Wee-Chi-Tah Sculpture 500 block of Wichita St.

Another work by local artist Jack Stevens, this marvelous life-sized sculpture features a Comanche family crossing the Wichita River. The actual legend of their crossing defines where Wichita got its name. This multi-part artwork is of a woman, her child, two braves, their horses and a colt set in the natural beauty of rock and flowing water. The woman is testing the river’s depth, as the legend tells, and describes it is “waist-deep,” which is how “wee-chi-tah” is translated.

FIRSTS

A first for Wichita Falls, the new FoxHill Restaurant, will provide a true farmto-table dining experience. Owner and local businessman, John Hirschi, dreamt of combining a love and passion for farming and ranching with growing and cooking food. The restaurant will aim to grow the majority of the food served on site. What can’t be grown there, will come from area farms. The Chef, Dustin Aipperspach, has worked in the industry for over 20 years and was trained by a French Master Chef and a Master Sushi Chef. The experience of dining at FoxHill will truly be unlike anything else Wichita Falls has to offer. The restaurant is scheduled to open Fall of 2017. What started as a passion for a father and son team, grew into a first for Wichita Falls, Sidecar Brewing. Mike and Daniel Anderson sought to provide something new for residents and visitors alike to Wichita Falls. The concept for Sidecar Brewing includes ten beer taps at the bar, some permanent and some rotating, while also incorporating the beer with the food menu. Walking in one of the first things visible is the large stainless steel fermenting vats. Seeing the brewing process first hand, further adds to the full experience for patrons. As an added bonus there is an outside patio to enjoy the beer and food! Sidecar Brewing 902 Broad St. • 940-767-2739

Everything’s Waiting for YOU

Legend has it, the land where Downtown Wichita Falls is now currently located was won in a poker game in 1837. However, it wasn’t until the late 1800’s when settlers began to call Wichita Falls home. A post office, public school and church were formed by 1879. Eventually the City would become a transportation and supply center for many railways throughout northwest Texas and southern Oklahoma. By the early 1900’s oil was discovered and the City continued to grow exponentially. Downtown Wichita Falls, at that time, was the geographic hub of the city. Citizens could live, work, eat, shop and enjoy movies, live theatre and concerts all while Downtown.

The Market at 9th Street Studios

Iron Horse Pub

Wichita Theatre 8th Street Coffee Shop

At the start of 2017 the Wichita Falls City Council voted to increase the focus on revitalizing our Downtown. In doing so, the City and its citizens have responded and risen to the occasion. Numerous new restaurants, retail locations and entertainment options have recently opened. Residential living options are also currently underway. All the while, the businesses who have a history and have made Downtown their home, are continuing to flourish as the anchors of Downtown.
