Presidential Election 2016 By: Andy Inchausti The 2016 Presidential Polls are on its way with wellknown Republicans, such as Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and Jeb Bush and on the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton. Out of all the candidates, Donald Trump seems to not only be leading the polls but stirring up emotions.

The pot has been shaken with Donald Trump’s campaign saying that he will deport illegal immigrants. Donald Trump said, “I will build a great wall and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me- and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.” The ideas that Trump is proposing sound very irrational to most people. Many people believe that Trump is depriving them of the American dream. After Trump’s speeches, many people felt offended by his remarks on immigrants and how he felt about them. Later on, Univision’s own Jorge Ramos attended one of Donald Trump’s speeches. While Ramos was there he tried to ask him a question on Trump’s status on immigrants, but was quickly escorted out by Trump’s men. Donald Trump has also stated, “Free trade is terrible, Free trade can be wonderful if you have smart people, but we have stupid people.” Even though many people are disagreeing with his ideas, he is leading the polls for the Republicans. Apparently, people are actually voting for him after all he has said. Trump is giving people what they want to hear and he’s not afraid to speak his mind to the public. There are other candidates with better plans for the United States of America. With so many problems our country already is facing, why add Donald Trump to the list of issues?

EOC IN P.E

By: Tatiana DeSilva This 2015-2016 school year, Physical Education has been added to the list of End of Course exams(EOC). This exam is called the “Fitnessgram Posttest” and will be taken in April by all students in 9th-12th grade that are in a Physical Education class. According to the testing coordinator, Ms. Tiffany Marcelin, “The exam is to test students on the content they have mastered in P.E.” She also stated, “Yes, as years come, every subject will have an EOC.” One of our P.E. coaches at Westland Hialeah Senior High School, Mrs. Nicole Kentis said, “I am very supportive of the idea because it puts more of a focus on P.E planning and holds students responsible for knowing the basics taught in physical education classes”. As a result,Wildcats, keep in mind that more EOC’s are coming your way every school year. Make sure you’re studying hard and focusing so that you may pass your Fitnessgram Posttest coming April 2016.

The Bagel Situation By: Kimberly Kelly

It’s 7:20 am and all you want is a delicious bagel, but before you go looking for loose change make sure you know the 411 on the bagel situation. Last year the cost of bagels was $ 1.75. Although prices went up by just a quarter, us Wildcats can’t help but wonder, why? According to Mrs. Cordova, it was the choice of the bagel distributors to increase the pricing. Regardless of this change, sales have not been affected and will continue up until Memorial Day weekend. If you’re wondering where you can find one of these mouth-watering breakfast treats, our very own club sponsors and P.E. coaches are selling them. The next time your stomach starts to growl, make sure you go ahead and silence it with a delectable bagel.

Tattoo Ink

By: Ivania Acevedo Do you ever wonder what happens to the ink going into your body when setting a tattoo? According to a Pew Re-

search poll from 2010, it said that 23% of Americans have a tattoo, but do they know what happens to the ink in their body? It’s always wondered how just one needle was able to create art onto the skin, when in fact it’s about five needles together that injects ink into the skin. The needles inject the ink through layers of skin in between the outer layer and the lowers most layer, the tissue. When the ink is in the body, the body will start to get rid of chemicals that are from the ink. White-blood cells will then start the process of removing pigments. Since cells are much smaller than pigments, cells will engulf bits of pigments separated from the whole. The cells that have then collected pigments then travel through the body to the liver, where it is then exited out of the body through the body waste. In short, before you get any tattoo’s, know what happens to the ink once it goes into your body and if it can have any negative effects on you. For the most part, they are permanent and can even cause some health issues if "Tattoo Art." The Montana Standard (Butte, Montana) 20 Nov. 2006. Web. 23 Nov.

