Homers Lines Hello everybody and welcome along to Homers Heath for this afternoon's Toolstation Western League Premier Division fixture, at this point I would like to give a big warm Buckland style welcome to today's visitors Chipping Sodbury Town, their players, management team, committee members and any travelling spectators who have made the journey today down to South Devon. We hope you will all enjoy your short stay with us today and will join us in the clubhouse after the final whistle to enjoy a bite to eat and a pint or a soft drink if that's what you'd prefer.

This is the return fixture us winning the game up at Chipping Sodbury back in August, which was our first away league fixture of the season on the Saturday 12th August. The half a dozen or so who travelled to that fixture will probably agree with me that this was probably our best game of football in the passing and move sense we have played this term and we ran out winners by the odd goal in seven in what was a tremendous end to end fixture for the 97 people who watched it.

This game saw our manager Ellis play ninety minutes as a centre half and a good job he made of it, our goals on the day came from four different people Charlie Johansen, Jared Lewington, Richard Groves and Chris Wright. We have been to Chipping Sodbury on a couple of occasions now and I must say their hospitality is second to none. You really get looked after very well at their Ridings ground and also all the committee and their spectators were so very friendly towards us all, I hope we can return the same atmosphere here today at Homers Heath towards their committee and any spectators who have made the journey.

The last home game here saw us beat Corsham Town in a Les Phillips Cup fixture with us running out 2-0 winners with both goals coming from Richard Groves, one from the penalty spot.

This game was watched by 96 spectators and gave us only our third win in nine games as our lean spell continued.

The following week we travelled away to lowly Hengrove Athletic, but once again our poor run of form continued and despite going a goal up halfway through the first half we ended up losing the game by the odd goal in three. Although I will say the two goals that beat us were tremendous efforts from way outside the box and were almost carbon copies of each other. We took the lead when our leading goalscorer Jared Lewington got his head to a low cross from the right hand side to send his effort into the top far corner of the home goal giving their gloves man Carl Merchant no chance at all. It stayed that way until the half-time break, and as the players trooped off the field I thought the score was a fair reflection on what had taken place with us looking the slightly the better of two poor sides.

Admittedly the playing surface wasn't the best but it was the same for both sides and talking to a couple of their spectators in the bar at halftime they like us have a favourite way of playing, which was up the slope away from the clubhouse and that was the way they started in the second-half. As the game wore on, the home side began to look a bit more dangerous and went close a couple of times before drawing level midway through the half when a thirty yard effort from out on the right-hand side of the penalty area from Jack Fillingham, was fired across our defence and Kenny Griffiths into the far left hand corner of the goal to level the scores and cheer up the majority of the forty-one crowd who were watching. We ourselves made a couple of half chances but didn't really trouble the keeper, and Hengrove moved into the lead ten minutes later when, as I said before an almost carbon copy effort nestled into the same spot of the goal from another strike way out on the right probably this time being four or five yards closer in, this time scorer was Rhys Hickery, this goal sending the home crowd into a wild frenzy as they had not won a game in the last five attempts. Despite sending on Charlie Johansen for the last fifteen minutes or so, to put another person in an

Homers Lines attacking position and pushing forward we couldn't get that all-important goal that I feel we did deserve for our effort, although the footballing side of things wasn’t that brilliant. Once again the loss of a couple of regular players Liam Head and Richard Groves didn't help the situation.

After the final whistle us travelling faithful felt a little deflated but still enjoyed a pint in the bar before travelling on the long and quiet journey home, which is always the case when you lose.

The following Saturday we travelled to Shepton Mallet, who like us had started well in the first quarter of the season but had themselves drifted into a lean spell and had in fact, lost their previous home fixture to Brislington by the odd goal in five, and also had only won one league fixture in the last six attempts. We usually put in a good performance at Shepton Mallet's ground, The Playing Field and have won their more times than we have lost, winning twice and losing once in our previous three visits with this result, making it three wins from four visits. Although Liam Head was back for this fixture there was still no sign of Richard Groves. We started very well as is normal at this ground and played some attractive football at times despite the heavy surface and nearly took the lead very early on in the fourth minute when a decent headed effort from Liam Head went close. Nine minutes latera good effort from Ben Carter was blocked by home keeper Tom Easterbrook. Head missed another chance when he directed his close range effort wide of the upright when in a good position. Despite our efforts the home side also had a few of their own without really troubling our keeper Kenny Griffiths. The second half saw us playing us up the slope towards the clubhouse and within five minutes we had taken the lead when a good diagonal through ball from Nick Rudge into the penalty area, saw Gavin Hammon race onto it and beat the advancing home keeper Easterbrook with a low shot into the far corner of the net. Jared Lewington also went close with a headed effort before a pile-driver from new signing Josh Webber produced the save of the day from Easterbrook to keep our advantage down to just the single goal. As time wore on and the final

whistle sounded us travelling faithful were pleased to see the lads play well and get a well earnt three points, much to the disappointment of the majority of the 81 crowd watching the fixture.

