Welcome To The Autumn 2025 Edition Of Your Golfer Magazine.

After a wonderful Summer of warmth and sunshine across the UK we are now entering the colder months of the year where conditions can be a little more challenging for the avid golfer. So it may be time to dig out the waterproofs!

In other news. It was fantastic to see the European Ryder Cup team return victorious from America. However, what was an extremely memorable tournament was overshadowed by the behaviour of the USA (so called) fans.

Golf has always been and hopefully always will be a game that encompasses the way sport should be played. Etiquette, manners, strict observation of rules and respectful conduct are all regarded as sacred to all in the game of golf.

The actions of the USA support were nothing short of disgraceful. They gave a very bad example of how this spectator sport should be enjoyed and has no place in the modern game. It is with great spirit and concentration that the European team came through as well deserved winners in the end!

Within this issue we have several course reviews, some of the latest news from clubs as well as profiling some of the most recent products and services for golfers.

We hope (as always) that you enjoy the contents of this edition.

Scottie Scheffler, The Ryder Cup And The Brit Who Founded The Split Hand Pencil Putting Grip

With five players using the split hand pencil putting grip at the recent Ryder Cup tournament in New York at the end of September ( Scottie Scheffler Collin Morikawa, and Russell Henley in the US side and Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose in the European team ) it is fair to say that The Grip has now become very much part of golf and with superstars now using it cannot be long before club golfers follow the trend in a big way and split the hands on the putter and grip it as they would a pencil, striking the ball with just the master hand only.

World Number One Scottie Scheffler turned to the Grip at the end of 2024 in a bid to ease his putting problems, the only slight weakness in his game. The results have been impressive with Scottie shooting up the putting rankings and along the way capturing 6 tournaments the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, The US PGA, The Memorial, The Open championship, the BMW championship and The Procore championship.

England's Tommy Fleetwood recently gave a healthy boost to his Bank balance when he captured The Tour championship in The States and pocketed a cheque for $10 million. About the same time across on the US Seniors Champions Tour, the former Open champion Stewart Cink was walking away

with $330,000 after winning the Ally Challenge in Michigan again using The Pencil Grip. That wise old golf saying " You Drive for Show BUT Putt for Dough" has never been more to the point and more and more players are realising the point is all about the Grip, The Pencil Grip.So who is behind this putting grip that is threatening to make the famous Vardon putting grip a thing of the past and how did it get started?

Well its birth goes back to 1970 when a struggling amateur club golfer in England was finding that he could drive the ball huge distances but when it came to a four foot putt he would miss. His name was Paul Trevillion, a British Sports Artist who had drawn such classics as Roy of the Rovers and whose work was appearing in many UK National newspapers and golf magazines. He knew that he could only draw a straight line at his easil by using his right master hand only. Put two hands on the pencil and he lost control.. He wondered if the same could apply to putting and when he tried splitting the hands and striking the ball with his master hand on

the carpet of his North London home he found he just could not miss.

The British golf magazine, the highly respected weekly ,Golf Illustrated, was the first to report on Trevillion's findings and 55 years later it is clear that as scoops go this has to be right up there. The magazine ran up-dates on the story for weeks and it was the talk of golf with some golfers loving it and others not so kean and just a little bit dubious about the whole project. But Trevillion never doubted his findings and grew in confidence by the week.

Remembers Paul:" At my peak I was so confident on my putter and method that I challenged the top 50 golfers in the world to a $1,000,000 Putting Challenge and that appeared on the back cover of my putting video in the USA which was Distributed by the giant California based Booklegger company. Nobody challenged-why?

" The word had got round that I never missed and I didn't! "

Trevillion goes on: " At first there was tremendous opposition to the Grip and I was soon called The Putter Nutter.A bit like fruit taking a long time to ripen on a tree the Pencil Grip was going to take time to mature and here we are 55 years later and finally the penny has dropped among many of the elite players..

