Choose from nine exceptional dining options!

Umi Uma®, the only Chef Nobu® restaurant at sea, serves Japanese-Peruvian fusion dishes prepared by a Nobutrained chef. Menu options might include: Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño, Grilled Wagyu Beef Filet and the world-famous Miso-Marinated Black Cod. Likeable, loveable — even the star of an award-winning documentary — Nobu popularized sushi. Today, Nobu and friend, Robert De Niro, run more than 70 restaurants and 19 hotels! According to Nobu, “Innovation happens when you’re humble enough to try something new.” Don’t miss your chance to try Umi Uma! Reservations required | Included but limited to one visit per cruise | Call ahead to inquire about vegetarian entrée options.
Osteria d’Ovidio, a collaboration with the Michelin-rated Alajmo brothers, prepares show-stopping Italian cuisine. At 28, Massimiliano, a.k.a. “Il Mozart dei fornelli” (the Mozart of the stoves), became the youngest chef to ever receive three Michelin stars! Raffaele is the CEO of the brothers’ restaurants: Le Calandre in Rubano and two others in Venice. Chef Alajmo assimilates both lightness and rich, savory flavors into his dishes, which could include: Burrata Ravioli with Seafood Sauce or Sea Bass with Potato Purée and Verbena Oil. There’s also the in-demand Rolled Pasta Filled with Braised Beef, Fig Molasses and Gorgonzola Cheese. Mangia! Reservations required | Included but limited to one visit per cruise
If you like wine, treat yourself to an exceptional experience at The Vintage Room. Serenity’s head sommelier and executive chef indulge and educate up to 14 guests with a 5- or 6-course meal and wine pairings: champagnes, whites, reds and dessert wines. Example courses include Smoked Salmon with Morels and Spinach, Artisan Cheese Plate with Apricot Chutney, Monkfish Liver Pâté and Chocolate Marquise with Raspberry Sorbet. However, wines rule here and the meals complement the wines. Reservations and formal attire are required | $220 or $300 per person.
Serenity’s main dining room, Waterside Restaurant, serves contemporary fine-dining breakfast, lunch and dinner in an elegant setting. Courses could include Baked Quail, Forest Mushroom Soup and Fresh Tasmanian Salmon Fillet. The menu changes daily, so there’s always something new to taste!
Beefbar® specializes in global street food, featuring prime cuts of Australian Wagyu, American Black Angus, Japanese Kobe and even cauliflower steaks. Order the bao buns and prawn salad. Reservations required for dinner. Try a little bit of this and that at Marketplace, the international flavors buffet, including traditional breakfast selections. Order a burger (beef, chicken, salmon or veggie) at The Trident Grill on the outdoor pool terrace. The Bistro delivers French-inspired pastries, international cheeses and meats and pâtés. It’s also the place to grab an espresso or cappuccino! Treat yourself to a Badiani gelato or fruit sorbet at Scoops Gelato Bar.

You must stroll along Terrazza Mascagni, the checkerboard seaside terrace overlooking the Tyrrhenian part of the Mediterranean. More than 34,000 floor tiles create a dramatic perspective for an amazing photo op. Crowds gather for the sunset view, but ships on the horizon and the Mediterranean are better observed during the day. Livorno has its own Nuova Venezia district of canals and bridges that lead inland from the port. Take a boat ride or stroll along the canals to delve into the 7th century alleyways. A great way to further connect with the sea is to visit the Livorno Aquarium

The Old Fort, an imposing giant of red brick completed in 1534, juts boldly into the sea and offers stunning panoramic views from the upper deck. The pentagonshaped New Fort was built from 1590 to 1604. Enter through the arched bridge and explore the lush park and events venue it is today. At the center of the Four Moors Monument, Ferndinando I de’ Medici stands high above four bronze, chained pirate prisoners. Originally commissioned to commemorate Tuscan strength at sea and power over piracy, folklore states that being able to see the noses of all four Moors from one spot will bring good luck. Hint: Look for a small white square in the surrounding walkway.
The palatial Villa Mimbelli was built by the merchant Francesco Mimbelli. Today, it houses the Museo Civico Giovanni Fattori. One of the greatest Italian painters, Fattori (1825–1908) was also a leader of the Macchiaioli movement. These renegades shared a common bond of patriotism and broke tradition by painting with macchia or blotches of color, preceding the French Impressionists by nearly a decade. The famous photograph Macchiaioli at the Caffé pretty much says it all! Fattori’s mastery of light and shadow enable you to almost feel the sun’s warmth on his subjects of military and rural life. Don’t let the crude outside of Chiesa de Santa Catrina fool you. Inside, visitors are rewarded with lovely frescos on the 207-foot-high, octagonal dome and the famous Coronation of the Virgin painting. The Mercato Centrale is not just a market, it’s a vibe. Friendly vendors and bustling locals gather among row upon row of aged cheeses, savory olives and prosciutto, crisp produce and fresh seafood. Warning: Some shops close mid-afternoon.
Cacciucco [pronounced ka-chee-oo-ko] is a hearty stew made from various small fish, cod, octopus and crustaceans, all sautéed with tomatoes, garlic and sage. Cinque e Cinque (5 and 5) consists of a chickpea torta (cake) wrapped in ciabatta. Consider adding a marinated melanzane (eggplant) slice to this popular street food. The name originated when vendors charged five lire for the cake and five lire for the bread.