Last Saturday we travelled the short distance compared to some of our journeys, to Wellington but despite playing some decent football at times once again we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline going down by the odd goal in three to yet another side in the bottom half of the table. We started well enough and were on top for the first ten to fifteen minutes without really troubling the home keeper, which has been our trouble in recent games. The hosts opened the scoring by what looked a rather fluky goal from where I was standing as the ball hit a player and looped up over our keeper Kenny Griffiths giving him no chance. When Wellington doubled their advantage it was rather annoying that thirty seconds before they scored we were taking a corner at the other end of the field and lost possession easily with the result that Wellington youngster Connor Pengelly scored doubling his tally as he was credited with the first goal as well. We certainly threw the kitchen sink at the home team, and in my opinion should have won that fixture, but for the heroics of home keeper Tom Welch, who made a string of excellent saves, including a couple that were world-class but as much as we have done past, we couldn't break the door down and the final whistle sounded with us once again on the end of an odd goal defeat.

Other results that have been registered over the last couple of weeks have seen our Second Team lose here on the 2nd December going down to the league leaders, Ashburton, by the odd goal in three with our marksmen being Matt Beer. The previous week the lads had defeated title favourites Waldon Athletic also here at Homers Heath once again by the odd goal in three, with our goals coming from Matt Beer again and an own goal, the previous Saturday they lost away at Paignton Villa, once again by the odd goal, although this time in five with our marksmen being Nick Edmonds and young Jack

Homers Lines Hawketts who has stepped up from Under 18 football to hold a regular place in the Second Team this season.

The Third Team also have had a mixed bag of results losing away at Chagford in the Devon Senior Cup on the 2nd December 4-0, the previous week they had collected all three points from a tough league encounter with local rivals Ipplepen winning the game 4-2 with Ben Cowling, Lee Pike, Matt Briant and Glenn Holmes being our marksmen. The previous Saturday had seen our boys engaged in a Fred Hewings Cup Fixture saw us be Ashburton Reserves 2-1 with our goals on the day coming from Dan Harry and Joe Constantinou.

Both Ladies Teams have also played fixtures with the First-Team now sitting and pole position in the South West Women's Football League Premier Division after a convincing home win here a couple of weeks ago against Cornish side Charlestown, they were rather disappointed on 2nd December, when they were travelling to Forest Green Ladies when the game was called off after they had set out on the journey. At the moment First Team have a hundred per cent

league record but sit in second position in the league table after losing the fixture at Forest Green, Torquay United Ladies have taken over at the top of the table with 21 points from their eight starts, with us having 18 points from our six outings.

The Ladies Second Team are also doing very well this term although they have only played one league fixture (which they won 5-0) against Lakeside Ladies from Plymouth. But they have been involved in several cup fixtures and have worked their way to the final of one of the competitions, and I do believe they are still involved in the County Cup competition, so have a lot to play for.

Well that's it for this programme. See you again on Boxing Day, if you can make the journey here. It is a 1pm kick off against local rivals Willand Rovers, who are going really well at the moment and it will be a very tough game for us to collect all three points.

Interim Manager’s Notes Hi Everyone I can honestly say that when I walked off the pitch at Willand Rovers back on May 7th 2016 having just lost the Les Phillips Cup semi final 1-0 I never thought i would be lucky enough to say i was the manager of Buckland Athletic 1st Team, but here we are some 18 months on and I can claim to be the Gaffer again, although I'm disappointed for Ellis that his tenure has come to an end we must put any

negative thoughts to one side and focus on getting back into form and quickly because the season will be over before we know it.

Now is not the time for excuses and playing the blame game, its time to re-group and pull together that's players, committee and supporters, we are part of a great club and we should be giving everything we have got to help move forward.

I'll discuss my plans with the players and what I expect from them over the coming weeks and months, but I can assure you it will be positive and aimed at one thing and one thing only and that's securing as many points as possible between now and the end of April.

Interim Manager’s Notes I can't say too much on squad news because I'm writing this on Tuesday, i can confirm Lloyd has returned, which is fantastic new for us and discussions with new targets and current squad members will be ongoing. One player that has moved on is Ben Carter who has finished his

loan spell from Tiverton Town.

Hi everyone and welcome to this afternoons Toolstation Western League Premier division fixture against Chipping Sodbury Town who have made the long journey down the M5 this afternoon. I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Officials, players and any Chipping Sodbury supporters that have joined us here today, enjoy your afternoon, join us in the clubhouse after the game and please have a safe journey home.

It has been a bit of a hectic week for the club, firstly with Ellis stepping down, then with Adam being appointed as an interim manager for an undefined period. Adam will be ably assisted by long term club stalwarts, Marc Revell and the ever yellow, Steve Giles. Good luck to you all, with more than half the season to be completed let's see if we can get back on track and get back nearer to the top of the table.

Chipping Sodbury Town History Chipping Sodbury Football Club was founded in approximately 1885. The oldest printed record of the club can be found in an old G.F.A. handbook, a little way down the page from local teams such as Bristol City, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham Town. Originally playing in Red and White, the club began playing in the Western League at a semi-pro level until they disbanded in 1954. A few years later a police officer named Cliff Phelps started a local junior side; this team entered the Dursley & Wotton league in 1958. As they team grew up they entered the Bristol & District league—division three, subsequently they were relegated to division 5.

The early 90’s saw the new clubhouse and changing rooms built by the committee, with players contributing their trades. The first team climbed the league’s to eventually get elected to the Bristol Combination Division 1 in 1991. Unfortunately, in 1992 tragedy struck the club when 21 year old defender, Jonathan Eacott was tragically killed in an accident. In 1993 the club won the Premier Cup against Highridge United in a penalty shootout, which was an emotional day due to the tragedy of the previous year. In 1999 the first team gained promotion to the Premier Division under Andy Mathias and Martin Truman but were relegated back to Division one in 2001/02 season.

