WPGA Summer Programs are exciting, educational and FUN! Programs are age-appropriate and include skimboarding, sports, robotics, animation, cooking, tennis, crafts, science and wilderness survival. For program schedules, descriptions and registration, visit wpga.ca/summerprograms.


Program Information Program Weeks • June 25–29 • July 3–6 • July 9–13 • July 16–20 • July 23–27

Program Times & Pricing • Half Day: $200 (9am–12pm and 1pm–4pm) *The Dolphin, Golf and Young Speakers programs are $230 per half day camp. • Full Day: $350 (Combine a morning and afternoon program in the same week and save $50) • Lunch is not provided. Children are supervised during lunch and escorted to their afternoon programs. • Before/After Care: $40 per week (8am-9am and 4pm-5pm). Daily rate is $10 half day and $20 full day.

What Should I Pack? • A backpack that your child is able to carry themselves. The backpack should include a full water bottle, snacks and a sun hat. • Parents should apply sunscreen on their children prior to arrival. If reapplication is required, please pack sunscreen and connect with the program instructor at drop-off. • For our youngest participants, please pack a change of clothes.

Full-Day Programs • Children should pack a healthy, nut-free lunch. • Children enrolled in a full day of programs are supervised at lunch (Early Childhood Education Centre and Art Room for younger participants; Dining Hall for older participants) and on the playground after lunch before being escorted to their afternoon camp.


Program Information A to Z Programs (3½–5 years) • To enroll, children must turn 4 in the 2018 calendar year (born in 2014). They must also be able to communicate their basic needs in English and use the bathroom independently.

Programs that Include Swimming (indicated if the program is called “___ & Swim”) • • • •

Children will be in the water for 30 minutes of free play. Children must bring a bathing suit, towel and goggles. Changing is supervised. Participants who wish to swim without a lifejacket will be assessed first by our lifeguards. • If your child is unable to swim, alternate activities will be offered.

Off-Campus Programs (Mega Fun, Skimboarding, Golf, Sand Castle Crusaders and Wilderness Survival) • Participants will be transported to venues in WPGA school buses by Class 4 drivers and WPGA teachers. • Off-campus programs are led by experienced instructors with access to first aid equipment. • If children use a booster seat, parents are asked to label it and give it to the program instructor.

Program Policies • For cancellations with more than 24 hours from the start of the first class, a $25 processing fee applies (refund less $25). • For cancellations with less than 24 hours from the start of the first class, there are no refunds. • For sessions missed due to illness, a WPGA Summer Programs credit is offered. • WPGA retains the right to cancel programs because of low enrollment. • Children must be able to communicate their basic needs in English in order to enroll.

Week 1: June 25–29 | Morning Programs (9am-12pm) A to Z Under the Sea | Ages 3½ to 5*

Build It! Maker Camp | Ages 5 to 8

Dive into an underwater world! Explore the wonder in our oceans, create shark and jellyfish crafts, and learn about sea creatures big and small, all with an A-B-C twist for emerging readers. A to Z programs are led by certified teachers and take place in our Early Childhood Education Centre, specifically designed to accommodate our littlest learners. *Children must turn 4 in the 2018 calendar year.

Use mounds and mounds of Lego, upcycled items, food, ooey gooeys, plasticine, natural materials and more loose parts to build, combine, take apart and experiment. Build things that roll, tower, launch, slime, crash, and make mom and dad say, “Did YOU make that?”

Dino Diggers | Ages 4 to 6 Make dino bones, dig up fossils and do the Dinosaur Dance! Learn about the giants that once roamed our planet through stories, songs, crafts and creative play. Become a pint-size paleontologist for a fun-filled week.

Multisport & Swim | Ages 5 to 9 All sports, all the time! Play sports galore including soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball, basketball, tennis, water polo and lacrosse. Cooperative games with hula hoops, the Imagination Station, bean bags, a parachute, bowling pins and rolling boards round out this active outdoor program focused on age-appropriate motor development. Includes lifeguard- supervised swims in the WPGA pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and goggles.

Wizards and Wands | Ages 4 to 6 Calling all wizards, princesses, dwarves, knights and castle builders. Come to the royal ball, read about fighting dragons, go on epic quests and even host a tea party! Explore all the animal friends found in fairy tales and create your very own sidekick.

Innovative Thinking by Dolphin KIDS | Ages 6 to 9 Creativity is the #1 skill for future leaders! Think, create and build in this hands-on innovation camp! Participate in invention activities that build creativity, criticalthinking and communication skills. This program uses the POD method: indoor and outdoor Play, social skills development with Others, and Downtime such as yoga, mindfulness, gratitude and optimism. Become an innovator during this fun-filled week!