The Vieux-Port (Old Port) Area
Fort Saint-Jean (1660), which guards the entrance to Vieux-Port, was constructed incorporating two pre-existing structures: the Commandery (1365) and the René I Tower (1453). Enjoy its relaxing views of fishing boats and of Marseille’s ecru facades and terracotta rooftops. A footbridge leads to the distinctly modern MuCEM of archeological and anthropological Mediterranean treasures as well as rooftop restaurants and gardens! Meander through the charming cobblestone pathways of nearby Le Panier, the city’s oldest quarter. Discover art studios, shops, the finest pastries and street art! Look for one of Nhobi’s colorful grimacing faces or a mosaic alien by Invader. Banksy’s new lighthouse appeared on Rue Félix Frégier in May 2025.
While in Vieux-Port, stop by one of Marseille’s oldest churches, Saint-Ferréol les Augustins (1447–1588). The tiled checkerboard floor and colorful abstract windows are unexpectedly fresh. Also nearby, a newer medieval exterior of Abbaye de Saint-Victor hides the original 5th century, gothic basilica housed inside. Marvel at towering vaulted ceilings and its underground crypt and sarcophagi. Near the MuCEM is one of the world’s largest cathedrals — the 19th century Cathédrale de la Major with a maximum capacity of 3,000! Striped inside and out, intricate mosaics and incredible stonework await beyond the entry doors. In 1852, Napoleon III laid the first stone of this multi-domed cathedral.
Other sights to see:
• Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde (Our Lady of the Guard Basilica) — Take a bus or train to see this basilica perched high above it all. La Bonne Mère, Marseille’s golden guardian, stands nearly 32 feet tall atop the bell tower. Inside is a riot of red and white marble stripes, gold leaf and 13,000 square feet of mosaics! Outside, visitors are rewarded with tranquil views of the sprawling city.
• Château d’If — Take a ferry from Vieux-Port to the smallest Frioul Island and explore Château d’If, the former impenetrable fortress and 16th century prison made famous by Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo (1840)!
• Calanques National Park — Located nine miles south of Marseille, bleached limestone cliffs dappled with lush greenery plunge into the turquoise sea — truly a sight to behold. With limited time, these views might be best enjoyed from a boat tour.
Local Tastes
Marseille is known for its bouillabaisse made from at least three types of fish and shellfish. Navettes are sweet bread sticks, split lengthwise, to resemble a boat. Authentic navette bakeries can be found in Le Panier. Pissaladière spreads a clove, fennel and fish sauce over flatbread, then tops it with caramelized onions, black olives and anchovies.

Here’s what the locals are drinking.

