We warmly welcome you to our winter offering of Important Jewels, Watches & Luxury Accessories—Webb’s premier online auction and a cornerstone in our seasonal calendar. This is where the rare and remarkable are brought into view, where provenance and design converge, and where we continue to see exceptional results. This reflects the strength of our consignors, the refined taste of the New Zealand market, and our discerning connoisseurs.

Recent sales highlights from our March auction included: An Audemars Piguet, Royal Oak Offshore 18ct Rose Gold Diamond Set Ladies Chronograph Wristwatch which sold for $59,750 (including buyer’s premium,) a Hermès, Bleu Nuit Togo Birkin 30 with Box which sold at an impressive $27,485 (including buyer’s premium), and many more.

These results illustrate a clear and growing appetite for luxury goods in our market. Despite the fact that the local economy is facing new challenges, we’re experiencing renewed enthusiasm for tangible beauty—diamonds, coloured gemstones, fine gold, heritage watches, and collectable handbags. Likewise, collectors are seeking both emotional and enduring value, showing that luxury continues to evolve into something deeply personal—anchored in meaning, memory, and material significance.

One moment that captured the world’s imagination this year was the recordbreaking sale of Jane Birkin’s original Hermès Birkin bag, which achieved $17 million at auction. Conceived from a serendipitous encounter between Jane Birkin and Hermès’ Jean-Louis Dumas in the 1980s, the Birkin was never just a bag—it was an icon in the making.

Today, it remains a pinnacle of design and desirability. In New Zealand, where Hermès is not available through retail channels, Webb’s is proud to be regularly entrusted with the consignment of these extraordinary pieces. In this auction, we are pleased to present three types of Hermès Birkins—rare and highly crafted examples that speak directly to the avid collector.

For the launch of this auction, we are honoured to partner with Krug Champagne, a house synonymous with rarity and refinement. This partnership is made even more meaningful through the support of Normanby Fine Wines, our elegant new neighbours in Mount Eden.

The long-standing relationships we've built with you, our clients— whether buying, selling, learning, or teaching—are at the heart of this work. It is a privilege to work alongside collectors at every stage of their journey, to witness the evolution of their tastes, and to share in the stories behind each acquisition. The trust, the shared knowledge, and the wonderful connections formed over time—this is what elevates our work into something truly lasting.

This auction collection has been assembled with care, discernment, and a belief in an enduring legacy of the finest adornments and investment potential. Whether you are adding to a lifelong collection or acquiring your first piece, we are delighted to share these moments with you.

Performance Under Pressure

—The Rolex Sea Dweller 1665

Double Red Mark III

Among the highlights of this catalogue is a Rolex that stands in a league of its own: the legendary Sea Dweller 1665

Double Red Mark III, a rare grail watch for collectors and a milestone in Rolex’s history of innovation.

The Sea Dweller 1665 Double Red gained its reputation in the late 1960s through Rolex’s collaboration with COMEX, addressing a critical issue faced by saturation divers: helium atoms infiltrating watch cases during prolonged deep dives and expanding rapidly during decompression, risking crystal damage. Rolex’s solution, a helium escape valve paired with a reinforced case, transformed the Submariner into the professionalgrade Sea Dweller diver’s watch.

The example offered in this catalogue dates to 1974 and was sold new in 1975 by Nicolas the Jeweller in Christchurch, New Zealand. Its completeness is exceptional, arriving with the original presentation box (even with the outer plastic and model reference sticker), punched warranty certificate, chronometer certification, period-correct booklets, tags, and the original folded link 9315 bracelet.

The bracelet was replaced during use with a later 93150 Oyster, but the original remains with the set, included, though in need of repair—an important piece of the watch’s history.

The dial is a textbook Mark III and considered the rarest of the Double Red variants. It features two crisp red lines against a matte black background, with the Rolex coronet perfectly aligned and an open six in the depth rating (2000 ft = 610 m).

The watch itself is well preserved, retaining its original Superdome acrylic crystal, helium escape valve at 9 o’clock, and period correct aluminium bezel insert with bold serif numerals. The tritium lume has aged beautifully to a warm cream hue—free from relume or restoration—a testament to decades of careful ownership.