" Suddenly my phone is ringing with putter manufacturers wanting to know more and wanting to talk about a Trevillion designed Pencil Putter, UK TV Production people and Broadcasters are wanting to know more and even golf clubs have been on to me wanting to set up an Evening of Putting. The ironic thing is that America has always been more open to learning about The Grip than

in the UK for way back in 1973 the top two US golf Magazines, Golf Digest and GOLF, both gave me extensive coverage, the latter serialising my book on the grip and even setting up a Coast to Coast Tour of the US TV Stations where I had to putt live on TV night after night and was told by the magazine and Putter firm I was involved with NOT to miss and if I did I would be on the plane home. Luckily I never did miss!

"Over the years I was involved in many putting challenges and probably the most scary was having to putt off the top of Debenhams store in London's Oxford Street. If I missed, well I'll leave that to your imagination!

" For many years I thought that the Grip was dead and buried but then suddenly Sergio Garcia won The US Masters using it and the UK media sat up and started to take notice. Funnily enough the more I tried to bury the whole project the more it refused to die and now to have the World's Number One Golfer in Scottie Scheffler splitting the hands is the ultimate compliment and makes the 55 year wait all very worthwhile. I think that you can in all truth call it a lifetimes work and when I see Scheffler's putts rattling in from 15 feet as they often do now it really brings a smile to my face. "

So how does Paul, the artist who won a fearsome reputation for never missing a four foot putt, see his future .He grins and explains:" At 91, thanks to The Pencil Grip when Putting I am now drawing better than ever. My hand is as steady as a rock. The reason I stopped the putting was because of a slight backache due to picking the ball out of the hole TIME AFTER TIME AFTER TIME! "

He might have stopped Putting but his legacy will surely last for ever as quite possibly the man who finally found the secret to Putting.

St Enodoc Celebrates 49th Position in World Top 100 Ranking

The Church Course at St Enodoc Golf Club in north Cornwall has been awarded 49th position in Top 100 Golf Courses’ recently announced World Top 100 course ranking.

In what has been billed as the ‘most provocative Top 100 World Ranking yet’, Top 100 Golf Courses describe the revered Church Course as ‘a quixotic and rather hilly links course, set amidst towering sand dunes clad with tufts of wild sea grasses’. The latest ranking marks a meteoric rise for the James Braid-designed championship links that is over 100 years old. Since the last time the ranking was put together, the course has climbed an impressive 25 spots, up from 74th slot.

Top 100 Golf Courses say they have done their best to reflect the best golf courses that measure up to their ranking guidance and whilst some may agree with all or none of it, all rankings are after all subjective. St Enodoc meanwhile has made the decision to celebrate its elevated status ahead of a number of Major venues in the latest ranking and bask in the glory of such a heady position!

“St Enodoc is delighted to have been placed so highly in Top 100 Golf Courses’ World Top 100 Ranking and to have jumped up so many places since the last time the ranking was issued,” comments St Enodoc Golf Club’s General Manager, George Tunbridge. “We have an extremely dedicated greenkeeping staff that work tirelessly on the maintenance of the Church Course on a daily basis so this award is testament to their commitment to presenting the layout in the best possible condition throughout the year despite the vagaries of the English weather.

“However we strongly believe in ensuring that the whole experience of playing at St Enodoc begins from the moment that you step into the clubhouse so it is also fantastic recognition for everyone here at the club including the staff at reception and the catering team.” St Enodoc’s Church Course, established back in 1890, has also featured highly in two other Top 100 Golf Courses rankings recently; in its Britain & Ireland Top 100, it came in at number 17 whilst it was in 4th spot in its England Top 100 list. Indeed the England Top 100 list also features a number of other layouts in the south west, namely Saunton East at 23, Burnham & Berrow at 26, Saunton West at 56, Royal North Devon (England’s oldest links) at 63, Perranporth at 68 and Trevose at 69. This cluster of celebrated links makes up a glorious golf trip to this part of England. St Enodoc is also home to the Holywell Course, a shorter and less challenging layout compared to the main course so ideal for juniors, beginners and higherhandicap golfers. It is also popular with holiday makers as a full 18 takes under three hours to go around.

Autistic golfer swings for Guinness World Record to champion inclusion

Professional golf coach, Warren Clark, has taken on one of golf’s most challenging endurance feats — playing 90 holes in a single day, in a bid to create a new Guinness World Record.

