Finally, after what feels like a lifetime (but in reality is such a short space of time), we are kicking off our league campaign away at Jolly Steward Raiders. This game is one all our lads are buzzing for and can't wait to get involved in on Sunday at Bents Park.

We are fresh from a spell of 18 friendlies in around 4 months as a club together, which has massively helped us to get prepared and to get used to each other. We have already had some class memories as a club but now is when things get serious, we are aiming high this season and setting the target of winning the league and gaining promotion.

Temporary Third Kit Whilst we await the arrival of our new away shirt, we were given a temporary third shirt, a blue kit that will be worn against Penshaw, Romanos, Wheatsheaf and the Raiders on Sunday coming up.

New Signings Despite already having a huge squad, we have chosen to add 3 or 4 more new signings to the mix following our last flurry of friendlies.

Joining the side are John Rutherford and Ciaran Collins alongside Lewis Sutton who made his debut against Nook United. This trio are adding much needed pace and energy into the already young and exciting squad we have.

WORDS FROM THE GAFFER

It's been a long time coming but now we are finally ready to kick off our season in a higher division than first anticipated. The lads are all buzzing and it is great to see our hard work pay off and to see things coming into place. Everyone involved in the process over the last year deserves praise!

Since the return of action after a 2 week break in June, the lads have showed great determination and grit as well as talent to defeat higher league opposition such as Washington North End, Lakeside SSC and The Victory Club. We also locked horns recently with Oddies F.C and Nook United which were both enlightening tests for us.

Despite having a young squad, I've been impressed with how the lads have bounced back from some tough defeats and the reaction to the heavy defeat off Nook was a brilliant one.

The lads are going to come back strong no doubt and we can't wait to play against another team from South Tyneside in our first league game.

THE LADS HAVE SHOWED GREAT DETERMINATION, GRIT AND TALENT TO DEFEAT HIGHER LEAGUE OPPOSITION

Having been automatically moved into Division 4, we are excited to be coming up against some solid teams including Romano's, Golden Fleece, Millview and the new boys Penshaw Wanderers who are all getting good results in Pre-Season.

We are also excited to be entering the county cup in the coming weeks, our debut in that being against a very local side to us, Boldon Wheatsheaf who we will have played 5 times when it comes to that fixture in a few weeks.

It's been a long slog to get here but it's been a fun one, I've enjoyed every minute of the preparation so far and can't wait to see it all pay off on Sunday.

Jordan Brindle is one of the players who everyone has high hopes for this season. He has a lot of talent and grafts hard for the side, chipping in with goals and assists.

Having joined from Witherwack F.C last season, Brindle is someone who has been a permanent fixture in the starting eleven throughout pre-season.

Brindle brings not only talent but a good attitude, always willing others to do well Winning our Pre-Season (1) goal of the month award for his rocket against Lambton Street, one of Brindle's best attributes is being able to score rockets and also being able to pick a peach of a pass. He is the first of our feature players this season!

In our 10th game as a club, the lads wanted revenge as we took on Washington North End at Boldon School. Last time out they dominated proceedings and deservedly won 4-0. However, we ourselves had improved a lot since then and that was definitely shown in the game.

North End looked threatening, penning us back for a 10 minue spell before we eventually got into the game and looked dangerous through our wide men J.Wong and D.Crooks.

Then, a sliced goal kick from the WNE goalkeeper found Crooks who chipped the keeper from roughyl 30 yards out to make it 1-0 and set us up for a mint win early doors.

We carried on with momentum and not long later, Yegor Rumble was fouled by the WNE left back and Crooks dispatched the penalty into the top right corner for 2-0. The lads were cruising at this point but we knew that North End had the quality to get back into the game at any moment.

In the 2nd Half they slightly altered their approach and ended up getting a goal back after dominating slightly, Harris scoring for them to make it 2-1.

However, tactical masterclasses from the Brown Brothers saw us bring 3 subs on that changed the game.

Lee Orr came on and made it 3-1 to us after relentless pressing whilst Lydon and Purvis came on and shored up the defensive midfielder position. Callum Arthur also came on to help see out the game in the dying embers.

