COVER STORY

Interview with Veronica Weedon Health & Relationship Coach

How to Attract Healthier Relationships

Veronica Weedon helps people move towards healthier relationships and a better life. Having spent most of her life in relationships that left her feeling frustrated, disappointed, angry, and bitter — across family, work, love and friendship — Veronica hit rock bottom emotionally, mentally and physically back in 2019. This breakdown set her on a path of continuous self-evolution which led her to uncover the root cause of her destructive patterns, reform her beliefs, and transform her relationships and life through addressing health on an emotional, mental, and physical level. Today she is a certified integrative Health Coach, Rapid Transformation Therapy practitioner, hypnotherapist, published writer, and the Founder of Revival Health, a practice that shares her lessons learned and thereby guides others to healthier, happier relationships, and better health. revivalhealthllc 06 / WOMEN THRIVE

Q. It's an honour to speak with you today. Why don't you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today? I’m Veronica — my heart melts like butter every time I just look at my dog, and I’m obsessed with wellbeing, empowerment and alignment with one’s truth. I grew up in a very traditional family. I was taught that grown ups always know best, that quitting is never an option, and that disobedience has consequences. My mother also suffered from a serious illness. So, from a very young age, I had a front row seat to what it means to lose your health — both physically and emotionally — and the effect that can have on you, as well as those close to you. When I was young, being an athletic girl was considered very uncool. In fact, I was called butch; a beast; and a lot of other uninspiring things. I was just about as far from the popular and pretty girls as you could get. Couple that with the shame around sex that comes with a traditional family. The result was a deep seeded belief that I was not only undesirable, but unworthy. And so, as a late bloomer, I endured sexual assault as well as a string of relationships that left me ruined — emotionally, mentally, physically, and some even financially — each one worse than the one before. The kicker for me came several years ago — a relationship so toxic it sent me to hospital many times over, left me depleted of all energy and hope, and brain fog so bad I could no longer focus or function properly. I felt weak and ashamed, and could not believe this was my life. But for the first time in my life, I quit. I got out. And quitting saved my life. My journey back to true wellbeing and to finally being in a position to experience healthy, fulfilling and beautiful relationships, was long and brutal. I wish someone could have given me a roadmap, a heads up, and encouragement along the way. This would not have made the road less tough, but it would have saved me a lot of time, money, and made me feel less alone throughout the process.

“WHEN I WAS YOUNG, I WAS CALLED BUTCH, A BEAST, AND A LOT OF OTHER UNINSPIRING THINGS.”

That’s what led me to create my Make Your Body Your Boss program. It’s a roadmap. It’s a heads up. And I’m your cheerleader throughout it all. It’s about healing. It’s about re-aligning your life force energy. So that you too can begin attracting the kind of relationships you’ve always wanted. >>

COVER STORY

“WE MUST BE WILLING TO LET GO OF WHO WE ARE IN ORDER TO BECOME WHO WE WANT TO BE.” Q. Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialise in and why should someone work with you? The goal of my work is to help move people towards healthier, happier relationships. For so many people, decisions are made based on subconscious fears — the fear of abandonment, the fear of being alone, the fear of rejection, the fear of not being enough. These fears are valid and real, but they hurt us instead of help us. They lead to destructive decisions like staying in an unhealthy romantic relationship, or in an unfulfilling job, or tethered to family or friends that tear us down instead of lift us up. Through my work as an RTT Hypnotherapist, we tap into the subconscious in order to find the root cause of these fears and negative self beliefs, and in turn reform, elevate and transform them into beliefs that will serve you moving forward.

08 / WOMEN THRIVE

This work is done in combination with my Make Your Body Your Boss program which draws on my work as an integrative Health Coach. The program is designed to reconnect you to your innate wisdom. It addresses health on an emotional, mental and physical level, because the three are inextricably linked. In order to have better relationships, we must be willing to let go of who we are, freeing us to become who we want to be. I’ve spent the last five years evolving as a person, and my current life is a reflection of that. I went from abusive, toxic and depleting relationships, being unhappy and hopeless, being constantly ill and suffering major physical setbacks, to being physically, mentally and emotionally strong and balanced, with relationships that enhance my life instead of draining the life out of me. So if you’re struggling to form healthy relationships, keep getting sick, and/or feel disappointed in life, then my program may just be for you.

Q. What's your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their lives? Self-awareness and self-care first. The days in which society idolises sacrificial lamb behaviour must be over. Become clear on what success means to you — it’s different for everyone and there is no right or wrong. That sense of hiding. That fear of judgement. That fear of rejection you think about, that keeps you stuck in the shadow of others. Clarity is what resolves it. Clarity is what dissolves it. Because everything becomes so much easier when you don't have to show up wearing a mask. And above all else, no matter what, know that YOU ARE ENOUGH.

“I’D LIKE PEOPLE TO REMEMBER ME AS SOMEONE WHO IMPACTED THEIR LIFE FOR THE BETTER.” Q. Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you? Success to me means freedom and peace. Freedom to live the way I choose and being at peace within myself. It’s when my reality catches up to my imagination. I’m all about self-evolution. Because none of us can change anybody else. But we can change ourselves. And that can change our life. Q. What advice can you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs? Make sure you have a support network. Entrepreneurship is exciting because, hopefully, you're endeavouring to do something you love and that helps make people’s lives better. But it can be a lonely and often stressful journey. You go from doing one job to having to do ALL the jobs. You’re the CEO, CMO, CSO, CFO, COO — you get the picture. So unless you can afford to pay a network of people to do those things for you from the get go, be prepared to learn A LOT of new skills, some of which you will likely struggle with. You will have up days, you will have down days, and that’s where the support network comes in. If you don’t already have it, find a group of other entrepreneurs with whom you can share your journey and support one another. We all need that.

Q. Who inspires you every day? This may sound like a strange answer, but Boris, my dog :-) I have such deep respect and love for the animal world. Boris teaches/reminds/forces me every day to go outside, to exercise, to be fully present in the moment, to rest, to love, to play. His energy is a reflection of mine, so it’s like I permanently have a mirror held up in front of me. Sometimes that’s hard, but he makes me better. And that’s self-evolution. I truly believe that animals can teach us so much about ourselves and life. We just have to be mindful enough to listen, and open enough to learn. Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world? I’d like people to remember me as someone who impacted their life for the better. I want the world to understand that the most important relationship we will ever have is the one we have with ourself. If more people focused on that, more people would heal generational and childhood trauma (which just about everybody has to varying degrees) and know they ARE ENOUGH. And if more people knew that, the world would be a much more peaceful place. Q. What is one book you recommend, and why? You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. It’s all about the mind-body connection which I’m a firm believer in because I’ve lived it. I’ve had the book for years and still reference it all the time. Q. Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more? Exploring the Depths of Narcissistic Abuse by Melanie Tonia Evans

“The first steps to freeing yourself might come from realizing you are not the only one.”

H

ave you ever found yourself caught in the web of an irresistible yet toxic obsession? The kind of relationship where logic and emotions collide, leaving you entangled. And you start feeling trapped in that irresistible and dangerous circle. Neither do you want to leave that person, nor can you get over it. Such is the grip of narcissistic abuse, a term you might not encounter frequently, but its effects reverberate in many lives and families.

Let's unwind the term narcissism first! Narcissism, a personality disorder characterized by low empathy and an overpowering sense of superiority, can manifest in anyone. These individuals may be your friends, spouses, parents, or even colleagues. Their presence can create an unsettling atmosphere where you perpetually feel in the wrong. Your efforts and energy go unnoticed, leaving you with a gnawing sense of inadequacy.