Crafty Kids & Swim | Ages 6 to 12

Robotics & Swim | Ages 8 to 13

Craftiness is happiness. Follow your passions, whether football or fashion, to create one-of-a-kind personalized projects. There is no better feeling than completing a project on your own, such as bath products, towering castles, beaded jewelry, canvas creations, papier maché sculptures and much more. Includes lifeguard-supervised swims in the WPGA pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and goggles.

Engineer your own Lego robot and then teach it to do your bidding using computer software. Design obstacle courses to stump your friends’ Mindstorm robots! Includes lifeguard-supervised swims in the WPGA pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and goggles.

Musical Theatre | Ages 6 to 12 Learn to shine on stage! Practice singing, dancing and acting to become a true triple threat. Work with one of WPGA’s music teachers under the lights in our drama room. Families are invited to an amazing performance at the end of the week.

TEDx Presentations by Dolphin KIDS | Ages 9 to 12 Research a topic of interest, practice your communication skills, manage stage fight and create an engaging TEDx style presentation! Learn public-speaking tips and tricks to build speaking skills with interactive activities and coaching. Through the POD method, participants develop critical thinking and creativity through include indoor and outdoor Play, advanced social skills through collaboration with Others, and wellness tools of positive thinking, gratitude and optimism through mindfulness (Downtime).

Mega Fun | Ages 6 to 12 The annual favourite returns! Lazer tag, bowling, waterpark adventures, mini-golf—this is the ultimate high-energy, off-campus adventure camp. Students will be transported to a different activity every day in our song-filled school buses. Come along for the ride!

Junior Fundamentals Tennis | Ages 7 to 11 Summer Smash Tennis serves up the fun at WPGA! Beginners are introduced to tennis through high-energy, game-based lessons that use the progressive tennis model. The program focuses on inspiring a love for the game while building a strong technical foundation.

French with Friends | Ages 5 to 9

Ahoy, mates! Follow maps to dig for golden treasures, craft costumes and make your own parrot sidekick. Explore the science behind sinking, floating and sail boats. Become an underwater naturalist as you learn about ocean inhabitants. Land-lubbers welcome!

Bonjour, mes amis! Learn French basics, play games from France and Quebec, bake delicious French treats such as croissants and, best of all, make new friends. This program is designed to introduce French in an engaging manner and solidify foundational French vocabulary. À bientôt!

Skimboarding | Ages 6 to 12

Red Cross Babysitting | Ages 11 to 15

Everything’s better on the beach! Learn to skimboard and build an arsenal of tricks such as 180s, 360s, shove-its and ollie airs. Suitable for beginners, this program will also challenge those who are comfortable on a board. Between skim sessions, play beach soccer, volleyball, Ultimate and Capture the Flag—even have a sandcastle competition! Skimboards provided.

Earn Canadian Red Cross babysitting certification by learning basic first-aid, kid-friendly activities and emergency preparedness. This course equips participants with the skills to be safe and independent when home alone and to effectively care for other children. Taught by a Red Cross-certified instructor.

Mini Aces Tennis | Ages 4 to 6 Cookies & Canvas | Ages 6 to 12 “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” – Maya Angelou. This program combines creativity in the kitchen and in the art room. Bake scrumptious treats, create collages, paint, and explore multimedia materials. Get messy, yummy and inventive!

Learn tennis basics in this fundamental movement and tennis camp. In the energetic and enthusiastic environment, have fun developing jumping, throwing, catching, and racquet skills. Between tennis play, practice yoga and art activities in the shade for fine motor skill development.

Junior Aces Tennis | Ages 8 to 13 Video Game Creator & Swim | Ages 8 to 13 Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to create the illusion of motion using your artistic skills. Projects incorporate methods such as flipbooks, zoetropes and stop motion animation. If you love to draw, this camp will make your doodles come to life! Includes lifeguard-supervised swims in the WPGA pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and goggles.

Summer Smash Tennis serves up the fun at WPGA! Start or continue to develop skills through high-energy, game-based lessons that use the progressive tennis model. The emphasis is on building a strong technical foundation and developing strategy and point play. Beginner and intermediate levels welcome.

Love machines that fly, honk, chug, dig, race and zoom? Explore all things transportation in this program, which has an A-B-C twist for emerging readers. A to Z programs are led by certified teachers and take place in our Early Childhood Education Centre, specifically designed to accommodate our littlest learners. *Children must turn 4 in the 2018 calendar year.