MOTM was Daniel Wadey in this one, a tremendous performance from our CB. It was a tough one to give as others could've won it, if anything everyone on the pitch could have.

ONE BIG COMMUNITY

Without all of the club's family and friends we would not have been able to get to the point we are at now. We are all suffering through the pain of Covid-19 still and we appreciate everything that you have all done to help us, whether it be sharing a post on Facebook to raise our profile...or donating money to a football card. It has all been noticed by us and we appreciate every single part of it.

I knew from the start of this project that it would take help from people to get it started as I simply didn't have the resources to just go and make the club from the ground up with unlimited money and so forth. Special notices have to go to Heather Brown for her role in all of this. Heather enabled us to raise a lot of money through very kind donations for us to raffle away.

It's not just about the people who have donated to or shared our page, it is also about the people who have helped us out along the way whether that be through advice or through coming to training and helping out when we needed numbers. The advice and experience I have gained from other managers and secretaries has been huge, no more so than witnessing how Jaymie Adams runs Washington North End. Then there is the Players and the lads who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to get us kickstarted. Kai Scott, Jordan Brindle, Gregg Lydon, Joe Holman and Yegor Rumble have all helped get us off the ground and get us going whether it be through recruiting players or just through offering help when it was needed.

INTRODUCING THE OPPOSITION

Currently in Division 4 of the Sunderland Sunday League, Jolly Steward Raiders were originally a part of the South Shields league and are based in Shields at Bents Park.

Having had a tough season last time round in the 4th Division, one which was very competitive, The Raiders have added a few new bodies and are looking strong during their tough pre-season that they have had.

Having ties with the pub in South Shields, quite a few of their lads are from that way on which is a similarity that they share with Boldon Colliery F.C. Therefore, this game could be considered a somewhat local derby game, however I feel that it will be played in good spirits no doubt.

Starting off in the SSL in 2020, Raiders had a rough first season which saw them finish 10th, NAME JOLLY RAIDERS still winning 5 games in what was a very tough league including Downhill FG and Albion FC. VENUE BENTS PARK FOUNDED 2019 In Pre-Season so far, Raiders defeated BASED IN SOUTH SHIELDS Whitburn and Houghton, both tough tests which shows that they are meaning business SECRETARY SEAN FOSTER this coming season and are not to be taken lightly by any of the teams in our division. They play their home games at Bents Park.

OUR LEAGUE'S STATS

PLAYERS TO WATCH Ahead of the beginning of the season, we felt it would be best to preview our league in a bit more depth than the other's so you can get an idea of the standard we are up against.

We are going to go through the Players in this section. First up we have F.C Romano's players Cody Sheriff, Ross Simpson and Harris Saunders. Our lads know all about these 3 and we know they are talented players.

Grangetown FC also possess a lot of quality in their ranks but none more so than striker Thomas Blakeman, previously of Velocity. He is a quick and tricky forward who will bury chances if given them. Millview Alishaan are another side with brilliant players. Taylor Oxberry is someone who did well for them last season despite only being 17 years old.

Park View have had a massive clear out this summer and have brought in some decent players. One of their remaining faces, Gary Todd, is someone we know who is a solid defender with bags of experience. Meanwhile, Penshaw Wanderers nabbed the signing of Jack Ramsden from Doxy Athletic and we know he is a lethal finisher. Josh Austin is also someone that has done well for them in pre-season so far.

Sunderland Redhill have a lot of experience in that side including Anthony Yates, Craig Gordon, Robbie Yoxall and Mark Bewick. All 4 of those players will add something to their side this season and make them harder to defeat no doubt.

Sunderland University are perhaps the most unknown entity in the league, we know nothing about any of their players bar Robbie Cummings who is a former Redhouse F.C defender which is a solid signing.

OUR LEAGUE IN FOCUS

The Golden Fleece have raided Doxy Lad for players, bringing in Brent Brooke, Daz Davie and Jay Bewick who are all brilliant signings that we know from our time against them at Witherwack F.C. Tony Mallam has also recently joined from Ryhope which is a good signing as well.