12 / WOMEN THRIVE

Why is it hard to cooperate with the narcissists What makes dealing with narcissists even more challenging is their limited awareness of the repercussions of their actions. You may try to the best of your energy and efforts, but you can never make them happy. Meanwhile, the others in their circle struggle with mental turmoil and diminished self-esteem. Narcissistic abuse is a silent but profound struggle that many endure, and understanding its depths is crucial to breaking free from its grip. And things turn more complicated when you start believing that it's totally normal. The day when you start accepting them rather than protecting yourself! Sit back. You're not alone in this toxic trap! It feels lonely and isolating at times, but the first steps to freeing yourself might come from realizing you are not the only one to have faced narcissistic abuse. Hundreds of people struggle with this silent trauma each and every day. International narcissistic abuse recovery expert Melanie Tonia Evans shares that she had once been trapped in an abusive and toxic relationship, which left her bewildered and emotionally scarred.

Struggling with the depth of narcissistic abuse Let's go through the real-life story of this empowered woman, Melanie Tonia Evans. Before facing narcissistic abuse, Melanie had invested a decade in personal development as a spiritual healer, coach, and teacher. Her initial belief that she had her life together was shattered when she entered an abusive relationship. In her toxic relationship with her partner, Melanie found herself in a constant state of anxiety, perpetually trying to appease her partner's unpredictable mood swings. Started with love and conviction, the relationship soon turned into a web of lies, blame-shifting, and emotional turmoil. Things worsened when she was accused of wrongdoing for the smallest things. Her life took a reverse turn when she started losing interest in her passions.

“Started with love and conviction, the relationship soon turned into a web of lies, blame-shifting, and emotional turmoil.” Her emotional, mental, and physical health went by the wayside. She says it was an experience of a complete psychotic breakdown which soon manifested in her physical body as well: she was diagnosed with shattered adrenals and prescribed lifelong antipsychotics. Moreover, the doctors declared that Melanie might never recover her previous functionality. Looking back at this period Melanie shares that even during these times she was trying to leave her partner but would find herself returning again and again, driven by the belief that she could change him. If you are recognizing yourself in this story it might be the wake up call you’ve been looking for. >>

MINDSET

Escaping a narcissist: the turning point That’s what a narcissist does to you. It turns down all your self-belief, love, and worth. When everything in her life turned dark, Melanie surrendered to an inner voice that urged her to find another way. Soon, she realised her suffering was not solely about her abusive partner but reflected her lack of self-love and self-approval. And her realization turned into a turning point. She started her journey towards self-partnering, overcoming hindrances like self-condemnation and self-abandonment. Gradually, her psychotic episodes ceased, and she started to heal.

“Melanie's story is living proof that you can thrive after narcissistic abuse. ” The limitless power of healing To start her healing journey, Melanie equipped herself with powerful tools such as kinesiology, Theta Healing, and timeline therapy. She created a unique 'Holographic Healing' approach. However, things still didn't turn out the way she wanted. She was still struggling with agoraphobia, making it impossible to function in open spaces. Her breakthrough came during a trip to Koh Samui, Thailand, where she experienced a profound healing system, Quanta Freedom Healing. It liberated her from agoraphobia, and gave her the tools necessary to help transform the lives of many. Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Program (NARP): A beam of hope for thriving after escaping abusive relationships After returning from Koh Samui, her healing journey continued, and Melanie's newfound healing approach, known as Quanta Freedom Healing, started to transform the lives of many. To extend her reach and help more survivors of narcissistic abuse, Melanie created the Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Program (NARP), which offered accessible and effective healing tools. NARP's impact was beyond her wildest expectations, and the ripple effect of healing touched not only those who experienced the abuse but also their loved ones and the professionals who supported them.

14 / WOMEN THRIVE

You Can Thrive After Narcissistic Abuse Melanie's story is living proof that you can thrive after narcissistic abuse. And that's the title of her best-selling book. Today, she is a leading international narcissistic abuse recovery expert. If you're witnessing narcissistic abuse within your sphere, it's high time to shine a light on the truth and empower your soul to heal, thrive, and break free from the shackles of abuse. Melanie Tonia Evans, a true Thriver, inspires us all to embrace the power of self-love and inner healing.

Melanie Tonia Evans Melanie Tonia Evans is on a mission to educate and show people that there is a way to heal for real from abuse and thrive, no matter how old you are, what you have lost, how broken you are, and even if abuse is all that you have ever known. COACHING

Healthy Spirit, Healthy Marriage

The 4 Keys to Embracing an Unshakeable Partnership by Nada Lyon

Building a healthy marriage doesn’t always mean sacrifice. Oftentimes, it means reconnecting with your authentic self.

E

very time I hear the phrase “perfect couple” I can’t help but laugh. Your favorite rom-com or the notorious highlight reels of social media may paint the picture that flawless couples are around every bend, but if there is one thing that rings true in just about every relationship it's this: creating a healthy marriage doesn’t happen by mistake. Instead, healthy marriages occur when both partners intentionally take the time to create a physical, emotional, and spiritual bond that can withstand any storm. Here are the four keys to a healthy marriage that retains authenticity. You may just find that embracing your unique gifts while encouraging your partner to do the same leads to your healthiest relationship yet.

18 / WOMEN THRIVE

Key 1: A Healthy Marriage Has an Authentic Foundation A common myth is that a healthy marriage lies in self-sacrifice and letting go of our natural tendencies and desires. Some even question if they are worthy of the work it takes to create a happy marriage because their authentic self is so different from the authentic self of their partner. However, I have found that a healthy marriage doesn’t look like giving up your unique gifts and desires (so don’t you dare give up your quirky passions and interests). Instead, it means understanding how to connect the diverse, sacred aspects of each individual, and that starts by ensuring your relationship is built on a solid foundation. Sit down with your partner and ask them what commitment, respect, friendship, and loyalty mean to them. Compare their answers with your own (and welcome laughter and playfulness in answers that may vary!) And remember, foundations take constant maintenance, so be sure to check in regularly.

“Healthy relationship polarity looks like finding the ideal energy balance for a thriving, healthy marriage.” Key 3: A Healthy Marriage = Interdependence Every healthy marriage relies on supporting each other's dreams and passions, but there is an important distinction between dependence and interdependence within a thriving relationship. Dependence implies the inability of either party to be whole on their own. Meanwhile, interdependence provides an atmosphere where both partners understand the importance of emotional connection with their partner, but maintain their unique identity. True connection and a healthy marriage can only occur when each retains their own personalities, passions, and beliefs. When the members of a relationship show up as authentic to their desires, they become world-class versions of themselves that embrace the skills and gifts and their spouse. After all, your partner fell in love with the unique individual that is you! Make sure you don’t deprive them of your authentic soul. >>

Key 2: Relationship Polarity for a Healthy Marriage Is your partner the yang to your yin? No matter how similar you and your spouse are, chances are you both provide a different energy that comes with a wide range of tendencies and desires (and that is a beautiful thing!) Relationship polarity refers to understanding these differing tendencies, and the feminine and masculine energies that come with them. For example, I often see women taking on a “leading role” in relationships without allowing the masculine to provide the inputs necessary for a truly divine union. Conversely, men often fall into the trap of failing to appreciate the nurturing qualities women provide. When this occurs, frustration and control can take root, which impacts other areas such as intimacy and parenthood. Healthy relationship polarity looks like finding the ideal energy balance for a thriving, healthy marriage. This looks like the feminine energy allowing the masculine to lead when necessary, and the masculine remembering to praise their partner for their nurturing qualities. In this way, the natural gifts of each person are appreciated instead of shunned, and a healthier connection is embraced.

