due to the excitement I was experiencing within myself as I was looking at the ingredients of the product, the results in the pictures, and the philosophy of the company, I bought her product. I took it home and gave it to my daughter who, at the time was 19 years old. I have been asked more than once why I would give an anti-aging cream to my teenage daughter, but as a preventative medicine health facilitator, I truly believe in not only “course correcting” conditions in the body as they are happening, but also trying to prevent them in the first place. I also wanted my daughter to use something that was natural and clean and that did not have any of the dirty chemicals.

Women Rock Magazine | 43

Where Science meets Spirit Deborah Drummond first she was reluctant to use an anti-aging skin product, but I asked AT her to use it for 5 days along with me and then we could talk about our results. After a week, she ran into the kitchen and said “I want to sell this product with you”! I said NO, that we didn’t have the time or money to take anything else on in our lives. But, you know … when your 19 year old daughter looks at you and says she wants to build a business with you, you can’t help but say YES! So that’s what I did. That was 9 years ago. Still to this day, and every day, I am so excited to introduce people to a product line that is the best of science and the best of botanicals. It used to be, when I first started in the industry, if you wanted to use natural products, you gave up on some of the results. If you wanted results you had to use chemicals. I am very happy to say that we have changed that with science, research, and technology. The results that people get from our products are even better than results from harmful chemicals. Even for my clients that use other ways and means to obtain their ideal look and feel of their skin, adding our botanical products has been a game changer for their results. I’m proud to say that myself and my daughter are very happy about that decision we made 9 years ago. We have been able to build a business, not just for ourselves, but one that has helped many other women and men build their own businesses based around the philosophy of making people better. The products can literally change your life. We focus on anti-aging of the body, skin, hair, and the brain, and putting the body into a state of optimum health. In my work, I actually studied the brain for 12 years and was in tears when I saw the product that we released to support the brain and promote better cognitive functions and overall brain health. My daughter is now 28 and I am 57 and I have to say that our skin has never looked better. My daughter was able to prevent aging and I was able to correct the issues that I wasn’t happy with at age 49! I’m so proud and happy to say that our founding night cream, this accidental discovery in the lab, we can legally say stops 10 years of aging with 1 year of usage. Like I said earlier, at a time in my life when I needed to create an extra revenue stream to take care of my family, Direct Sales showed up in my life through a woman I did not know. Four years prior, she had seen my health & wellness business at a trade show, she took my card home and put it in her desk. That particular day, she had opened her desk drawer and my card fell out. She picked it up and decided to reach out to me and introduce me to the business. When I reluctantly said yes, it ended up being one of the biggest blessings that has happened in my life so far. Not only have I been able to take care of thousands of people and their aging needs, I have also been able to introduce thousands of people to a business that can change their lives for themselves and their families. I am now very happy to be referred to as a Professional Hippy! (Click links to go to Site)

Embracing the Messy Middle

N

Annie Gaudreault

ever did I imagine that after ‘having it all’, that I would essentially, lose it all. A thriving career, a gorgeous home and a place in the country, a partner that adored me, and lots of respect from my peers. The signs were there from the beginning that my so called perfect life was not so. A lot of little white lies were part of my busy routine, but I did not think that it could be better. Who was I to complain when I had such blessings? What you resist, persists - so the expression says. And it was my case, it resisted until the whole structure came crumbling down. My little white lies, my discomfort, my lack of integrity – all caught up to me. And at 40, it was all gone. Shame and guilt took over. And just like a hard drive that we want to erase, I tried to clean up my life, one file at a time. How was I supposed to find myself? While I knew that my previous choices had not served me, there is no road map to show you how to get to the “you destination”. Being a type A, I thought that I would set my goal, create a plan, and execute swiftly. Ah! Not so fast life said. While life rewards action, it rewards even more “thoughtful action”.

I

took a lot of detours, and some were seriously strange and uncomfortable. What I realized now is that in that time of uncertainty, of trial and error, of weird landscapes and experiences, I was slowly finding myself. But what I found was nothing short of the greatest happiness ever. In that place, I discovered forgiveness for my mistakes, and the incredible power of being able to love me, a perfectly imperfect human being. When I left my previous long term relationship I did not just end one personal chapter. We were partners in our business so I left it all - and had to start from the ground up again. It was so hard after so many years building that business. Then, as I went back to school, I found myself once again at the bottom. I had to build a whole new network, learning business to consumers in a new environment. It was a steep learning curve! But a silver lining - we never start from 0 again because we have acquired so many more skills. It has taught me resilience and that we are always much stronger than we think. I know it’s a cliché, but it is so true! That messy middle is where the good stuff is. The messy middle is there to teach and guide us. Because on the other side of it is beauty, opportunity and blessings.

