QSU honors WKU student at Transgender Day of Remembrance event

WKU’s Queer Student Union put on its first Transgender Day of Remembrance event to pay respect to transgender people who have lost their lives to anti-trans violence.
Lady Toppers suffer tough loss to Vanderbilt

WKU Women’s Basketball could not overcome Vanderbilt’s top-to-bottom performance in its 87-49 defeat Wednesday night, its second straight home loss.
The Commodores’ domination started with aggressive defense, which turned into efficient offense. Vanderbilt forced 24 WKU turnovers, converting to 25 points. The Commodores shot 49% on 67 shots, besting WKU’s 33% on 55 shots.
“They just seemed comfortable,” redshirt sophomore forward Tatum Boettjer said. “We really never got them out of their system.”
WKU Volleyball takes home 4 conference awards

WKU Volleyball took home four of the six CUSA postseason awards ahead of the CUSA tournament. The Hilltoppers had six earn All-Conference team honors.
Senior setter Callie Bauer earned Setter of the Year and Alyssa Cavanaugh Player of the Year. Junior Middle Hitter Izzy Van De Wiele earned Defensive Player of the Year, and freshman outside hitter Kaira Knox earned Freshman of the Year. Knox was named to the CUSA All-Freshman team.
Sophomore outside hitters Faith Young and Alivia Skidmore were named to the CUSA All-Conference First team along with Bauer, Van De Wiele and Knox. Sophomore Libero Tayler Baron was named to the CUSA All-Conference Second Team.
Caribbean’

Loud, energetic music filled the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center recital hall as audience members tossed beachballs and clapped to the beat of the cultural steel pan music of the Caribbean Wednesday.
The band, comprised of six different steelpan instruments, performed eight songs. In between each song, director and Professor of Percussion Mark Berry shared with the audience the specifications of each unique instrument and the cultural value of the music.
Berry founded Steelband in 2004 after being awarded a grant through the Kentucky Council on Post-Secondary Education.