WOMEN THRIVE / 19

COACHING

Key 4: Sacred Intimacy in Your Healthy Marriage Here is a core belief I am willing to shout from the rooftops: sacred intimacy is more than just sex; it is a soul connection with your partner! Science backs this up, and studies have shown that emotional intimacy often increases sexual desires. That’s one way of saying that a healthy marriage with clear communication correlates to a steamier bedroom! So what are the immediate steps a couple should take to take this soul connection to the next level? The recommendations I make to couples striving towards a healthy marriage are two-fold:

1. Learn one another’s love language to help navigate both conflict and romance and... 2. Get clear on your goals for the future both in and out of the bedroom. (Here is a chance for you to be precise and explicit!) A mutual vision for the ideal sexual relationship can pave the way to a happy, healthy marriage (not to mention, a rockin’ sex life.)

“Healthy marriage with clear communication correlates to a steamier bedroom.”

Using Your Spiritual Connection for a Healthy Marriage Stepping into daily relationship routines with a spiritual lens can provide a powerful platform for fully embracing relationship mastery. Instead of viewing challenges in your marriage as areas where sacrifices are needed, remember that authenticity is needed to help you create the healthiest version of your marriage (and yourself!) possible. So, allow yourself to be the weird, funny, playful being you are, and do the same for your partner. A healthy marriage may just depend on it.

Dance & Thrive

Harnessing Movement as Medicine for Women's Wellbeing by Marie Ferguson

22 / WOMEN THRIVE

WOMEN THRIVE / 23

“Dancing had always been my channel for storytelling.” Rediscovering Dance Amid pulsating music and blinding lights, my heart raced as I stood backstage, eager for the performance to begin. As the familiar song enveloped me, I instinctively began to move, feeling an electrifying sense of power and expression. I was 15. Dancing had always been my channel for storytelling, for feeling truly alive. Yet, as I embraced adulthood with its demands and responsibilities, why did I stop dancing for me? Unravelling the Neurological Impact From infancy, we instinctively react to music, moving in rhythm before we can even walk. Recent studies uncovered the neurological impact of dance, revealing its role in sensory integration, coordination, and emotional expression from an early age. A 2008 Scientific American article proposed an intriguing idea: the synchronization of music and movement in dance represents a "pleasure double play". The scientist highlighted that music stimulates the brain's reward centers, while dance simultaneously activates sensory and motor circuits.

Babies, even at a few months old, respond to music by swaying or moving in rhythm, showcasing an inherent connection between music, movement, and brain development. This primal link supports sensory integration, coordination, and emotional expression from infancy. What if we could take the lead from our children, and dance every day? It's like a daily gift I give myself. Let me tell you why it's incredible for us women. Firstly, it's an amazing workout that not only gets our bodies moving but also lifts our spirits. It's a natural mood booster and stress reliever. But it's more than just exercise - it's a chance to express ourselves freely. Dancing connects us to our emotions and unleashes our creativity in the most joyful way possible. You know what else? It's a confidence builder! They bring out a strength and grace we might not have known we had, reshaping how we see ourselves. It's my little escape from the everyday grind. Dancing lets me tap into my playful side and find joy, even amid life's chaos. Dancing every day isn't just about fitness; it's a holistic approach to feeling good. It touches every part of my life body, mind, and soul. And let me tell you, it's a practice that brings warmth, happiness, and empowerment into every single day. Dancing is a powerhouse for brain health and our feelgood neurotransmitters like dopamine and oxytocin. When we dance, especially in a way that feels enjoyable and engaging, our brain releases dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. This surge of dopamine contributes to the feelings of joy, satisfaction, and motivation that dancing often brings. Additionally, dancing stimulates the release of oxytocin, often dubbed the ‘love hormone’. Oxytocin is linked to social bonding, trust, and emotional connection. When we dance with others or even solo, the physical movement and the social interaction associated with dancing can trigger the release of oxytocin, fostering trust and empathy. Dancing, with its release of neurotransmitters, elevates mood, alleviates stress, and reduces anxiety and depression. The brain's response to dancing creates a positive feedback loop, encouraging us to continue this activity that brings us joy and a sense of wellbeing. Personally, dancing helps me process emotions (even when I'm sad or angry), shifting me to a higher state when dopamine and oxytocin kick in. >>

BODY & MIND

Improving Focus and Engagement In various school environments, be it primary or secondary settings where I've taught, there's a clear craving among children and teens for movement/brain breaks. Did you know that incorporating dance into these breaks has shown a 65% increase in students' engagement and focus levels? Dancing's impact on brain health is evident in its challenges - learning steps, coordinating movements, and memory - aiding neuroplasticity. Research reveals that frequent dancing reduces dementia risk by 76%, as detailed in the New England Journal of Medicine. This holistic practice, blending exercise, social engagement, and emotional uplift, fortifies various brain regions. Regular dancing, whether at home, with family, or in a class, offers immediate physical and emotional benefits while also supporting longterm brain health. It's a fun and effective way to stay mentally sharp and resilient as we grow older.

“Dance embodies life’s rhythms, guiding us to harmonize with the world and make a sacred connection.”

Embodied Expression: Grounding the Physical and Spiritual Dance became a sacred ritual in my journey, a canvas for emotions and intuition, bridging the physical and spiritual. Whether it be barefoot, under the open sky, or on a stage where I would breakdance and step into my hard-core hip-hop vibes, I danced. The divine feminine, intricately linked to the Earth and its cycles, found solace in the rhythm of my bare feet against the ground. It was more than movement; it was a conscious connection to the Earth. In the dance's ebb and flow, I felt the activation of energy centers, the chakras within me. Like ancient wisdom whispered through movement, dance awakened my energy centers. A rhythmic journey through my spiritual landscape - releasing stagnation and welcoming life force. Reclaiming Body Wisdom: A Sacred Celebration Consciously and intentionally, I moved. In a world that objectifies women's bodies, dance became my intentional reclamation of ownership and wisdom over my sacred vessel. It declared my body a revered temple, inspiring my daughter to honor her expression and creativity. Dance embodies life's rhythms, guiding us to harmonize with the world. It's my meditative path - a sacred connection to inner wisdom, guiding every aspect of my life's journey. How do you dance through life's sacred moments, finding grace in every step, breath, and experience?

PUBLIC RELATIONS

People often ask me if there is a secret sauce to getting yourself out there in the press. I wouldn’t say there is a secret sauce, but to quote an old boss of mine ‘there is the traditional way of doing it, and Sarah’s way’.

Publicity Doesn’t Have to be Pushy by Sarah Lloyd

I

n the past I wasn’t sure how to take this, but now I get it. ‘My way’ is not new, it is not actually “my” way. My way is following my gut instinct, my intuition, the whispers and nudges if you will. In fact, in this new age of Aquarius, and the rise of the feminine business owner, many have spoken about using our intuition in business for some years now. When you are tuning in, listening to the heart and using your intuition as a guide, you cannot fail. It is also a much gentler, fluid, and more feminine way of ‘doing business’. When an individual or brand steps out of their comfort zone, they are widening their immediate sphere of influence. Contrary to what some coaches will have you think, gaining awareness through publicity is a slow and continuous journey. It is all about showing up in your truth it is also about connection and chemistry. Because after all, people buy people. And people buy people who provide relevant, inspiring and educational content. The journey will invariably take many twists and turns - there is the expansion and contraction as we level up, and sometimes that can hold us back.

