PITTSBURGH summers are highlighted by high humidity, puncuated with sudden rainfalls, and graced with greenery that shines when the sporadic sunshine dapples the leaves.
One of the most special places to spend quiet moments is atop the Highland Park Reservoir in Highland Park.
The span of water provides a peaceful sanctuary from the city’s resounding summertime sounds.
On one of my favorite walks, one a beautiful Pittsburgh day, this heart suddenly appeared. It’s simplicity made for the perfect photograph of this special spot.

Known for being “tall, dark, and a grandson,” Kendrick describes himself as a Gen X soul trapped in a millennial body—a walking contradiction with a microphone. Whether in the classroom or under the spotlight, he continues to use comedy as a tool for connection, healing, and good old-fashioned fun.

“I
am honored every time I get to create for someone’s life events.”
“What inspired you to start BLOOMS, and how has your vision evolved since launching?”
In May, 2020 I came across a flower truck on IG and was obsessed and immediately thought Pittsburgh needed one! I did a quick Google search to see if one existed and found that it did but also that I had never come across it while out and about in Pittsburgh. I knew there was room for another. From that day, I couldn’t shake the idea of starting my own business, which was always something I had wanted to do but never knew how it would actually come to fruition. I’d be up at night thinking about how I’d design my truck, what I’d sell, my logo, etc. The idea quickly turned into reality one small piece at a time, and I launched my first pop-up in November, 2020. BLOOMS has evolved from a popup flower boutique out of the trunk of my car, to a mobile flower boutique (cheers to Birdie!), to designing exclusively for events working out of my home studio, to today where I have a brick and mortar in Cranberry and where I do all of my creating and offer retail hours throughout the week.
Blooms is a floral design studio located in Cranberry and part of the 1659 collective alongside Café Conmigo and Straight Line Boutique. Blooms offers both Fresh and Forever Blooms, floral retail, and workshops at its Cranberry location. Blooms creates high-end floral designs for events, bespoke creations, and weddings
“How does BLOOMS aim to make people feel — whether they’re walking into the shop or receiving a delivery?”
I believe flowers are meant to bring us joy, even during our darkest times. Flowers are a luxury that can brighten anyone’s spirit. Designing with exceptional and unique stems to create something aesthetically pleasing and elevated is an art. They are a gift to give or adore yourself. I hope that my BLOOMS leave a lasting impression on you and find a permanent home in your memories. There are so many extraordinary floral designers here in Pittsburgh, and I am honored every time I am chosen to create for someone’s life events.
“What are your top five favorite things to do in Pittsburgh?”
Dinner and drinks at a hot spot Getting outside for an early morning city run or hitting the Montour Trail
A morning spent in The Strip
Small business shopping around town
Meeting and connecting with new people and clients at 1659!
Taylor Ollason Photography
While I am not a flower farmer, I am a floral designer who strives to be as sustainable as possible within my craft. Leaving less of an imprint on this earth while creating is critically important to me. While you won’t find floral foam in my workspace, you will find myself and my team striving to learn new methods to staying green. Utilizing biodegradable papers and tissues, earth’s materials, and sourcing locally within PGH, PA, and the USA as often as possible helps me to stay connected to lessening our carbon footprint.
won us over with this quote given to Kyle Brandt, host of “Good Morning Football” on the NFL Network during an interview at Steelers training camp.
"When you meet the right one, and you’re with the right one, your whole world changes in a second. And to have that person that unconditionally loves you behind the scenes, there’s no better feeling in the world, and I’ve got the most incredible wife," Rodgers said, via NFL.com. "I just really love her, and I’m so thankful to have her by my side at the end. When you have that stability and that rock behind you at the house, you feel like you can do anything."

What advice would you give to someone thinking about launching a small business in this city?
Pittsburgh is an amazing place for a small business! As a city we have a huge sense of community. Follow your dreams and give the people what they want!
What has been the most rewarding part of building Domestic Witch here in Pittsburgh?
The most rewarding part for me is being able to provide a safe space for everyone. A space to visit and shop and feel connected no matter what you are going through. I wanted to provide a little world where once you walk in all of your worries disappear. That sounds a bit ridiculous considering the way the world is today, but um come in for a serotonin boost?