Recent auction results speak to its desirability. In June 2022, Phillips sold a similar Mark III example in New York (Lot 78) for usd $94,500 (approximately nzd $160,000 today), within its usd $70,000 to $140,000 estimate.

For collectors, this Double Red Sea Dweller ticks every box: technical importance, aesthetic rarity, and an unbroken chain of provenance. Webb’s specialist Sam Shaw recalls tracing the watch’s journey from Christchurch’s Nicolas the Jeweller to the present day:

“There’s something special about a watch with a clear history—sold only once in its lifetime, from the original owner to its current keeper, who has cared for it over the past ten years. I had the privilege of handling that previous sale myself, which adds a deeper connection to its story,” says Shaw.

This Important Jewels, Watches & Luxury Accessories auction also features a remarkable Rolex GMT Master 1675 with a unique fuchsia pink bezel fade, an eye-catching and rare variation of the classic GMT Master line. It is one of the only pieces in the 1.8 to 1.9 million serial range to feature this colour change phenomenon making it a rare collector’s piece.

Also included is a Montblanc Exo Tourbillon, a testament to modern horological innovation. This exceptional timepiece was nominated for the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2016, innovating the Tourbillon complication by placing the balance wheel outside the Tourbillon cage—a design that improves precision and reduces energy consumption.

68 Stainless Steel, 40mm Rolex Sea Dweller Ref. 1665 “Double Red” Mk III – Full Set, Nicolas the Jeweller Christchurch, 14 July 1975 est $80,000 — $100,000

17 18ct Red Gold, 42mm Montblanc Star 4810 Exo Tourbillon Slim, Automatic Wristwatch, circa 2018 est $40,000 — $45,000

Collectors will also appreciate the selection of Omega Speedmasters, including both a rare pre-Moon reference 145.022 69 ST featuring the hippocampus case back, and the Straight-Writing post-Moon version. These models collectively represent a great record of the Speedmaster’s evolution around the time of the Moon landing, capturing an iconic moment in space exploration history and cementing their place as the official NASA Moonwatch.

Explore the full catalogue for more watches such as these, as well as Patek Philippe, Cartier and many others. Place your bids online now ahead of the auction closing on Sunday 10 August from 8 pm—for your chance to own a piece of history, design, and engineering.

A Rare, Highly Collectable, 40mm Rolex GMT Master "Fuchsia" bezel MK1 "Long E" Dial with Original Rivet Bracelet, circa 1968

Produced in circa 1968, this Rolex GMT Master reference 1675 stands out for its highly sought-after "fuchsia" bezel insert an anomaly exclusive to watches within the 1.8 million to 1.9 million serial range. During this period, Rolex used a specific batch of aluminium bezel inserts whose red pigments were prone to chemical change under UV exposure over decades. Instead of remaining a deep red, these sectors faded to a striking pink. No other GMT/Master production era exhibits this same characteristic, making these examples highly prized. This watch retains its original matte black "Long" Mk1 dial, identified by the extended middle stroke of the "E" in "ROLEX" Original riveted Oyster bracelet (reference 7206 with correct 80 end links), a detail often lost to time but critical in preserving the watch's period authenticity and value.

Reference: 1675/7206. Circa 1968 (by serial: 1,83X,XXX). Stainless steel case with bi-directional aluminium bezel insert. 40mm Diameter, 47.5mm lug to lug, 12.8mm thickness. Rare, Vintage, 34mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual Wristwatch with Engraving Attributed to an Original NZSAS Squadron Member, circa 1957

From the engravings on this Rolex Oyster Perpetual we can attribute it to once belonging to Captain (Retired) Graham 'Wally' Nash, MBE (1932-2019), a highly respected New Zealand Army veteran who served over 33 years across the NZSAS, RNZIR, and multiple overseas deployments including Malaya, Borneo, and Vietnam. Nash enlisted in 1950 and was an original member of "the Originals" NZSAS Squadron during the mid-1950s. This watch dates from around 1957, coinciding with his transfer from the NZSAS to the infantry following his squadron's disbandment. Rolex Sea Dweller

Ref.1665 "Double Red "Mk III" Full Set Full Set, Nicolas the Jeweller Christchurch, 14 July 1975

The Rolex Sea Dweller 1665 Double Red needs little introduction. Developed in the late 1960s for saturation divers, it became the first commercially available watch fitted with a helium escape valve.