This action-packed camp includes hero training (hero stunts and dance moves), creating your own superhero, making your own mask and cape, and “save the universe” obstacle courses. This is no ordinary camp for ordinary kids; this camp is for HEROES!

Paints, Poses & Pages | Ages 4 to 6 Get those hands covered in paint, chalk, pastels and more! Bend, balance, and stretch into tree pose, downward dog and other mindful movements, then read and discuss award-winning children’s books. Engaging every aspect of a child’s development, this thoughtfully designed program is a triple threat of fun.

S.T.E.A.Mers by Dolphin KIDS | Ages 6 to 9

Wilderness Survival | Ages 7 to 12

Explore coding, test out science experiments and participate in architecture challenges! This program uses the POD method: indoor and outdoor Play, social skills development with Others, and Downtime such as yoga, mindfulness, gratitude and optimism. Become a scientist during this fun-filled week!

In this outdoor adventure camp, learn to build an emergency shelter, navigate using a map and compass, employ the principles of camouflage and concealment, light a fire and even purify water without the use of a filtration system! Hike through the endowment lands, explore WPGA’s own urban forest, filter water at the beach and dive head first into nature. Off-campus travel in the WPGA school bus for minimum three days of the week.

Through writing exercises, games, debate and presentations, learn how to win an argument respectfully and collaboratively. This program uses the POD method: outdoor Play, social skills development with Others, and Downtime wellness tools of yoga, mindfulness, gratitude and optimism.

Led by a certified elementary teacher with extensive training in primary literacy, space is limited to ensure one-on-one instruction coupled with small group activities.

Mini Olympics | Ages 4 to 6

Multisport & Swim | Ages 5 to 9

Run, jump, throw! Build a torch for the relay, hoist your flag for the Olympic ceremony, sing anthems and learn about summer and winter events. Featuring individual sports and cooperative, team-building activities, this program is ideal for active children working on developing gross motor skills.

Imagine That! | Ages 4 to 6 Our imaginations are limitless. Fly to the moon, dive to the bottom of the ocean, travel through time, maybe even become invisible! The power of imagination in child development is well documented. Children will dream, create, pretend and grow in this camp that stretches the boundaries of reality through imaginative play.

Sand Castle Crusaders | Ages 6 to 12 Sand, surf and sun: the three main elements of summer! Opportunities to skimboard, build enormous sand castles, play cooperative games (beach soccer, beach volleyball, beach spike ball) and comb the beach for treasures will fill sunny afternoons. Travel daily to Jericho beach in our WPGA bus to experience everything the beach has to offer.

Musical Theatre | Ages 6 to 12

Golf at Musqueam Golf Academy | Ages 8 to 14

Learn to shine on stage! Practice singing, dancing and acting to become a true triple threat. Work with one of WPGA’s music teachers under the lights in our drama room. Families are invited to an amazing performance at the end of the week.

Learn golf in a fun and safe environment. Our program aims to provide participants golf fundamentals, including chipping, putting, bunker play, etiquette and strategy, through game play and skill challenges. Golfers will take 2-hour lessons at Musqueam Golf and Learning Academy (transportation by WPGA bus) and enjoy some fun on the mini golf course before lessons.

Minecraft & Swim | Ages 7 to 13 As a castaway in a new land, build your own world surrounded by friends. Have fun exploring your new environment to find resources and collaborate to take on multiple challenges to refine your building techniques. Serious gamers and newbies welcome. Includes lifeguardsupervised swims in the WPGA pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and goggles.

The Entrepreneur Mindset by Dolphin KIDS | Ages 9 to 12 Bring your business ideas to life in this hands-on entrepreneur camp. Practice creativity and critical-thinking skills by designing, testing and pitching your innovative ideas in a “Dragon’s Den” style presentation. This program uses the POD method: creative skills through indoor and outdoor Play, advanced social skills through collaboration with Others, and wellness skills (Downtime) of positive thinking, gratitude, mindfulness and optimism.

Put on your chef hat and get ready to make delicious sweet and savoury treats. As baking is both a science and an art, in this fun foodie camp, our mini chefs will learn the basics of baking, create tasty dishes and leave ready to tackle the next batch of bake sale cookies on their own!

Golf at Musqueam Golf Academy | Ages 8 to 14

The annual favourite returns! Lazer tag, bowling, waterpark adventures, mini-golf—this is the ultimate high-energy, off-campus adventure camp. Participants will be transported to a different activity every day in our songfilled school buses. Come along for the ride!