Annie Gaudreault

While my journey was not always pretty, I am grateful for it. At almost 54 years old, I feel better, stronger and happier than ever, with a clear purpose and beautiful faith. Women Rock Magazine | 45

Loving the Totality of You Lisa Pinnock

I sit down to write this article, it's International Women's Day and there's so much to celebrate! First of all, I'm grateful to be sharing my ideas freely on this platform. Not everyone has that privilege and it's one I don't take for granted. Writing has always been a high-yield activity in my world, one where introspection, vulnerability, and selfexpression can merge and mingle.

Here's a suggestion I made in my first coauthored book, Women Let's Rise, that still holds true today: "Find time to regularly take part in activities that resonate with you, energize you, and fill your cup. Find whatever it is that makes your heart sing and do it often!"

I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself. Maya Angelou

So excited to share an excerpt from one of my upcoming compilations, Uncover Your Light: Empowering Stories of Hope and Resilience. Volumes One and Two are coming out this summer with GBR Publishing House. The personal accounts of these 39 incredible women are about being the best version of yourself, which is a profound act of self-love. Taking this journey of self-discovery allows us the opportunity to reconnect with the beauty and power that lies within: get to know her, love her and celebrate her!

Loving the Totality of You Lisa Pinnock But what if we put the same energy and focus on appreciating ourselves? What amazing things could come from the wellspring of attention? These are questions I never really considered in my years as a young wife and mother—in fact, they didn’t even appear on my radar. It’s only in recent years that I’ve contemplated the massive benefits of loving myself first, without explanations or apologies. And what a freeing, transformative, grounding process it has been. I’m not going to lie—my journey toward a place of truly valuing myself hasn’t been smooth or linear. I recall one period in particular that was very challenging. Rewind to the summer of 2020, when I found myself in a dark place on many levels. And being amid a global pandemic certainly didn’t help. Thankfully, I connected with a wonderful program through The Proctor Gallagher Institute. I started sifting through the material in The Self-Image of Your Dreams portion of the program, and was instantly met with resistance from within. Saying supportive, affirming words to myself while looking straight in the mirror was completely foreign and quite uncomfortable.

Years upon years of limiting beliefs and false stories were congregating all at once in my head, screaming things like, "You can’t be serious! Do you really believe that? How can you even say that with a straight face?" In the early days, I was in tears as I practiced this exercise. But with time, patience, and lots of repetition, it became easier to get through the thirty-five personal affirmations with dry eyes. I even found myself smiling at my reflection in the mirror more and more often. Slowly but surely, I began to see myself through kind eyes instead of harsh, critical ones. Far too often, we only give ourselves a fraction of the compassion and understanding that we freely offer to others. But once we become aware of these tendencies, we create the possibility of choosing a different path, one where we can love ourselves without hesitation or reservation. Here’s what I know for sure: being loving and compassionate with yourself first is a skill we can develop over time, with consistent practice. The rewards we’ll reap are beyond measure and ours for the taking. So tell me, Dear Reader, what will your choice be today?"

Coming HoME Lisa Pierrette Cloutier Lisa’s life-long passion and calling in helping herself and others live their best lives out loud began long before her academic career. When she was a young girl, she began collecting babies and children, bringing them home to hold, play and connect with, this continued through her teen years, collecting people of diverse backgrounds to connect with, to listen to and to help in any way she could, and has weaved and continued a multi colored tapestry into a fulltime career! At the young age of 8, Lisa appeared on a local London Radio Station and was awarded the Bunny Bundle Award for assisting to raise money for children in need. In High School, Lisa could often be found in the girl’s washroom or wherever, often skipping class to give an ear of support and presence to her fellow sisters or brothers. While attending Fanshawe College, London, Ontario, 1997, completing a Diploma as a Social Service Worker, Lisa was unanimously chosen by faculty as the student who would go above and beyond in the field of Social Work. Lisa is contagious and inspirational with her openhearted spirit and authenticity in seeking truth to understand, and discover ways to transition, transcend and transform, resolve and/or heal our common human dilemmas and challenges/barriers to living and loving our best lives out loud. She understands that our issues and problems are never 100% in isolation: they are a combination of personal, familial, societal/cultural (collective) and even ancestral (inter-generational). There is always a relationship between the micro, mezzo and macro connection in Life, and, we can achieve Self Connection, Empowerment and Control of our Inner Worlds. With space, stillness, the right structure, right tools, help, coaching and guidance we can awaken, returning HoME to the Conscious Expert and Creators we truly are.

