‘A’ Rated for wet weather grip savings without compromise
A very warm welcome to York for what looks set to be a great day of sporting action in support of a wonderful charity. We are delighted to be hosting Britain’s biggest charity raceday and Macmillan’s biggest single fundraiser for the 54th time.
As we enjoy the sporting action today, we all pay tribute to Peter Easterby who passed away last weekend - a legend of the game and a true friend to York. Our thoughts are with Tim, Sarah, Emily, William and Thomas, as well as the wider family and friends of a man who was so proud of his home county
Over £10m has now been raised over the previous 53 racedays due to the tremendous support of racegoers, sponsors, charity riders, supporters and the hard work and generosity of so many people, past and present. We thank you all, everyone can take a huge pride in helping people whose lives are affected by cancer We send our utmost appreciation and thanks to all at Macmillan Cancer Support who dedicate themselves to helping patients and their families cope with this terrible disease
So much is done by so many, however the jockeys in the Macmillan Ride of Their Lives do merit a special mention, their commitment to fitness, horsemanship and fundraising has been truly impressive- they have already banked over £100,000 and you can add to it by visiting our website to follow a link to their JustGiving pages, or scanning the QR code on page 27 There is still time to bid for one of the fantastic lots in the Macmillan auction or to buy a raffle ticket (see p25). Do raise a cheer for both our intrepid riders who can relax by 12.35pm, as well as for our brave fundraisers who are abseiling from the roof of the Knavesmire Stand.
The Churchill Tyres Supporting Macmillan Sprint is the latest example of a business to back this great day. One of Britain’s richest sprint handicaps for three-year-olds, it offers record prize money of £125,000 The roll of honour in this race over six furlongs includes top sprinters such as Cadeaux Genereux, Sheikh Albadou and Twilight Son. It may be that some of today’s field return for our flagship sprint contest, the Group One Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe on Friday 22 August. Always a fascinating contest, it pits Group One winning riders like Danny Tudhope, James Doyle and Paul Mulrennan against upcoming apprentices such as Rory Mulligan or Harry Burns, each will be hoping their mounts can outpace 21 declared rivals.
With prize money of £70,000 on offer, the black type contest of the afternoon is the Listed Sky Bet Race to the Ebor Grand Cup; which has drawn a quality field. The winner earns a guaranteed berth in the £500,000 Sky Bet Ebor on Saturday 23 August, see p46 to find out how. The prestige and the promise of the race has drawn a previous Sky Bet Ebor winner from Ireland in Absurde, as well as Alsakib, a contender from the yard of the reigning Champion Trainer at York Andrew Balding.
The Queen Mother’s Cup is one of the UK’s richest contest for Female Amateur Jockeys. The jockeys themselves do not take any monetary reward, so instead they receive their weight in fabulous Lanson champagne; do watch out for this special weighing-in ceremony in the winner’s enclosure.
The late Reg Griffin was the driving force behind this charity day for some thirty-eight years and it is a privilege for York to stage the Reg Griffin Appreciation EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes in his honour. This looks a particularly high-quality juvenile renewal and the field look sure to compete at a high grade in the months ahead.
The continuing support of the Basil Samuel Charitable Trust, the Ice Company, Bosun’s Restaurant, as well as that of Churchill Tyres and Sky Bet is hugely appreciated.
It is now twenty years since the Knavesmire played temporary host to the Royal Meeting (see p56) with the sporting connection still common, so do look out for York winners next week at Royal Ascot, you can see where any of today’s contestants might feature by the following the symbol next to their names in this racecard.
Equine ambassador to the Knavesmire, Remy (aka Goldream when successful on the track), is back with us; do go and say hello to him and our partner team from New Beginnings.

