Thanksgiving Festivities

Big shout out to Sharron Aken and Lyly Dao (Harmony) for the special Thanksgiving celebration. They had a very challenging day. One client was in isolation, EMUR’s, and there were some minor injuries. With all that happened, staff at Harmony rock! They are so awesome and were able to save the day!! The clients had a nice Thanksgiving meal, wrote, “Thanks” on the birch tree, played tons of new games, participated in family zoom celebrations and a special bingo.

Kelly, Jayne & Jenny (Glenpaul) decorated a gingerbread house. Wathc for the eblast with many more pictures of beautifully decoratead houses

Emma (staff) is doing to bingo numbers, going from her right- is Mike (client), Young (staff), Derain (client), Ezra (staff), and Jessica (client) in the orange shirt

Decorating team Teresa & Linda (16th) decorated this beautiful Christmas tree

Oakland House had a busy week of celebrating the last week of November with two birthdays and our Thanksgiving feast! Oakland Ladies usually go out to eat on their birthdays, but this year we brought the food of their choice home to celebrate. Laura desired her absolute favorite food in the world – PIZZA, and of course we had to have cake – white with white frosting for her. We then had to change decorations for the Big Thanksgiving day – in which we were all to be home for due to the pandemic. We all did our part in the kitchen, played turkey bingo, and made a “Thankful” wreath, as well as Zoom sessions with families. The next morning we switched it all up to celebrate Ann’s BIG 70th birthday. She always refuses to request anything for a meal, so we chose Olive Garden and she partook in the big variety platter so she had lots of everything. Although Ann was going to make her own cake, we had to encourage her not to, and her sister dropped off a delicious fancy deep chocolate one before she had time to make her own. I think everyone spent that weekend sleeping off all the fun and food. Lori Mason~

With Deepest Sympathy Linda Schnobrich from 11th Avenue passed away peacefully in her home December 8th. One of my favorite Linda stories is from when she first moved in. Her mother, Dee insisted Linda be able to go into her neighborhood alone to find her way around. Very shortly thereafter Linda went off and didn’t return after her allotted time. Staff frantically began the search for her with no luck and then two hours later she came walking up the block with a smile on her face and a church bulletin in her hand. She had found a church she wanted to go to a few blocks away. She was loved and will be missed by many people. Please keep her housemates (Casey, Dana, & Andrea) and all the staff (Marlene, Victor, Sheleion, Jacob, Addyson, Brianna, Emily, Masieten, Taiwo, Aishah, Giao, & Shelda) and all the others who had the privilege to work with her in your thoughts and prayers. ~Frank Merrill~
