Come Aboard! Mayflower II Returns to Plymouth Following a six-month stay at Mystic Seaport’s Henry B. DuPont Preservation Shipyard, Plimoth Plantation’s iconic square-rigged wooden sailing vessel Mayflower II has returned to her berth in Plymouth Harbor and is ready to greet visitors! This was the second winter away for Plymouth’s hometown ship, as part of a multi-year, $12 million preservation effort that is set to continue – pending successful fundraising – later this year. Visiting the ship has given millions of people who have stepped aboard since 1957 a rare glimpse into the maritime world of the 17th century and now Plimoth Plantation, the acclaimed living history museum of 17th-century Colonial and Native New England, is working to save her. As the Town of Plymouth and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts prepare for 2020, the 400th commemoration of the Pilgrims’ arrival on the region’s shores, it’s an exciting time to enjoy Mayflower II – from hands-on demonstrations to living history programs and concerts to engaging speakers on a variety of maritime topics. Come aboard this summer to experience Mayflower II. For details on a season of fun programming for the whole family, visit www.plimoth.org. Follow @plimothplantation on Facebook and Instagram and @plimoth on Twitter and Snapchat – use #MayflowerII and #MayflowerMemories to share your photos! SEE OUR AD ON PAGE 3

Summer is in full swing, and nothing says summer more than the 4th of July! Celebrating America’s Independence takes on a whole new meaning this year – what with all of the political vitriol that has been spewing from “politicians”, the media outlets and armchair facebook trolls. I try not to involve politics into our little magazine that could – but this year it seems increasingly hard to stay out of the fray – or at least have an opinion. Which I suppose, as Americans, we are certainly entitled to. I will refrain from using this forum from giving my own opinions, further than what you could glean from what I’ve already written – and try to put a positive spin on the fact that at least we can go into this holiday with the knowledge that when our forefathers signed the infamous “Declaration”, little did they know what varying degrees of opinions they would unleash in future generations – and with that “Declaration” gave us the right to have them. So when you set out with your sparklers, try to think hard about what this country really stands for – it’s stands for the right to the pursuit of happiness, with life, liberty and justice for all. And also the right to go to the theater, go explore different parts of where this country was born, enjoy art, revel in the magic that is summer in New England! We are on vacation – hooray! Look for our next issue dated July 20-August 2nd coming soon! Thanks for reading. Ann Marie LeMiere - Editor

This All-In-One Adventure Park Will Thrill Your Whole Family, Rain Or Shine! We all know New England weather is unpredictable. That’s why I was so excited to come across Surf’s Up & SkyVenture NH! This place is serious about fun. The state-of-the-art facility has four unique attractions for all ages. Indoor skydiving and surfing are the premier activities for thrill seekers. As long as they’re potty trained, kids ages 3+ can fly and 5+ can surf! The facility itself is gorgeous. As you walk into the lobby you are overwhelmed by the sight and sound of the wind tunnel. On one side, you can see first-time flyers floating in the chamber and being spun up to the top with their instructor, and on the other, you can see surfers shredding the 2’ wave while their friends sip on smoothies under live palm trees. Surf’s Up is a real hidden gem, decorated with authentic Hawaiian tikis, and hand-crafted wooden furniture. The Oasis Café is a tiki-style bar right inside Surf’s Up. This area is also home to two other attractions – an exquisitely realistic 24’ rock wall with auto belays, and the Fishpipe – a spinning water ride simulating the world’s longest water slide! A great facility is one thing, buy what really sets this place apart are the attractions and the staff. Each activity is preceded by a class where one of the friendly instructors will help even the timid feel ready and excited to fly or surf! There is nothing like the feeling of floating in the wind tunnel for the first time. The best part is definitely the Fly High, where the instructor spins you up higher into the wind tunnel! On weekday nights, you can watch skydivers practicing tricks, too! Surfing here is the most realistic you can find outside of the ocean. It’s perfect for those who don’t want to paddle for waves all day or dodge sharks, but want to really learn to surf. And, if you come on a Saturday night, sometimes you can see local pro surfers and wakeboarders shredding the 6’ barrel wave! If you are looking for something exciting to do this summer, check out Surf’s Up & SkyVenture NH! They recommend reservations, so make sure you call ahead! Spend an hour, or spend the day! The Oasis Café serves great pizza, salads, wraps – and there’s a bar, too! Bring on the Margaritas! Check out their new referral and loyalty program. Use code below to get $15.00 off a surf session. Share it with your friends, and when they redeem the voucher, you get a $10 credit to use towards any of the facility’s activities! Go to http://rfrz.us/bybhcptl or scan QR code in ad to claim coupon.

Boston, MA – June 1, 2016 - Boston Harborfest is receiving a rebranding as it prepares to mark its 35th anniversary. In addition to its strong tradition of celebrating Boston’s historic role as the Cradle of Liberty, this year’s program features a renewed focus on Boston’s maritime history. Several new activities are planned in and around Boston Harbor from July 1st to 4th. This year’s celebration aims to put more “harbor” in Harborfest. New events, to complement the historic component of the four-day celebration, include live performances of the great American songbook in Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park followed by a patriotic film screening, a maritime arts festival and wet paint auction, Taste of Harborfest on Long Wharf, live music on Columbus Park and Long Wharf, and a spectacular fireworks display. Faneuil Hall will host the 35th Annual Boston Harborfest Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 1st at 11:30am. Crowds will enjoy a marching band, short speeches by city officials, and the official cutting of the Harborfest Cake! The City of Boston will also welcome a US Navy San Antonioclass ship to Boston Harbor for the weekend. To provide a warm welcome for the crew, there will be several naval events including an evening concert on Long Wharf to view the fireworks on Saturday, July 2nd. Harborfest has partnered with many of Boston’s historical landmarks to offer visitors and residents alike a number of fun, family-friendly activities. From walking tours to harbor cruises, the city’s strong community collaborates on the largest Independence Day festival in the country! For more Harborfest information and a complete list of activities, please visit http://www.bostonharborfest.com