Les Underdown and Jeff Clark took over the reins, both ex-players, and in their first season they managed to finish in mid-table and made huge contributions off the pitch as well. At the same time Les Timbrell almost took the Reserves to promotion in his first season in charge. The following season 2003/04, the reserves finally achieved promotion as division 3 champions and the first team improved again in division 1 of the Premier Combination.

The 2004/05 season saw the club again improve both on and off the field. The introduction of a third team run by Chris Gear made an immediate impact, with a handful of players making the first team grade, and the side achieved promotion in

Our Visitors Today - Chipping Sodbury Town their first season. Despite the Reserves struggling in their division, they reached the final of the G.F.A. Intermediate Cup against Soundwell Victoria losing narrowly 2—1, and the first team just missed out on promotion.

In season 2005/06, Jeff Clark ran the first team by himself, a season that saw the team avenge the disappointment of the previous season by winning the Premier Division 1 by 15 points; the third team also gained promotion for the second successive season.

The 2006/07 season was another successful season with the Reserves gaining promotion on the last day of the season finishing runners up.

The third team finished in a creditable fourth spot and gained a third successive promotion to Division Three. The season ended on a sad note with the loss of club stalwart John Beer. John gave over 30 years’ service to the club, as a player, manager and Chairman and was a key figure in the building of the clubhouse you see today. He will always be remembered, as the Clubs Clubman of the year award is now named in his honour, the John Beer Trophy.

Season 2007/08 was the most successful in the 123 year history of the Club with the first winning the Premier Combination and gaining entry into the Surridge Gloucestershire County League for the first time. The Reserves won the Bristol and District division one and were promoted to the Senior District, and the fourth team gained promotion at their first attempt in the Stroud and District League.

The 2008/09 season was the clubs first season in the County League and was a case of finding our feet, although some performances were quite good, overall we struggled and found ourselves at the bottom of the league. Lucky for us there

were no relegation movements this season.

Early in the 2009/2010 season Mark Stenner took over, his leadership soon had the team playing at the top of their game, and the results were evident. After a poor start, and a very wet and soggy season we finished a very creditable eighth position. Season 2010/2011 was the best in the County League yet, with Sodbury produced some scintillating football and proving to be a team that was very hard to beat, with a never give up attitude. At, or near the top of the table all season they finished at a position that showed their approach to the game and commitment throughout the year, with an excellent third place.

Season 2011-2012 saw Mark Stenner leave in November, and Scott Gibson take over the side who had had a poor start to the season. This disruption saw the club enter into a less successful season, and our status in the league was in jeopardy until the end of the season. Season 2012-2013 saw Scott’s first full season in charge and a phase of rebuilding after re-shuffling all 3 sides. The firsts have retained a number of key players and added good players throughout the season, finishing 6th from bottom.

Season 2013-2014 improved again by finishing 9th position and Scott Gibson then Handed the seat to Karl Rees .

Season 2014-2015 Karl Rees finished 4th in the county league and with mass improvements to the ground Chipping Sodbury were promoted to the Western League .

2015-2016 Karl Reese won the Division one which promoted us to the premier division .

2017-2018 Neil Simmons has been appointed to replace Karl Rees for the coming season.

Who’s Who in the Chipping Sodbury Town Squad outlet when the ball is in his hands, previously with Rockleaze George Hale - Goalkeeper - a Sodbury lad who has been with the club for a number of years.

George is an agile keeper who is a good shotstopper with a huge kick and a great attitude Mike Beecham - Defender - an uncompromising player who is comfortable on the ball and good in the air. Mike has come through the club as a junior, playing at all levels and is this years Club Captain.

Theo Coombs - Defender, joined this season from Radstock Town Theo is a footballing two footed defender who is strong in the tackle and good in the air and surprisingly quick.

Andy Criddle - Defender in his second season with the club after joining from Welton Rovers.

Commanding in the air, a strong tackler with a great attitude and winning mentality. A real character both in the dressing rooms and on the field.

Alex Cumming - Defender, promoted from within the Club Alex is an accomplished player who is good in the air and comfortable with the ball at his feet. Alex does the simple things well and is always looking for an opportunity for the telling pass.

Tom Fry - Defender/Midfielder. Tom is an uncompromising defender or holding midfielder who is quick and who uses the ball well. Tom was previously a Bristol Rovers youth player and has played at Yate Town and Mangotsfield Utd. Jack Parker - Midfielder who is in his second season with the Sods after joining from Oldland Abbotonians. Jack is a very quick dribbler who likes to run at defenders from a wide midfield role, his quick feet make him a nightmare for defenders to tackle.

Danny Clement - Midfielder, another youngster who has been with the Sods for a while. Playing in a wide midfield role Danny has two good feet, great vision and plenty of pace. He has also proved, this season, that goals are also part of his game with several strikes already Steve Fitzpatrick - Midfielder in his first season with the club after joining from Mangotsfield United. Steve is an experienced player with great vision and positional sense. He has two good feet and is strong in the tackle.

of the Club Ollie is the teams go to midfielder as he is always able to find himself space to receive and give the ball. He is equally happy on either side and rarely wastes his passes.

