WHAT’S BENEATH THE SURFACE: YOUR WATER DOLLARS AT WORK INVESTING IN RELIABILITY

When you turn on the tap, flush the toilet, or water your yard, you expect your water system to work, and most of the time, it does without you even thinking about it. At Western Water, we work around the clock to make sure your service is safe, reliable, and consistent. While unexpected emergencies can happen, our goal is to prevent them by investing in the infrastructure that keeps everything running behind the scenes.

That’s where Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) come in. These projects are long-term upgrades for pipes, pumps, plants, and technology that strengthen our system, prevent failures, and prepare us for the future.

WHAT ARE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS?

CIPs are large-scale infrastructure projects designed to improve or replace aging components in our water and sewer systems. Many parts of our system were built decades ago, and while they’ve served us well, time takes a toll. They ensure we stay ahead of the curve by replacing and upgrading infrastructure before problems arise.

Examples of CIP work include:

• Replacing aging water and sewer pipelines

• Upgrading treatment plants and storage reservoirs

• Installing backup generators at pump stations

• Implementing smart technology to monitor pressure and detect leaks

These projects help us reduce service disruptions, improve emergency response, maintain top-tier water quality, and decrease long-term costs.

ACTIVELY INVESTING IN THE FUTURE

At Western Water, we actively plan for the future through engineering expertise and through our comprehensive Capital Improvement and Facilities Plan, which sets priorities for the next two years and forecasts needs over the next five years. Our engineering team plays a key role in designing projects to meet today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s demands. This ensures our system remains resilient and ready for the challenges ahead.

YOUR RATES AT WORK

Every dollar you pay goes directly into the systems that serve you, including both daily operations and major infrastructure projects. Thanks to our grants team, we stretch each dollar further by securing state and federal grants, reducing the cost burden on customers while delivering essential system improvements.
