We are finally ushering in the first few days of summer; that means an array of great outdoor activities for those of you who love the sun, heat, sand in unnameable places, mosquitoes and sunburns. I guess you know where I stand on going to the beach! I’ll take a good air conditioned theater any day! However, I know that a good number of you do enjoy spending time outside in the summer months, so we aim to please both sides of the summer aisle! Looking for a great outdoor spot where you can get your cool, vintage shopping on? Check out the Vintage Bazaar, our cover advertiser offers a huge variety of goods that will satisfy even the quirkiest of shoppers – and you get to shop on a farm! Pettengill Farm in Salisbury is where this magic happens. Father’s Day is also happening, it’s on Sunday, June 19. If you feel like treating Dear Old to something different – you can always make him feel like a kid again by taking him to see Peter Pan at the BCA nothing like making Dad feel special by reminding him he did grow up! That’s a good thing, if he didn’t, where would we be? We hope you can find an adventure of your own in these two weeks – either in our pages, or in your imagination, find happiness where you can! Thanks for reading. Ann Marie LeMiere - Editor

Mount Washington Cog Railway, 147 Years and Counting! The Mount Washington Cog Railway, the World’s first mountain-climbing cog railway, is now open for its 147th season bringing passengers to the summit of the Northeast’s highest peak. The historic railway is considered a must-do adventure for visitors to New England. As part of each 3-hour round trip on the Cog, passengers spend about an hour on the summit, where those ticket holders get free admission to the new summit weather museum created by the Mount Washington Observatory. The exhibit provides a fascinating look at the extremes of winter on Mount Washington, all from the comfort of an interactive exhibit located in the lower level of the Sherman Adams Visitors Center. This year marks the 150th birthday of Peppersass, the locomotive that built the railway. The Cog will be offering some new events in celebration of the anniversary. July 15 and 16 marks the first annual Handcrafted Fest at The Cog. The League of NH Craftsmen, NH Handmade, and WREN exhibiters will be featuring their fine Granite-state products. On Saturday, August 20, The Cog will host its first ever Steampunk Festival. Steampunk is a melding of the Victorian age fused with modern technology in a Wild Wild West style for a colorful and exciting event. Starting Memorial weekend, the Cog will be firing up its vintage steam trains, and will be running the steamer as the first train up the mountain throughout the season on scheduled days. Beginning June 19, everyone saves with $15 off their ticket on the last train on most days. Even this Fall, passengers can save with a $10 discount beginning in September. Discounts are not available during Holiday periods. Throughout the season on select dates, photojournalism workshops are offered, giving participants access to a professional writer and photographer for a fun day of touring the summit. The details on the train schedule, special offerings and discounts can be found online. Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets for Cog Railway excursions can now be purchased online at www.TheCog. com or by phone at 603.278.5404. The Cog offers round-trip tickets as well as one-way options going both up or down for hikers. Also available and popular with hikers, is a Cogger Pass, offering unlimited biodiesel train trips throughout the season. The Cog is located at Marshfield Base Station on Base Road, Mount Washington, NH just 6 miles off route 302 near Historic Bretton Woods. Boston Harborfest Boston, MA – June 1, 2016 - Boston Harborfest is receiving a rebranding as it prepares to mark its 35th anniversary. In addition to its strong tradition of celebrating Boston’s historic role as the Cradle of Liberty, this year’s program features a renewed focus on Boston’s maritime history. Several new activities are planned in and around Boston Harbor from July 1st to 4th. This year’s celebration aims to put more “harbor” in Harborfest. New events, to complement the historic component of the four-day celebration, include live performances of the great American songbook in Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park followed by a patriotic film screening, a maritime arts festival and wet paint auction, Taste of Harborfest on Long Wharf, live music on Columbus Park and Long Wharf, and a spectacular fireworks display. Faneuil Hall will host the 35th Annual Boston Harborfest Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 1st at 11:30am. Crowds will enjoy a marching band, short speeches by city officials, and the official cutting of the Harborfest Cake! The City of Boston will also welcome a US Navy San Antonioclass ship to Boston Harbor for the weekend. To provide a warm welcome for the crew, there will be several naval events including an evening concert on Long Wharf to view the fireworks on Saturday, July 2nd. Harborfest has partnered with many of Boston’s historical landmarks to offer visitors and residents alike a number of fun, family-friendly activities. From walking tours to harbor cruises, the city’s strong community collaborates on the largest Independence Day festival in the country! For more Harborfest information and a complete list of activities, please visit http://www.bostonharborfest.com