A WINTER’S TALE:
WHAT IS NEW AT YORK THIS SEASON?
NEXT GENERATION CANOPIES CHAMPAGNE LAWNS
Nine next generation canopies now stand proudly on the Champagne Lawns. Clever enough to let the grass grow beneath them, they should prove popular if we get a summer shower. For the October racedays the built-in heaters will allow racegoers to keep enjoying the fresh air Each one has a speaker, so the race commentary will come to your table
BUSTARDTHORPE END
SOUTHERN END DEVELOPMENT
Last August we were honoured when Her Majesty The Queen, our Royal Patron, opened this development to the South of the Knavesmire Stand. Check out the Churchill Tyres lawn & canopy, the Theakston and Guinness bars, as well as food outlets and a WIlliam Hill shop
MR MOWITALL
Joining the grounds team over winter were a couple of robotic mowers, one creatively named, Mr Mowitall. They are helping with the lawns and car parks, leaving the human talent better able to focus on the track itself
THE TEAM NEVER REST
Maintenance is key, if a little dull. Over 6,000 pints of paint have been used by the team this winter and the Knavesmire Stand Roof has had extensive repairs, (it is nearly thirty years old!).
A LIVING FLOWER WALL
OPPOSITE THE MELROSE STAND
The flowers are petunia and petchoa, grown by Head Gardener, Zak Rafferty and his team, from seedlings in our greenhouses. That Insta moment now has real flowers behind it.
THE
BARS HAVE IT
Over the Winter a number of bars have been given a face-lift. There is a new Pink Gin & Cocktail Bar on the main Champagne Lawns, a second Guinness Bar near the Roberto Lawn, with a refreshed Prosecco Bar next door The fun murals from the Dublin based brand should make a good selfie
NEW ON THE MENU
Around the racecourse there are a lot of new choices. Perhaps the sweet treats of the Churros will follow your Nachos, both are now part of the Knavesmire Courtyard offering.
If you like spice, then the eateries on the ground floors of both the Knavesmire and Ebor Stands now serve our homemade Curry Club dishes.
Finger lickin’ chicken? Try the grills in either the Bustardthorpe End or the John Carr Terrace. Try the Rustic Pizza freshly baked at the Moët Roof Terrace.

BAR CLOSING TIMES
Key bars will remain open up to 7pm. The serving of drinks in hospitality areas will be as specified in your booking details. Have an enjoyable time with us but please respect our neighbours and the wider city as you leave the racecourse.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
York Racecourse always strives to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control. We have employed professionally-trained and experienced stewards. In the event of a situation which requires a partial or full evacuation of the stands, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will usher you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and quietly. If we are unable to re-occupy the stands, you may be invited to return to your car or coach. Departure from car and coach parks will be under the direction of the Police. The foregoing is a precautionary tale.
Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai is proud to be supporting two Group 2 features - the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Middleton Stakes and the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Dante Stakes – races which continue to form an integral part of our partnership with York Racecourse and our wider international sponsorship portfolio.
This year we have extended our support to include title sponsorship of the new Al Basti Equiworld , Dubai Summer Saturday on 28th June which combines exciting Group 3 action on the track with post-racing entertainment to match, ahead of our return in August for the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Gimcrack Stakes in August.
Congratulations are due to York Racecourse Chairman, Bridget Guerin, and the York Racecourse Committee for their continued commitment to continually improving the quality of racing on the Knavesmire and ever increasing prize money which I am sure will prove to be a compelling proposition for owners and trainers throughout the season.
I wish them and all those involved with staging of today’s meeting horses a pleasant and successful day.
A left-handed track which joins the straight course just under five furlongs from home. Races of seven furlongs start on a spur which joins the main circuit at a tangent after two furlongs.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part usually in three races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

We are incredibly honoured that through the generosity of everyone who has been associated with this event, we have now raised over a staggering £10.5 million through our partnership with York Racecourse, 90% of which has gone to Macmillan Cancer Support, enabling Macmillan to be there for people living with cancer in Yorkshire. The remaining 10% goes to several other local charities such as York Against Cancer, St Leonard’s Hospice, Racing Welfare and the Injured Jockeys Fund.
That fantastic achievement has only been possible because of the continued support of the Racecourse Committee, William Derby, everyone at York Racecourse, and the countless racegoers who have been such avid supporters
of Macmillan. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you who joined us today, by being here you are making a significant difference to people living with cancer. We appreciate every donation or bid on our amazing auction, thank you for supporting Macmillan so generously.
There are over 216,000 people living with cancer in Yorkshire and the Humber. We estimate this will rise to more than 308,000 by 2030, and one in two of us can expect to receive a cancer diagnosis during our lifetime. Your support really has never been more important.
I very much look forward to joining you for this year’s event and I’d like to offer my thanks for your continued support so we can do whatever it takes to give people the support they need.