This example was produced in 1974 and sold on 14 July 1975 by Nicolas the Jeweller in Christchurch, New Zealand. It remains a rare survivor retaining its original presentation box, punched warranty certificate, chronometer paper, period correct Rolex booklets and tags, and its original 9315 folded link bracelet which was later replaced with a 93150 Oyster during servicing. Full sets of this calibre are seldom seen in the market, especially examples with local New Zealand provenance.

The dial is a correct Mark III configuration that sets it apart from other Double Red variants. The two lines of red text are thin and sharply printed directly onto the matte black dial without the heavier underpaint of earlier types. The depth rating shows the characteristic open six numerals reading 2000 ft = 610 m., and the "D" in "Dweller" sits directly beneath the "R" in "Submariner" The case back engraving of Rolex Patent Gas Escape Valve Oyster further confirms the watch within the correct production period for Mark III dials.

As a Double Red Sea Dweller with complete accessories and New Zealand delivery provenance, this 1974 production Mark III represents one of the most collectable and desirable examples to come to market. It offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a true reference point for the model's history.

Reference: 1665. Production circa 1974, retailed 14 July 1975 (by serial and warranty papers). Stainless steel case with helium escape valve and engraved case back "ROLEX PATENT GAS ESCAPE VALVE OYSTER". Approx. 40mm Diameter, 47mm lug to lug, 17mm thickness. Matte black "Mark III" dial with two lines of thin red text, tall slender Rolex coronet, open six depth rating ("2000ft = 610m"), tritium lume aged to creamy patina, Rolex sport handset with matching lume tone. Domed acrylic (Superdome), correct for reference. Rolex calibre 1575 automatic, 26 jewels, hacking seconds. Rolex 93150 Oyster (later replacement) with original 9315 folded-link bracelet retained (broken, included). Original presentation box, punched warranty certificate, chronometer paper, period correct booklets and tags.

Red spinel is one of the rarest and most scientifically significant gemstones in the spinel group. Fine-quality specimens are geologically uncommon and occur only in select metamorphic environments such as those in Myanmar, Tanzania, and Vietnam. According to sources such as GIA, GRS, and SSEF, natural red spinel over 2.00cts with strong colour, minimal inclusions and good symmetry is especially rare and commands high regard among gem professionals.

The S.T. Dupont Maki-E Panther represents a rare collaboration between the French luxury accessories company and centuriesold Japanese artistry. Produced only by special order in the late 1980s, these lighters were handcrafted to showcase the traditional Japanese lacquerware technique of Maki-E (sprinkled picture). Each piece began life in France as a Line D model in gold trim and black Chinese lacquer before being sent to Japan. There, master craftsman Mori Enoki applied layer upon layer of urushi lacquer, 24-carat gold powder, and mother-of-pearl inlays to create intricate, textured designs.

The Maki-E process required 3 - 4 months of meticulous handwork, with techniques like Togidashi (flat) and Taka (raised) Maki/E giving depth and dimension to the art. The Panther's vivid green eyes, achieved using raden (mother-of-pearl) inlay, demonstrate this mastery. Mori Enoki, who passed away in 1999, personally decorated this lighter, making it one of the extremely limited examples in existence today.

Signed both by S.T. Dupont and Enoki, each lighter is individually numbered and cannot be reproduced, further enhancing its rarity and collectability.

98 Jaeger-LeCoultre, Atmos Classic Phases

De Lune

Mantel Clock

The concept of a clock powered by environmental change dates back to 1864 with the Beverly Clock, still running today at the University of Otago's Physics Department in Dunedin. Designed by Arthur Beverly, it uses air pressure changes to lift weights and drive a traditional gravity-powered mechanism. Nearly 70 years later, Jaeger-LeCoultre refined the idea into the Atmos clock, miniaturising the principle with a sealed, gas-filled capsule that expands and contracts with air temperature shifts. A single one-degree Celsius change is enough to power the movement for two days. Unlike the large, weight-driven Beverly, the Atmos uses this tiny thermal energy to drive a near-frictionless mechanical system.

