There’s not much help out there for moms dealing with teenage daughters. It’s the most intense and emotional relationship a mom can ever experience. If you add a divorce into the mix you have a toxic tsunami! In order to cope one mom, Robin Maxfield decided to turn her experiences into stand up comedy. It turned out that finding the funny was a terrific alternative to murder (JK of course). Robin founded Boston Comedy Chicks, Boston’s only all female comedy night. The community has grown to more than 80 female comics. It became clear that mother’s deserved some TLC so Robin got an idea to create the haha mama Mother’s Day Comedy Show in 2010. Local Mom comics like Erika Welch joke about how Mother’s Day should be celebrated by pretending you’re NOT a mom for the day! Over the last six years Robin has sought out the funniest comics on motherhood to deliver a hilarious show with diverse perspectives on the hardest job on earth. This show has grown from a 50 seat venue to shows in Boston’s finest comedy clubs This year’s headlining comic in the Boston show (and mom of “adult” children) Jane Condon (janecondon.com) has appeared on Last Comic Standing, The View and the Today Show. Robin Maxfield as host the Boston show will feature 5 other terrific comics. For the first time this year there will be a simultaneous show in Manchester, NH where Julie Mudd founder of Baby Joy will be hosting a showcase of mom comics as well. These shows go beyond hilarity and reminds moms they are not alone and when they are in the middle of a challenging parenting moment they may just choose laughter. Go to http://hahamamashow.com to see more information including ticket purchase for both the Manchester and Boston shows. Use code “CHICKS” to get $5 off the ticket price.
EDITOR’S NOTE This one is for all the Moms out there. This Sunday we celebrate all of the women who devoted their lives to help raise, hopefully, respectful, well-adjusted, productive members of adult society. Well, at least they tried! I was lucky enough to have a Mom who devoted her life to her kids, and did a good job, see above. While not everyone had a “Mom” in their life, hopefully those of you who didn’t, did have a Grandmother, Auntie or Big Sister who could help fill that most important of formative roles. So this weekend, remember that special woman with a call, some flowers, a card - or maybe even bring them to one of our advertiser’s performances or activities - you never know, you might introduce them to something they never have experienced before. At the very least, if you have some unresolved issues, take Mom out to Boston Paintball and well, you know the rest! Truly - these are the women who helped shaped who we have become, and give us a glimpse into who we will be in the future - respect! Thanks for reading. Ann Marie LeMiere - Editor

WHY CROSSING INDUSTRIES IS THE KEY TO CREATIVE SUCCESS You are probably more valuable than you think. Focus is important, but if you are not diversifying your skills, you are missing out on opportunities. If you are creative by nature - you are already valuable. But are you taking advantage of all of your potential? The only thing holding you back is yourself. We are all guilty of this. For some reason, doing something for ourselves seems indulgent. It is important to resist making excuses. But where can I start? I should do this, but I am too busy... But my dog will eat my crafting supplies... Going back to school is too expensive... Not if you begin learning skills from your living room at Creative Living Works. Sign up for free as a member at creativeliving.works and start learning something new today (not tomorrow or next week!) Once signed up, take advantage of tools to help you make inventory to sell on an etsy shop, freelance, create websites, write blogs, teach a workshop, mend clothing, photograph artwork or consult/ craft for events. Being able to do multiple things for yourself and for others is the ultimate goal but it is also crazy to think we can do everything ourselves. One of the reasons I founded Creative Living Works is because we also feel better hiring each other for gigs. Some of my favorite design clients are other creative professionals. Working with someone who wants you to use your imagination, get experimental or collaborate is the best. For one, they will also probably not ask you to try red font on a black background! (This and other ridiculous requests come my way when designing websites...) So start networking with others members in creative fields who can fill in the blanks for you. You can also set up a profile in 5 minutes that will allow others to hire you. As creative professionals we all have a craft we are passionate about. In order to be successful in the real world, we need to be armed with many other skills that may not come as naturally. Creative Living Works is a community where creative minds can expand their tool-sets to master the balance of art, business and life. We can all benefit from learning and sharing our experiences. Curating talented instructors to teach skills across a variety of channels, CLW courses are available to help improve upon your process and open up new doors. Webinars feature experts in the business of being creative to inspire you to tackle challenges. So no more excuses, let’s expand your potential and marketability at creativeliving.works! - Danielle Festa, Founder of Creative Living Works

When Emma celebrated birthday number 9, she and a group of her closest friends came in to try their hand at some SplatMaster Paintball. When she turned 10, she brought them back for Round 2. This year when her 11th birthday came around, Emma decided she was ready to take it to the next level. She and the girls would be celebrating for the 3rd year in a row with new Low Impact Paintball. Her mom said that she always wakes up the morning of her party and says - “this is my favorite day of the year!!”..... Not exactly the stereotypical player whom you imagined enjoying the paintball experience. Paintball has come a long way - it’s now more out of the woods and has new versions that are getting players as young as 8 years old into the game. SplatMaster gives the little ones all the thrill of the splat but with a spring powered marker, smaller paintballs and minimal impact. Low Impact is the great in between that allows players from 10-85 a chance to share the thrill of paintball with a little less ouch - smaller, lighter compact paintball markers with smaller paintballs and lower velocity make this the perfect fit for mixed groups, first time players and mid-level adrenaline seekers. Full on Dare Devils will still enjoy traditional paintball, in all of its glory fitting for celebrating the Bachelor or settling some friendly office or dorm room scores. There are 3 locations to choose from - all with a unique playing experience and walk on play as well as private group play is always available. Boston Paintball has become a staple in the Boston entertainment scene over the past 25 years and you can be sure that the memories you create with a little paintball adventure will last a lifetime. Since 1992, Boston Paintball has been the largest indoor playing facility in New England. Conveniently located off Rt 1 in Chelsea (5 minutes from downtown in Home Depot Plaza), we cater to players of all skill levels and specialize in first -time players. We can accommodate groups of any size and with advance planning and can run “tournament”-style events complete with teams, scoring, and event awards! Brand-new facility with 2 fields, staging area, seating and 180 feet of viewing. Additional facilities include the all outdoor facility located at 145 Powder Mill Road in Sudbury Ma and New England’s newest multi-use playing facility at 120 Pond St. in Ashland (Indoor & outdoor paintball). SPLATMASTER EXPERIENCE AT ALL LOCATIONS FOR AGES 8 AND UP as well as the new Low Impact version for players ages 10+. SEE OUR AD ON BACK COVER
