Legend has it, the land where Downtown Wichita Falls is now currently located was won in a poker game in 1837. However, it wasn’t until the late 1800’s when settlers began to call Wichita Falls home. A post office, public school and church were formed by 1879. Eventually the City would become a transportation and supply center for many railways throughout northwest Texas and southern Oklahoma. By the early 1900’s oil was discovered and the City continued to grow exponentially. Downtown Wichita Falls, at that time, was the geographic hub of the city. Citizens could live, work, eat, shop and enjoy movies, live theatre and concerts all while Downtown.