26 / WOMEN THRIVE

In the media, we are slowly moving away from the ‘witch hunt’ reporting style that has been favored in the past. We are seeing a shift from the old way of doing things. Readers desire a more truthful and meaningful connection through storytelling. Over the years, we have seen a lot of fearbased reporting, mainly in the news segments of shows and publications, scaring us into submission, ensuring we are doing as we are told. However, where there is fear in the news, the features and stories often in the same publications are carrying balanced, happy and motivational messages. Unfortunately, society has become a slave to fear and sharing a message of fear. Working in the corporate world amongst suits who only understood or cared about numbers, your driver became that – a numbers game… We invest X$ equals XX amount of results. We tell ‘them’ what we think they want to hear. Equals sales and getting ahead of the competition. The fear that you wouldn’t meet your numbers, make your sales, beat the competition. It gets you so far – of course it does. It is the way we have always worked.

But this way is killing our world slowly… We are consumed, we are all junkies, we all want more, our phones are designed so we would rather fall off a cliff taking a selfie than, god forbid, enjoying the scenery. It is never enough. It has to stop. The good news is, consumers are smarter than ever before. They are waking up and smelling the bullshit. Some are switching off the news or choosing to limit the types of information they are consuming; some are doing their own research, comparing and contrasting before making a decision. Thanks to the covid years, and the subsequent cost of living crisis, we don’t mindlessly buy things we don’t need – not after toilet rolls and pasta became like gold dust… Remember that? Some are so clever they can see brands and copycat marketing campaigns a mile away.

“The good news is, consumers are smarter than ever before. They are waking up and smelling the bullshit.” Crudely, if you were to strip it all back, there are normally one or two tiny things that make the products you are comparing different. It’s like when you make a cake – some taste amazing and melt in your mouth, others not so much, but essentially the same three key ingredients are the same in both cakes. Saying this, I am not trying to bring fear into publicity - it is actually the opposite. Love and embrace the fact that there are always going to be the same ingredients in a service, product or an offering. And yes, there are things that set your offering apart from the others – because what you have created is needed for at least one person – which essentially will change their world. You literally can change ONE person’s entire WORLD just by sharing your experience! When we get caught up in the push around something, we get into our masculine energy (sorry chaps) and can forget why we started out on that road in the first place. We get caught up in the mindset of ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’. ‘I want to appear in that publication because she is.’ The wrong kind of #metoo.

Publicity plays to the Ego, and people often ask me how I can provide a PR service which doesn’t play to the Ego and is more conscious. Easy. You check in with yourself A LOT. You open yourself up to vulnerability. You are Brave. You ask the questions… What is driving me to make this phone call? Why am I chasing this feature opportunity? Why do I want to be in this magazine / on that sofa? If the answer is something along the lines of, Because they are my people and my people watch that show or read that magazine. I just want to be in service. I will make a difference to those readers / viewers.

“You literally can change one person’s entire world just by sharing your experience! ” WOMEN THRIVE / 27

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Then you are in alignment with your purpose and truth. And it will become easy to get results if you take inspired action. If it’s because someone else is having an impact on your why, you are in Ego mode. ‘I want to be in that magazine because x is’ or ‘she did it’, you are in comparison, jumping into someone else’s lane and out of your own alignment. And most likely, it will be hard to get results. If you are thinking about telling your story or promoting a product through the media, you can do it gently, slowly and with purpose and on your terms! I have a membership group that I am working with, who are securing amazing results because they are working with their energy and their flow.

“You are in comparison, jumping into someone else’s lane and out of your own alignment. And most likely it will be hard to get results.” Checking in with every opportunity to ensure that it feels good and matches what they are doing in their business. Recognising that if something isn’t flowing, it may not be the right choice or time for them. If you have set the intention you wish to share your story often, that is all it takes, and opportunities will spin towards you that you never even dreamed of because the universe has a sense of humor. You don’t have to go into full on ‘hard’ launch mode. Really you don’t! Whatever is meant for you will never pass you by – in fact being pushy sometimes means you push it away until you are ready to share your story from the right place.

BUSINESS

W

hether you have a team or you intend to create one, knowing what steps will lead you to a motivated team will help you select the right people, achieve great results in your business, and have happy and devoted employees. How can a motivated team be defined? A team can be considered motivated when its members are engaged in accomplishing the company’s goals and consistently give their best to achieve them. Without experience or professional guidance, it might be difficult for an entrepreneur to identify and pay attention to those specific key factors that form the pillars and structure of a motivated team. Sometimes, motivation is seen as the responsibility of the employee, confusing personal motivation with employee motivation. This kind of perspective might prevent the employer from taking responsibility for having a motivated team.

“To have a motivated team you, as an employer, need to take full responsibility and have a strategy.” 30 / WOMEN THRIVE

Without a clear objective to build a motivated team, employers might neglect to formulate a strategic action plan and invest the necessary resources. Their efforts might be sporadic and inconsistent, lacking a clear direction. More precisely, why is employee motivation the employer’s responsibility? As mentioned earlier, employee motivation is related to companies’ goals. These are settled in the company’s benefit and directly affect the company. Personal motivation is related to personal goals. Achieving personal goals leads directly to personal benefits and satisfaction. The fact that personal goals include professional goals may create this confusion. If a company doesn’t facilitate the accomplishment of the professional goals of the employees, their motivation will be low. This will most likely lead to low engagement, poor results, dissatisfaction, and waste of time, money, and energy in actions aimed at fixing these consequences.

1. The First Step to Creating a Motivated Team: Hiring Candidates That Are Motivated by The Job Offer You can assess candidates' levels of motivation by identifying their professional goals and expectations and considering to what extent the job offer matches these aspects. You can do this by: 1 - Analyzing the candidate's previous jobs and comparing them to your offer in terms such as responsibilities, position in the organizational chart, income level, benefits, development opportunities, culture and, in general, every aspect that may have impacted the candidate’s previous experiences, in a positive, neutral or negative way. Previous experiences play a major role in how a candidate perceives a job offer. In general, candidates will be satisfied with a job offer that provides more than what they had before. You can do this by analyzing the candidate’s CV, asking questions related to these aspects, and researching the companies where the candidate worked before. Every piece of information that you have in this regard will contribute to forming an accurate image of the candidate’s previous experiences and will help you have a motivated team. 2 - Making a clear and accurate presentation of the job. This way, the candidate can decide if they like it and want it, based on accurate information. When candidates form false expectations about the job and then encounter reality, they can become dissatisfied, which will affect their engagement and results. 3 - Asking the candidates about their professional development goals will also help you determine if they will stay motivated in the long run. According to Harvard Business Review, the lack of growth opportunities is one of the top 3 reasons people consider leaving a company. 4 - Even if a job includes the activities and responsibilities wanted by the candidate, and offers a higher income, what can be a deal breaker is the leadership. Surveys such as the one conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) show exactly this. The employees are motivated to accomplish the company's goals when these lead to the accomplishment of their personal goals.

WOMEN THRIVE / 31

BUSINESS

“Feedback will help you understand how employees perceive different aspects of their jobs.”