Lisa loves involving herself in anything that keeps her connected to her eternal life force energy, including yoga, nature, dancing, singing, stillness, music, continually creating community, laughing out loud for no reason simply because it feels good, community and family pot lucks, and basically connecting and creating with others in a meaningful way whether one on one and/or community development and continued Life Itself Learning to help better herself and humanity as a whole. A former Prayer Chaplain for Unity of London Ontario and former Choir member at Renaissance Unity, Warren, Michigan. Balancing oneself physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, socially and financially is a worthy and goal to be cultivated and practiced daily. My business is the business of Life Itself, and helping you every step of the way no matter where you are in your Journey. Meeting ourselves and each other where we are at, trusting you are the expert of yourself; breathing our way through each present moment as we find our way HoME with complete dignity and respect. Wherever you are at in your cycle of life, whatever transition brings you to call me, I/we will customize your care to suit your particular needs through your transition to ultimately Coming HoME to the Awesome Powerful Soul you truly are! The Secret of Lifelong Joy and Happiness Who am I? Or better yet...

It all began with Mom and Dad as role models for making a difference through volunteering. My Mom (Regina Shapter) was a leader in the Girl Guide movement for many years in various roles, including being the Provincial Commissioner for Newfoundland and Labrador. Dad (Andrew Shapter) coached my brother's hockey team for 13 years. He still says those were the best 13 years of his life 😊. He also clocked over 330 blood donations over the years and has been honoured for making that difference. For me, these values, and making a difference through volunteering is imbued in the Newfoundland and Labrador culture.

Making a difference transforms you, and has the potential to transform relationships, communities and yes, the world. Volunteering is one such way to make a difference Call to action: As we emerge from COVID, check out skilled volunteering opportunities with Crossroads International to make a difference and change YOUR life forever

The Start of what defines Me

A bit hard to describe given it was the water in which I swam. Now having lived, worked and travelled in 40 different countries, I can name the NL & Labrador culture that I experienced as the most hospitable, community minded place I have ever experienced. Perhaps the backbone of a physically demanding and sometimes very emotionally draining, fisheries industry (family being lost at sea) fostered a ‘looking out for one another’ attitude that I was born into. Dad made blueberry wine for the neighbours in the summer who in turn dropped by cherry loaf during the holiday season; everyone lends a hand with snow clearing and on and on, it goes.

What I want to leave people with- that making a difference, transforms.

Making a Difference goes International

The Beginning

Heather Shapter

I started my own voluntary "making a difference organization" at age 17 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I saw that some younger teens (possibly due to boredom) were getting into trouble in the summer, but at the same time, loved to dance, sing, do crafts and build things. A friend and I at the same time had been visiting seniors’ homes and saw how so many seniors lacked companionship and activity. So it seemed quite natural to get the teens together to do the things they loved to do – dance, sing, crafts - and to share all of this with seniors who were lonely. Seeing this all play out was transformational for all. The teens couldn't believe how well they were received and the joy they brought. The seniors loved the youthful exuberance, the music and the compassionate ear. 10 years after this simple idea got hatched, "Helping Hands Volunteens" was still going strong. Making a difference transforms. But the beginning and most significant part of my journey, was making a difference at an international level. The first time I spent any significant time off the Island of Newfoundland, was while doing my Masters of Business Administration at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Then I spent the summer months backpacking around Europe. I'm not sure exactly what turned my attention internationally - I think it might have been an undiscovered curiosity about differences in culture, the ways people live and how they see the world. I found it all so fascinating. I now had an MBA. Coming from a culture that was all about making a difference and being intrigued by the world unknown to me, I thought, "is there a place where my business skills could make a difference?" The Secret of Lifelong Joy and Happiness Heather Shapter

So what's next?