Starting at 5am at Horsham Golf Park in West Sussex and finishing at 7pm, Warren played five full rounds of 18 holes back-to-back, without a playing partner, and under strict Guinness World Record conditions monitored by volunteers.

For Warren, who is autistic and faces reading and memory challenges, the attempt was about far more than golf. It was a personal stand against the limits that society can sometimes place on people with disabilities and an inspiring message to anyone who has been told they ‘can’t’.”

Commenting on his achievements, Warren said:

“My aim with this Guinness World Record attempt was not to gain attention or raise funds. It was to show that no matter your abilities or circumstances, you can push yourself, challenge your limits, and live your dreams. I wanted people, especially those who have been told they can’t, to see that barriers can be broken. I know what it’s like to feel overlooked or underestimated, but golf taught me that with focus, patience and resilience, you can keep moving forward, one shot at a time. This wasn’t just about playing 90 holes in a day - it was about proving to myself and others that if you commit to the journey, no matter how tough, you can achieve something you once thought was impossible.”

Warren’s journey to this moment has been anything but easy. Growing up, he and his mother, who was later diagnosed with autism herself, overcame domestic violence, poverty, and learning challenges. At age ten, Warren discovered golf, a passion that would become his career and his platform for change.

That platform took shape in 2016 when he founded Warren Clark Golfing Dreams, a charity dedicated to promoting inclusion, diversity, and community engagement through golf and other accessible activities. Achieving full charitable status in 2020, the

organisation now runs coaching sessions, inclusive sports programmes, and wellbeing initiatives for people of all abilities.

Warren’s record attempt is more than a sporting milestone — it’s a rallying cry for inclusion and ambition. His next challenge is turning his vision for the UK’s first Inclusive Centre into reality: a pioneering community hub featuring a sports and community hall, sensory room, training kitchen, Changing Places facility, onsite charity shop, Ofqualregulated education and employment programmes, and health and wellbeing support outside traditional clinical settings

Warren concluded:

“I want every person who hears my story to believe they are capable of more than they think. If one young person picks up a golf club, or simply decides to chase their dream, because they’ve seen what’s possible, then this journey will have been worth every step.”

Drive to attract American golfers to Devon and Cornwall, as green fees soar at Britain’s top courses

Golf Tourism England backs England’s Southwest to benefit from soaring green fees and scarcity of tee times in Scotland and Ireland

Golf Tourism England, the national membership body representing England’s golf visitor economy, is backing Southwest England to benefit from a resurgence in American golfers travelling overseas and soaring green fees at Britain’s best courses.

Andrew Cooke, chief executive of Golf Tourism England, issued a rallying call to Devon and Cornwall’s golf clubs, accommodation providers and attractions, after organising a trip for leading American travel bookers to visit the region.

“Following the pandemic, the American golf tourism market has rebounded positively and England’s Southwest is uniquely placed to benefit as green fees soar in line with unprecedented demand to play golf in the British Isles.

This is a unique moment in time. An elite Scottish club announced the first-ever green fee in excess of £1000 for the 2025 season and many Americans are missing out on tee times at courses where The Open has been played. Devon and Cornwall offers world-class links golf for less,” said Cooke.

Golf Tourism England has teamed up with Southwest golf tourism specialists, Golf South West, to target the American inbound market and capitalise on the region’s mild climate, accessible transport connections via London and Bristol and world-class links golf courses.

The trip, called the Southwest Premier Links Golf Tour, was developed to establish Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, as a credible alternative to golf holidays in Scotland and Ireland for international travellers.

Sam Bray, managing director, Golf South West, said: “As part of this month’s fam trip, we’ve showcased seven leading links courses to our American friends, including two in the World’s Top-100 and three in the UK and Ireland’s Top-100, alongside postcard-perfect coastal villages, luxury hotels and our laidback way of life.”

Andrew Cooke, chief executive of Golf Tourism international, tour operators at Perranporth

The group visited Burnham and Berrow, Royal North Devon, Saunton, Trevose, St Enodoc and Perranporth golf clubs and stayed at leading hotels in Bristol, Saunton, Trevose and Newquay during the seven-day tour.

As well as playing England’s oldest golf course, Royal North Devon – founded 1864 – the group experienced a cask ale tasting with Sharp’s Brewing Co. and spent time in the luxury spa at The Headland Hotel, Newquay.