OMEGA Speedmaster

Professional 145.02269 "Pre Moon"

Hippocampus Case

Back Wristwatch, circa 1971

A fascinating chapter in Speedmaster history, the 145.022-69 ST is known for its transitional character. While some later examples from 1970,74 carry the celebrated "Straight Writing" case back commemorating the moon landing, contemporary pieces like this retained the seahorse (Hippocampus) medallion engraving, an emblem OMEGA had used since the late 1950s. This overlap occurred as OMEGA phased in case backs with the Moon inscription, meaning both designs were produced side by side for a period.

This example, with its 30994xxx serial, dates to around 1971 and features all the hallmarks of the "pre-moon" case back variant. Complimented by a period-correct 1039 bracelet with 516 endlinks, and the narrow "C" bezel insert.

Reference: 145.022-69 ST. Circa 1971 (Serial: 30,994,xxx). Stainless steel, lyre-lug case with seahorse (Hippocampus) medallion case back. 42mm Diameter, 20mm lug width. 1. Background to the Terms used in these Conditions

The conditions that are listed below contain terms that are used regularly and may need explanation. They are as follows:

“the Buyer” means the person with the highest bid accepted by the Auctioneer.

“the Lot” means any item depicted within the sale for auction and in particular the item or items described against any lot number in the catalogue.

“the Hammer price” means the amount of the highest bid accepted by the auctioneer in relation to a lot.

“the Buyer’s Premium” means the charge payable by the Buyer to the auction house as a percentage of the hammer price.

“the Reserve” means the lowest amount at which

Terms & Conditions

The terms and conditions of sale listed here contain the policies of Webb’s (Webb Fine Art). They are the terms on which Webb’s (Webb Fine Art) and the Seller contract with the Buyer. They may be amended by printed Saleroom Notices or oral announcements made before and during the sale. By bidding at auction you agree to be bound by these terms.

Webb’s has agreed with the Seller that the lot can be sold.

“Forgery” means an item constituting an imitation originally conceived and executed as a whole, with a fraudulent intention to deceive as to authorship, origin, age, period, culture or source, where the correct description as to such matters is not reflected by the description in the catalogue. Accordingly, no lot shall be capable of being a forgery by reason of any damage or restoration work of any kind (Including re-painting).

“the insured value” means the amount that Webb’s in its absolute discretion from time to time shall consider the value for which a lot should be covered for insurance (whether or not insurance is arranged by Webb’s).

All values expressed in Webb’s catalogues (in any format) are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD$). All bids,

“hammer price”, “reserves”, “Buyers Premium” and other expressions of value are understood by all parties to be in New Zealand Dollars (NZD$) unless otherwise specified.

2. Webb’s Auctions as Agent

Except as otherwise stated, Webb’s acts as agent for the Seller.

The contract for the sale of the property is therefore made between the Seller and the Buyer.

3. Before the Sale

3.1.

Examination of Property

Prospective Buyers are strongly advised to examine in person any property in which they are interested before the Auction takes place. Neither Webb’s nor the Seller provides any guarantee in relation to the nature of the property apart

from the Limited warranty in the paragraph below.

The property is otherwise sold “AS IS”

3.2. Catalogue and Other Descriptions

All statements by Webb’s in the catalogue entry for the property or in the condition report, or made orally or in writing elsewhere, are statements of opinion and are not to be relied upon as statements of fact. Such statements do not constitute a representation, warranty or assumption of liability by Webb’s of any kind.

References in the catalogue entry to the condition report to damage or restoration are for guidance only and should be evaluated by personal inspection by the bidder or a knowledgeable representative. The absence of such a reference does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of

any others. Estimates of the selling price should not be relied on as a statement that this is the price at which the item will sell or its value for any other purpose. Neither Webb’s nor The Seller is responsible for any errors or omissions in the catalogue or any supplemental material.

Images are measured height by width (sight size). Illustrations are provided only as a guide and should not be relied upon as a true representation of colour or condition. Images are not shown at a standard scale. Mention is rarely made of frames (which may be provided as supplementary images on the website) which do not form part of the lot as described in the printed catalogue.

An item bought “on Extension” must be paid for in full before it will be released to the purchaser or his/her agreed expertising committee or specialist. Payments received for such items will be held “in trust” for up to 90 days or earlier, if the issue of authenticity has been resolved more quickly. Extensions must be requested before the auction.

