Weekly Best Bets SUNDAY NASCAR Racing 11 a.m. on FOX/11 Short track racing enters the spotlight with the running of NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. The half-mile concrete oval features high banks and is one of the loudest tracks on the circuit for spectators. Jimmie Johnson won last year’s race and also won here in 2010; his only two wins at Bristol, which also hosts a night race later in the season.

Killing Eve 5 p.m., 9 p.m. on BBCA In the turbulent aftermath of her most recent assignment, the assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) is ordered to take a sabbatical in the new episode “I’ll Deal With Him Later.” Not temperamentally inclined to follow orders in most situations, however, she decides to proceed with her next mission anyway. Meanwhile, Eve (Sandra Oh) is thrilled when she gets what sounds like a dream opportunity to join an MI6 unit that’s tracking Villanelle and her shady employers.

53rd Academy of Country Music Awards 7 p.m. on CBS/13 Many of the genre’s stars gather again for one of the top events in their field, as Reba McEntire hosts the ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Ralph Macchio reprises his guest role in the new episode “Phat Monkey,” as his businessman character is about to strike a big deal with the security firm. Kevin (Kevin James) may thwart it, though, when he interferes with Rootger’s (Bas Rutten) bid to qualify to become a guard — leaving Vanessa (Leah Remini) decidedly displeased. Kendra and Chale (Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright) seek financial backing for a brew pub.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine 7:30 p.m. on FOX/11 Conned into investing in a pyramid scheme, Jake and Charles (Andy Samberg, Joe Lo Truglio) try to get out of it and recover as much of their money as possible in the first half of the new, hour-long presentation “NutriBoom/ DFW.” Then, Jake’s half-sister (guest star Nasim Pedrad) comes to New York for a visit — which quickly becomes too long when Jake and Amy (Melissa Fumero) find they can’t tolerate the woman. Andre Braugher, Terry Crews and Stephanie Beatriz also star.

Timeless 9 p.m. on NBC/4 In a plot that would wreak havoc on conspiracy theories if it were true, the teenage John F. Kennedy (played by guest star Grant Jordan) factors into the new episode “The Kennedy Curse,” as he ends up landing in the present day with Wyatt and Rufus (Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett). He then goes AWOL in San Francisco, where assassination remains his destiny at that age unless the time travelers can retrieve him first. Abigail Spencer also stars.

It just may not be the kind of resolution either fans or the show’s character’s want; either way, there will be fallout to deal with next season. The season premiere of the companion series “Fear the Walking Dead,” immediately follows.

Fear the Walking Dead 10:10 p.m., 2:37 a.m. on AMC When this companion series to “The Walking Dead” was launched, its creators said they expected no overlap between the two shows. Evidently, however, they’ve changed their mind in the interim, because Season 4, which premieres tonight, sees the addition of a character new to this series: Morgan Jones (Lennie James), whose destiny was closely linked for a time to Deputy Rick Grimes on “The Walking Dead.” Other new series regulars include Garret Dillahunt (“Deadwood”), Jenna Elfman (“Dharma & Greg”) and Maggie Grace (“Lost”).

MONDAY Supergirl

7:30 p.m. on CBS/13 If there’s anything worse than finding out that someone has been keeping secrets from you, it’s not knowing what those secrets are. The rampage by a Toyman imitator changes things for them. Mon-El (Chris Wood) reveals major information to Kara (Melissa Benoist).

Teaching someone else how to drive often can be a challenge, but it gets an extra wrinkle in the new episode “Pedal to the Meddle.” Arthur (Judd Hirsch) volunteers to teach Franco (Jermaine Fowler) the rules of the road, but it turns out Arthur didn’t follow one himself: getting his license renewed. Tush (David Koechner) revs up for the royal time he anticipates having at a certain, much-reported wedding. Katey Sagal also stars. 9 p.m. on CBS/13 The romance of Paige and Walter (Katharine McPhee, Elyes Gabel) was just getting started when this show’s previous year ended — and now, it takes what’s termed “a shocking turn” in the Season 4 finale, “A Life in the Sand.” The story is set in Northeast Africa, where the team faces a literal minefield to try to save the locals. Toby and Happy (Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jadyn Wong) reach a decision about something major. Robert Patrick and Ari Stidham also star.
