Mahana (M) Hokitika From the author of “Whale Rider”, a tale of family rivalry and reconciliation, set against the stunning backdrop of rural New Zealand in the 1960s. Director Lee Tamahori and returning to the screen Temuera Morrison. Gods of Egypt (M) Hokitika Set, the merciless god of darkness, has taken over the throne of Egypt and plunged the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. Few dare to rebel against him. A young thief, whose love was taken captive by the god, seeks to dethrone and defeat Set with the aid of the powerful god Horus. Ride Along 2 (M) Greymouth The RIDE ALONG 2 sequel picks up about a year after our heroes’ last adventure. Plans for a quick trip to Miami go bad. With the wedding upcoming, James reluctantly takes Ben with him to Miami to follow up on a lead connected to a drug-ring case he’s been trying to crack. In Miami, they meet Maya, a no-b.s homicide who lets them know, Miami is her turf. They also encounter A J a shady, cocky computer hacker who reveals evidence that implicates a well-respected local businessman, the wealthy Antonio Pope, who harbours a vicious streak and rules South Florida’s drug trade. If Ben and James can convince the authorities that Pope is a brutal crime boss they’ll stop his spree. If they fail, well there may not be a wedding after all. Dads Army (PG) Hokitika • Greymouth The Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard platoon deal with a visiting female journalist and a German spy as World War II draws to its conclusion. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bill Nighy, Toby Jones
Concussion (M) Greymouth Will Smith stars in Concussion, a dramatic thriller based on the incredible true David vs. Goliath story of American immigrant Dr. Bennet Omalu, the brilliant forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known. Omalu’s emotional quest puts him at dangerous odds with one of the most powerful institutions in the world. How to be Single (M) Greymoutrh There’s a right way to be single, a wrong way to be single, and then...there’s Alice. And Robin. Lucy. Meg. Tom. David. New York City is full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection, a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere between the teasing texts and one-night stands, what these unmarrieds all have in common is the need to learn how to be single in a world filled with ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around in the city that never sleeps was never so much fun. The Big Short (M) Greymouth • Hokitika Michael Burry, an eccentric ex-physician turned one-eyed Scion Capital hedge fund manager,. He believes that the US housing market is built on a bubble that will burst within the next few years. Autonomy within the company allows Burry to do largely as he pleases, so Burry proceeds to bet against the housing market with the banks, who are more than happy to accept his proposal for something that has never happened in American history. The banks believe that Burry is a crackpot and therefore are confident in that they will win the deal. Jared Vennett with Deutschebank gets wind of what Burry is doing and, as an investor believes he too can cash in on Burry’s beliefs. An errant telephone call to FrontPoint Partners gets this information into the hands of Mark Baum, an idealist who is fed up with the corruption in the rest is history.