David Reid, managing partner at Fairways to Heaven Golf Travel in Connecticut, said: “I’m very excited about Devon and Cornwall as a destination. We’ve experienced unbelievable accommodations and from a golf perspective, there are some of the best links courses in the world here in the Southwest. The scenery and coastline are truly special and planning trips here would represent great value for money for my clients.”

Golf travel expert David Jones (a.k.a UK Golf Guy) has tracked green fee prices at the UK’s Top-100 courses for the past decade and says green fee prices are now rising at four times the rate of inflation.

Prices rose 10.7% this year and the average green fee to play a Top-25 UK course is £352, up from £318 last year, and the average cost to play a UK Top-100 course is £237.

A new study by Sporting Insights for the IGTOA (Ireland Golf Tour Operator Association) has revealed that American golf tourism is worth €93.9 million annually to the Irish economy, a figure Cooke says highlights the value of low-volume, high-yield golf tourism, such as the American market.

New Colours And Elevated Designs Feflect

Oscar Jacobson’s Swedish Heritage This Autumn

Combining Swedish tailoring with a modern golf aesthetic, Oscar Jacobson offers golfers the perfect Autumn Winter collection for style performance on the course. With performance fabrics, new colourways and fashion inspired designs the OJ look is more premium than ever before.

At the heart of the new line is the Pineneedle colourway, a deep green that brings fashion inspiration to the fairway. Key styles to benefit from this new Autumnal hue are the Bullock and Bullock Tour, the fashion inspired Westland and Westland sleeveless, the Johnstone and Johnstone Tour crew neck pullovers and the Romsey lined knit.

Further upgrades for the season are the Kennedy Hoody, that now comes in Black with Pewter Marl tipping detail to the inner hood and the edge of the cuff, and the Oakways II that builds on the success of the original hoody. Its contemporary look is further enhanced with the use of a new linear logo which travels down the outside back of the garment. Available in Pineneedle, Pewter and Black, this is the perfect Autumn / Winter garment for on and off course wear.

A brand new addition to the OJ range is the Alex Waterproof Jacket. The 4-way stretch fabric used in the manufacture of this garment offers the most advanced performance to date in terms of freedom of movement. The jacket is packed with details that elevate the look and

performance of the garment. The Jacket has a 2-way zip that enables the wearer to adjust the jacket at any time, and most importantly can be used to ensure that the front of the garment lies flatter when addressing the ball.

Contrast colour details on the inner collar, Velcro tabs, inner zip guard and under the zippers themselves complete the look. As well as an impactful all-over debossed side panel there are multiple subtle, premium logo placements on the Alex including a debossed logo on the Velcro adjuster and a linear logo on the back yolk. Available in Black / Pineneedle and Pewter / Black this is sure to become a Pro Shop staple.

The Arlington is a fully waterproof ¼ zip short sleeve Jacket. The fabric is extremely comfortable and offers great movement. As with the Alex, this new style carries a debossed logo this time to the right front chest panel and has the OJ logo on the yolk. The use of back shoulder blade seams gives the garment a beautiful drape and contemporary look.

Also new for Autumn Winter is the Baynes Padded Gilet and Beaumont Padded Jacket. The lightweight padding is used to the front of both garments and across the yolk for comfort and warmth. The quilting pattern itself creates a contemporary finish with a combination of chevrons and straight line. Branding comes in the form of the debossed logo application to the side panels, an OJ repeat print across the inner lining, the

linear logo to the right shoulder and the OJ logo to the reverse. Both styles are available in Black, Pineneedle and Navy.

In Accessories we have new colours in the Maidstone and Gillies bobble hats (Pineneedle), while the new Haven bobble hat brings a chunky 2-tone knit in the new season colours with a fleece inner lining which delivers warmth and next to skin comfort.

Brancepeth Castle Golf Club is celebrating today after it’s men’s and women’s teams both won their respective leagues.

The men’s 1st team clinched the title on Tuesday night away at Boldon GC. Last week their women's A team beat Eaglescliffe GC to clinch the Durham County Anderson Shield for the 15th consecutive year.

The clubs 2025 proud captains are David Morgan and Jill Dickinson.