2. The Second Step to Have a Motivated Team: Periodically Ask for Employee Feedback About Their Roles A second step an employer can take to have a motivated team is to ask for the team members' feedback about their jobs after they have spent a certain amount of time in the company, for example, six months, and thereafter annually. This feedback will help you understand how employees perceive different aspects of their jobs. It creates an opportunity for employees to express what they appreciate about their jobs, what their concerns are, and what they would like to change or improve. Employers can then derive solutions and inspiration to make improvements directly from this feedback. The employees’ perceptions about their jobs inevitably impact their behaviors within the company. By asking for their feedback, they are allowed to express their perspectives efficiently and healthily. Efficient, because they express their views directly to the person who has the power to maintain and change things in the company. Healthy, because the aspects that are not well received can lead to tensions, conflicts, negative attitudes, disengagement, and can influence others, potentially creating an unpleasant work environment. Creating the opportunity to express and discuss these aspects gives the employee an accepted framework and can prevent these negative consequences. Therefore, to have a motivated team you, as an employer, need to take full responsibility and have a strategy and a process through which you create and maintain employee motivation. It starts with choosing motivated candidates for hiring and continues with periodically collecting the employees’ feedback about their experiences in your company and, based on that, taking meaningful actions for them that will increase their job satisfaction and motivation.

MINDSET

A

Are you a working mom constantly juggling the demands of your career, family, and personal life? Do you ever feel like you're expected to be a superhero, effortlessly balancing all aspects of your life? Maybe you’re closer to burnout than you realize. And you're not alone. Many of us have been chasing the elusive dream of "doing it all" – a supermom who excels in every role without breaking a sweat. But here's the harsh truth: it's impossible to do it all.

The NEW Narrative of Thriving Working Moms by Sally Wade The Impossible Motherhood Ideal Society has placed an immense burden on working mothers by perpetuating the idea that they must seamlessly manage their careers, homes, and families while looking fabulous and stress-free. This perfect mother myth is an unrealistic ideal of motherhood, can be suffocating, creating unnecessary stress and anxiety. Working moms often feel the pressure to meet this impossible standard, leaving them overwhelmed and burned out. The mental load, the constant worry and responsibility, can become unbearable.

The Heavy Mental Load

“This perfect mother myth is an unrealistic ideal of motherhood, can be suffocating, creating unnecessary stress and anxiety.” 34 / WOMEN THRIVE

The mental load is like a backpack filled with responsibilities, worries, and endless to-do lists. It's the mental gymnastics that working moms engage in, trying to remember school events, grocery lists, work deadlines, and family appointments all at once. This constant mental juggling can drain your energy and leave you feeling frazzled. It's important to understand that carrying this heavy mental load doesn't make you a better mother or a more successful professional. In fact, it often has the opposite effect, leaving you stressed, anxious, and unable to fully enjoy any aspect of your life.

“Prioritizing selfcare means recognizing that your well-being is crucial for your family and career.”

The Need for a New Narrative

So, what's the solution? It's time to rewrite the narrative for working moms. Embrace the idea that imperfect balance is not only acceptable but essential for your well-being and success. Here are some key steps to help you release the mental load and thrive as a working mom: 1. Prioritize Self-Care No, really, this time! As working mothers, we’ve bought into the myth that being tired is the norm for moms, after all we’re “doing it all” for our families, right? Here’s the thing: Taking care of yourself is not a luxury but a necessity. Prioritizing self-care means recognizing that your well-being is crucial for your family and career. And I’m not talking about spa days here. I’m talking about things that you can do in as little as 10 minutes to help rebuild your energy. Your energy is a finite resource so you need to take time to recharge and protect your energy levels. Whether it's a short walk, a quiet moment with a book, making time for activities that recharge your batteries and build your resilience is critical. You’ll be more able to face the curve balls that WILL be coming your way. It’s time to start putting self-care at the top of your list instead of the bottom. 2. Stop Gatekeeping I’ll admit that maternal gatekeeping is something I’ve been guilty of. You know the “it’s just easier if I do it myself” conversation that you have when your partner or someone else offers to “help”? Or “why am I the only one who knows how things work around here?”. You really don’t have to do it all alone. You do need to decide what YOU will do, and what you’re prepared to let go of. On your “let go” list, you need to decide what someone else needs to do and what will not get done. You do not have to do it ALL. Focus on what’s important for you and your family, and let the rest go, all those things that you “should” be doing? They probably belong in the trash folder and not on your To Do list! And those things you delegate to someone else? LET THEM DO IT! You can have a conversation about how you expect this to happen, but then you need to let it go and let them do it. No more gatekeeping! >> WOMEN THRIVE / 35

3. Perfect is not Possible (or Healthy) Let go of the need to be perfect in every role. Embrace the idea that some days will be messy, and that's okay. Set realistic expectations for yourself at work and at home. It's essential to understand that balance means prioritizing what's most important in the moment. 4. The Art of Saying 'No' As a working mom, you're often pulled in multiple directions, with requests and obligations coming from all angles. Learning to say 'no' when necessary is a powerful tool in managing your mental load. Psychology Today talks about the Power of Saying No. So not only are you protecting your time and energy, you’re creating better boundaries and building your self-esteem. Remember whatever you’re saying “yes” to means that you’re saying “no” to something else. It might be an activity or it might be your own mental health that you’re saying “no” to by piling up too many “yeses” onto your plate. The easiest “no” you’ll ever say is to those things that are not aligned to what is important to you. So the art of No means knowing your values, what’s important and what success means for you.

“Let go of the need to be perfect in every role.” Embrace Imperfect Balance

In the pursuit of thriving as a working mom, it's crucial to let go of the impossible motherhood ideal and create a new narrative that emphasizes the beauty of imperfect balance. The mental load you carry doesn't define your worth or your ability to succeed. By prioritizing self-care, delegating responsibilities, setting realistic expectations, and learning to say 'no’, you can release that mental load and thrive in both your career and motherhood. Remember, the key to thriving as working moms is not about doing more; it's about doing the right things and doing it with intention. Embrace the imperfect balance, and you'll discover a newfound sense of empowerment and fulfilment in your journey as a working mom. 36 / WOMEN THRIVE

The Food Truck Industry WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS by Adrienne Benedetto

R

unning a business in the food industry can be a challenging endeavor. But when you add the fact that you’re a woman in a man’s world, the obstacles can seem insurmountable. However, with hard work, determination, and a strong support system, you can own and operate a successful food truck business.

“As a woman, you may face additional challenges when it comes to starting and running a food truck business.”

38 / WOMEN THRIVE

First and foremost, it’s essential to have a clear vision of what you want your food truck to be. What’s your niche? What kind of cuisine will you offer? How will you stand out from the competition? Once you’ve answered these questions, it’s time to start planning. One of the most critical aspects of running a food truck business is ensuring that you’re compliant with all local and state regulations. This includes obtaining the necessary permits and licenses, passing health inspections, and adhering to food safety guidelines. It can be a daunting task, but it’s essential to ensure the safety of your customers and the longevity of your business. As a woman, you may face additional challenges when it comes to starting and running a food truck business. For example, you may encounter discrimination or bias from potential investors, suppliers, or customers. It’s important to remember that you have the right to run your business on your terms and to seek out resources and support systems that can help you overcome these obstacles. One such resource is networking with other female business owners in the industry. Joining groups and organizations that support women entrepreneurs can provide valuable connections and mentorship opportunities. It can also be a source of inspiration and motivation to see other women succeeding in the food industry.