Foreign buyers should note that all transactions are in New Zealand Dollars so there may be a small exchange rate risk. The costs associated with acquiring a good opinion or certificate will be carried by the purchaser. If the item turns out to be forged or otherwise incorrectly described, all reasonable costs will be borne by the vendor.

3.3.

Buyers Responsibility

All property is sold “as is” without representation or warranty of any kind by Webb’s or the Seller. Buyers are responsible for satisfying themselves concerning the condition of the property and the matters referred to in the catalogue by requesting a condition report.

No lot to be rejected if, subsequent to the sale, it has been immersed in liquid or treated by any other process unless the Auctioneer’s permission to subject the lot to such immersion or treatment has first been obtained in writing.

4. At the Sale

4.1. Refusal of Admission

Webb’s reserves the right at our complete discretion to refuse admission to the auction premises or participation in any auction and to reject any bid.

4.2. Registration Before Bidding

Any prospective new buyer must complete and sign a registration form and provide photo identification before bidding. Webb’s may request bank, trade or other financial references to substantiate this registration.

4.3. Bidding as a Principal

When making a bid, a bidder is accepting personal liability to pay the purchase price including the buyer’s premium and all applicable taxes, plus all other applicable charges, unless it has been explicitly agreed in writing with Webb’s before the commencement of the sale that the bidder is acting as agent on behalf of an identified third party acceptable to Webb’s and that Webb’s will only look to the principal for payment.

4.4. International Registrations

All International clients not known to Webb’s will be required to scan or fax through an accredited form of photo identification and pay a deposit at our discretion in cleared funds into Webb’s account at least 24 hours before the commencement of the auction. Bids will not be accepted without this deposit. Webb’s also reserves the right to request any additional forms of identification prior to registering an overseas bid.

This deposit can be made using a credit card, however the balance of any purchase price in excess of $5,000 cannot be charged to this card without prior arrangement.

This deposit is redeemable against any auction purchase and will be refunded in full if no purchases are made.

4.5. Absentee

Bids

Webb’s will use reasonable efforts to execute written bids delivered to us AT LEAST 24 Hours before the sale for the convenience of those clients who are unable to attend the auction in person. If we receive identical written bids on a particular lot, and at the auction these are the highest bids on that lot, then the lot will be sold to the person whose written bid was received and accepted first. Execution of written bids is a free service undertaken subject to other commitments at the time of the sale and we do not accept liability for failing to execute a written bid or for errors or omissions which may arise. It is the bidder’s responsibility to check with Webb’s after the auction if they were successful. Unlimited or “Buy” bids will not be accepted.

4.6. Telephone Bids

Priority will be given to overseas and bidders from other regions. Please refer to the catalogue for the Telephone Bids form. Arrangements for this service must be confirmed AT LEAST 24 HOURS PRIOR to the auction commencing. Webb’s accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any errors or failure to execute bids. In telephone bidding the buyer agrees to be bound by all terms and conditions listed here and accepts that Webb’s cannot be held responsible for any miscommunications in the process. The success of telephone bidding cannot be guaranteed due to circumstances that are unforeseen. Buyers should be

aware of the risk and accept the consequences should contact be unsuccessful at the time of Auction. You must advise Webb’s of the lots in question, and you will be assumed to be a buyer at the minimum price of 75% of estimate (i.e. reserve) for all such lots. Webb’s will advise Telephone Bidders who have registered at least 24 hours before the auction of any relevant changes to descriptions, withdrawals, or any other sale room notices.

4.7.

Online Bidding

Webb’s offers an online bidding service. When bidding online the buyer agrees to be bound by all terms and conditions listed here by Webb’s.

Webb’s accepts no responsibility for any errors, failure to execute bids or any other miscommunications regarding this process. It is the online bidder’s responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the relevant information regarding bids, lot numbers and contact details. Webb’s does not charge for this service.

4.8.

Reserves

Unless otherwise indicated, all lots are offered subject to a reserve, which is the confidential minimum price below which the Lot will not be sold. The reserve will not exceed the low estimate printed in the catalogue. The auctioneer may open the bidding on any Lot below the reserve by placing a bid on behalf of the Seller. The auctioneer may continue to bid on behalf of seller up to the amount of the reserve, either by placing consecutive bids or by placing bids in response to other bidders.