I am taking part in the Charity Race as I was ready for a challenge, and having seen the impact fundraising towards Macmillan can have to those affected by cancer it is both immense and rewarding to say you have contributed. Being able to experience race riding, especially here at York, is also a bucket list experience! I am unconditionally thankful to all my family and friends who have supported me along the way, every single one of my sponsors, and the team at Walford Racing who have been nothing but helpful in my preparations towards the race.

I applied for the race as a personal challenge and once in a lifetime experience but, since I started fundraising, I have realised it’s so much more than that. Many people have shared their stories with me about how Macmillan have helped them or their families through cancer journeys and I have learned to be much more grateful for my health and fitness. It’s been a truly humbling experience and a lot more physically challenging than I anticipated! I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to ride in this race for such a great cause. I can’t wait to be on the other side of the rail!

To have the opportunity to ride at such an iconic racecourse has been a dream for a long time, and to do it raising money for such an important charity makes it extra special. Getting here has not only been a fundraising challenge, but a personal one too, and a big thank you must go to everyone who has donated along the way, to our sponsors and connections of the horses kindly provided for this event.

I have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity from so many people since I was accepted into this race, during my fund raising, and during my training. It really does show just how much Macmillan means to people and how far-reaching their expertise is. It is a true honour to ride as such a prestigeous racecourse and represent Macmillan, knowing that our contribution will help many people during their treatment against cancer. Huge thanks go to Rebecca Menzies, Gerry McGladery and all the yard team that made this possible.

I was given this name by parents knee deep in racing. When I learned of the Macmillan race I saw an incredible cause and an opportunity to embrace that name for a small moment. Macmillan are to be cherished and to aid them in their outstanding work has been an honour and to get the opportunity to race in aid of them has just been a bonus. One of the most challenging things I have ever done and one of the most rewarding. I think it may well have changed my life.

What a privilege to make it to raceday. After breaking my arm in January of this year, it has been an even tougher challenge to get the fundraising and myself back fit enough to ride. Cancer has touched the lives of many around me and I feel incredibly fortunate to be raising funds for a charity that is working to make a big difference locally at York Hospital as well as nationally.

I’m riding this race in memory of two friends who have lost their lives to cancer in the past couple of years - Meriel Bertie & Ian Gould. Both came into my life through horses and became lifelong friends. This race would be something they would be so excited to be a part of. I also received chemotherapy at St James as a child and experienced the toll cancer takes on patients and their families. I came through the other side, so being given the chance to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan is something I am completely behind. All while getting to achieve a lifetime ambition of riding at the beautiful York Racecourse. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get here - I hope I can make it worthwhile.

I’m taking part in this challenge because it’s a great honour to be involved in such a meaningful event, and also to give back to a wonderful charity. I’m doing this in memory of my dear friend Jinny Henfrey, who sadly lost her battle with liver cancer last July. Jinny was a cherished friend for many years and had an infectious personality that lit up every room. I had the privilege of riding her first-ever winner as a point to point trainer back in 2007. Today, I hope to finish in front as a tribute to her memory.

I love riding with the RoR team and as a support rider with the Household Cavalry, both help me with what will be my third charity race within 12 months. Today feels my most exciting, challenging and meaningful one yet. Macmillan Cancer Support is a cause close to my heart, as a family member is currently battling against it. I’m determined to raise as much as possible to support those affected and to contribute to efforts that help prevent it and I’m incredibly grateful for the generous support of family and friends.