Another way to stand out in a male-dominated industry is to focus on your unique strengths and perspective. As a woman, you may have a different approach to cooking or running a business than your male counterparts. Embrace these differences and use them to your advantage. For example, you may be more attuned to the needs and preferences of female customers, which can give you a competitive edge. In addition to networking and embracing your strengths, it’s essential to prioritize self-care and work-life balance. Running a food truck business can be incredibly demanding, both physically and mentally. Make sure to take breaks and prioritize time for yourself, whether that means practicing yoga, meditating, or spending time with loved ones. Remember, your well-being is essential for the success of your business.

“With a clear vision, careful planning, and a strong support system.” 1. Believe in Yourself - Starting a business can be daunting, but it's important to believe in yourself and your abilities. Trust that you have the skills and knowledge to make your business a success. 2. Do Your Research - Before starting any business, it's important to do your research. Understand the industry, your competition, and your target audience. This will help you make informed decisions and create a solid business plan. 3. Invest in Quality - Investing in quality equipment, products, and services can save you time and money in the long run. Don't cut corners when it comes to the essentials of your business. 4. Build a Strong Team - Surround yourself with a reliable and dedicated team that shares your vision and values. A strong team can help you achieve your goals and overcome challenges. 5. Focus on Customer Service - Providing excellent customer service is key to building a loyal customer base. Make sure that your customers feel valued and appreciated.

Running a successful business requires hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn and grow. As a female business owner, it's important to stay true to your values and vision while also being open to new ideas and opportunities. With perseverance and a strong work ethic, anything is possible. In conclusion, owning and running a food truck business as a woman in a man’s world can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. With a clear vision, careful planning, and a strong support system, you can succeed in the food industry. Remember to prioritize compliance, networking, self-care, and embracing your unique perspective and strengths. With these tools at your disposal, the sky’s the limit. My daughters work beside me in the food truck and I hope they are empowered and know that there isn't anything nor anyone that can stand in your way when you work to make your dreams come true.

Adrienne Benedetto

As a successful female business owner, I understand the challenges that come with running your own company. Does My Business Need a Well-Designed Website? by Jessica Lehmann

T

hink about the last time you made a purchase or booked a service. First, you probably went online to research and look at reviews, then narrowed your decision to two or three companies. When you were making your final decision, one company didn’t have a website, the other had a DIY website, and the third company had a professional, well-designed website…Which company did you choose? You chose the company with a well-designed website because you believe they will provide a higher quality service or product. Right?! This is no different for YOUR potential clients. Think about it, what impression does your website, or lack thereof, say about your company? You have one chance for a first impression, leave it to a professional.

ACCORDING TO FORBES, YOUR WEBSITE'S DESIGN HAS A HUGE IMPACT ON HOW CUSTOMERS PERCEIVE YOUR BRAND AND OFFERINGS. IF IT'S POORLY DESIGNED, IT CAN TURN AWAY 88% OF POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS BEFORE YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO TALK WITH THEM. So, what can provide you with the fastest and most significant return on investment, that will boost your company’s sales, and grow your business? The answer is simple: a professional website. Here's why: 42 / WOMEN THRIVE

#1: Builds Instant Credibility and Trust 75% of consumers admit to making judgments on a company’s credibility based on the company’s website design. You are probably thinking to yourself, ‘it’s fine, I have social media’ - but what do your competitors have? To stay competitive, check if your competitors have a website because 71% of businesses do. If you don’t have a website but your competitors do, it may give the impression that your business lacks professionalism and commitment. 84% of consumers believe a business’s website is more credible than its social media page, which brings me to my next point…

84% OF CONSUMERS BELIEVE A BUSINESS’S WEBSITE IS MORE CREDIBLE THAN ITS SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE

#2: First Impressions If your website looks unprofessional, potential clients may think you're trying to cut corners to save money and might assume you do the same with your products and services. A professional website tells potential clients that your company is reliable and committed to staying in business, rather than being a hobby or experiment. If you are a law firm, therapist, dentist, accountant, agent, groomer, service provider, etc, and don’t have a professional-looking website, your potential clients will find a competitor with a website that makes them feel more comfortable and confident. C’mon, you’ve felt that way too, right?! Think about the last time you were searching for a service and were comparing…a website is one of the first things you look for to gauge a company’s level of professionalism and quality. When a potential client visits your website, you have less than a minute to make an impression on them before they decide to stay or leave your site (AND recommend that site to friends). That is why you fight the urge to DIY your website and trust a professional. Small businesses that use their websites to connect with customers experience an average revenue growth of 15-50%. That is a HUGE ROI. Still not convinced?

USE A WEBSITE TO DISPLAY YOUR WORK TO POTENTIAL CLIENTS AT ANY TIME, AND THE WEBSITE WILL APPEAR IN SOME OF THE EIGHT-BILLION DAILY SEARCH ENGINE REQUESTS.

WHEN A POTENTIAL CLIENT VISITS YOUR WEBSITE, YOU HAVE LESS THAN A MINUTE TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION ON THEM BEFORE THEY DECIDE TO STAY OR LEAVE YOUR SITE

#3: 24/7 Billboard for your company 87% of shoppers conduct online research regularly, if not always, before buying. Imagine if you could display your company highlights as you interact with people throughout your day - like a walking billboard above your head! Since technology isn’t there yet, guess what the next best thing is: a website! You can use a website to display your work to potential clients at any time, AND the website will appear in some of the eight-billion daily search engine requests. This is music to every overworkedbusiness-owner's ears. YOU don’t have to be ‘on’ 24/7. If you have past projects, show them; if you have products, highlight them. It is crucial to grab a visitor's attention within a minute of them landing on your website. A professional website can effectively captivate them and direct them to what you want them to do (book an appointment, sign up, fill out a form, etc). >>

#4: Reviews and Local Searches Google Reviews & Local Maps: a staggering 77% of shoppers actively search for websites with ratings and reviews. Guess what?! I can add Google reviews to your website and customize them to match your website/company colors. 97% of people learn about a local business online. Create a professional website that incorporates Google Reviews, and Maps, and will show up in search results appealing to local shoppers.

ACCORDING TO A REPORT BY FORRESTER RESEARCH A WELL-DESIGNED FAQ SECTION CAN RESULT IN A 25-30% REDUCTION IN CUSTOMER SUPPORT INQUIRIES. #5: Free up your day with FAQs, Forms, and Online Scheduling According to a report by Forrester Research, a well-designed FAQ section can result in a 25-30% reduction in customer support inquiries. Most businesses know the 80/20 rule. 80% of your day is spent answering the same 20% of tasks. Why not let your website take that burden off your already weighed-down small business shoulders? For business owners, every minute is important. Having a website with Forms and FAQs helps relieve some of the tedious admin tasks or repeating the same phrases 80% of your day! It will also help better organize leads, subscribers, job applicants, orders, appointments, etc. According to GetApp, offering online scheduling not only provides flexibility to your customers, but it can increase staff productivity by 30%!

Think about the last big purchase you made. What did you do before the purchase? Search online, look for reviews, check a company’s social media, and then look at a company’s website to better understand their professionalism and credibility. A well-designed website impresses potential clients, builds trust, appears in search results, and acts as a virtual salesperson showcasing products, services, and reviews 24/7. It also helps streamline tasks, reduce administrative work, and stay better organized through forms and FAQs. What is a successful website? That depends on what success looks like for your company. A successful website drives client behaviors that lead to success for your business - like visitor signups, form submissions, appointments, orders, new leads, etc. In order to have a successful website, you first have to capture a potential client’s attention so they will engage in your website. SO YES, YOUR COMPANY HAS A MUCH BETTER CHANCE OF BEING SUCCESSFUL WITH A PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE.