Harley Warren - Defender/Midfielder in his third season with the club Harley shows great maturity for his age and is good with both feet. He is good at creating space for himself and rarely wastes the ball. Has grown in stature and confidence since being Young player of the year in his first season Justin Bishop - Striker back in the First team after a year off Bish is the complete striker. He is quick, strong and a handful for any defender and his knack of being in the right place at the right time also makes him a typical opportunist. Previously with Longwell Green, Tytherington Rocks and Yate Town Jake Thomas - Midfielder/striker in his first season with the Club after being spotted in a pre season friendly. Jake played a few games last season for Roman Glass St George and was ambitious to play at a higher level.He has already displayed his ability and pace and high work rate and shows great potential especially when running at defences.

Jon Morgan - Striker, a local lad who has been with the club since he was 17 but who has only just broken into the first team. Jon is a skillful target man who is not afraid to take defenders on.

He has two good feet and will compete well in the air, a very skillfil player.

Luke Henderson - Striker, Luke is a young talented natural target man with a good first touch and is an excellent finisher. His distribution and decision making makes him a great prospect.

Who’s Who in the Chipping Sodbury Town Squad He is an excellent finisher with a knack of being in the right place at the right time. Has previously been with Yate Town and Cribbs FC George Box - Striker, another local lad who joined us last season and was unfortunate to suffer a number of injuries. Now back to full fitness George will cause problems for defenders with his mobility, strength and direct style.

Jack Smyth - Midfield. In his first season with the Sods Jack is no stranger to Western League football having previously been with Brislington, He is a hard working player who is strong in the tackle and good on the ball.

James Kenway - Defender/Midfield, a player who is equally at home in defence or midfield James is robust in the tackle, good in the air and rarely wastes the ball. In his first season with the club and looks the part at this level.

Sam Jenkins - Midfield, back at the club after a short spell with Mangotsfield Utd. Sam is a very skillfull box to box player who will create problems for most opposing teams. He is a tireless worker who is well balanced and a wizard with the ball at his feet.

Neil Simons - Manager - before starting his managerial career Neil was a right footed, defensive player who always gave 100%. He set high standards as a player and has carried that forward into management by showing honesty and respect. This enables him to get the best out of others.

Aaron Day - Asst Manager - Previously played as a centre back at Mangotsfield Utd, Welton Rovers, Rockleaze Rangers and Cadbury Heath amongst a few others. First permanent stint in management although Aaron has stepped in on short term appointments at various previous clubs.

Kerry Georgiou - Coach. Kerry joined the club this season as part of the new management team, he holds UEFA B licence and currently works for Bristol City Ken Purnell - Physio, in his second season with the club Ken is probably the best physio in the League. He looks after players across all the Sods five teams as well as the Glos County representative teams. the club would be lost without him.

We welcome their management team, players, club officials and of course their supporters that have made the trip down to Devon today. Their 2017-18 Toolstation Western League Premier Division campaign began away at Longwell Green Sports and they got off to a winning start, 3-0, J Bishop, D Clement and J Thomas all on target, but they did lose their second game at home against ourselves Buckland, on the 12th August, losing 4-3, J Bishop, D Clement and an own goal, but it was two wins three days later when they defeated Bitton away 3-1, Clement,

S Fitzpatrick and J Thomas scoring. They had a tough game at home against Melksham Town and it ended in a creditable 2-2 draw, Bishop and J Parker scoring, but they were beaten at home by another side from Devon, Willand Rovers on the 26th August 3-0, and another defeat followed away at high flying Bradford Town 2-1 G Box scoring. Their first game in September ended in a very good 4-1 win against visitors Brislington, Bishop, Box, Fitzpatrick and H Warren all on target, but they were beaten by the league new boys away at Hengrove Athletic 4-1, A Criddle with their consolation in this loss.

They then picked up three points when they defeated Cribbs at home 2-0, J Parker and L Pullen scoring, and another point followed with a 33 draw away at Shepton Mallet, J Thomas, J Bishop and an own goals giving them a share of the spoils, and this unbeaten run continued

Bucks Ed’s Look at Chipping Sodbury Town when they defeated high flying Willand Rovers away 1-0, T Fry scoring the all-important goal in their first game in the month of October. That run came to an end when they were beaten at home

by Odd Down (Bath) 2-0, but it was back to winning ways when they defeated Wells City at home 3-0, G Box with two and J Bishop scoring, They were beaten away at Clevedon Town 2-1, Box again on target, and another defeat came against struggling Hallen at home 2-1, J Morgan, and third defeat came away at Bridgwater Town 2-1, own goal, and a fourth loss came at home against table toppers and title favourites Street 30. Last Saturday they picked up an point when they drew 0-0 at home against Longwell Green Sports.

In this seasons FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round they were at home against Brackley Town Saints from the Hellenic League Premier Division and they won this tie 3-1, J Bishop, D Clement and L Pullen all scoring. In the Preliminary Round they were at home again, this time against Bishops Cleeve from the Southern League Division One West, and they exited the famous competition, beaten 3-1 Bishop scoring. In the FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round they were away at Malmesbury Victoria from the Western League Division One, and they were surprisingly beaten 5-3, G Box getting two and Bishop scoring. In the Les Phillips Cup they were beaten in the 1st Round away at Bridgwater Town 4-0. In the Gloucester County Cup they were at home against Lydney Town which ended 0-0, but they won on penalties 3-1.