As evidence of the physical commitment given to this challenge by all the riders, unfortunately two of them picked up injuries near to raceday. For everyone’s safety, it is important that a suitable horse matched to the rider is available, and regretfully there was not one such for our third absentee.
Tabitha Bentley, Clinton Frank and Anya Potter-Firth will be missing at the Start itself but are very much part of the Class of 2025. They will join the group for the photos and celebrations. Their sponsors and supporters should feel proud that they helped a great cause.

Underway with handicap conditions. Such races are designed for close competition, so the handicapper is the independent assessor who rates horses on past performance seeking to get them crossing the line together, by handing out differing weights. The best on past performances will be the highest rated horse, being Telemark here and so will carry most weight.
So, pit your wits against the handicapper – if you need some help look for C (has won at York) or D (has won over this distance) against the horse’s name, look how Yanifer is one that carries both consonants.

KNAVESMIRE TIP
Modern Times looks interesting on his debut for Tim Easterby and, although he hasn’t been seen since January, he wasn’t beaten far at Newcastle off this mark and has to enter calculations. Dashing Darcey ran well in second off 1lb lower at Haydock and is noted, but HAVANA PUSEY is preferred. Trying this trip for the first time at Goodwood, she came home two and a quarter lengths clear of the second and there is every chance she has more to come over this distance.

Born Ruler seems likely to prove popular for Sir Mark Prescott after his Redcar fourth, but he is yet to win beyond 10 furlongs. Saligo Bay stayed on well to win over this distance at Haydock last month and he can go well off 4lb higher, but a chance is taken on SARATOGA GOLD. Third off his current rating over course and distance latest when running on again late in the race, Lauren Frost claims 5lb aboard the seven-year-old and he looks all set for a big run.

This season sees the latest staging of the famous race as part of a an extensive partnership with Leeds-based Sky Bet.
York Racecourse and its longstanding partner are committed to both cherishing and yet developing the track’s most famous race.
Today sees the next instalment of a series entitled the “Race To The Ebor” which includes four high-class staying contests, including an Irish race held at The Curragh. The four races nominated for the “Race To The Ebor” are:
Sky Bet Melrose Handicap (3YO only)
York - 1m 6f
Saturday 24 August 2024
Sky Bet Jorvik Handicap (4YO+)
York - 1m 4f
Wednesday 14 May 2025
Sky Bet Stakes (Handicap, 4YO+)
The Curragh - 1m 6f
Wednesday 4 June 2025
Sky Bet Ebor (Handicap 4YO+)
York - 1m 6f
Saturday 23 August 2025
Sky Bet Grand Cup (Listed, 4YO+)
York - 1m 6f
Saturday 14 June 2025
The winners of the four races above will be guaranteed a start position in the Sky Bet Ebor of 2025 provided they are entered and confirmed in the normal way. In a further boost to connections, if these horses run in the Sky Bet Ebor 2025 and fail to finish in the top eight places, they will have their entry fee to the race (worth £5,000) refunded, the top eight receive £5,000 or more in prize money.
In the event that any of the “Race To The Ebor” winners were set to carry the lowest weight in the Sky Bet Ebor, that horse’s weight would be raised to the equivalent of the lowest-weighted horse that was set to run through the established entry process.
To complement this initiative, York Racecourse invested in Britain’s largest set of starting stalls: able to accommodate 22 runners, an increase of two participants on the 2018 configuration.
After their respective successes in the Sky Bet Jorvik in May and the Sky Bet Stakes at the Curragh last week, Karl Burke’s Almosh’her and Joseph Patrick O’Brien’s Mr Percy have both won themselves a “golden ticket” to the Ebor. They join Tabletalk who landed the Sky Bet Melrose 2024 for Tom Clover.
Almosh’her and Clifford Lee (white noseband) land the 2025 Sky Bet Jorvik Stakes

Absurde kept on well when third to Illinois and Al Qareem over a furlong shorter in the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes at Chester last month and, given he meets the runner-up on better terms, he must have a good chance. ALSAKIB is already a C&D winner after beating Al Qareem here in July last year and, if he improves for his reappearance following a gelding operation when fourth in the Yorkshire Cup, then this race is comfortably within range El Cordobes is respected too.