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Melody Bryant is the creative force behind In the Moment with Mel Content Creations, a brand dedicated to storytelling through content and connection. With a background in luxury events and brand collaborations, Melody began her career at Walt Disney World, where she supported highprofile productions including “Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings”.
She later brough her design eye to Nemacolin Resort, where her floral work was featured in episodes of ABC's “The Bachelor”.
How does your Pittsburgh upbringing influence the way you approach events and storytelling today?
Growing up in Pittsburgh taught me the value of hard work, heart, and community. This city celebrates authenticity, and that’s what I strive to bring to every event. Real stories, meaningful moments, and a deep care for every detail. I love highlighting local talent and making each event feel like a true reflection of the people at the heart of it.

In a world full of trends, how do you ensure your content and events still feel personal, timeless, and true to the client or brand? My intentions are to focus on highlighting each client’s story and vision rather than solely following the trends. By capturing the unique details that matter most to the client, I am able to create content that feels genuine and timeless. This way, every experience feels authentic and stays meaningful well beyond the day itself.

GRIP & CO. stands for Girl Raised In Pittsburgh—how does the spirit of Pittsburgh show up in your work and brand philosophy?
I am who I am because of the city that raised me. Pittsburgh shaped my perspective, my style, and my sense of community. Through travel and inspiration gathered from fashion capitals, I’ve curated a collection that reflects what I know our Pittsburgh girl truly loves. This city has always had a heart for supporting local and shopping small, and at GRIP & CO., we strive to bring the styles she’s seeing online or through her favorite influencers directly home — into a space she can experience in real life, in real time.

A landmark account of Paul’s triumphant musical reinvention in the 1970s and the subsequent rise of one of the decade’s most iconic bands.
“I’m so very happy to be transported back to the time that was Wings and relive some of our madcap adventures through this book. Starting from scratch after The Beatles felt crazy at times. There were some very difficult moments and I often questioned my decision. But as we got better I thought, ‘OK this is really good.’ We proved Wings could be a really good band. To play to huge audiences in the same way The Beatles had and have an impact in a different way. It was a huge buzz.”—Paul McCartney
As the Sixties came to a close, Paul was faced with the daunting prospect of being a solo artist for the first time. Wings’ ascension to the top of the charts with classic albums including Band on the Run, Venus and Mars and At the Speed of Sound, along with the band’s stadium-filling live shows would prove to critics and fans that not all great acts are impossible to follow. Wings:The Story of a Band on the Run is a rousing, stereophonic celebration of the songs, collaborations and performances that would shape the soundtrack of the late 20th century.
Drawn from over 500,000 words, based on dozens of hours of interviews with Paul and numerous key players in the band’s orbit, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run weaves together the improbable trajectory of Paul McCartney and his newly formed band (featuring cofounding members Linda McCartney and Denny Laine) across the technicolor 1970s until their dissolution in 1981.
Edited by the prize-winning historian Ted Widmer and organized around nine Wings albums, the oral history sheds new light on the immediate aftermath of the seismic global impact of The Beatles’ break-up, as the musical landscape and tastes began to splinter and diverge along with societal views. The narrative follows the various incarnations of the band as they survive a mugging in Nigeria, appear unannounced at UK university halls, tour in a sheared-off school bus with their children, while producing some of the most indelible and acclaimed music of the decade, including: “Mull of Kintyre,” “Live and Let Die,” “Band on the Run,” “My Love,” “Jet,” “With a Little Luck,” “Silly Love Songs,” “Let ‘Em In,” “Junior’s Farm” and more.
With more than 100 black-and-white and color photographs, many never seen before, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run is part of a larger reexamination and appreciation of the group and their catalog, including the 2024 theatrical release of the rare Wings live-in-studio performance film One Hand Clapping and its accompanying album; 50th anniversary editions of the Wings albums Band on the Run (released February 2024) and Venus and Mars (releasing March 2025); and a forthcoming documentary on Paul McCartney’s solo and Wings-related musical work of the 1970s from Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Morgan Neville. "Wings was about love, family, friendship and artistic growth, often in the face of tremendous adversity. It was a joy to relive the madcap adventures of a special band, by listening to their stories, and compiling this oral history."—Ted Widmer Pre-order your copy of Wings:The Story of a Band on the Run here.