WELLNESS

A Roadmap to Your Dream Reality

From Meditation to Manifestation by Michele Schalin

“Meditation serves as a pathway to self-love through the cultivation of compassion and empathy.

W

hen you unleash the superpower of meditation, you’ll experience the magic of a holistic practice that will elevate every aspect of your life, leading to a full-blown Mindful Metamorphosis! Its influence extends far beyond the meditation cushion, seeping into every aspect of your life. By fostering self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and a sense of inner calm, meditation empowers you to navigate the complexities of life with grace, mindfulness, and a profound sense of well-being. In a world characterized by constant noise and perpetual busyness, the practice of meditation stands out as a beacon of serenity and self-discovery. Rooted in ancient traditions, meditation has transcended cultural boundaries to become a widely embraced tool for enhancing mental, emotional, and physical well-being. This article explores the myriad benefits of meditation, shedding light on its transformative power and its ability to cultivate a harmonious balance between mind and body, enabling you to manifest the life you desire.

Mindful Meditation Cultivates Empathy, Compassion and Self Love

Meditation serves as a pathway to self-love through the cultivation of compassion and empathy. By fostering a kind and unconditional acceptance of yourself, you can navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and a deeper sense of well-being. Your practice becomes a transformative journey towards not only understanding but also embracing and loving yourself. There are many types of meditation, but this specific form of meditation is designed to enhance feelings of love and compassion, not only towards others but also towards oneself. Repetition is how the sub-conscious brain learns so practitioners typically repeat phrases or affirmations that express good wishes and love, gradually extending these sentiments to include oneself. This encourages individuals to recognize their own struggles and challenges with a compassionate and understanding mindset. This present-moment focus facilitates a more compassionate relationship with oneself. Through meditation, individuals become more attuned to their inner dialogue, helping to break the cycle of negative self-talk and selfcriticism by promoting a mindset of selfacceptance and kindness.

WELLNESS

Mindful Self-Awareness

Meditation encourages individuals to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment. This non-judgmental awareness allows for a deeper understanding of oneself. By acknowledging both positive and negative aspects without self-criticism, individuals can cultivate self-compassion. Individuals become more in tune with their emotional states, allowing them to express themselves authentically and communicate their needs more effectively.

Fostering a Positive Relationship with the Self

Regular meditation contributes to an overall positive and nurturing relationship with oneself. This leads to increased self-love as individuals learn to treat themselves with the same care and compassion they would extend to a close friend. Meditation plays a pivotal role in emotional processing and regulation, leading to improved communication and more mindful responses to life's challenges, transforming how individuals communicate and respond to the world around them. This heightened awareness facilitates the processing of emotions, allowing you to understand the root causes and navigate through them with greater ease. This skill becomes especially valuable in managing stress, anxiety, and other challenging emotions. By fostering mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence, meditation empowers individuals to engage with their emotions in a constructive manner, leading to more authentic, empathetic, and mindful interactions with others.

Mindful Communication

Regular meditation enhances communication by promoting active listening and thoughtful responses, instead of “waiting to respond” or interrupting. Mindful individuals are more attuned to the present moment, allowing for more meaningful and empathetic interactions with others. Regular meditators observe a reduction in impulsive reactions. Rather than reacting impulsively to a situation, individuals who practice meditation develop the ability to respond thoughtfully, choosing their actions based on a clear and centered state of mind. Once you hone this amazing skill, you’ll soon see how it will improve all your relationships, both personal and professional.

“Regular meditation enhances communication by promoting active listening and thoughtful responses.” Stress Reduction

Meditation combined with breathwork is renowned for its unparalleled ability to alleviate stress. By engaging in mindfulness meditation, you learn to bring your attention to the present moment, letting go of worries about the past or future. This shift in focus allows for a profound relaxation response, reducing the production of stress hormones and promoting a sense of calm. 46 / WOMEN THRIVE

LESS STRESS HORMONES = STRONGER IMMUNE SYSTEM Scientific studies have proven meditation and breathwork have a direct positive impact on the immune system. Reduced stress and enhanced emotional well-being associated with meditation will contribute to a healthier immune response, ultimately supporting the body's ability to fend off illnesses.

Improved Focus and Concentration

In a world filled with distractions, cultivating the ability to concentrate is a valuable skill. Meditation, particularly mindfulness meditation, strengthens the neural pathways associated with attention and focus. As a result, individuals who meditate regularly often report heightened cognitive abilities and improved task performance. This heightened mental focus can even improve your sex life, allowing you to be fully present with your partner and have a more fulfilling sexual experience!

“With our fast-paced world filled with constant demands and challenges, a meditation practice emerges as a powerful antidote.”

Mind-Body Connection

Meditation encourages a deep connection between the mind and body. Through practices like body scan meditation, individuals develop an acute awareness of physical sensations, fostering a holistic understanding of their well-being. This mind-body connection leads to improved health outcomes and a greater sense of self-care. With our fast-paced world filled with constant demands and challenges, a meditation practice emerges as a powerful antidote, offering a sanctuary of stillness and self-discovery. The benefits of meditation extend far beyond momentary relaxation; they encompass a holistic transformation of the mind, body, and spirit. Embrace this practice and watch your life unfold, effortlessly bringing your dreams to reality. You can find a treasure trove of information about scientific studies proving the transformative benefits of meditation online. Here is a small sample. Healing the Sister Wound to Help Women Build Stronger Connections

L

et's talk about something we don’t often admit. We have all felt it - that pang of jealousy or suspicion when we see another woman succeeding. Maybe it feels like you're constantly competing with other women for recognition and promotions, or you've struggled to trust other women. These feelings stem from a deeper cause. A wounding that carries the weight of centuries of mistrust, The Sister Wound. It’s been passed down for generations, rooted in centuries of patriarchal oppression that’s pitted women against each other. The word ‘sister’ is used liberally – it's the manifestation of women living in a patriarchal society who have had to use unhealthy coping mechanisms to survive and have not processed that grief and pain. Before patriarchy, before colonialism women depended on other women. It’s our natural default setting to nurture and there were mutual benefits from working together. Then the burning times happened, and fear has been used as a tool to control women and silence those who dare to speak out ever since. Women had to betray their sisters to save themselves. The more divided women became, the less power they had.

by Tina K Kailea

48 / WOMEN THRIVE

As a result, we’re often faced with a unique set of challenges when it comes to building relationships with each other. The subconscious patterns are deeply ingrained and can affect our ability to form authentic and empowering relationships. Healing from the Sister Wound requires a willingness to be vulnerable, let go of old beliefs, and embrace true connection. We’ve got to start with ourselves first and begin with acknowledging that this wound exists and recognizing how it's impacting our relationships and how it manifests in our lives. Start to actively seek out and support other women. We can mentor or sponsor other women in our field, or simply show up to support other women in our personal lives. By doing that we can create a culture of empowerment and allyship that benefits everyone.

“Let’s become allies rather than being enemies and rediscover the beauty of authentic connections.” In business, we can work to create environments that are supportive and empowering for women and advocate for policies that promote gender equity and inclusion or create mentorship programs that help women navigate daily challenges of the workplace. By working together, we can create a culture of empowerment that allows everyone to thrive. Let's support each other. It won't be easy, but it's worth it. Let’s become allies rather than being enemies and rediscover the beauty of authentic connections. Let’s heal our Sister Wound together.

