Welcome Dear Members, Happy New Year to you and your families! As I come up on my oneyear anniversary at Wexford, I want to thank the owners and leadership team for a warm welcome, support and trust in me to lead this wonderful club and community. I am very proud of the accomplishments in 2021 and would like to thank the Board of Directors, Committee Volunteers, Leadership team and staff for a successful and productive year. In 2022, I look forward to further advancing the Wexford Facilities Plan with the Board of Directors and Committee Volunteers. We hosted several focus groups and a town hall meeting in 2021 and I look forward to continuing these meetings in 2022 as well as reviewing the Facilities Plan survey to develop a final proposal for the owners to review. The 5-year Golf Course Master plan is equally important and will provide a road map to ensure we continue to have a focus on protecting and enhancing one of the major assets at Wexford, our golf course. Please know that the Wexford leadership team and staff continues to strive daily to create great experiences and quality amenities

at Wexford. In an environment that has many moving parts, numerous human interactions, and a culture where we are willing to take risks in order to excel, we have to expect that there will be opportunities along the way. Continuous improvement requires continuous feedback — candid, timely, honest, and constructive. I appreciate and value your feedback and welcome any suggestions for additional or unique events or programs. I am always available to listen and learn. See you at the Club!

Regards,

Ryan

Letter from the Board President Hello Neighbors,

get a fun kickstart for all Committee volunteers and bring alignment to our purpose!

A year ago in January 2021, the Board established as its top directive the following: “to ensure the success of Wexford’s new COO, Ryan Spence, in the transition year.”

5-Year Master Golf Plan

In keeping with presentations by Ryan Spence and David Jackson at the Annual Meeting Vince Sullivan on December 10, results were President exceptional in almost every functional and financial metric. Further, the 2021 Annual Meeting was one of the best-ever — succinct, informative presentations, strong attendance and solid candidates selected to the Board. Stephen Carter, Lynn Looby, and Harry Mellon will be a great asset to continue Wexford’s positive momentum.

NEXT PLAY 2022 Maintaining and advancing progress in 2022 is paramount for the Board. As such, we will try to communicate priorities clearly in that regard. Some of our Q1 Initiatives are: Committee Selection and Communication January 10 — Committee selection, Board Orientation and presentations to the board on the Facility Plan by Architect JC Chi January 28 — Board of Directors Meeting, all Wexford members welcome, formal approval of Committees

Chris Neff, Director of Greens & Grounds, will present his action ideas to the community in a town hall style meeting. Chris will be joined by Arnold Palmer Golf and Aspire Golf consulting representatives. Ideas are interesting, exciting, and timely for all members to participate. Chris is working on a time and date for this meeting based on the availability of both the Palmer Golf and Aspire representatives. More to come on timing. Facilities Plan As part of the strategic plan adopted by the Board of Directors last year, the Facilities Plan underpins our amenities improvements. We will hold a follow up Town Hall with updated process steps and next actions. Also, we will have smaller “Meet and Greet” sessions to facilitate information updates and exchanges with members. Following the success of these meetings, we anticipate bringing the Facilities Plan to a vote in May.

CULTURE THOUGHTS Essential to Wexford’s success is fostering a culture of caring and helpfulness throughout the community. At the Board level it’s important to support the community with a can-do approach, team first attitude, and an aligned Board. Special thanks to all Wexford staff and members that continue to make Wexford the best place to live and work on Hilton Head!

Track Your Stats As we kick off the New Year, this is a great time to evaluate all areas of your golf game. Whether you are playing with your weekly group, or just playing a few holes by yourself, keep track of these 4 key statistics: Fairways Hit, Greens in Regulation (on the green putting for birdie), Putts Per Hole, and Scrambling. Scrambling is simply if we miss the green are we successfully getting the ball in the hole within 2 strokes. After 7 to 10 rounds, evaluate your stats and identify which areas of your game require the most practice time. The results may be expected or unexpected, but an important component for player development is to recognize our weaknesses and turn them into strengths.

Festival of Harbour Lights & Tree Lighting

On a beautiful Sunday evening, the annual Festival of Harbour Lights and Wexford Christmas tree lighting heralded the official beginning of the holiday season. The festivities started at 5:00pm with attendees strolling among the unlit boats while enjoying a cocktail of their choice. The pool deck was adorned with a beautiful coastal theme Christmas tree decorated by Wexford elves, the fire pits were lit and the pool bar was open for business. What a perfect way to kick off the holidays!

