Pupil Premium - a day in the life

Page 1

A Day in the Life of a Pupil Premium Child at Herringthorpe Junior School I always concentrate better when I’ve had a good breakfast. I go to Breakfast Club where I can get a free, healthy breakfast. Before school, I can join in with sports with Live and Learn. Having an active start sets me up for a good day!

In lessons, I enjoy working independently but my class has a teaching assistant who can support me when I need it. I am a Reading Champion. This means that I get to read with an adult in school three times each week to support my progress and enjoyment with reading. I sometimes find friendships difficult and I can have lots of arguments at home with my brothers and sisters. I have a nurture group once per week to support me in managing this better. School has lots of different after school clubs on offer. I have done cooking club and sewing club before.

School visits and residentials are one of the best parts of HJS. I always have the chance to go on each trip.

We have specialist teachers who teach us for PE. They have links with local teams too, so can point us in the right direction if they spot talent!

Sometimes, instead of trips, we invite visitors into school. It can be scientists, authors or musicians.

I have the opportunity to learn 3 instruments at school and can even choose one to have individual or small group lessons to learn more.

What is Pupil Premium? What should I do if I think my child is eligible for Pupil Premium funding? The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers. The pupil premium is money in the school budget allocated to support children and families with lower incomes and children in families who work in the services such as the army. It is calculated on the number of children who are registered as eligible for free school meals, or have been in the last 6 years and those who have a parent in the services. Children who are ‘looked after’ also receive the pupil premium.

Contact school if you think your child may be eligible for pupil premium funding.