They come here to the Heath in Fourteenth place in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division having now played eighteen games, winning six, drawing three, losing nine, scoring twentynine, conceding thirty-one, gaining twenty-one points, and they haven’t won in the last five games, that draw stopped a run of four consecutive defeats. At home they have already played ten games, winning three, drawing two, losing five, scoring fifteen, conceding seventeen, gaining eleven points, and they haven’t won in the last three games at home, losing two of those

games. Away they have played eight games, winning three, drawing one, losing four, scoring fourteen, conceding fourteen, gaining ten points, and they have lost their last two games on their travels. They have attracted 921 spectators to their ten home league games at an average of 92.1, their highest attendance being 168 when they played Brislington on the 2nd September, the lowest crowd was 63 against Street on the 2nd December. Justin Bishop has now scored nine goals in twenty-one games, next comes George Box with seven goals in fourteen appearances.

After today’s game they will be in action on the 23rd December and they will be at home against Bitton, and they have already beaten them away on the 15th August 3-1, and in last seasons corresponding game they won the game 2-1. Then on Boxing Day they are away at Cadbury Heath, and in last season’s game there they were beaten 2-0. Their final game of 2017 on the 30th December they will be away at Melksham Town, and they drew 2-2 at home with them on the 22nd August, and in last season’s corresponding game ended in a 2-2 draw.

This is their second season in the Western League Premier Division, last season 2016-17 they finished in a creditable thirteenth place. Buckland Athletic’s Record Versus Chipping Sodbury Town Our very first meeting in the Western League Premier Division was last season, 2016-17, and the first game was away on the 5TH November and it ended all square 2-2, C Johansen and R Groves scoring our goals, and the attendance that day was 92.

The team that played: G Fisher, C Walters, L Drew, N Rudge, S Laughton, L Head, D Griffiths, R Groves, C Johansen, J Lewington, L Gardner, substitute was G Hammon who replaced Lewington.

The home league game here at the Heath was on the 18th March and we won this encounter 32, J Lewington with two and C Johansen scoring, and the attendance was 123.

The team that played: G Fisher, R Dabbs, L Drew, N Rudge, K Green, L Head, S Revell, R Groves, C Johansen, J Lewington, L Gardner, with substitutes J Chamberlian replacing Johansen and S Lauighton replacing Groves, with Green and Lewington both receiving cautions.

We also met in the Les Phillips Cup 2nd Round here at the Heath on the 4th March and we won this game 2-1, L Gardner and C Duff scoring the goals, and the attendance was 81 at this cup tie.

Midweek Action: In Monday evening’s FA Vase replay, two goals from Luke Ballinger sealed the deal for Melksham Town as they progressed at the expense of Bridgwater Town thanks to a 2-0 win at Oakfields. Ballinger opened the scoring in the early minutes after his free-kick evaded everyone before nestling in the goal, before the same man capped a fine individual performance late on with a fearsome drive. Melksham will now meet Crowborough Athletic in the last 32 after seeing off Bridgwater following a terrific 210 minutes of cup action between the sides. In the Premier Division on Tuesday, an 18th minute strike from Ed Butcher was the difference between the sides as Bridport claimed a 1-0 win away at Longwell Green Sport. The following evening, two goals from Craig Veal helped Willand Rovers knock out Plymouth Argyle in their Devon FA St Lukes Bowl quarter-final.

Premier Division: Street extended their winning run in the league to 11 matches following a 1-0 triumph at home to Hengrove Athletic. After going close on a couple occasions in the early stages, Street finally made the breakthrough when David O’Hare headed home in the 36th minute and that proved to be enough to claim the three points. Willand Rovers scored three times after the break to claim an impressive 3-0 win away at Bridgwater Town. The in-form Craig Veal set the visitors on their way in the second minute of the second-half, before Luke Mortimore

doubled their lead on the hour. It was then left to Luke Alden to add gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time with Willand’s third to end Bridgy’s five -match winning run in the league. Third-place Bradford Town also scored their goals during the second-half in their 2-0 victory at home to Brislington. The hosts were gifted with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the 65th minute, but Alex Monks saw his penalty cannon back of the post, before seeing his rebound pushed wide for a corner. From the resulting setpiece, Martin Lenihan swung the ball in at the front post where it nestled into the net to save Monks’ blushes and give Bradford the lead. Danny Greaves’ side then wrapped-up victory late on when Sam Jordan fired the ball home. In the performance of the day, the ten-men of Shepton Mallet overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Bridport 3-2. A bad challenge early on from Jack Goodall saw him sent off, and Bridport took advantage of the extra man by taking a half-time lead through Leigh Bailey. Richard Hebditch then doubled the away side’s tally on the hour mark, before Tyson Pollard reduced the arrears with a well-taken goal. Moving into the final ten minutes, Harry Ratcliffe was felled in the box which allowed Pollard to equalise from the spot, and then with just minutes remaining skipper James Billing slotted home to complete the dramatic comeback. Down Memory Lane Hello everyone and welcome to yet another trip into the past down memory lane where we will look at a programme from the long and distant past. Today's programme has been lent to me by my good friend “Whispering Steve Feasby” from his adequate collection he has compiled over the years.

today's programme, which looks forward to the encounter tonight with the Polish visitors and looks back on the previous European games so far this season. The bottom quarter of this page is taken up with a list of club directors, chairman, secretary and others of importance that help run a successful football club. Pages 4 and 5 are devoted to today's visitors with the first page being taken up completely with a squad photograph and the next page gives a pen picture of the majority of that squad. It also tells us that today's visitors Widez Lodz got to this UEFA competition by finishing as runners-up in the Polish League last season.

