Lee and Sunny . . . You may have seen them about. They have been on the job already, spreading the word about our fabulous fete.

Their job has only just begun. Jinda and Lee (with a little help from joey, Sunny) are hard at it telling the good folks of Jindalee that the fete is coming up again.

Keep an eye out for them and if you see them about - say g’day.

. . . Our Fete Mascots

My Country By Dorothea Mackellar The love of field and coppice, Of green and shaded lanes. Of ordered woods and gardens Is running in your veins, Strong love of grey-blue distance Brown streams and soft dim skies I know but cannot share it, My love is otherwise. I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and f looding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror The wide brown land for me! A stark white ring-barked forest All tragic to the moon, The sapphire-misted mountains, The hot gold hush of noon. Green tangle of the brushes, Where lithe lianas coil, And orchids deck the tree-tops And ferns the warm dark soil. Core of my heart, my country! Her pitiless blue sky, When sick at heart, around us, We see the cattle die But then the grey clouds gather, And we can bless again The drumming of an army, The steady, soaking rain. Core of my heart, my country! Land of the Rainbow Gold, For f lood and fire and famine, She pays us back threefold Over the thirsty paddocks, Watch, after many days, The filmy veil of greenness That thickens as we gaze. An opal-hearted country, A wilful, lavish land All you who have not loved her, You will not understand Though earth holds many splendours, Wherever I may die, I know to what brown country My homing thoughts will f ly.

A Word from the Organisers

W

elcome to the first newsletter for the 2014 Jindalee State School fete. This year’s theme is I Love a Sunburnt Country. Inspired by Dorothea Mackellar’s classic poem My Country, it is a celebration of our unique Australian landscape and our treasured way of life. We want to take you on a journey as we keep you informed of how this bonza event is taking shape. So this year we have gone all out and turned the newsletter into a magazine. The reason for this new format is twofold. Firstly, It saves valuable time, resources and money by distributing this electronically rather than by printout. Our distribution can be wider and our publication bigger and much more pictorial. Which brings me to the second point. - big piccies are great in colour. Colour is much more interesting to peruse and the digital method of distribution allows for this beautifully. The organisation is in full swing and already we have some youbeaut sponsors on board. Thanks go out to the following organisations for their support. Platinum sponsor - Remax Innovation Jindalee Marketing partner - Who Dunnit? The Bestest T

his is the best ever event on our calendar! Our kids absolutely love this day and look forward to it each year. It is huge in our community too and is highly regarded by our generous sponsors. This event however is not possible without your help. Yes, I’m talking to you. FETE CALL FOR CONVENORS We still have quite a few convenor positions to fill. Also, some of our regular convenors are bowing out

this year, as they do not get any time on the day to spend with their own kids. Some however, are still taking on all the legwork in preparation for the stalls and to get them up and running. Unfortunately however, committing to a convenor role often means folks get stuck on that stall on the day – all day – and for the clean up. This over-commitment is forcing some to throw it all in. So this year we are trying something different.

Event Ever For some stalls the convening roles will be split into two. 1. Preparation Convenors: These convenors will prepare anything that needs to be done prior to the day. 2. On The Day Convenors: These convenors will oversee the stall on the day and help with the pack up. (Classes are also allocated to the stalls so if you are not up to being the convenor, please help the convenor out on the day for an hour or so).

DOING IT FOR OUR KIDS The JSS P&C motto is ‘doing it for our kids’. And that is exactly what the fete epitomises. How we are there for them, not only educationally but also as members of a community who come together through the good and the bad. This is a good event. It would be really bad if we had to say; “Sorry kids, we just can’t do it this year”. So come on – get on board – in whatever capacity you can.

Cakes Needs a Convenor . . . Would you love to run a stall but don’t have the time in the lead up? Well have we got the convening job for you! Cakes and Sweets stall has got two convenors that are already busy organising the stall, but they are not going to be available for a lot of the actual fete day (mainly from 11 - 5) due to other commitments. What we need is a wonderful someone (or 2 or 3 someones) who would like to convene just on the day. Set up will be done the day before and morning of by Kylie and Natalie. Please contact Kara on kjames@fresheyesqld.com if you are interested in running this stall on fete day.