The Truth Behind Our Water Supply By: Ariel Torres

People all over the world seem to believe that we have an abundant amount of water. This is a misconception because only three percent of the actual water on Earth is fresh water, even though our planet is 70% composed of water. Water is a very important part of our lives. It is used all over the world for nearly everything. Hygiene, dishes, laundry, food preparation, and drinking are ways that water is used for. In developing countries, 70% of industrial waste is dumped and untreated into waters, polluting the usable water supply. On November 2012, a study from The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), based at Tuffs University, showed that Floridians pay $10.5 each year to clean polluted water. Fortunately, the government can set rules and regulations on water use and water protection. "Our Water Supply." Sci Am Scientific American (1876): 49. Print.

Technological Era on Society: Blessing or a Curse? By: Luis Peña

Since the beginning of time, technology has been made to facilitate the lives of those who use it. As time advanced, humans continued to grow and evolve. With the freedom to set goals, they began building to succeed. The wheel, the diesel engine, the cell phone and computers have been results of this chase for success. It is fairly clear how these devices assist us in our everyday lives. These pieces of technology might seem to only benefit us and provide a wide variety of functions, but are we becoming too dependent on the technology? The Telegraph, an online newspaper of the United Kingdom, wrote an article on the countless hours spent online by teens. According to The Telegraph, who questioned 1,890 teen, ages 16 and over, explained that internet use has increased by 50% in the last 10 years. This seems acceptable due to the incredible expansion of our technological means. The problem seems to be the amount of time spent online. Teens spend on an average, 27 hours per week on the internet. Is this too

much time? Many parents might think so but, how does this affect students in school? How does it affect them at home? Information of the article states, “Teenagers spend 27 hours a week online” amongst other points. The first explaining how the introduction of tablets in the classroom has helped improve test scores but also seems to distract students, slowing their learning process. This causes controversy over whether technology should be allowed and limited or not allowed at all in the educational system for student use. All in all, the use of technology has helped humanity propel itself forward to what it is today. Apart from domestic use, tech and its devices are being used in education. The effectiveness of its use is questionable due to the pros and cons in the classroom.

Batbands

By: Amanda Sile The way we listen to music has changed greatly over the years. We have gone through Walkmans, toolboxes, CD players, MP3s and iPods. A company called Studio Banana Things is taking listening to music to a whole new level. They have created Batbands, wireless and hand free headphones that allow you to listen to music and leave your ear free to listen to the outside world. To use Batband, you simply wrap it around the back of your head, connect it to your mobile device through Bluetooth and you are ready to listen to your music. The way it works is through bone conduction, meaning, sound vibrations are perceived by your inner ear. In the Batband, there are three conducers, two on the sides of your head and one at the back. Some features include: touch sensors to take and end calls, turn the volume up or down, and change songs. Although the company is still looking for funds, they are expecting to start shipping in April of 2016. To pre-order a Batband you can go to kickstarter.com and search “Batband.”

Intended Movements By: Andy Garcia

Robotic Arms controlled by thought, that’s what researchers at Caltech University have managed to do. While robotic limbs have been in use for many years, all of them produced unnatural, chunky movement. Why? Previous prosthetics focused on the motor cortex and required you to think “How do I move this, up then down?”. The researchers at Caltech instead tried the PPC, which focuses on intent. By thinking “I want to grab that bottle of water” you would be able to move your arm, and do it a much more natural and human way. Perhaps in a dozen years this technology would be used by all quadriplegics and amputees allowing them to do more, compared to other less advanced prosthetics.

“It Was Gonna Work”

By: Cristella Figueroa and Amanda Sile

With energy running low and less than five minutes on the clock, there was little to no hope that our Wildcat team would score against Alonso and Tracy Mourning. The clock was ticking and time was running out when Carlton Casimir threw the ball to Watson Geffrard. Geffrard caught the ball and ran it all the way to the end zone, scoring the first six points of the season. At that moment the crowd roared with Wildcat pride and excitement. Watson Geffrard, junior, plays the wide receiver and defensive end positions for the wildcat football team. When asked how he felt scoring he said, “I felt so good! When Coach Scott called the play I felt that the play was gonna work.” Geffrard was also sure to give credit to his teammate whom he could have not scored without by saying, “Shout out to my quarterback, Carlton Casimir, who threw me the ball!”
