REALISE Parent Booklet 2017

WELCOME Dear Parents, The REALISE program promises to be a significant experience in the life of our Year 9 girls. The program aims to enable the girls to apply the learning they have developed in their lives in a new, authentic context. The opportunity for independent learning will allow the girls to achieve an understanding of their resourcefulness and limits while working collaboratively in the natural environment. This program will offer an integrated curriculum that will develop personal, social and living skills beyond what is possible in the traditional mainstream school environment. Key elements will form the framework of the curriculum. These include, Outdoor Education, Science, Independent Living, Community Service and Engagement, and Health and Wellbeing. Activities are relevant to the learning context of the Coorong, community experiences and components of the Australian Curriculum. Living away from home will provide many challenges and opportunities for your daughter. There will be personal challenges as it may be the first time she has been separated for her family for an extended period. She will learn to live in harmony with her housemates and develop techniques to be accepting of the habits of other people. This rich learning environment will help her to better understand adult life and enable her to gain insight into her own place in this world. We look forward to seeing you and your daughter at the information evening for all Realise groups on Monday 26 June, from 6pm to 7pm in Hender Hall. Please contact me at school 83446688 or email lwalker@wilderness.com.au if you require any further information. If, for some reason you need to contact staff on camp, please call the Outdoor Education mobile on 0409 186 078. Kind Regards Lauren Walker Coordinator of Outdoor Education
