It is almost the Curling Season in Atlin!

Are you interested in curling this winter? Prior to putting the curling ice in, we are needing the commitment of 6 teams for the curling league.
Please let us know by November 1, 2025 if you have a team or are looking for a team to curl on.
If there is enough interest, volunteers will be needed over the next 6 to 8 weeks to help install the curling ice and to help throughout the season with maintenance and events. If you are unable to curl but still want to be involved with the club, there will be lots of opportunities to help out.
We have already secured the GOLD for the Gold Nugget Bonspiel which was donated by Ruby Gold AKA Rino.
Please contact Jody Smallwood or Scott Cole for any questions.

Thank you

A good running day
October 9 the 3rd Atlin School Cross Country Run was a fact. Early in the morning, still crispy cold, school teachers and volunteers came to South Pine Drive for setting up tables, chairs, concession, start and finish line, portable fire pit and more. RCMP and Medics were stand-by. Then the children arrived, both from the Atlin School and St. Francis School Whitehorse. Instructions were given to all. Some volunteers and teachers were assigned a spot along the trails to check if all runners on that specific track would pass. Others had a role more close to the start/finish line. All runners received a race number so their individual running time could be monitored.
In the boys' 2-kilometre race, Jacob won with a very fast time of 16:01 minutes, followed by Jaxon in second place with a time of 17:16 minutes. Kayden finished third in 18:13 minutes, and Luke, accompanied by his mother, finished in 22:25 minutes.
In the girls' race, Isla won the race in a fantastic time of 15:55 minutes, making her the fastest of all boys and girls together. Faith finished second, crossing the finish line just a few seconds later in 15:58 minutes, also finishing second place overall. Katherine finished third in 17:29 minutes, and Adeline finished fourth in 24:55 minutes.
In the 3-kilometre race, the boys started first, followed by the girls about 5 minutes later. It was an exciting race, with the girls determined to catch up with the boys. Runners showed great sportsmanship by stepping aside when a faster athlete tried to pass.
In the boys' race, Thomas won in 24:55 minutes and finished third overall. Nicholas followed in his wake with a time of 25:14 minutes. Jayden, seemingly fresh and full of energy, finished third in 25:31 minutes. Bogomil, with a smile on his face, managed to squeeze out a final sprint and crossed the finish line in 31:34 minutes, a fantastic performance from him Lawrence finished with a time of 34:08 minutes, and Eiger crossed the finish line without a trace of fatigue in 38:39 minutes.
In the girls' race, Shelby convincingly won the 3-kilometre race, finishing first and first overall with a time of 20:22 minutes. She overtook all the boys who had started 5 minutes earlier. Darina crossed the finish line with a high speed and finished second in 23:53 minutes, herewith placing herself second overall in the 3-kilometre race. Miles finished third in a great time of 25:03 minutes. Hannah finished fourth in 34:55 minutes, and Sophie fifth in 37:02 minutes.
The 5K race was dominated by the students of St. Francis School in Whitehorse, and included Abi and Max from Atlin.
Chou won the boys' race with a time of 29:45 minutes. He finished second in the combined group of boys and girls. Chou was followed by Mason, who finished second in 30:31 minutes, making him third in this overall group. Arie finished fourth in 36:20 minutes, and Max fifth in 38:39 minutes.
Abi won the girls' race with a time of 28:04 minutes, also winning the overall boys' and girls' 5K. Cassie finished second in 33:47 minutes, and Caley took third place in 36:13 minutes. It was commendable that such a well-mannered and athletic team from Whitehorse participated in the Atlin Cross Country Run. We hope to see them again at future races.
The 2025 Atlin Cross Country Run was a prime example of fine sportsmanship. During the three races, covering 2, 3, and 5 kilometres, several runners demonstrated excellent sportsmanship by politely giving way to those who wanted to pass. Tribute to Eiger and Jayden, the gentlemen on the trail. A good sport also cheers for all who take the effort of participating. And cheering was done loudly, not just by the adults but also by all the children that were on location.
We are proud of all the runners. For some it was more strenuous than for others. And, boy, are we proud of those!
Thank you to all the children, teachers, volunteers and viewers for making the time for this event. A special thanks to all that came from Whitehorse. Although the start of the day was a bit chilly, the sun came out and accomplished this wonderful day. It was a good running day.

The world's most important gold producers are China, Russia, and Australia, which together accounted for a significant portion of global production in 2024. Following them are other major producers like Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Ghana.
China has been the world's leading gold producer for over a decade, producing approximately 380 tonnes in 2024. The country's output is driven by long-term investments in domestic mining and refining infrastructure. Gold remains a vital part of its manufacturing industry, especially in electronics, machinery, and the automotive sector. Shandong is the province with the largest gold reserves and production, making up about 40% of the national total. However, the country's consumption surpasses its production, leading to significant gold imports from countries like Australia and South Africa. Recent exploration has also revealed new resources for China's gold reserves, such as an estimated 168 tonnes announced in October 2025.
Russia ranks second, producing an estimated 310-330 metric tons in 2024. Russia produced an estimated 310,000 kg of gold in December 2024, a slight decrease from the previous year. The country's gold mining industry is concentrated in Siberia and the Far Eastern Federal Districts, particularly in the Krasnoyarsk Krai and Magadan Oblast regions.
Australia ranks third. Australian Gold Production was reported at 290,000.000 kg in Dec 2024. This records a decrease from the previous figure of 296,000.000 kg for Dec 2023. Australia Gold Production data is updated yearly, averaging 269,138.000 kg from Dec 1990 to 2024.
Canada ranks fourth. Canada's gold production reached approximately 200 tonnes in 2024, with the most significant gold production coming from Ontario and Quebec, which together accounted for 70% of the total. While production has been increasing, the Yukon saw a substantial rise in 2023. The mining Company, Agnico Eagle, is Canada's largest gold producer and the second largest gold producer in the world. Gold was first discovered in Canada in the 1820s along the shores of the Rivière Chaudière in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. In 1858, gold discoveries in the sands of B.C.’s Fraser River started what was known as the Cariboo Gold Rush, similar to the famous rushes in Australia and California during the same decade. Another 40 years later, the discovery of gold in the Yukon caused the legendary Klondike Gold Rush, which ushered in one of the most productive periods of gold mining in the history of Canada.

“Imagine ”
Imagine when your makebelieve
Adds color to the world you see.
Imagine when you close your eyes
It’s make-believe you visualize.
When flowers turn their face to you
And smile the way a friend would do
You whisper words so they will know
How much you love their warm hello.
When mermaids swim close by to shore
Singing sweet lullabies and more
Your teddy bears will fall asleep
And then begin to snore.
