What is the “We’ve Got Your Back” Life Skills for Student Safety Program?
We’ve Got Your Back™ (WGYB) is a trauma-informed, mindfulnessbased safety curriculum designed for Grades Pre-K through 12th. WGYB develops emotional resilience, situational awareness, readiness, and skills for real-world decision-making during times of crisis. With engaging, age-appropriate, and non-traumatizing content, the program empowers students to act with confidence and care.
➮ACTION STEP: Schedule a leadership overview session to explore how WGYB can become a cornerstone of your school’s safety and wellness initiative.
What’s new in WGYB Version 2.0?
Version 2.0 introduces a WGYB digital-first subscription model that increases program accessibility and ease of use. The updated system includes:
• Digital Access Key for educator training and animated safety content.
• Interactive Flipbooks: Formative Assessment Guide, Teacher Guide, Administrator Guide, editable Parent Letter, and Press Release templates.
• New Engagement Tools: Over 20 new student and family resources.
• Home School, Family Bundle, and Afterschool options.
• Optional Add-ons: Classroom-ready toolkits and resource bundles in both print and digital formats.
➮ACTION STEP: Choose the subscription tier that aligns with your schools, afterschool, homeschool, or home needs, and designate a site leader for streamlined access management.
WGYB is developmentally aligned across grade bands:
• Pre-K–3rd Grade: Teacher-facing and teacher-led.
• 4–8th Grade: Teacher-facing and teacher-led (original format).
• NEW 6–8th Grade Option: Student-facing and student-led with guided teacher follow-up.
• 9–12th Grade: Fully student-facing with flexible teacher facilitation.
➮ACTION STEP: Pilot the student-led model in one classroom before schoolwide implementation to evaluate engagement and impact.
WGYB includes training to support successful implementation across all staff roles:
• Crisis Response Training: Lockdowns, evacuations, reverse evacuations, and school command post basics.
• Curriculum Implementation Training: For classroom delivery, pacing, and classroom integration.
• Family Engagement and School Climate Training: For counselors, liaisons, and school leaders.
• WGYB Training for Parents: For homeschools and for parents who want the option of having additional resources at home to engage and empower families.
➮ACTION STEP: Schedule role-specific training during staff development days or Professional Development time.
WGYB integrates safety, wellness, and resilience through topics such as:
• Emotional intelligence for safety, situational awareness, and threat recognition.
• Options-based response (evacuate, barricade, self-evacuate).
• Mindfulness, emotional regulation, and self-care.
• Practical decision-making skills under stress.
• SEL-aligned instruction with Common Core academic links.
➮ACTION STEP: Pair WGYB lessons with your school’s SEL, PBIS, wellness programs, or afterschool programs for greater student impact.
Lesson timeframes are designed for flexible implementation:
• Pre-K–3rd Grade: 7 lessons, 30–45 minutes each.
• 4–8th Grade: 4 Core lessons + optional 10-minute refreshers.
• 9–12th Grade: Flexible digital content + teacher-guided reflection.
• Monthly 10-minute refreshers and formative assessments.
• 15, 20, 35, and 35 minute options.
➮ACTION STEP: Insert WGYB lessons into homeroom, advisory, health, or social studies classes.
The WGYB program is flexible and can be implemented in a timeframe best for your school climate, however, we recommend launching WGYB within the first 20 school days, followed by monthly refresher activities. This model promotes habit formation for life skills, brain script development for safety, and student readiness.
➮ACTION STEP: Integrate WGYB into your annual safety and wellness calendar.
Absolutely. All content is designed by educators and trauma experts to be developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, and emotionally safe. WGYB is trauma-informed; students learn to respond—not react— in high-stress scenarios while implementing mindful self-care.
➮ACTION STEP: Invite your MTSS or wellness team to review and align WGYB sample content with your trauma-informed school practices.
WGYB promotes readiness through empowerment—not fear—by building the 5Cs: Consciousness, Compassion, Confidence, Courage, and Community. Unlike traditional drills that emphasize compliance, WGYB builds personal agency, decisionmaking skills, and promotes a calm, prepared mindset. Students learn what to do and why—before a crisis occurs, and there are no surprises!
➮ACTION STEP: Share this approach during school board presentations and parent engagement events.