Page 6 is written by Ipswich captain Mick Mills, who gives his opinion on the match in front of them this evening and other various up-andcoming matches. Page 7 is divided into two lengthways with the left-hand side looking at 24year-old Zbigniew Bonieck, the captain of today's visitors who according to the article is a very exciting prospect and plays regularly or the Polish international team. The second half of this page gives us some more facts about the Polish side Widez Lodz and lists some of their achievements over the years. Page 8 lists every game Ipswich have played in Europe over the years with the players who took part in it and the result and goalscorers, etc. Page 9 has an in-depth look at the up-and-coming utility player 20-yearold Steve McCall and lists is achievements and career record at Ipswich Town.

Today's edition looks back at a UEFA Cup game with Ipswich Town facing RTS Widzew Lodz from Poland. The front cover shows a picture of John Wark displaying the UEFA football flag, also on the front page it tells us this particular game was a Third Round First leg tie with a 7.30pm kick-off and the course of the addition was 30p. Page 2 is entitled ‘European Diary’ and gives a rundown on the matches Ipswich have played so far and what is to come as well as looking at some of the other games played in this competition so far this term. Page 3 is entitled ‘Bobby Robson’ and has a nice coloured photograph of a very young looking Bobby Robson who writes his notes for

Pages 10 and 11 deal with the previous UEFA Cup game against Czechoslovakian team Bohemians with several small black-and-white action photographs taken during the game and an indepth report on the action throughout the ninety minutes in each leg. The two centre pages are taken up with a large sized coloured squad photograph of the Ipswich squad for this current season. Pages 13 and 14 once again look at the action in the UEFA Cup with reports on several games involving various European teams in the previous round and also some black-and-white action photographs this piece is written by Chris Davies. Pages 18 and 19 are the statistics pages, the first one lists all the fixtures for this season both in the League Division One and in Europe and tells us the next match here at Portman Road will be Middlesbrough, that to be played on Saturday 29th November, the opposite page gives more facts and figures including an up-to-date Division One league table for the season 1980-81, which sees Aston Villa top at this current time with 28 points from their 19 games and Ipswich 26 points from their 17, it also on this page lists appearances, goals scored and league tables for the Second and Third teams.

Pages 20 and 21 are entitled ‘Action Replay’ and show us six black-and-white photographs from the 3-0 win here in the last round of the UEFA Cup against the Czech opposition Bohemians.

Page 22 has a coloured photograph of the Ipswich side training back in 1973-74 when in the UEFA Cup, that season they had good wins over Real Madrid, Lazio and FC Twente before bowing out the competition to Locomotive Leipzig after a penalty shootout. Page 23 is divided into two and looks back at Ipswich's fate firstly ten years ago with a rundown on how they did that season and secondly nearer to home five years ago where the same thing is done a second time.

Page 24 the outside back cover lists both squads for this evening’s fixture both naming fourteen players, also names the three officials for today's encounter, who all come from France.

Ipswich won this two legged tie and in fact went on to reach the final and win the competition beating AZ'67 in a two legged final winning the first leg at Portman Road 3-0 with Wark, Mariner and Thijessen scoring goals but were beaten 4-2 in the away leg lifting the cup 5-4 on aggregate with Wark and Thijessen scoring in the second game also.

Buckland Athletic - A Club History The club was formed in 1977 purely as a junior club. We started life in the Torbay Pioneer League and Sandringham Park was our home pitch. As a junior club it was the biggest in the area, running a total of six sides in six different age groups for several seasons. We won many titles over the years including the Devon Youth Cup. In the season of 1987-88 we were accepted into the Devon and Exeter League and started our senior football life in Senior Division Three playing home games at Coach Road with Roy Holmes still in charge. In our first season we won the Championship and were promoted into Senior Two in 1988-89. Well in the 1989-90 season we gained promotion once more into Senior One these two promotions were gained with a very youthful side. In 1990-91 we were on the move again this time to Decoy and this season saw us win the Wheaton Trophy. We finally achieved our dream of being promoted to the Premier Division in 1992-93, having now moved to our old ground at Homers Lane and the club hasn't looked back since that move took place. In 1994-95 season saw Roy Holmes step down as first team manager and Nigel Holmes and Roger Madge took the job on. Reserves went through the season undefeated in the Devon and Exeter Senior Division Two and were promoted to Senior One. The first team ended the season in sixth place in the league table and were beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup. 2002-2003 was another successful season in the life of Buckland, the Reserves won the Devon FA Senior Cup at Coach Road, beating Princess Yachts International 3-0. They were also promoted to the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League after finishing in third place, that was only decided on their last game of the season when the top three sides were all in with a chance of securing the title. The First team finished up third in the table which at the start of the season was, as many supporters said beyond them but the managers got good players in at the right times through the season. We also won the Devon League programme award and finished 29th out of a total of 1100 non league programme in the renowned Wirral awards.

