WILLMAR — Community Christian School is in for a different kind of season in 2023-24. Along with its slate of games in the Christian Athletic League, the Eagles are mixing in games against Ortonville, MACCRAY, Benson, St. John’s Prep and Dawson-Boyd. “Our schedule will include several local opponents from the Camden and West Central Conferences, which will be a new and exciting challenge,” said CCS head coach Sarah Klaassen. The Eagles are coming off a 16-2 campaign in 2022-23. And they will return four third-year starters. The missing player from that group is Sophia Bollig, who scored over 2,000 career points and averaged 19 points per game as a senior. Leading the returning starters is 6-foot-2 sophomore Hope Reid, who averaged 11.1 points and 7.6 rebounds

last season. Three guards return with sophomores Lexi Nelson (9.2 ppg), Margo Klaassen (8.2 ppg) and junior Gabbie Bollig. “Hope gives us considerable size in the paint at 6-2,” Sarah Klaassen said. “Margo and Lexi have improved their speed and athleticism in the off-season, which we hope to see in their production this year. Gabbie is small but scrappy. She averaged 3.1 steals per game last year, with even more hustle points. “We expect to see relatively balanced scoring between our four returning starters.” CCS has 13 players on varsity and junior varsity, including six players in the sophomore class. “Most of our players have been playing significant varsity minutes since the eighth grade, which has helped with the development and experience of our young team,” Sarah Klaassen said. “All of our players see significant minutes and play a valuable role on the team.”