They are now providing a great opportunity for some other lucky people to pick it up and have some fun!

Are you up to the jam?... If you are wondering whether you might be, ask yourself the following:

4. Will your family, friends and/ or class parents help you out of a jam by making jams and chutneys along with you?

5. Can you price product and design a stall whilst listening to ‘Jammin’ by Bob Marley and the Wailers?

6. Can you be available on Fete day 30 August to receive a great sense of achievement?

1. Can you collect and sterilise jars? 2. Can you collect donations of fruit, sugar, eggs and other similar ingredients?

3. Can you follow existing recipes or compile your own?

If you just thought about answering yes to even one of these questions then, by jam, you are over qualified and would be thinking chutney if you didn’t seize this opportunity! Don’t just think about it...JAMIT!

Recycle, With loads of creative projects happening for fete day we are on the lookout for donations. The craft group are busily making products for the craft stall and there are also some fete decoration projects on the boil.

This year we are doing things a bit differently too. We will have beautiful hand made products for sale at the fete as usual but we are also working on projects making things for the school.

Repurpose and Recreate The big project for the hand made are lagerphones. For those of you not familiar with what a lagerphone is, it is a bush band, percussion, musical instrument.

After the fete the lagerphones will be given to the music department and will become part of their existing collection of funky percussion instruments.

It is simply made from scores of bottle tops nailed to a large wooden stick. The base of the stick can be beaten on the ground and/or with a secondary shorter stick. The sound is like a rough tambourine.

We’re particularly after brightly coloured caps. Coopers, Breezers, XXXX Gold and the one with the little man on them are great but really, we’ll take anything. Please take all caps to the office and place them in the box. Cheers!

We need: Paint Fabrics Wool Beads Wadding Buttons Paper Ribbons. . . . . .Thank you

We are planning to make about five lagerphones and to do this we need bottle caps. So would you all mind having a beer or two for us please? And save the caps of course.

On another note we are always on the look out for craft materials. We need things such as paint, fabrics, wool, beads, wadding, buttons, cotton, paper and ribbons.

For our Australian themed school fete, in music, the kids are working on some Aussie bush songs that will be perfect with the accompaniment a few lagerphones.

All donations can be taken to the office or you can drop us a note at fete@jindaleess.eq.edu.au Thanks a bunch.

Sponsorship

and Donations Ask us for a copy of our sponsorship proposal document which outlines all opportunities

Over the years the Jindalee State School fete has become one of the largest annual events across the Centenary and Western Suburbs. Our 2014 fete themed, I Love A Sunburnt Country is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. Last year we had over 2500 visitors, 18 carnival rides for the kids, 25 school run stalls and 24 community stalls. This year we are widening our distribution substantially and expect more visitors than ever. At a time when businesses have to work harder than ever to succeed, we appreciate every dollar you spend promoting your business is valuable. We would like to invite you to be part of the fete through varying levels of sponsorship and donation opportunities. With continual marketing and promotion, benefits start immediately from when you sign up. So jump on board. We have ensured that your sponsorship dollar will be well spent in terms of delivering value in exposing your business to our school community. Not only can you feel satisfied that your marketing budget is going towards the benefit of children in your own local community, but you will receive tangible benefits that provide real value for you. This year we are introducing more value-adds than ever for sponsors and advertisers. We are grabbing all opportunities for promotion, leveraging off all possibilities.

The Dirt We are widening the distribution of our electronic magazine (The Dirt) beyond the school and across the community to increase awareness of the fete. Magazines will also be linked to website and to social media channels. It’s a Keeper Rather than our usual flyer, this year we will have a 4 page brochure containing our site map and program. It is intended to be much more useful than a flyer. There will also be more effective methods of distribution of the brochure for maximum exposure (min 15,000). Contact us for a (no obligation) sponsorship proposal at fete@jindaleess.eq.edu.au