Shortly after, I had my first of many trips to Africa where I got to collaborate with powerful village women who wanted to earn more income from their small businesses so their children could go to school. Their families could have access to healthcare services and their communities could prosper. I had found my home for making a difference - empowering women and girls to have new futures. Making this difference or even attempting to make this difference has been moving me - I would say, transforming me for over 30 years - from that very first time I had the privilege to collaborate with women entrepreneurs in rural Kenya. Fast forward 30 years later. The privilege of getting to make a difference still transforms me, whether that be in Africa, or in Bangladesh or Haiti - where I also lived. Much closer to home, I currently live with my family in Scarborough, Ontario and still making a difference through, for example, being a volunteer manager for my younger son's hockey team (In my Father’s footsteps 😊 ?). Also a privilege and also transforming for me. So what’s next? An invitation - where do you already make a difference? Where would you like to make a difference? Have you ever considered volunteering? Now with travel restrictions easing, there are great opportunities emerging with Crossroads International with our 60 partners in sub-Saharan Africa. Our partners tell us in what areas they want to strengthen their capacity and we help them find the skilled volunteers to do just that. Maybe you are one of those volunteers that can make THE difference and have your life never to be the same again.

Heather Shapter grew up in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador and today, lives in Toronto, Canada with her husband and two sons. She is the executive director with Crossroads International, which works with local partners in Sub-Saharan Africa to advance rights, reduce poverty, and increase access to justice for one million women and girls. She has also held leadership roles in some of the World’s most respected International non-governmental organizations and foundations, in such diverse environments as the Caribbean, Africa, Russia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. In the private sector, Ms. Shapter led the NGO division for Bluedrop ISM, where she helped adapt their employment and entrepreneurship programs for marginalized youth and women. She has been recognized nationally and internationally for following her vision, in service of others.

a Newfoundland Spirit tammy dutcher singer / songwriter

Growing up in a family that loved and played music at house parties, Tammy was inspired to pick up the guitar at the young age of ten. She learned a few chords from her mom one night and then never put the guitar down again. Tammy was a closet singer until one night a friend asked her to join him on stage for a couple of songs. After that, Tammy began doing her own performances for people. Since then Tammy has performed for various functions from fundraisers to shows at the local Arts and Culture Center. Tammy wrote her first song at sixteen years old. While teaching in a community in Northern Manitoba from 2000 to 2005, Tammy wrote 14 songs inspired by her students and her friends. Ode to Newfoundland When sunrays crown thy pine-clad hills And Summer spreads her hand When silvern voices tune thy rills We love thee smiling land We love thee, we love thee, We love thee smiling land. When spreads thy cloak of shimm'ring white At Winter's stern command Thro' shortened day and starlit night We love thee frozen land We love thee, we love thee, We love thee frozen land. When blinding storm gusts fret thy shore And wild waves lash thy strand Thro' spindrift swirl and tempest roar We love thee wind-swept land We love thee, we love thee, We love thee wind-swept land. As loved our fathers, so we love Where once they stood we stand Their prayer we raise to heav'n above God guard thee Newfoundland God guard thee, God guard thee God guard thee Newfoundland. -Sir Cavendish Boyle

eroine, wife, and mother. In 1812, Laura Secord courageously rescued her husband, James Secord, after he was wounded at the Battle of Queenston Heights. Her husband was still recovering when, the following summer, American soldiers advanced into the Niagara Peninsula and were being billeted at their home. On June 21,1813, Secord overheard American officers plan an attack. She is believed to have walked thirty-two kilometres through rough terrain from her home in Queenston, Upper Canada (Ontario), to warn Lieutenant James FitzGibbon of the surprise attack at Beaver Dams. Facing imminent danger, she reached FitzGibbon in time for him to prepare an ambush, forcing the U.S. general and five hundred soldiers to surrender. Secord was never properly recognized for her heroic feat until after her death.

