The Fitting Room

Amy Polendakis

Amy Polendakis is a fashion designer from Melbourne, Australia whose practice embrases minimalism and refined detail. Guided by an understanding of fabric, colour and finishes, her work balances precision with softness, creating garments that are both grounded and emotive. Amys designs are informed by personal experiance and the quiet narratives found in her everyday life whilst developing a considered design practice rooted in craftsmanship, emotional storytelling and contemporary elegance.

Concept Statement

The Fitting Room reflects the quiet process of self-alignment. A space where identities are tried on, adjusted, and ultimately chosen. It explores the tension between discipline and desire, revealing how transformation often unfolds through lived experience. Structured forms gradually give way to fluid silhouettes, mirroring the release of what no longer fits. The Fitting Room is both a metaphor and a state of becoming, where the old self meets the new, offering designs that balance conceptual depth with wearable elegance, bridging personal narrative with a contemporary audience.

A fitted blazer, tightly pleated and drawn across the torso, contains the body in deliberate tension. Paired with a sheer bias-cut maxi skirt and long, fluid train, the look introduces the first softening in the collection, a quiet shift from control toward release.

An elegant full-length wool-gauze dress drapes gracefully over the body. Subtle pleats create billowing softness, while the slight sheer quality adds lightness and an ethereal presence. This look eases the collection toward fluidity without losing composure.

A tailored coat and straight trousers maintain a composed silhouette while introducing gentle ease. Beneath, a wool cowl-neck halter revisits Look Two in a new iteration, balancing precision with quiet fluidity and continuing the collection’s progression with measured refinement.

Cut in the same merino wool as Look One and aligned with the direction of Look Three, this look refines the cowl-neck halter into a warmer, more tactile expression. Paired with tailored trousers, it reinforces the collection’s material and formal continuity while offering a grounded, understated silhouette.

5. A charcoal silk georgette dress with thin straps and a flowing train embodies full release. Lightweight and fluid, the fabric moves freely, contrasting earlier structured silhouettes, while the dark hue adds depth and sophistication. Look Five captures feminine ease and the culmination of the collection’s journey from structure to movement.
