SPONGE 2020 was an Interreg 2 Seas project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which ran from 2018-2021. The project pilots worked with communities to address the water-related effects of climate change. The Somerset Pilot was based in urban areas of Somerset, led by Westcountry Rivers Trust and Somerset County Council. The pilot implemented interventions, co-created with local communities, to prevent surface water flooding and improve the urban landscape.
The Local Action Project was funded by Defra and the Urban Demonstrators project was funded by the Environment Agency. These complementary projects were led by Westcountry Rivers Trust who have extensive experience of evaluating ecosystem services and working in partnership with a variety of stakeholders.
Timescales
The mapping work in this document was undertaken in 2018/19. The project activities detailed in the case studies took place between 2018-2020. The SPONGE 2020 project finished in 2021. This document was completed in June 2021.