Levasseur travelled to Europe to learn more about early childhood disease and with others founded the Saint-Justine Hospital in Montreal in 1907. She went on to work in Serbia, the Red Cross in New York, and, returning to Canada, used her own savings to help found the Hôpital de l'Enfant-Jésus in Quebec City in 1922. In 1927, she opened her own clinic for disabled children in nearby Saint-JeanBaptiste. Signal Hill - Ladies Lookout an East Coast Bucket List Destination by Deanne Tobin Sinha

For those of you that are not familiar with St. John's, Newfoundland, there is a Historic point at the East Coast of the Avalon Peninsula know as Signal Hill. Signal Hill is a National Historic site known for the first transatlantic wireless signal to be received across the Atlantic Ocean from Cornwall, U.K. by Guglielmo Marconi in December 12, 1901. This was a very monumental, historic achievement, and it paved the way for modern wireless communications that we are use to today. Signal Hill was also a strategic point of access to North America right from the 17th Century to World War II. Just North East of Signal Hill Historic Site, is a rock outcrop known as "Ladies Lookout". Ladies Lookout is the highest point of Signal Hill. The history of the name is that the women of St. John's would come to the lookout to watch for ships carrying their Husbands and Sons. While many battles were fought for the possession of the Hills, the summit of Ladies Lookout was the point where British Troops won an engagement against the French forces for occupation of St. John's. Ladies Lookout now offers spectacular hiking trails and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Make it a bucket list destination when you visit the beautiful Province of Newfoundland. It's on our families list this Summer for sure!

hen I was a little girl, I was quite the dreamer, but not in your classic sense. For me, being a dreamer meant I would dream a crazy dream, and then write it down on paper. (Yes, paper, since I am that old, and computers were not yet a staple in every home). From those dreams, wild stories grew, and filled my elementary school scribblers. Those hand printed words won me gold stars and words of encouragement from all my teachers. Stories that ranged from talking dogs, to flying above my house in my polka dot pajamas. It was quite a view from up there.

I guess you could say I became a little obsessed. I remember one summer in particular, when I was about fourteen or fifteen—before summer jobs—that I really dove in to writing full steam. My mother was gone for the summer to visit her family in Germany, while my sister, my father, and myself, spent the entire summer at our country house by ourselves. Don’t get me wrong, we certainly missed my mother, but I guess with her absence, it was different — quieter and less structured. We cooked when we wanted to eat, and slept in if we were tired—all following our own schedules.

As time went on, my whimsical stories graduated to full-fledged novel plots. I had quite a few. And some I even managed to write down. Yes, still on paper. I was not the normal fourteen-year-old, for many reasons, but mostly because I was a teenager who would rather spend my weekends working on one of my “novels”, than join my friends in the customary mischief more suited to my age. Don’t get me wrong, I did spend my fair share of hours hanging out at the mall, and going to every school dance, but my desire to write was always there, bred deep within me, and growing stronger as the years pressed on. It soon took over my desire to even study. Imagine that? I still got through school with decent marks, but my mind was always elsewhere. My teachers believed I was day-dreaming in class; they didn’t know I was actually just hatching up another new plot, or working out the revision to an old one.

My father was always a lover of books and reading, so he and I were quite the pair, him nose-down into a book on Portuguese grammar perhaps, while me clicking away at the dining room table on his manual type writer, transcribing my hand written scrawls. He and I were the “night owls” in the family, so without my mother around to tell us it was time to go to bed, we would be oblivious to something as confining as “time”. I remember many nights of us up together until one or two in the morning, happy as clams just doing our own thing, while my older sister was snoozing away in the other room getting her beauty sleep.

One Passion That Will Never Die By Stephanie Darby Coombs

T

hose were the days. It was an amazing summer, one of the happy memories from my youth; a summer with freedom from all responsibility, with freedom to just do what I enjoyed most. Life changed after that. My high school days ended and university studies began. My father’s typewriter was put aside for an Adam computer. And the “day dreaming” in class had to be limited in order to process such nasty things as Calculus, Chaucer, and French literature. After a few years of hard study though, and of putting my writing endevours on hold to focus on getting a bachelor’s degree, a very wise Creative Writing instructor suggested I take the next term off to finish one of my projects, a novel that I began that summer when I was fourteen. I took his advice and did just that. So, for the next few months I got to immerse myself once again in my obsession, and the sheer joy of writing. It was the best term I ever had at university.

Writing is one passion that I know will never die.

Unfortunately, the reality of needing a job to pay for rent eventually changed my life again, and then after that, marriage and two wonderful children. Needless to say, life has been busy ever since, and with the exception of finishing another project while my first born slept during my first maternity leave—my days of full immersion have been very few. Getting time to indulge yourself is not an easy task as you get older and other responsibilities surround you in your choice to raise a family. And sometimes it can be very frustrating. But instead of looking back at your life with regrets of lost time, perhaps it is healthier to view it all as stepping stones. Life is a series of stages that we all need to pass through. And for a writer, these stages are what fuel the creative mind. The more life you experience, the more you have to write about. So the result is that now I have even more stories to tell. One thing is certain: I know that I will never lose this obsession—this desire to write... And I know that the time is soon coming for me to sit again in front of my keyboard for hours on end.

