WHERE DOES HE DWELL?
from Vol 17 Issue 21
by Weekly Link
In Parshas Terumah, G-d instructed the Jewish people to build a Tabernacle. "v"Asu Li Mikdash v'Shachanti b'Socham- And they shall make me a Tabernacle and I shall dwell in them." Seemingly Hashem should have said that He "will dwell in it", meaning that the Shechina will dwell in the Tabernacle. Why does Hashem instead say, "And I will dwell in them"?
Rav Menachem Mendel of Kotzk answers that the Shechina is not limited to a physical space, rather every Jew has the ability to be a living and breathing Tabernacle, in which the Shechina can reside. This is why it says, "I will dwell in them". There are Jews who need to make a very deliberate and conscious effort to allow the Shechina to permeate their lives. They weren't raised with a Jewish education. As you can see in this recent photo, Jews are at BJX on a blustery cold night to learn Torah and connect to their Rebbe because they feel the love. Slowly, the Shechina is being implanted in the hearts of each and every one of them. “I will dwell in them.”