2003-2004 was a new era in the club’s history, a third senior side was established and went on to win The South Devon League Division Seven Championship with ease. The First team finished in eighth place, with Gary Taylor stepping down from his assistant manager position, their lowest position since joining the Devon League. The Reserves finished in fourth spot in The Devon and Exeter Premier Division, Manager Simon Glanfield stood down as manager. The programme finished first in the Devon League section of the Wirral programme awards and 11th out of 1100 non-league programmes. 2004-05 we did better than the previous season by finishing in 7 th place. Throughout this season the new ground was being worked on by a loyal band of club people. In the final year of the Wirral programme awards we finished in our highest position of sixth out of 1100, winners were Exeter City. For the 2005-06 season we started life playing our games at our new permanent home, Homers Heath on the Kingskerswell Road. The move went very well, and the ground was opened on Saturday 13th July when an estimated 300 + people turned out to see Steve Perryman cut the ribbon to open the pitch. Plymouth Argyle bringing a team up on Wednesday 13th July followed this up. And Argyle Chairman Mr Stapleton officially opened the clubhouse. Paul Feasby and Andy Paddon were in charge of the First team and we finished in our lowest league position of 13th.

In the 2006-07 season all the talk was about the re-structuring of the Devon League and South Western League. One League with three Divisions was being formed called the South West Peninsula League. We managed to finish the season in 12th place under the leadership of Phil Bayliss and Gary Taylor and we had done just enough to meet our goal of qualifying for the SWPL

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Premier Division along side the topsides in both the South Western and Devon Leagues.

The 2007-08 season was an extremely successful one for the club, the first team finished in 14th place in the new South West Peninsula League Premier Division.

We won the SWPL Premier Division best ground award, which is voted by the other clubs visits to Homers Heath we also won the SWPL Programme award.

The Reserves won the South Devon League Division 3 title, were runners-up in the prestigious Herald Cup, Devon Intermediate Cup Winners and Divisional Cup winners. The 3rd Team won the SDL Division 6 title, the Fred Hewings Cup and their Divisional Cup Final. In the 2008-09 season, the club enjoyed another successful season, the 1st team finished the season in 3rd place in the SWPL Premier Division, and for the second season running we won both the ground and programme award for the Premier division. The 2nd Team had a highly successful season, winning the South Devon League Division Two title and getting promoted to Division One, they also won the Devon Senior Cup with a 1-0 win over Lifton at Coach Road, this for the second time in the club's history. However, 2nd Team manager Ian Miller decided it was time to step down and concentrate on his now role as the clubs commercial agent having enjoyed huge success with the 2nd Team. The 3rd Team finished in second placed in the SDL Division Five and gained promotion to Division Four. Our Under 14 side also were very successful, winning their league title and league cup and winning the Devon FA County Cup at Coach Road with a fine 41 win over Plymouth Kolts.

Buckland had a phenomenal season in 2009-10, the 1st team did the double, winning the SWPL Premier Division title and the Throgmorton Cup pipping Bodmin Town to both, in what was manager Phil Bayliss’ last season in charge. They lost just three times in the league and were unbeaten in all their 19 home games. We also played in the famous FA Cup competition for the first time in the club’s history. They actually won the league on goal difference from Bodmin Town and they also beat them 2-1 after extra time in the Throgmorton Cup final played at Cullompton’s Speed Meadow. This was a wonderful way for Phil to hand over control to new manager Steve Massey for the 2010-11 season. The 2nd Team had a very successful season once again, this time they won the SDL Division One league title and they retained the Devon Senior Cup Final beating Elburton Villa Reserves at Coach Road 3-1. Again the 2nd Team manager Jim Barrett also decided to resign at the end of the season and Adam Castle will now be in charge of their new quest in the SDL Premier Division. The 3rd Team won the SDL

Division Four league title, and they will be managed again this coming season by Scott Chisholm, who has guided them to many successes over number years.

The success kept coming in the 2010-11 season, the 1st Team retained the SWPL Premier Division title, by an eight point margin, they also became the lowest ranked club to win the Devon St Lukes Bowl when they defeated Tiverton Town on penalties in that final. The 2nd Team finished in 3rd place in their first season in the SDL Premier Division, and they did win the George Belli Cup, defeating Totnes & Dartington 2nds 4-2.

The 3rd team also finished in 3rd place in SDL Division 3, are they achieved promotion. They also won the Fred Hewings Cup for the second time, when they defeated WBB 2nds 1-0. The Junior side of the club continues to grow, but we have lost both Under 16 sides, but a lot of those players ware now signing senior forms for club, so hopefully we will find a number of young stars for all three senior sides.

The 2011-12 season was another significant one in the history of Buckland Athletic. Although the 1 st team relinquished their grip on the SWPL Premier Division title, beaten into second place by a very good Bodmin Town side, we had done enough to secure promotion to the Toolstation Western League Premier Division at Step 5. We were also beaten finalists in the Throgmorton Cup, again losing out to Bodmin Town, but we did retain the prestigious Devon St Lukes Bowl, again we played Tiverton town (Step 4) in the final, this time at the Heath, but this season we ran out worthy winners in 90 minutes, 4-0. The 2nd Team finished as runners-up in the SDL Premier Division, but they did win the Herald Cup for the first time in the clubs history, beating Watcombe Wanderers in that final 3-2 after extra time. They also made it through to the semifinals of the Devon Premier Cup, beaten by eventual winners and SWPL Division One East winners Liverton United. The 3rd Team didn’t win any silverware this season, but they had a great season, finishing in fourth place in the SDL Division Two table, and were beaten finalists in the Lidstone Cup. But the most pleasing part for the 3rds were the amount of the previous seasons Under 16s side made it into the side throughout the season. Manager Scott Chisholm has now decided to stand down as 3rd Team manager, he has been in charge of them since the teams formation in 2003, and had won promotion every season, until this one.

