SEPTEMBER City of Wells ROUTE Z Tuesday 1st Wells is one of Britain's secret gems and a fabulous destination for a day out; proof that the country still has much to admire! Sheltered beneath the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills, it combines a wealth of historic interest and beautiful architecture. Wells qualifies as England's smallest, and Somerset's only city because of its amazing 12th century Cathedral. The wells are located within the grounds of the Bishop's Palace, which is still the residence of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. Also of interest are Vicars' Close, claimed to be the oldest complete medieval street in Europe, and the historic market place. Come and have a look. The town has superb shopping with three covered shopping centres offering the best shopping in Surrey. There is also a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and bars. There is plenty of history to explore around the town or why not take a river boat trip on the River Wey. We also include the option to visit the amazing Cathedral with its celebrated design. As well as providing work for disabled veterans at its HQ in Richmond, The Poppy Factory uses its unique expertise to help its clients find work with many commercial organisations all over the UK. We shall enjoy a fascinating presentation and introductory film about the Factory and its history and then visit the 'shop floor', giving you the opportunity to meet some of the people and see how poppies and wreaths are made. Saturday 19th Shepton Mallet Antiques & Collector's Fair, Somerset ROUTE A For one of a kind finds, look no further than the Shepton Mallet Antiques and Collector's Fair. As the West Country's premier antiques event, the fair is housed in four halls and over 40 shopping arcades at the Royal Bath & West Showground. It features up to 600 stands, with everything from paintings and antique furniture to vintage teddies and luxury leather luggage. The fair attracts many of London's top dealers, many of whom will have their purchases back in their shops ready to sell the following day! Price includes entrance. Saturday 19th Duxford - Battle of Britain Anniversary Air Show ROUTE ( Please note this is a change of date from previously advertised. IWM Duxford is set within the spacious grounds of the famous former First and Second World War airfield in Cambridgeshire. Your entrance ticket includes entrance to the superb museum, so you can wander under and around some of the most iconic aircraft in the world and get hands-on with the award-winning interactive exhibitions. This special show commemorates the 75th anniversary of this famous aerial battle and remembers RAF Duxford’s role as home to the first Spitfire squadrons and some of the RAF’s best-known fighter pilots, including Douglas Bader. The flying display will start at 2pm and finish at approximately 5.30pm, leaving plenty of time in the morning to explore the whole of the museum and maybe treat yourself to a pleasure flight?! Isle of Wight Tour with local guide ROUTE C Thursday 24th ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR DAYS. After joining the ferry from Lymington we will be joined by one of our local guides for a tour of the Island – we try to see as much as possible during the day. The island boasts 60 miles of spectacular coastline and beautiful countryside. We take in many of the best sights and usually include Newport, Sandown, Godshill, Shanklin, Ventnor, Freshwater and Alum Bay. There will be a main stop for lunch. A great day out. We have included an audio tour which includes the Commons and Lords Chambers, the Queen's Robing Room, the Royal Gallery and Westminster Hall. The tour takes approximately 75 minutes with visitor assistants along the route to help if required. Most of the buildings seen on the tour were built in the mid 19th Century following a devastating fire, but the route also incorporates some of the earlier buildings, such as Westminster Hall. Wednesday 7th RAF Museum – London ROUTE A Only 6 miles from central London, the Royal Air Force Museum London now offers FREE admission to all. The Museum houses a world-class collection of aircraft, aviation artefacts and memorabilia based at The Royal Air Force Museum's London site at Hendon. Take an intimate glimpse into Queen Victoria's family life as you tour the nursery and private rooms of Victoria and Albert.