Learn golf in a fun and safe environment. Our program aims to provide participants golf fundamentals, including chipping, putting, bunker play, etiquette and strategy, through game play and skill challenges. Golfers will take 2-hour lessons at Musqueam Golf and Learning Academy (transportation by WPGA bus) and enjoy some fun on the mini golf course before lessons.

Chocoholics & Swim | Ages 6 to 12 For this sweet adventure, the only requirement is that you LOVE chocolate! Learn about, bake with, paint with, play with and, of course, EAT chocolate in many of its amazing forms. Each participant will receive a chocolatier hat as well as chocolate treats to take home every day. Includes lifeguard-supervised swims in the WPGA pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and goggles.

Mini Aces Tennis | Ages 4 to 6 Learn tennis basics in this fundamental movement and tennis camp. In the energetic and enthusiastic environment, have fun developing jumping, throwing, catching, and racquet skills. Between tennis play, practice yoga and art activities in the shade for fine motor skill development.

Minecraft & Swim | Ages 7 to 13 As a castaway in a new land, build your own world surrounded by friends. Have fun exploring your new environment to find resources and collaborate to take on multiple challenges to refine your building techniques. Serious gamers and newbies welcome. Includes lifeguardsupervised swims in the WPGA pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and goggles.

Junior Aces Tennis | Ages 8 to 13 Summer Smash Tennis serves up the fun at WPGA! Start or continue to develop skills through high-energy, game-based lessons that use the progressive tennis model. The emphasis is on building a strong technical foundation and developing strategy and point play. Beginner and intermediate levels welcome.

Play “space” games, make rocket ships and aliens, learn about the moon and stars, discover our solar system’s planets and pretend to be astronauts, all with an A-B-C twist for emerging readers. A to Z programs are led by certified teachers and take place in our Early Childhood Education Centre, specifically designed to accommodate our littlest learners. *Children must turn 4 in the 2018 calendar year.

A-B-C, a great reader I am going to be! Summer is the best time to read, read, read. Play engaging literacy games with sight word recognition, rhyming, vocabulary building and fun phonics activities to strengthen reading skills. Led by a certified elementary teacher with extensive training in primary literacy, space is limited to ensure one-on-one instruction coupled with small group activities.

Connect with Confidence by Young Speakers | Ages 8 to 11 This program by Young Speakers helps participants build confidence, develop strategies to overcome their fears, express themselves confidently and engage an audience. In a safe, fun environment, participants will learn the essentials of public speaking, practice and deliver speeches, and get feedback from experienced facilitators. Handouts will be provided for all lessons; a certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the week.

Crafty Kids & Swim | Ages 6 to 12 Craftiness is happiness. Follow your passions, whether football or fashion, to create one-of-a-kind personalized projects. There is no better feeling than completing a project on your own, such as bath products, towering castles, beaded jewelry, canvas creations, papier maché sculptures and much more. Explore your favourite comic book heroes and villains! This action-packed camp includes hero training (hero stunts and dance moves), creating your own superhero, making your own mask and cape, and “save the universe” obstacle courses. This is no ordinary camp for ordinary kids; this camp is for HEROES!

Shoot rockets, toss eggs off the top floor of the school and get those hands dirty. Engineering, goo creations, Mentos + cola, balloon experiments, baking soda volcanoes and much more. Learn scientific principles through testing, touching and tasting!

Show off your wild and wacky talents and build a few more! Drama, singing, dancing, joke-telling, magic, even building extreme dominoes—no talent is left behind. Not sure what your talent is? Our wonderful instructors will help you discover it. Special talent show for families on the last day.

Earn Canadian Red Cross babysitting certification by learning basic first-aid, kid-friendly activities and emergency preparedness. This course equips participants with the skills to be safe and independent when home alone and to effectively care for other children. Taught by a Red Cross-certified instructor.

Everything’s better on the beach! Learn to skimboard and build an arsenal of tricks such as 180s, 360s, shove-its and ollie airs. Suitable for beginners, this program will also challenge those who are comfortable on a board. Bonjour, mes amis! Learn French basics, play games from France and Quebec, bake delicious French treats such as croissants and, best of all, make new friends. This program is designed to introduce French in an engaging manner and solidify foundational French vocabulary. À bientôt!

The Entrepreneur Mindset by Dolphin KIDS | Ages 9 to 12 Bring your business ideas to life in this hands-on entrepreneur camp.
