same time, try to enhance what you’re given, especially with curls. Curly hair needs the perfect product. If you’re fighting against it, it’s because you haven’t found that product yet.” Hair color is always part of the conversation at the hair salon. Pinterest is filled with silvers, greys and lavender hair, although Kutter warns those are difficult colors to pull off. “The grey is so hard to make look nice on every skin complexion. People have tried for years to get the grey out, now they’re putting it in. It looks very good on olive or tan skin tones,” she said. “It’s not the most flattering on everyone.” Other head-turning colors they get requests for are shades of pink and deep blues, greens and purples. The bright colors don’t last long and require more frequent upkeep. A wide array of reds and burgundies are also in demand. The latest color request is rose gold and rose gold brunette. “The trends this year are weird, there is no in-between tone,” Kutter said. “It’s either you want it really cool, like a white blonde, or you want honey and warm, rose tones. That’s what we’ve been seeing.” Another popular hair color trend is shadow roots, which can be done

with natural colors or fashion hues. It adds dimension and is a pretty way to allow root grow-out, stylist Molly Rosemore said. If you want your everyday hairstyle to look like you just left the salon, having the right styling product can make all the difference. Kutter encourages clients to practice styling, too. Put the time in and you will see results. In addition to hairstyling services, Tangled offers makeup services for special events. The salon offers both traditional brush makeup application and airbrushed makeup. Stylist Aly Jepson said she’ll work with each client to determine what is needed – color correction, blemish concealment – and to decide what colors will work best. “Airbrush is very flawless looking, full coverage. They can bring in pictures of what they like and we’ll tweak it to their face shape and eye color,” she said. Waxing is also offered, although since the salon has an open layout without privacy, they are limited to what they can offer. They do face, lip, chin, underarms, and even nose hair waxing. Kutter said it hurts much less than trying to tweeze that sensitive area, and she recommends it for some of her male clients. Men do make up a sizable portion of the salon’s clientele, and services such as beard trimming and grooming are offered. “Whether it’s a long biker beard or a little scruff, we can take care of it. It makes them look finished,” Kutter said. “I’ve noticed a lot of guys will ask if we can trim up their beard. A lot are showing interest in taking care of it, asking how to make it softer or lay better.” Stylist Brittany Gumeringer said many men are more attached

to their beard hair than their head hair, spending more time on it. Some men have no problem shaving their heads, but their beards? That’s another matter entirely. Kutter can order in beard grooming products at client request and also order in Nioxin for some clients. Brazilian Blowouts are also offered, which is a 3-4 hour procedure that smooths the hair shaft. It can be done on curly or straight hair and lasts about 14 weeks. The important thing to remember if you want to change your hairstyle is to consult with your stylist and be realistic. “Those pictures they bring in are Photoshopped, and that style may have taken a full eight hours. That can be costly, too,” stylist Vicky Grohnke said. “You have to have the time to do that. Realistically, will you spend that much time on your hair every day?” Kutter said people can change their hairstyle easily by just changing their part or going to bangs. Easy modifications can make a big difference without having to invest a lot of time or money. No matter if you prefer a wash-ngo style or something that requires more time and effort, your stylist can help you find a look that’s on trend this summer.