HEALING

Here are a few ways you can step into true connection: 1 / Embracing Vulnerability: Nurturing the Courage to be Seen Show vulnerability. It takes strength to let down our guard and reveal our true selves, with all our fears, insecurities, and struggles. By embracing our weaknesses, we create a safe space where trust and genuine connections can flourish. It’s within these spaces that we realize that we’re not alone in our experiences. Comparison and competition often arise when we feel like we have something to prove. Encourage other women to share their fears and struggles. By being vulnerable with each other, we can create a safe space for connection and empathy. 2 / Shifting from Competition to Collaboration: Empowering Each Other's Success Competition has been the norm in corporate environments, leaving little room for genuine support or collaboration. When we release the need to compete and instead focus on support, something magical happens. We see that we’re stronger together and our collective success outweighs individual achievements. By lifting each other up, we foster an environment where everyone can thrive. Instead of viewing other women as competition, encourage collaboration. Show others how working together can lead to greater success and fulfilment. Share examples of successful partnerships and collaborations. 3 / Celebrating Each Other's Successes: Finding Joy in Collective Triumphs In a world that fosters envy and comparison, celebrating the successes of fellow corporate women becomes a radical act of empowerment. When we genuinely celebrate each other's accomplishments, we cultivate a culture of support, inspiration and encouragement. By embracing a mindset of abundance, we create space for everyone to shine, knowing that one woman's success doesn’t diminish our own. When someone else succeeds, it's easy to feel jealous or resentful. Instead, make a conscious effort to celebrate other women's successes. Congratulate them or offer to take them out for coffee to celebrate. 4 / Nurturing a Positive Culture: Planting Seeds of Kindness and Compassion Gossip and negativity are toxic weeds that thrive in workplaces. To change, we must consciously reject these harmful patterns and instead cultivate a positive culture. By replacing gossip with kindness, criticism with constructive feedback, and judgment with compassion, we sow the seeds of an environment where authentic connections can take root and flourish. Encourage other women to focus on their own growth and development, rather than comparing themselves to others. Emphasize the importance of learning, growth, and improvement. 5 / Cultivating a Growth Mindset: Unleashing Our Unlimited Potential Comparison stems from a fixed mindset that believes success is a finite resource. To overcome that, we must cultivate a growth mindset that recognizes the unlimited potential within each of us. By encouraging personal development, supporting individual journeys, and celebrating progress rather than perfection, we create an environment that values growth, learning, and resilience. Lead by example and show other women how you're working to shed old patterns. Share your own struggles and successes. By being a role model, you can inspire others to do the same.

NUTRITION

Overcoming the Sister Wound requires a willingness to let go of old patterns and beliefs. When we do this, we create a world where women can truly thrive and support each other in business and in life. It not only benefits us as individuals but can also have a positive impact on organizational culture, diversity, and inclusion. When women feel safe and supported in the workplace, they're more likely to contribute their unique perspectives and ideas. This can lead to greater creativity and innovation, which can ultimately benefit the organization as a whole. By fostering a culture of empowerment and collaboration, organizations can attract and keep talented and diverse employees. They're better equipped to advocate for themselves and each other, too. Together, we can create a corporate landscape that values authentic connection, emotional well-being, and the collective power of empowered women.

8 Ways to Build Stronger Connections as a

y l i m a F by Bronwyn Bergen

What does it mean to build connections within your family and how do we do it?

M

ost people believe that love, togetherness, and social connection are more important than things like fame, wealth, and even physical health when it comes to their happiness or their families. Our intuition is right because the lack of connections within a family may represent significant threats. Staying connected as a family fortifies both our mental and physical health. Healthy family connections make sure that people have someone to turn to when in need. It helps in maintaining a balanced mental health state. So, what exactly does it mean to be “connected as a family”? Is it the number of times you talk a day? Is it your perceived closeness or the support you receive? Or is it the level of responsiveness? The answer might surprise you… It’s actually the combination of all of these things. So when it comes to building connections within our family, our goal as parents is to build up our children so that they feel empowered, more confident, and wellsupported without judgment. Then, we must put in the effort.

As the Founder/President of STARS Kids Life Coaches, starkidslifecoaches.com, our STARS Kids Life Coaches help kids build strong connections for themselves and their families by providing them with the tools and resources they need to develop healthy relationships. Our coaches work with kids to build their self-confidence, communication skills, and problem-solving skills. They also help kids to learn how to manage their emotions and cope with stress. When kids have stronger connections with their family and friends, they are more likely to be happy, healthy, and successful. Our family teaches us how to function in the world. It should provide love and warmth to all of its members. A strong family gives its members the support they need to make it through life’s toughest spots. Strong families have open lines of communication where all family members feel heard and respected. One of the best ways to strengthen your family is to increase your listening skills and those of other family members. Until we can hear each other, we cannot build strong relationships.

How to Build Stronger Connections

Here are some of the ways parents can help children build stronger connections: Building self-confidence: Help kids to develop a positive self-image and to believe in their own abilities. This helps them to feel more confident in themselves and in their relationships with others. Having a child recognize their strengths and build on them is paramount. Improving communication skills: Help kids learn how to communicate their thoughts and feelings effectively. This helps them to build stronger relationships with their family and friends. Teaching problem-solving skills: Help kids to learn how to solve problems in a healthy and productive way. This helps them to resolve conflicts and disagreements in their relationships. Managing emotions: Help kids to learn how to manage their emotions in a healthy way. This helps them to cope with stress and to avoid acting out in unhealthy ways.

Creating Stronger Connections

In addition to building a greater number of stronger connections, it’s important that we actually feel connected to the people we spend time with. And the way we interact with people has a direct effect on how connected we feel to them. This is why effective interpersonal communication can be very important. Here are some strategies that family members may use. 1 / Use active listening. Active listening involves being truly present when another person is talking. Nodding, reinforcing what they say, and focusing on them are key actions. Be sure to also avoid letting your mind wander to other things or what you’re going to say next. 2 / Cultivate empathy. Empathy involves mentally and emotionally trying to put yourself in the other person's shoes. See if you can understand what their situation would be like from their perspective. 3 / Be honest. Warm, trusting relationships are built on honesty. So be sure to tell the truth and share your true self with those with whom you want to build connections. 4 / Use emotion regulation. Managing your emotions is key to being able to work through difficulties with those you care about. 5 / Pay attention to nonverbal cues. People say a lot with their body language. Try to pay attention to what other people are telling you with their nonverbal cues. For example, if someone is looking around a lot or backing away from you, they might be ready to leave the conversation. 6 / Share your stories. Self-disclosing personal information (a little bit at a time) can help others feel closer to us. So it can be helpful to use self-disclosure to improve your connections. 7 / Try loving-kindness meditation. Loving-kindness meditation is a type of meditation where we imagine sending love to others. It can help strengthen our skills of compassion, kindness, and love. 8 / Gratitude journaling. Writing a gratitude journal or list can help us appreciate the connections we have and, as a result, bring our best selves to our social interactions. Building stronger connections as a family may just be one of the best things we can do to improve our health and well-being. Although there are lots of ways to do it, they don’t always come easy in our “island unto yourself” world. Modeling these 8 ways to build a stronger connection will be reflected in our children. So taking one step at a time can be a good way to slowly but surely feel more connected and build those long-lasting relationships as a family.
