Facilitate the independence and meaningful participation of students with specific learning disorders through a Continuous Feedback System that develops skill acquisition and the Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner.
Winston Preparatory School also seeks to influence the field of education with research and implementation models that achieve these ends, in this way.
It is that simple. And that complex. At Winston Prep, we understand that everyone acquires knowledge differently, in different ways and at different speeds. It simply does not make sense to make every child learn in the exact same manner as every other child.
At Winston Prep, we challenge ourselves each day, to focus on your child and the way he or she learns. Your child will discover a place where teachers understand. A place where teachers make sense.
A place where everyone listens.
A place where everyone learns.
Using the Winston Prep proven research-based education model, we offer the best, most engaging, and meaningful online programming available for students with learning disabilities.
A Winston Online education provides intense academic skill remediation while developing students’ independence, resilience, responsibility, self-awareness, and self-advocacy, skills that serve a student beyond the classroom for their lifetime.
A place to be understood and create community. Learn from Anywhere
Our model
We view each student as a unique & individual learner who has the potential to learn.
Our model is based on an in-depth understanding of each student, which results in grouping by learning profile and precisely designed programming.
Winston Prep accomplishes this through its Continuous Feedback System .
We continually assess how a student is responding to their skill development plan and adjust our teaching approach based on that.
Before your child spends their first day at Winston Prep, we have spent weeks designing an academic program for your child’s specific needs.
We look at your child’s educational background.
We talk with you and your child.
We discuss what we think will best suit your child.
Your child’s class is also matched to your child’s skills and needs. Each subject is individually evaluated and individually tailored.
Surrounded by the right group, each child becomes part of a team.
We believe what matters most is developing a deep understanding of how your child learns and then creating the right environment to help your child reach their full potential.
I rarely leave the parent-teacher conference at Winston without tears in my eyes.
I am amazed how well these people know my child, how concerned they are about my child, and how much thought and effort these people have given.
—Peter B., ParentOur Focus program is a key component of our highly dynamic model of research-based teaching methods.
Focus teachers work one-to-one with each student daily for individualized instruction, ensuring that each student’s program is continually evolving as they develop skills.
Think of the Focus teacher as a coach, a mentor, a motivator, and a specialist who is committed to helping your child find the path to learning.

We know the importance of academic skills, but we also know from research that there are other skills that are crucial in the lives of all students.
Based on our own Lives Over Time research and research in the field, we’ve identified the Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner. These eight qualities are what really matter and are correlated with postsecondary success and independence. Research and experience demonstrate that these are not exclusively inherent qualities but skills to be developed and employed.
I like that at Winston Online, my classes are small groups which helps me think better and my favorite thing about Winston Online is I can learn better. I like being in an online school because it is not noisy and I can focus. -Student

Winston Online provides support for students wishing to transition to a post-secondary setting.
Prior to high school graduation, we work together with the family to identify the types of options that may be appropriate as the next step for the students and to facilitate any other parts of the investigation and application process.
Transitioning to College? Struggling in College? We can help.
As part of the Winston Online campus, Winston in College offers individualized virtual academic support for students around the country with learning disabilities who are transitioning to or are currently enrolled in a college program.
Focus in college is modeled after our highly effective one-to-one remediation Focus program offered on all of our campuses at Winston Preparatory School and uses the same teaching frameworks, a cornerstone of Winston Prep education.
Focus teachers work one-to-one virtually with each student
Students who enroll in Focus in College will meet virtually each week over the semester, one-to-one in live sessions with a Focus instructor to hone the skills in need of development.
Skills could include:
Organization and time management
Self-advocacy, self-reflection, problem-solving
Reading and/or listening comprehension, writing, note-taking, reading/decoding
Socializing & making/sustaining friendships
Understanding learning profile
Digital & Media literacy skills
Students work interactively with their Focus instructor to decide their development goals. Students are then provided with a full initial report of their goals and the instruction methodology based on their personal learning profile. At the conclusion of the semester, students receive a final report discussing their work over the semester, growth gains, and a plan for future steps.
Support services are available to individual students in addition to partnerships with higher education institutions around the country.