Scott will be missed but he will remain involved with the club off the field, with former 1st team stalwarts Neil Montandon and Ben Williamson taking on the manager role with help from Nigel Holmes for the 2012-13 season. Antony Lynch will again lead the 1st Team, alongside his assistant Tom Kelly, but we have lost another stalwart for the new season, as assistant manager

Buckland Athletic - A Club History Jaimie Carwardine has now moved away from the area and has had to stand down, and again he will be sorely missed. Adam Castle will once again be in charge of the 2nd Team assisted by Paul Tucker, Simon Dungey and Steve Giles. The 1st Team’s first season in the Toolstation Western League ended in a tenth place finish, but the club did the Hospitality award and programme award in this first campaign.

The 2nd Team won the South Devon League Premier Division title for the first time in its history, they also lost out in the finals of both the Devon Premier Cup and Herald Cup to Exmouth Town and Watcombe Wanderers respectively. The 3rd Team finished in third place in SDL Division Two, and were promoted to Division One, they also won the Fred Hewings Cup beating Totnes & Dartington 3rds.

For the 2013-14, our highly successful 2nd Team manager, Adam Castle will now be in charge of the 1 st Team for its second season in the Western League Premier Division. There is a new man in charge of the 2nd Team, Simon Dungey will be the man to lead them in this campaign, while the 3rd Team will be once again lead by Neil Montandon. In his first season in charge of the 1st Team, Adam Castle led them to an 11th place finish in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. The club retained the Premier Division Programme award. The 2nd Team finished in 4th place in the South Devon League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup, going down 3-1 to Watcombe Wanderers. The 2rd Team finished as runners-up to Dartmouth in the South Devon League Division One, but they retained the Fred Hewings Cup by beating Watcombe Wanderers 2nds 2-1, this was their third win of this trophy in the last four seasons.

What another great season for the club was 2014-15, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished as runners-up in the Western League Premier Division (Step Five), which was a great achievement, we also won the Premier Division programme award for the third consecutive season. The 2nd Team led by Neil Snell ended this season as Champions of the South Devon League Premier Division, and our 3rd Team managed by club stalwart Nigel Holmes also finished as champions, this time of the South Devon League Division One, and they also retained the Fred Hewings Cup winning it for the fifth time, they also introduced a few of our talented Under 16s players into senior football.

Now onto the 2015-16 season, firstly there was substantial drainage work done to the playing surface during the summer, and we must thank Viridor Credits

for their help in funding these works. Onto the football, the 1st Team managed by Adam Castle finished in 4th Place in the Western League Premier Division, but not good enough to reach our goal of promotion. The 2nd Team managed again by Neil Snell retained the South Devon League Premier Division title, and were beaten finalists in the Herald Cup. Our 3rd Team finished the season in the South Devon League Division One as runners-up, in what was manager Nigel Holmes last season in charge. The club fielded it’s first Ladies team managed by Grant Fisher, in the Devon Women's League Division One, and they didn’t drop a point when winning the league title, and they then added the League Cup, in what was a fantastic season for them.

Also during the season a lot of work was carried out at Homers Heath, including a new covered standing area, which incorporates two new turnstiles. The ground was fenced in, and an impressive outside toilet block was built. This work allowed the club to achieve a ‘D’ Ground Grade which is good enough for Southern League football.

2016-17 was another very good season for the club, the 1st Team finished in 4th place in the Western League Premier, and collected their best points tally since joining the league. The team also reached in the last eight of the FA Vase, going down 2-0 away against Bromsgrove Sporting, this means that it was very good season for new manager Ellis Laight. The club also won the Western League Hospitality Award and best programme award this season. The 2nd Team won their third consecutive South Devon League Premier Division title, under the leadership of Lee Chapman and Ben Robertson. Our 3rd Team under Phil Bearne and Paul Sharples finished as runners-up in the South Devon League Division One, and won their sixth Fred Hewings Cup trophy. Now on to our all conquering Ladies 1st Team who won the South West Women's League Western Division, dropping just two points over their unbeaten season. They also added the Soccerworld League Cup and the Devon FA Senior Cup to that success which saw them end this season as treble winners. Our Ladies 2nd Team finished mid-table in a very hard Devon Women's League Premier Division, and were beaten finalists in the Devon FA Supplementary Cup. There were also varies successes for our Junior sides, bot boys and girls.

We now move onto the 2017-18 season, again the aim is for the 1st Team to gain promotion to the Southern League, which in turn would allow the 2nd Team if they finished in a promotion position to move up to the South West Peninsula League. The 1st Team will again be managed by Ellis Laight, and have kept all but one of last season squad. The 2nd Team will be

The Ladies1st and 2nd Teams keep their management structure for this coming season, with the 1st Team now in the SWWL Premier Division and the 2nd Team in Devon Women's League Premier Division. There will also be more junior sides added in both boys and girls teams,. The club continues to grow, and with everyone pulling in the right direction, which includes our fantastic loyal sponsors, and supporters he sky is the limit to what we can achieve.
