T Levels are 2-year technical qualifications that focus on the skills and knowledge needed for industry, which are equivalent to 3 A-Levels and brings classroom and practical work together. They have been designed with employers to make sure students have the technical understanding and skills for the workplace.

T Levels have been created with employers to support the technical skills gaps within their businesses. A student completing a T Level will spend 80% of their time in the classroom and 20% within industry, developing the skills they have learnt in the classroom while gaining experience. It gives young people the skills and knowledge they need to get a head start towards their future career and support organisations like yours.
An industry placement is the opportunity for the employer to support a dedicated student in developing their technical skills and knowledge of the industry while gaining experience. The student will become one of the team and support your company as extra resource while working towards robust targets to help them gain their qualification.
The student will have a set of targets they will be working towards, these will be provided to you as the employer prior to the student starting their placement. These targets are a mixture of the technical skills they will learn and the professional behaviours linked to their specific industry or pathway.
We want you to help design a placement that will both help your business and teach young people the skills you look for in an employee. You need to provide opportunities for the student to reach their targets, offer training and support while treating them as part of the team. You must make sure the work environment is safe, the student has a line manager to support them and support the college by completing evaluations and placement monitoring visits as needed.
You’ll receive support at every stage of the process from WCUC, who will make sure that students are ready to be productive members of your workforce. They will support planning the timeline and goals of the industry placement.
No. There is no legal obligation or expectation that students will be paid as the hours they need to complete are a compulsory part of their study programme. However, the Department for Education have said that you can pay students if you wish, but it is down to the business’ discretion. Other options are to provide the student with lunch or help towards travel costs, again this is not a requirement to taking a student.
In most cases students working in high-risk areas will already have the core elements of PPE from their course. There might be specific PPE or equipment you might need to provide to the student for them to conduct their work. In lower risk areas, there might be need for software and equipment to be bought for the student.