Social media The Impact on Family and Relationships ROJA BADDEPUDI

Most of us are accustomed to this new way of living. Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and other Social media platforms have taken over a lot of valuable things from each of us. I myself didn't realise when I started becoming so involved in these channels. There were times where maybe ten years ago I would not even keep my phone with me and would only check once every few hours to see if I missed any calls or I would even wait to check the next day to listen to any voice mails. Among youth specifically, 97% of adolescents from ages 10 to 20 are on one of these platforms. I may be old school but there has to be a moderation in involving yourself with these social network media channels, as it can be very detrimental to your mental health.

Social media The Impact on Family and Relationships ROJA BADDEPUDI

Though there are some advantages in being connected to the world with the help of these platforms, there are also negative consequences that we shouldn’t forget to consider.

Some of the impacts that you may agree with- and which I myself felt being in this social media loop are: Less caring towards your loved ones We see so many people in our routine life that have the power to influence one’s behavior so easily but I must say that the strong role that social media is performing is totally above our thinking and for sure, it is more influential. Absent mindedness - It happens when someone is addicted to social media in an extreme manner. Sometimes what they read on social media surround in their minds all the time that’s why they take so much time to respond to anyone Lack of conversation - We are not spending time as we used to sitting together at the dinner table and catching up about how the day went by Living in a fantasy world - It happens when we see people post different ideas on Twitter and Instagram. We want the same things to happen in our life too. We follow a few famous celebrities we like and we try to be like them. Children’s psychological issues whose parents are habitual of using social media - Parents are busy updating social media statuses and catching their daily TV shows. Who will run the work at home..?

It is not easy to stay away from these platforms. They are very addictive but we can try and limit the time we spend on them and gradually come to a fine balance where you are not so much addicted to these platforms as there are other important things to achieve and cherish in life. Stay safe and be good.

EDITATION

TAKING CARE OF YOU

A SIMPLE & FAST WAY TO REDUCE STRESS If stress has you anxious, tense and worried, consider trying meditation. Spending even a few minutes in meditation can restore your calm and inner peace. Anyone can practice meditation. It's simple and inexpensive, and it doesn't require any special equipment. And you can practice meditation wherever you are — whether you're out for a walk, riding the bus, waiting at the doctor's office or even in the middle of a difficult business meeting.

Understanding Meditation Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years. Meditation originally was meant to help deepen understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life. These days, meditation is commonly used for relaxation and stress reduction. Meditation is considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine. Meditation can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. During meditation, you focus your attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

Benefits of Meditation Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And these benefits don't end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions.

Meditation and emotional well-being When you meditate, you may clear away the information overload that builds up every day and contributes to your stress. The emotional benefits of meditation can include: Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations Building skills to manage your stress Increasing self-awareness Focusing on the present Reducing negative emotions Increasing imagination and creativity Increasing patience and tolerance

Meditation and illness Meditation might also be useful if you have a medical condition, especially one that may be worsened by stress. While a growing body of scientific research supports the health benefits of meditation, some researchers believe it's not yet possible to draw conclusions about the possible benefits of meditation. With that in mind, some research suggests that meditation may help people manage symptoms of conditions such as: Anxiety Asthma Cancer Chronic pain Depression Heart disease High blood pressure Irritable bowel syndrome Sleep problems Tension headaches

BE sure to talk to your health care provider about the pros and cons of

using meditation if you have any of these conditions or other health problems. In some cases, meditation can worsen symptoms associated with certain mental and physical health conditions. Meditation isn't a replacement for traditional medical treatment. But it may be a useful addition to your other treatment.

ASTER IS A REMINDER OF THE GREATEST LOVE STORY THAT WAS EVER TOLD

THE MEANING OF

T

EASTER

he significance of Easter is Jesus Christ's triumph over death. His resurrection means the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The purpose of Easter also means the full confirmation of all that Jesus taught and preached during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had simply died and not been resurrected, He would have been thought of as just another teacher or prophet. However, His resurrection rebuked all of that and provided final and undeniable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had overcome death once and for all. Women Rock Magazine | 71