Brancepeth Castle Golf Club - originally part of the Brancepeth Castle deer park, stables and coach house - was developed in 1924 by renowned architect Harry Colt into the parkland golf course which can still be seen today.

One of the world’s leading golf architects, Colt designed more than 300 courses - including Wentworth, Muirfield, Sunningdale and Woodall Spa.

Brancepeth Castle Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the best courses in the North East.

The signature ninth hole is played over the ancient former gardens of Brancepeth Castle. Peter Alliss, 'the voice of golf', once described this hole as one of the hardest (and best) par threes in the world.

Ex-Ryder Cup Captain Bernard Gallacher also hit a hole-in-one at the 10th during the club's 75th anniversary celebrations.

Golf Tourism England: “It’s

time North East England stepped out of Scotland’s shadow.”

Golf Tourism England (GTE), the national membership body representing England’s golf visitor economy, is backing North East England to claim a greater share of the UK’s inbound golf tourism market, as overseas demand drives green fee prices up in Ireland and Scotland.

Speaking at the sixth annual Golf Tourism England Convention, held at Matfen Hall Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate in Northumberland earlier this month, chief executive Andrew Cooke championed the region’s golf venues and accommodation providers to international and domestic golf tour operators.

“The golf tourism industry is looking for credible and affordable alternatives for tourists wishing to play the best golf courses in Great Britain and Ireland. Domestic golfers are now being priced out by rising green fee prices fuelled by demand from overseas, principally from the U.S. market, and it’s time that England stepped forward to assert itself and compete more aggressively with Scotland, Ireland and Wales.”

“In North East England, you can play three GB & I Top-100 links courses, stay in five-star golf resorts and sporting estates, experience the vibrant cities of Newcastle and Durham and explore two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It’s time that North East England stepped out of Scotland’s shadow,” said Cooke.

The UK golf tourism market is poised for sustained growth, with research showing that by 2035 inbound golf tourism will be worth more than £5.2 billion to the economy.*

The convention was attended by travel bookers specialising in UK and International markets, including representatives from Denmark, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands and the USA, as well as regional hospitality businesses, golf venues and visitor attractions.

· £50m investment into the hotel, golf course and clubhouse at five-star Matfen Hall Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate, Northumberland

· Investment in a new golf tourism strategy and plan by Tees Valley Combined Authority, to increase future domestic and international golf tourism to Hartlepool, Cleveland, Redcar, Stockton and Darlington

· Multi-million-pound golf clubhouse and driving range renovations at Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa, County Durham, including two-storey TopTracer driving range, sports bar, simulator suites and bowling lanes

· Revealed: Northumberland’s first home-grown single malt whisky, from Ad Gefrin distillery and Anglo-Saxon heritage museum – reviving a 200-year-old dormant Whisky tradition - and now maturing in cask

A group of selected tour operators spent several days in Northumberland before the convention, playing rounds at The Northumberland Golf Club, Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, Goswick Links, visiting Alnwick Castle and Garden and staying at the newly opened Bailiffgate Hotel, Alnwick.

Andrew Hastie, owner and managing director of Authentic Golf, a golf travel agency serving the Dutch market, said: “My impressions of Northumberland are fantastic. It’s a beautiful area with some wonderfully interesting golf courses.”

Stuart Imeson, co-owner and course manager at Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, said: “The whole Northumberland coastline, from Goswick to Bamburgh, down to Alnmouth and Foxton Hall, there are some great golf tours to put together and it was a pleasure to welcome a group from the Golf Tourism England convention to experience our 128-year-old links course.”

The GTE convention was sponsored by Discover South Carolina (Headline sponsor), Destination North East England (Host sponsor), Visit Tees Valley (co-host sponsor), and Visit Morocco (guest destination sponsor).

Alex MacKenzie, Travel Trade Manager at Destination North East England, said: “With demand for golf trips both domestically and internationally at an all-time high, the North East is well placed to cater for this demand. Our location, on the doorstep of Scotland, the Home of Golf, means groups looking for excellent facilities whilst still being affordable will find what they need here.