Wexford Foundation News

Wexford Foundation Supports Community Since its inception in 2012, the Wexford Foundation has granted well over $1,600,000 to local charities as the result of Wexford members’ generous donations and their support of fundraising events. Each year over 30 well-deserving charities receive grants to enhance their ability to deliver services to local neighbors who need affordable housing, nutritional food, healthcare and education. The Foundation also steps in when emergency needs require fast action, such as the COVID pandemic and the sudden food, housing and healthcare shortages which resulted. In addition, the Foundation funds Major Impact Grants that can create transformational changes in the way that charities serve their clients. For example, the Foundation granted funds to Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head for much needed dental and x-ray equipment and to The Children’s Center for security equipment to protect young lives. Major Impact Grants to Hopeful Horizons helped to fund a major new facility in Bluffton and also enabled them to make significant renovations to the dining facilities in their domestic and child abuse shelter in Beaufort. Cyber Safety Tips

I

wanted to take this month to send a basic reminder for cyber-crime prevention, as we continue to expand our knowledge and usage of computers. It is easier than you think to protect yourself and your data from Cyber Crime. So, I drew on some information and here are some reminders but consult a professional if you really want to lock the Cyber criminals out.

COMPUTER SAFETY Use different user ID / strong password combinations for different accounts and avoid writing them down unless needed, then place the information in a different secured location. Make the passwords more complicated by combining letters, numbers, or special characters and change them on a regular basis. Secure your computer and activate your security system – Firewalls are the first line of cyber defense; they block connections to unknown or bogus sites and keep out viruses and hackers. To help prevent viruses from infecting your computer install and regularly update anti-virus software. Block spyware attacks and prevent spyware from infiltrating your computer by installing and updating anti-spyware software.

ONLINE SAFETY

The Club Times • 14

Be Social-Media Savvy by making sure your social networking profiles, or the kids networking (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) are set to private. Also, be mindful of what information is being posted online, and always monitor who your child is communicating with outside of family and friends. Protect your data and information by using encryption for your most sensitive files such as tax returns or financial records. Make regular back-ups of all your important data and store it in another location. Secure your wireless networks that

are vulnerable to intrusion if not properly secured by modifying the default settings. So, remember, public Wi-Fi (Hot Spots) are very vulnerable, and you should avoid conducting financial transactions on these networks. Be cautious when giving out personal information such as your name, address, phone number or financial information on the Internet. Also make sure that websites are secure when making online purchases, or that you have enabled privacy settings. Avoid being a victim by thinking through the process before you click on a link or file of unknown origin. You should never feel pressured by any emails. Check the sources of the message, and when in doubt, verify the source. Never reply to emails that ask you to verify your information or confirm your user identification or password. If you become the victim of a computer crime, or identity theft, immediately contact the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office or the local law enforcement agency where you are located.

Stay safe,

Chief Morrison

South Island PSD Smoke Testing scheduled for January 24

During the smoke test, Wexford residents could see smoke coming from the sewers and ground. Smoke should not enter homes; however, do not be alarmed if it does and if so open doors and windows to ventilate the area. If smoke does enter your home from the inside (basement drains, etc.), please contact South Island PSD directly to find out if there is a sewer connection problem. More information will be provided as it becomes available. If you have additional questions or concerns, please email info@wexfordhiltonhead.com.

15 • The Club Times

South Island PSD will be conducting a smoke check to find sewer leaks on Hilton Head Island in 2022. Wexford’s smoke check is scheduled for January 24, 2022. Smoke testing is a relatively simple process that consists of blowing smoke mixed with large volumes of air into the sanitary sewer line. The smoke travels the path of least resistance and quickly shows up at sites that allow surface water inflow. Smoke will identify broken manholes, illegal connections including roof drains, sump pumps and yard drains, uncapped lines and even will show cracked mains and laterals, providing there is a passageway for the smoke to travel to the surface. In preparation, we encourage residents to run water faucets for a few seconds in unused sinks, tubs and drains in order to fill fixture traps and pour a gallon of water in open drain traps, basement bathrooms and floor drains to prevent smoke from entering the house. On the day of the testing, residents can expect to see smoke throughout the community. The odorless, colorless simulated smoke will NOT cause a fire or explosion and isn’t hazardous or flammable. This “smoke” is similar to what you see at concerts and other live events.
