Hoverboarding To The Future By: Gabriela Garcia

Before, Hover boards were just a thought of the future, but what if I told you that we are living in that future? A California start-up says they have it figured out. The basis for this idea is that many things hover, like helicopters and hovercrafts, therefore, skateboards can too. There is a scene in Back to the Future II where Marty McFly uses a floating skateboard to get away from bullies; this scene has inspired people, such as the top engineers at Google, to make this in the present. A married couple has developed a hundred-pound hover board with magnets which levitates on a copper surface which they call the Hendo Hover board. They have created a page on Kickstarter with a goal of $250,00 where they offer from a 5 minute ride on the prototype for $100, to owning one of the first 10 production boards for $10,000. The hover board is not available on the market but when it is, it will definitely be a success. “The New York Times. Hover board? Still in the Future. Web. 9. Nov. 2015.

Alabama Boy Found After 13 Years in Ohio By: Luis Hernandez

A child who was reported missing in Alabama 13 years ago has been found safe and unharmed in Cleveland, Ohio, authorities say. Julian Hernandez was in legal custody of his mother when he disappeared on August 28, 2002, at the age of 5. The main suspect was his father, Bobby Hernandez, who took him as a part of a non-custodial parental abduction. A lead came in on November 2, 2015 because Julian was signing up for college and his social security didn’t match his name. A school counselor worked with him to determine why and that’s when they found out that he was in the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Database. Bobby Hernandez was arrested on November 3 2015 and made his first appearance in the Cuyonga county court on November 5, 2015; his bond was set at $250,000. Bobby went back to court on November 12, 2015 and was charged with abduction and one count of tampering with records.

Hacking Our Atmosphere

By: Lourdes Gonzalez The concept of hacking nature is very movie-like, but the idea is becoming a reality. In a new scientific venture to try to reduce the CO2 in the atmosphere, Stuart Licht is attempting just that Licht and his group have begun working and testing new technology that can suck carbon straight from the air. Licht and his team have made a tree-like structure that can use the CO2 it collects and turn it into carbon nanofibers and oxygen. The “tree” then releases the oxygen into the air, and keeps the carbon in its “leaves” to be picked up later. These prototypes can also make the carbon nanofibers into specific shapes/sizes, and may even run solely on solar power! The only issues are that the process is extremely expensive and that there is a problem in storing all the excess carbon. Licht believes that as people begin to realize how useful the flexible and durable carbon nanofibers are, the market for them will start increasing. If Licht and his team can get the technology into a willing market that will support the cost, we really might be able to hack our atmosphere for the better. Introducing the Robot Chef

By: Lilian Sosa Can you imagine a handy robotic assistant in the kitchen that prepares you gourmet meals whenever you desire? Moley Robotics, a London company, has designed a robot chef that is said to come out in the year of 2017. This specific robot will have the ability to cook and to clean up after you when you are finished eating. It will wash your dirty dishes, utensils, and cups. This meaning you won’t have to cook or prepare food for yourself and you won’t have to wash up afterwards. As per Moley Robotics, when the robot chef first gets released it will feature a couple of additions. It will include a dish water, refrigerator and a book with thousands of recipes. The cost of the robot chef is estimated to be around $15,000.

The whole idea of having a robot to cook and to clean after you sounds amazing. Usually when we finally get home all we want to do is rest and not have to worry about anything. With the robot chef many of our problems will vanish (maybe) and time will be something we actually more of. Owen-Hill,Alex.”Feeding the Robot Chef.’ Robohub. 9 NOV.2015.

What Affects Your Wi-Fi? By: Cheliane Fernandez Britain’s communication regulator published a report stating the 20% of the poor Wi-Fi is caused by electronic gadgets and lights at home. Even though most of the caused is due to network congestion and infrastructure, simple devices like baby monitors and house phones can also affect the Wi-Fi at home. These devices affect your Wi-Fi due to that they all need frequency, said OFFCOM spokesperson. A solution to this can be to change the location of the router. Other devices can also lead to improvement in your Wi-Fi performance. Some yips can be restarting your router, moving your router away from other electronic devices, and move it to a central part of the home.