“It has been fantastic working with Golf Tourism England to bring their convention to Matfen Hall, one of our biggest golfing assets, and the connections we have made at the event will allow us to grow in this market.” For more about Golf Tourism England, visit:

Your Golfer Magazine Sherwood Forest Review 2025!

Located in the heart of Mansfield, Sherwood Forest Golf Club welcomes visitors with convenient opening hours throughout the entire week. The club operates from 08:30 to 17:00, offering flexibility for early and late tee times alike.

Facilities

Sherwood Forest Golf Club boasts an extensive range of facilities designed to accommodate golfers of all abilities. The club features a dedicated driving range and a short-play area for those looking to practise their technique. Well-equipped changing rooms are available for members and guests, ensuring comfort and convenience. The clubhouse, complete with a professional shop, provides a friendly and inviting space. In addition, the modern bar and restaurant offer a relaxed and sociable atmosphere, making every visit enjoyable.

The Course

Nestled within the iconic Sherwood Forest, known for its remarkable natural beauty, the golf course comprises 18 meticulously maintained holes. The layout skillfully integrates numerous bunkers and areas of mature heather, presenting a thoughtful balance between challenge and playability. The championship course stretches to 6,835 yards, delivering a rewarding experience for seasoned golfers, while remaining approachable for beginners and those with intermediate skills.

Hole 1 – Par 4

The opening hole begins with a straightforward tee shot onto a gently sloping, generously sized fairway. This leaves players with a comfortable chip towards the green. Heather flanks both the left and right sides, ready to catch any errant drives. The hole concludes with a large green, providing a welcoming target for the approach.

Hole 2 – Par 4

The second hole presents a genuine test right from the tee, as the fairway is heavily lined with bunkers. A well-placed drive towards the left side of the fairway can eliminate more than half of these hazards, rewarding precise shot placement. However, caution is required when approaching the green, as substantial bunkers are positioned on both sides, demanding accuracy with the approach shot to avoid trouble and secure a good score.

Hole 3 – Par 4

The third hole presents a unique challenge with a blind tee shot on a straight fairway. Golfers must be vigilant, as hidden bunkers are strategically positioned throughout the dip in the fairway, ready to catch any wayward drives. Executing a straight tee shot is crucial, as it will provide clear visibility to the green on the subsequent approach, allowing for a more confident and accurate play.

Hole 4 – Par 3

For the fourth hole, players should align their tee shot directly at the stag statue positioned outside the clubhouse. This landmark serves as an effective visual guide, ensuring a straight line from the tee and aiding in accurate shot placement towards the green.

Hole 5 – Par 5

Situated in close proximity to the clubhouse restaurant, the fifth hole offers golfers the unique experience of playing in view of an audience, especially when launching their opening drive. The green, visible from the tee, beckons in the distance but is well defended by a series of undulations and slopes. These natural features significantly influence the path of the ball during the first two shots, demanding both power and precision from players as they navigate towards the putting surface. Accurate shot placement is essential to counter the challenging terrain and to reach the green in regulation.

Hole 6 – Par 4

On the sixth hole, accuracy from the tee is of paramount importance. The ideal shot is directed straight down the centre of the fairway. Straying too far to the left brings both the trees and a bunker that guards the green into play, introducing significant risk for the approach. Conversely, aiming too far right will bring the fairway bunkers into contention, potentially compromising the next shot. Careful alignment and precise execution are key to navigating this challenging par 4 successfully.

Hole 7 – Par 3

This short par 3 challenges golfers of all abilities with its narrow green, which is within reach for most players off the tee. However, accuracy is paramount, as a multitude of bunkers surround and protect the green, waiting to catch any errant shots. Success on this hole hinges on precise shot placement, making club selection and commitment especially important. Approach with care and focus to avoid the hazards and secure a good score.

Hole 8 – Par 5

Golfers tackling the eighth hole should focus their drive down the left side of the fairway. This strategic alignment maximises the chances of avoiding the right-hand fairway bunker, which poses a significant hazard for those straying off line. Additionally, players must contend with the natural slope of the fairway, as it tends to guide the ball forward, adding further complexity to shot placement. Careful consideration of both the bunker and the fairway's contours is essential for successfully navigating this challenging par 5.

