An Evening with Ray Brooks Me and My Shadows

It’s over fifty years since I started acting. And Butlin’s in Clacton was my second job. It’s been a crazy career. In the mad sixties knowing The Beatles, The Stones, working with Billy Fury, taking over from Adam Faith, crooks everywhere, killer contracts, selfpenned records and loads of girls. Yes, so many downs, until an enormous stroke of luck. I was seriously contemplating my life living in a cardboard box under Waterloo Bridge. Oh dear, yes it’s been a crazy career. Join Ray Brooks, star of EastEnders and the voice of the much loved TV character Mr Benn as he explores decade after decade of his fascinating career with clips of films and television, with all their ups and downs.

Charlie Landsborough Charlie is generally recognised and categorised as a country singer, however, as his regular supporters will tell you, country music only accounts for a very small part of his concert repertoire and music catalogue. Blake Swinging At The Cotton Club

Take a step back into 1920s & ’30s New York City and through Subtitle the doors of Harlem’s hottest nightclub, ‘The Cotton Club’! Featuring the Lindy Hop Dance Company & The Harry Stutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra, ‘Swinging at The Cotton Club’ is the action-packed show celebrating the music and dance of the Cotton Club – New York’s most celebrated nightclub of the 1920s and ‘30s. Performances by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fats Waller would have had the club swinging – whilst dancers such as Bojangles Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers lit-up the stage with their breathtaking routines. With over 20 singles released over the next few years including 3 number ones, “My Camera Never Lies”, “Land Of Make Believe” and of course, “Making Your Mind Up”, they sold in excess of 15 million records, spending 219 weeks in the UK charts alone! Alexia-rose Sinclair is 3 years old and has quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy as well as epilepsy. She is unable to sit up, free herself, play with toys or stand. We are fundraising for £75,000 to send Alexia to America for an SDR operation to remove her spasticity and hopefully enable her to use her arms, learn to sit and, with lots of physio and hydrotherapy, learn to one day walk better. The more support we get the better, so see you all there.

Blake Supreme Queen

Subtitle SUPREME QUEEN have been paying homage to the world’s most theatrical and dramatic Rock band, Queen since 1995, and in that time have had a huge impact on audiences across the UK, Europe and Asia. Front man, Scott Maley, plays an uncannily realistic ‘Freddy’ with just the right look, stage persona and, most importantly of all, the most incredibly powerful voice!

Scott is joined on stage by an enormously talented band including Nathan Mathers, who brings all the electric guitar virtuosity required to play a very convincing Brian May. Their attention to detail is truly impressive and extends to their use of the exact same equipment used by Queen on stage in their heyday.

Time 2 Shine

An Amateur Production, produced, directed and performed by young local performers. This fabulous musical youth showcase returns for its sixth year and features a line-up of the very best youth talent from across the Tendring District & surrounding areas. The concept of the show embodies the energy and passion of live performance enhanced by the vibrancy and enthusiasm of a host of talented young performers. Established in 2011 in memory of former West Cliff Trust Chairman Mike Freeman, the profits from the show fund the Mike Freeman Award. Supporting the West Cliff T heatre The West Cliff Theatre is run by a Registered Charity for the benefit of the local community with Trustees drawn from local people who have an active interest in the theatre. Run largely by volunteer staff, the theatre offers a varied programme of star names throughout the year whilst supporting local community and youth groups from across the Tendring and Colchester Districts.

The Stage Door Bar is fully licenced and opens one hour before all performances and during the interval. The bar is also available for private hires (subject to availability). Please be advised: Only food & drink purchased on the premises may be consumed in the stage door bar. We are sorry but we are unable to accept cards. Regular art exhibitions are staged in the theatre’s foyer. Registered in England No. 02002819: Charity No. 1001022

Joining the Friends of the West Cliff The FRIENDS OF THE WEST CLIFF THEATRE is a friendly voluntary organisation founded in 1987 and has nearly 600 members. The Friends celebrated their 25th Anniversary in 2012 and have provided tremendous support to the West Cliff raising well over £200,000 to purchase; • lighting and sound equipment, incl. new infrared sound enhancement system • carpets and furniture • stage curtains • refurbished toilets • a refurbished foyer • contributing more than half the cost of the purpose built storage facility The Friends hold regular social and fund-raising events, both at the theatre and elsewhere, and a regular coffee morning every Saturday in the Stage Door Bar from 10am to 12noon which is open to all. Many Friends also work as volunteer Front of House, Technical and Backstage Staff. Annual Membership is only £6 per person, joint membership for £10, family membership for £12 or a club, with a minimum of 25 people, can join for £15. Application forms are available from the theatre or by telephoning the Membership Secretary on 01206 824345.

Second Act Charity Shop 29 Frinton Road, Holland-on-Sea, CO15 5UH

In February 2012 the Trust opened Second Act, a hugely popular charity shop offering a variety of good quality clothing, jewellery, footwear, toys and books. The charity shop receives tremendous support from volunteers from the local community. All proceeds from the charity shop support the West Cliff Theatre.

the West Cliff, with the majority of the ticket price going to the artists, producers and promoters. Charging a booking fee ensures that 100% of this extra revenue comes to the theatre.

PAYMENTS

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the West Cliff Theatre.

The Box Office is open from 10am - 4.30pm from Monday to Saturday (closed lunchtime 12.30pm – 1.30pm) and 1 hour before performances. We accept all major credit and debit cards except American Express. Cheques should be made payable to ‘West Cliff Theatre’. Bookings should be paid for within five working days.

BOOKING FEE

A booking fee of £1 will apply on all ticket sales and reservations made online, over the phone or in person, whether paying by cash, cheque or credit/debit card. Prices that are displayed in this brochure include this fee. Why do we need to charge a booking fee? Since the loss of our Council grant, and in order to provide you with the best entertainment possible, we need to charge a booking fee to secure our share of the ticket income. On average, we receive less than 20% of the ticket price for the shows that you see at

CONCESSIONARY TICKETS

Concessionary tickets are available for patrons over 60 years and children under 16 years on some shows. See show pricing to see if this is applicable.

GROUPS

Special Group rates for a party of 10 or more are available for some shows. Please call or email our box office for further information.

POSTAGE

Patrons who require their tickets to be posted should send a SAE. Alternatively we can post your tickets for £1.00 postage & handling charge.

RESALE

We will try to resell tickets that cannot be used, however this will only be possible in the event that we are sold out.