Aperitivio, a pre-dinner gathering, is when Aperol® Spritz (Aperol, prosecco and orange juice) are often enjoyed. Prosecco is Italy’s sparkling wine. Acqua (water) can be frizzante (carbonated), such as S.Pellegrino, or naturale. Typically, coffee is enjoyed at a coffee bar to avoid a table fee. A caffè normale (espresso) is most common. Cappuccinos (for breakfast only) are popular, as are caffè macchiatos and caffè lattes. Coffee is served after dessert.
• When in Rome — Frascati white wines from malvasia or trebbiano grapes and reds from cesanese grapes are the rage. IPA beers are in-demand, but Peroni lagers have been a Roman staple since 1846! Try Birra del Borgo’s Lisa Lager. Negroni (gin, Italian Campari® and vermouth) is a beloved cocktail.
• Livin’ Livorno Local — Legend says that a Ponce (coffee and rum) “elixir” will make everything right! Enjoyed for decades, Spuma Bianca is a non-alcoholic, carbonated beverage made from elderflowers! Enjoy citrusy vermentino white wines and bold sangiovese reds. Look for beers from: Piccolo Birrificio Clandestino, Fortezza Nuova or Mudita microbreweries.
Throughout France
Café (espresso) is popular. Café allongé, café noisette, café crème and café au lait are also appreciated. Café-clope refers to a coffee and cigarette, though smoking indoors is banned. Café bars are common. Robust cabernet sauvignons and merlots or crisp chardonnays are notable. Champagne is France’s sparkling wine. L’eau pétillanté (sparkling water) by Badoit, La Salvetat or Perrier is prevalent. The French also gather pre-meal for apéritifs (light cocktails).
• The Saint-Tropez Way — Espresso and café crème get a thumbs-up. In Saint-Tropez, order rosé. The Provence region has been perfecting rosés for more than 2,600 years! Enjoy Bandol, Château Minuty, Domaine de Ramatuelle or Domaine Tropez rosés. Pale ales, such as La Trop or a Blonde of SaintTropez, use local hops and are well-liked. An iconic Ice Tropez (sparkling wine and peach flavoring) makes a great apéritif.
• A Day in Marseille — The favorite coffees are espresso and café au lait. The in-vogue apéritif is a Mauresque, made with pastis (star anise, herbs, other spices and orgeat). Marseille made Pastis 12/12 famous. Try these Provence wines: Côtes de Provence, Bandol Rosé or Rouge or Cassiss white. Imbibe a La Cagole de Marseille brew.
Ask for aqua con gas (carbonated water) or aqua sin gas. Look for these sparkling brands: Vichy Catalán or Vilajuïga. Beer is now more popular than wine in Spain!
• Toasts in Palamós — Café con leche and cortado prevail, followed by café solo (espresso) and café americano. Lagers Estrella Damm and Estrella Galicia have caught on; so has San Miguel, a pilsner. Sample a Priorat wine from the local Bell-Lloc or Torres wineries or a Rioja from Torres. Sherries are a good aperitif or dessert wine, while Cava is Spain’s sparkling wine. Locals favor Agua de Valèncias (orange juice, cava and vermouth), fruit-packed Spanish Gin and Tonics and Tinto de Veranos (red wine and sparkling lemonade).

Expect perfect average temperatures from 68°F to 77°F, with Rome’s high being 85°F. Pack resort casual clothing (covered shoulders and bottoms of modest length) for onboard. The same goes for onshore, especially if you want to tour houses of worship. Breathable fabrics will help keep you cool where there’s no AC. Wear comfortable shoes and plan to do lot of walking in the exciting ports of call. Resort casual clothing is appropriate nearly everywhere for onboard dining. One formal outfit can be worn for dining at both The Vintage Room and Osteria d’Ovidio. Consider packing: pool outfits, fitness gear, a hat, sunglasses, SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, lip balm, a water bottle, a camera and binoculars for upper deck viewing. A Program of Events will be waiting for you in Rome!
DOs:
• Bring your valid health insurance card and driver’s license.
• Ensure that your passport has been issued within the last 10 years and will be valid at least three to six months after your planned return to the U.S. Also, it should have four blank pages.
• Bring a credit card and some euros for small purchases and possibly onshore tipping.
• Ask your doctor about vaccines for a Mediterranean cruise. COVID-19, flu, hep A, hep B and tetanus are common. The hepatitis vaccine series takes six months to complete, so plan accordingly.
• Ask your butler for help to make reservations for in-port experiences and onboard dinners.
• Feel safe drinking tap water and refilling your bottle from public fountains. Italy, France and Spain all adhere to strict EU water treatment guidelines.
• Pack medications, including anti-seasickness meds (if needed), medical devices and toiletries in compliance with TSA’s 3-1-1 Rule*.
DON’Ts:
• Book airfare, hotel reservations or transportation to and from the airport. Wesco is happy to make these arrangements for you!
• Bring children. This is an adults-only trip.
• Be an easy target. Carry purses, wallets and phones in front. Never leave your phone exposed.
• Feel obligated to tip while ashore. Workers are paid a living wage, so tips are not expected. It is customary to round up to the nearest euro. If service is outstanding, a 5 to 10% cash tip is appropriate. Reminder: Tips for the Serenity staff are already covered!
• Expect quick service or punctuality. It’s Europe. Relax. Enjoy the scenery. Savor your meals. Also, dinners start around 8:00 p.m.
• Look for free refills or to get your coffee to go.