Hole 9 – Par 4

Navigating the ninth hole requires golfers to produce two solid shots in order to reach the green. The initial challenge comes in the form of extensive heather, which must be cleared before players can access the fairway. As you advance towards the green, a concealed dip in the fairway reveals itself, presenting an unexpected obstacle. Additionally, numerous slopes throughout the fairway can influence the ball's direction, potentially pulling it off course. Strategic shot placement and awareness of these natural features are essential for a successful approach to the green on this demanding par 4.

The tenth hole presents golfers with a challenging par 3 featuring a small green that slopes noticeably, making precise shot placement critical. As you step up to the tee, the target is clear but unforgiving; any shot that is not perfectly executed risks being caught by one of the many bunkers strategically positioned around the green. These hazards demand careful club selection and unwavering accuracy, as they are ready to punish any misjudged attempt. Approach this hole with focus and skill to avoid the traps and give yourself a chance at a good score.

Sherwood Forest Golf Club is situated on Eakring Road in Mansfield, with the postcode NG18 3EW. For those wishing to make enquiries or bookings, the club can be contacted on 01623 626689.

Hole 10 – Par 3

Hole 11 – Par 4

The eleventh hole offers golfers a unique opportunity thanks to its downward elevation from the tee. This natural drop can add valuable distance to your drive, allowing you to gain extra yards with a well-struck tee shot. However, care must be taken to avoid the fairway bunkers positioned on the right, which pose a significant hazard and can disrupt your progress if not navigated carefully. After a successful drive, players will be greeted by a generously sized green, providing a welcoming target for the approach shot. Strategic shot placement and an awareness of the bunkers are key to securing a promising position on this par 4.

Hole 12 – Par 4

An uphill drive on this blind hole is best approached from the right side of the fairway. Positioning too close to the left may result in difficulty due to the proximity of the bunker.

Hole 13 – Par 4

A long drive sets up your approach to the green. Aim for the fairway and steer clear of the bunkers to reach the green safely.

Hole 14 – Par 4

Recognised as the most demanding hole on the course, the fourteenth presents a true test of skill and determination. Success here begins with a powerful and accurate tee shot, as only a wellstruck drive will put players in a position to reach the green in regulation. The challenge intensifies on the approach, which plays uphill and requires both distance and precision, making club selection critical. Navigating this formidable hole demands focus and strategic play from start to finish.

Hole 15 – Par 3

Reach the green in regulation by carrying over the bunker; club selection is crucial.

Hole 16 – Par 5

This challenging par 5 demands a powerful and accurate tee shot in order to pierce through the fairway bunkers that guard the opening stretch. A long, straight drive will reward the golfer with an advantageous position for the remainder of the hole, making the subsequent shots less daunting. As players approach the green, they must remain vigilant, as numerous bunkers are strategically placed to protect the putting surface. Careful shot selection and thoughtful navigation are essential to avoid these hazards and secure a successful approach to the green.

Hole 17 – Par 4

Positioning is absolutely crucial on this hole, which features a subtle dog-leg from left to right. The fairway bunker is a significant hazard, coming into play for many tee shots and offering very little room for error on either side. Golfers must carefully consider both their line and distance, as the fairway offers minimal space to allow the ball to roll through safely. Precision and thoughtful shot placement are essential to navigate this challenging hole successfully.

Hole 18 – Par 4

This finishing hole offers a picturesque view of the clubhouse straight from the 18th tee, providing a memorable backdrop as you prepare for your final drive. The fairway is surrounded by numerous slopes, which can easily divert the direction of your ball, requiring careful planning and execution from the tee. As you approach the green, you’ll find a generous, wide putting surface to aim for—offering a sense of relief after successfully navigating the fairway’s challenges. The atmosphere is heightened by the presence of an audience from the restaurant, adding an extra layer of excitement to your concluding shots.

Ganton remains an enigma, where golfers experience tradition, quality, and a great test of their ability; The par 71 course measures over 7000yrd from the Championship tees, but most will prefer to play from the range of shorter teeing options available.

The superbly appointed clubhouse is a shrine to golfing years gone by. The Thirsk, Vardon and Rudgard rooms all boasts views across the course and provide access to a wonderful outdoor terrace – perfect for al fresco eating and drinking.