Jolly Raiders have Dean Lawrence who is a good finisher as well as Callum Forbes who is experienced at higher levels in Sunday League with Washy FC. Washington Town have a friend of ours in Liam Middlemas who is a brilliant player that can play literally anywhere and put in an 8/10 shift.

Not too much is known about players from both Whitburn and Cherry Tree, similarly with Sunderland Uni as we haven't came across these sides too much. However, we are sure they will be very competitive teams, Whitburn usually are a hard to break down team that battle hard for 90 minutes.

KITS REDESIGNED

2) Sunderland North (Sunderland 3rd Div) The 2nd team we are designing a new set of kits for is Sunderland North, a team who predominantly have worn blue and white for a long time.

This kit is a Hummel shirt, a traditional set of blue and white stripes with fully blue sleeves, white chevrons and the black sponsor and manufacturer logo. The shorts are white, socks blue and the kit is really tidy.

The 2nd shirt we had opted to do for this side is a grey shirt which is similar to the one they currently use at the moment. It's grey, two toned with black details.

The shorts and socks are also black, as is the sponsor and manufacturer logo.

BEST ELEVEN EXPLAINED

In my revised team I have chosen a few different players than I did last time. In goal is

Sean

Simpson from Washington North End. Skinner is a really good keeper, got loads of potential to get better and is a lovely lad as well. My back 3 consists of 3 powerhouses. Kyle Hourigan captains the side, slotting in as the enforcer at the back. He is a top notch leader.

Then comes

Mackie Whitfield and Andy Smith. Both likes the rolls royce of defenders in

Sunday League and both played at a high level previously. Smithy is easily one of the best players I've seen at this level. On the right hand side is

Lewis Barton from North End. Lew is a

rapid winger who has really impressed me since I ended up at North End. On the left is someone equally as fast,

Jack Curry. Jacks a mint player and a class lad, naturally had to be

in this eleven.

In the central midfield positions I have gone with

David Vincent who is a fantastic player. He

dragged the Wack to a few wins last season. He's as comfortable as they come with the ball.

Then alongside him is someone who is equally as good,

Matty Harris. I've not seen someone

run as much as him in a game, he's got mint technical ability and you won't meet a nicer lad.

Up front I have opted for a trio of

Liam Middlemas, Dazzy Green and Ben Cains. Liam

Midd is a terrific versatile player but he is arguably best up front. He's rapid and has a mint eye for goal. Daz is a completely different player but is just as good. He is exceptional at finishing and is as powerful as they come. Topping off the team is Stella United's Ben Cains.

He's terrorised a lot of people whenever my teams have played against his Stella United side.

He's an absolute baller.

Lambton Street and the lads played out their exciting rematch fixture at Downhill Hub, on a warm evening. Both teams had a sizeable squad which made it an even better fixture.

Early doors and the lads conceded first, their forward racing through and rounding Joe Holman to make it 1-0. However, we hit back strong and Lee Orr swept home for 1-1 before Yegor Rumble whipped a shot into the top corner from a tight angle. Brindle made it 3-1 with a knuckleball free-kick from far out before Crooks dinked their keeper from the penalty spot for 4-1 Not long after it was 4-2, the same forward scoring with a peach of a finish from just inside the box, in off the post. However, we continued our scoring with Jordan Brindle pinging in a rocket before his cross found Rumble who blasted home past the keeper to make it 6-2.

They scored a pen for 6-3. Lee Orr added a 7th just before Half Time and we were flying In the 2nd Half, we continued from where we left off, Rumble scoring 2 more before Brindle notched his 3rd from the pen spot. Lee Orr scored a lovely finish before Dan Crooks hit a half volley into the bottom corner.

We changed it up at this point, 13-3 being comfortable and we let lads who hadn't played as much get some game time including Lewis Taylor who made his debut for the club.

There lads didn't give in but our lads kept control of the game, everyone playing well and putting in a good account of themselves.

It could've been more but 13-3 is good enough. The lads did welll. MOTM was Brindle who put in a good shift and got 3 goals plus the assist.
