Woldingham is a community of learning in the fullest sense Central to our philosophy is the belief that academic and personal growth are two sides of the same coin. We have an excellent track record of GCSE and A Level results and strong league table positions, and we are committed to ensuring that our students achieve their chosen places at a wide range of educational destinations including Oxbridge, Russell Group and overseas universities.
Our teachers are our greatest resource: good-humoured and dedicated, they are a blend of vitality and experience,
support and challenge. Our teaching is widely recognised as outstanding and places the school clearly in the top band nationally for adding academic value. Our facilities are exceptional, combining the beauty of the 19th century house and grounds with purposebuilt science laboratories, hubs for humanities and languages, studios for art, drama and music, and a 600-seat auditorium.
Pupils are ambitious learners, eager to make progress. ISI Report 2018
Pioneers of women’s education since 1842 Woldingham School was founded in 1842 by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat. It was one of the first girls’ schools to be established in England and we are part of the Sacred Heart Network which has schools in over 30 countries around the world. Intellect, Faith, Social Awareness, Community and Personal Growth: the five goals of a Sacred Heart education. They bring real clarity to the school’s values, while our Catholic ethos underpins the caring community that is so integral to our school.
Courage and confidence.
Woldingham welcomes girls of all faiths or none. We truly benefit from a diverse community in which all students and staff respect one another and are given time and space for personal reflection. The school has its own chapel where Mass is celebrated every Sunday. Our resident priest offers spiritual guidance, as well as kindness and advice; he also leads our local outreach programme in which girls are encouraged to give back to their community.

Delivering outstanding all-round care underpins everything that we do The importance of pastoral care in a community where every girl is known and supported as an individual cannot be underestimated. We are often asked, ‘What makes a Woldingham girl?’, and we are proud to reply that no such stereotype exists. We believe in learning not just for exams, but for life.
We want each of our girls to be able to thrive, reaching her goals through a balanced, healthy and mindful approach. Our unique THRIVE programme promotes emotional well-being and enables every girl to develop the growth mindset, resilience and self-worth to truly enjoy her successes and learn from her setbacks.

Woldingham excels at teaching girls, inspiring them to grow intellectually and as individuals Our single-sex environment is supportive and stimulating, enabling our pupils to be themselves, and to grow into independent women who will make a positive contribution to the world. Woldingham girls demonstrate time and again that single-sex education bypasses gender-weighted expectations.
Leadership and communication skills are fostered extensively throughout the school, where debating and networking are regular events. The outcome is quietly assured confidence, resilience and an ethos that says ‘I’m proud to be the person I am’.
I’d describe it as a community-driven school; it really loves to bring people together – different types of people, different communities and different cultures. Year 11 pupil
The perfect balance of boarders and day girls - all benefit from the many activities and wrap-around care Our flexibility is a huge positive for modern family life. Full, weekly and flexi-boarding are available throughout the school and day girls in any year are always welcome to stay for clubs, study and supper. Many day girls dip into boarding to suit their family and school commitments, taking advantage of flexi-boarding either occasionally or on a regular basis.
Boarding facilities are excellent, with small dormitories for the younger girls and individual bedrooms from Year 10 upwards. Boarders are both local and international and we are very proud of our diverse mix of over 30 different nationalities. Our girls learn respect and tolerance for all, are introduced to a range of cultures and are well prepared for the increasingly global careers market ahead of them.
A happy and successful school developing confident, compassionate and courageous young women who achieve academic success and become positive influences in the world

Woldingham taught me that I could achieve whatever I set my mind to through diligence and hard work. I read Economics and French at the University of St Andrews and now work at BlackRock Investment Management. The confidence instilled during my schooling has helped me to present in front of senior financial professionals and has enabled me to get involved in a number of high profile initiatives. As I was a full boarder, the school had a significant impact on my personal development. I look back fondly on my years at Woldingham which have been integral in shaping me into the person I am today. Rachel Vinton Vice President - Fixed Income, BlackRock (Woldingham 2004)
Woldingham girls never sit still; they are creative and ambitious. I place much of my professional success on that grounding. After Woldingham, I went on to read Music at Oxford, became an Organ scholar, and am now a qualified lawyer in London. In my spare time I am a rower and long-distance runner. I learned at Woldingham to dream big. I certainly took that with me, and feel as excited about my future as I was on entering Woldingham aged 11. Philippa Winstanley In-house Lawyer, James Grant Group (Woldingham 2009)
Academic enrichment abounds Our students might be deep in conversation with Nobel Laureates via the Cultural Society, or debating with politicians as members of the Greenwell Society. Equally, they may be found absorbed in our home-grown lecture series, with staff and students alike offering insights into their own intellectual curiosities.
Being busy outside the classroom is the norm at Woldingham, and opportunities for character education are plentiful. Planning for the future starts early through our active Careers department, which hosts an impressive array of seminars, speakers, business partnerships, networking and research opportunities.
Pupils are enthusiastic and determined learners, willing to take risks. They demonstrate a determined sense of purpose. ISI Report 2018
Education at Woldingham extends well beyond the classroom We firmly believe in the importance of a well-rounded education. Our co-curricular programme is rich and varied with over 80 clubs on offer across the week and throughout the weekend. Girls are encouraged to balance their study with activity, to be proud of their wider abilities and also to ‘have a go’ and enjoy learning a new skill.
Artists can be bold and experimental in our purposebuilt art studio, while the Performing Arts Centre boasts an impressive 600-seat auditorium. Around this our Music and Drama departments are based; both see girls performing regularly and at the highest standard. Over the years many Woldingham pupils have been selected by national orchestras and drama schools.
Our athletes compete at local, regional and national level, and are helped by the extensive grounds which provide a wide range of excellent sporting facilities.
Exceptional levels of performance and creativity.

Woldingham is a busy and happy place Girls are encouraged to nurture respect for self, each other and for the environment they live in. The outcome is a community which promotes team spirit and builds friendships which last a lifetime.
All boarders and day girls are assigned to one of the four Houses so, whilst they live and learn amongst their own
age group, they compete, celebrate and play together with members of their House across all year groups. There is a tremendous sense of pride, identity and belonging within each of the Houses and the numerous inter-House events are understandably highlights of the school year.
Pupils have a strong appreciation of the non-material aspects of life... they show a genuine appreciation of how kindness makes for a better family-orientated community. ISI Report 2018
