Memorial event helps trapshooting teams Over 160 people participated in the Thomas Gamboni Memorial Shoot at the Bald Eagle Sportsmen's Association range in Hugo to raise money for local high school trapshooting teams. The event April 30 raised about $4000, according to Keith Steadland, head coach for the White Bear Lake Area High School team. This was the fifth annual shoot in memory of Gamboni, a White Bear Lake electrician who died accidentally while wiring a Centerville bank sign in 2011. A friend of Gamboni, Gary Myskevitz, who manages the Wolf Den gun shop in Hugo, said
Tom was interested in promoting shooting sports for youth and donated his shotguns to the White Bear team. Steadland, who teaches physical science at North Campus, said the sport has grown tremendously since it started in 2009. "There are now over 10,000 high school athletes participating in trapshooting this spring," he pointed out. "The state tournament in Alexandria in June is scheduled for eight days and is billed as the largest shooting tournament in the world." Debra Neutkens
