West Hartford Fall/Winter 2025-2026 Brochure

FROM OUR DIRECTOR

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

As we look ahead to the crisp, colorful days of fall and the festive energy of winter, I’m filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible seasons we’ve just experienced. From bustling parks and packed programs to community celebrations and quiet moments of recreation, this past spring and summer reminded me of the true value of public spaces and shared experiences.

They say “a picture is worth a thousand words.” The photo collage below captures the spirit, dedication, and vibrancy that define our department. It’s a snapshot of what we strive to create every day—spaces and programs that bring people together, support well-being and make West Hartford such a wonderful place to live.

As we roll out our fall and winter offerings, I hope all residents share in our excitement. Whether you’re discovering a new class, returning to a favorite tradition, or simply enjoying the beauty of a changing season in one of our parks, there’s something for everyone. Our team is committed to creating opportunities that enrich your life and strengthen our community.

Thank you for your continued support, and we can’t wait to see you out there!

The smaller and heavier Futsal ball allows the player to more easily command the ball and leads to an increase in confidence. Participants will be in the ECC gym and they should wear active clothing, sneakers, shin guards, and bring a water bottle and futsal ball (if they have one). Please bring a nutfree lunch and two (2) snacks in an insulated lunch box.

Create Your Own Fantasy World

Let’s go down a rabbit hole and discover your own amazing world where YOU decide what can happen! We’ll explore your special world by showing it in paintings, sculpture, collage, and more!

Wild, Amazing Animals

We’ll explore animals that live in many countries as well as our own pets and learn about legends people believed about animals’ special powers. We’ll create figures, paintings, and puppets inspired by animal gods of Ancient Egyptians, Native Americans, Africans, and Asians as well as stories from our own folklore.

Around the World in Art

Up we go in our own hot air balloon to travel and discover what kinds of Art is made around the world. We’ll learn about Central American pottery, South American weaving, African textile designs, Italian glass making, Asian ink painting and more! We’ll use these ideas to create our own paintings and crafts.

Travel Through Time with Art

We’ve got our own special time machine that will whisk us back to the past or ahead to the future! Let’s start by finding out what ancient humans used Art for, then jump forward to see how Art told about important events and people. We’ll visit Leonardo da Vinci and be inspired by his paintings and inventions (did you know his invention made the helicopter possible?) Then Leonardo wants us to travel to the future to find out about Art in the year 2525! We’ll paint, sculpt, build, and design projects from each era we visit. But don’t worry, we’ll have you home in time for dinner!
