It’s Never too Early to Start Transition Planning

What We Do
Winston Transitions is designed to build academic, social-emotional and employability skills, so that each student can realize meaningful and active participation as they emerge into adulthood. Accomplished through the Continuous Feedback System, this unique model of education is based on an in-depth understanding of each student, which results in grouping by learning profile and precisely designed programming. We continually assess how a student is responding to their skill development plan and adjust our teaching approach based on that.
Winston Prep’s Focus Program is a key component of our highly dynamic model of research-based teaching methods. Focus teachers work one-to-one with each student, ensuring that their program is continuously evolving as they develop skills.
The New York City and San Francisco campuses are nestled in metropolitan centers where young adults have ample opportunities for life skills development and employment opportunities while at Transitions and after graduation.
Who We Are
Part of Winston Preparatory School’s national network of campuses, Winston Transitions is a highly individualized gap year(s) program for students ages 17 to 21+ with learning differences, including dyslexia, nonverbal learning disorders (NVLD), and executive functioning difficulties (ADHD) who are not quite ready for college or the workplace.
Core Components + Essential Elements

Winston Student Profile – Meet Dimitri
Dimitri, a 2021 Winston Transitions graduate, was not yet ready for post-secondary opportunities. He lacked skills, direction, and confidence, needed to be successful as an emerging young adult. Transitions helped Dimitri develop the skills needed to move his life forward . The program was so successful for him that he began to mentor incoming students to help them understand the benefits Transitions can offer. Throughout his time at Transitions, he expressed a deep interest in working with children with special needs and is now on the path that he desired, working as a paraprofessional.
I went from a kid who didn’t have a direction in life to leaving Transitions with not only a direction but the confidence to go after what I want. I owe it all to the teachers for never giving up on me and encouraging me to never give up on myself. I was always pushed to reach the potential I thought I never could.
