Loud, energetic music filled the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center recital hall as audience members tossed beachballs and clapped to the beat of the cultural steel pan music of the Caribbean Wednesday.

The band, comprised of six different steelpan instruments, performed eight songs. In between each song, director and Professor of Percussion Mark Berry shared with the audience the specifications of each unique instrument and the cultural value of the music.

Berry founded Steelband in 2004 after being awarded a grant through the Kentucky Council on Post-Secondary Education.
