T
here are a number of ways people can reach out into the community. One of the ways we do that at Westside is with food. Two of our Outreach Teams focus on, not only providing nutrition for the soul, but also the body. One focus of the Outreach Team is serving alongside 541: Eatery and Exchange on Barton Street. The Eatery and Exchange provides great food at a reasonable price for the low income community in that neighbourhood. For over a year, Westside has been sending a Life Group to 541 each month to be a part

of hundreds of volunteers that serve there. A typical night serving at 541 includes having a delicious meal together, spending time cleaning, and then finishing the night in prayer and song. It is exciting to be a part of the amazing work they are doing in the Barton Street community. Another focus of the Outreach Team is serving here at home. Our Hospitality Team comes alongside other Westside programs to supplement with food and beverage. The Hospitality Team’s goal is to make everyone feel welcome by providing good food and fellowship.
Since September, the number of volunteers on the Hospitality Team has exploded. There are many roles a Hospitality Team member fulfills including baking, setting up, serving food, and cleaning up for the next great event. We are told to use our gifts, whatever gifts those might be, to serve one another. There are lots of ways to do this, and one way is through food.