TREAT OF THE DAY
Sky Bet Race to The Ebor Grand Cup
HOW MIGHT YOU SOLVE A BIG SPRINT HANDICAP?
CHURCHILL TYRES SUPPORTING MACMILLAN SPRINT
This afternoon’s Sprint Handicap looks a tricky betting proposition for even the most experienced of racegoers with a fiercely competitive field of 22 closely matched runners set to go to post. Whilst picking a lucky number or a meaningful name may produce the winner from time to time, a wiser approach would be to apply some straightforward methodology to finding the potential winner.
Narrowing down the field of 22 declared runners can prove easier than you think if you follow a few simple guidelines, to hopefully identify the winner of this and the other handicaps throughout the afternoon. Before we start, it is important to understand what a handicap is. Once a horse has raced three times, they are given an official rating (often referred to as a handicap mark) by the British Horseracing Authority. This provides a numerical guide to each horse’s level of ability. Ratings usually start at around 40 for a modest performer with the mighty Frankel finishing his career rated a lofty 140. The ranking works essentially as an ability scale, so each time a horse runs this rating is adjusted either upwards for a good performance or downwards for a weaker effort, so that it reflects the horse’s most recent form.
Each of these rating points are meant to reflect 1lb in weight, so looking at today’s race, Loom - rated 93 - is considered 1lb “better” than Marchogion who is rated 92. If these horses were to race carrying the same weight, then theoretically Loom should win as he is the better horse according to the handicapper. The handicap is therefore designed to create a level playing field and, in theory, if the handicapper was completely correct in his assessment, then all 22 runners would cross the line together. Of course, this is never the case so how do we separate those that might on a favourable mark ahead of the race?
Now we know what a handicap is and how it works, it is time to delve into the different factors to consider when searching for the winner. The winner is ultimately what we all want to find!
Don’t forget to ensure you keep an eye and an ear out for non-runners, there will be announcements over the PA system and the screens around the course will be updated with non-runner information, as they have to be in it to win it!
1) FORM
Here at York it often pays to side with horses in form and eight of the last ten winners of this race finished in the top five on their most recent start. Four of those had arrived on the back of a victory, and the likes of Double Rush, Maelstrom and Far Above Dream fit that bill, whilst Columnist and The Dragon King have a fair bit to prove arriving here on the back of poor runs.
2) THE DRAW
Where a horse is drawn in the stalls can be an important factor, particularly in a sprint, and this is perhaps one of the most debated topics in racing. However here at York, those drawn low to middle have often held the upper hand, with seven of the last nine winners of this exact race drawn in a single figure stall. The likes of Marchogion, Fast Track Harry and Northern Ticker could use this to their advantage.
3) DISTANCE
Having a runner who has already shown their liking for a particular trip can be invaluable, especially over this minimum trip where speed is necessary. There are four horses yet to win over the distance including Tuco Salamanca and Veblen Good
4) GROUND
The ground, and its effect on each horse, is one of the most important, but often overlooked, factors when it comes to making a selection. In simple terms, different horses run better on different types of surfaces – some prefer a lightning quick surface whilst others run best when the mud is flying. Maelstrom and Easy Peeler will enjoy a quicker surface whilst Northern Ticker previously won on a surface that was listed as soft. So, make sure to check the weather and the ground description.
5) YORK RECORD
“Horses for courses” is not a popular phrase by accident, especially here at York which has a knack at producing track specialists – three of the last eight winners of this contest had a previous run at York. Loom and King’s Call have both placed at the track previously, whilst Diligently is a previous course and distance winner.
6) CONCLUSION
Following these simple rules has helped to narrow down the shortlist. Maelstrom appeals most, arriving here on the back of three straight victories with conditions looking likely to suit. Course and distance winner Diligently must enter calculations with that valuable track experience, and Loom can round out the shortlist from a favourable draw following two good efforts here at York.

The richest race today is a sprint handicap. The best on past performance will be the highest rated horse and so will carry more weight than the lowest rated opponent; the respective rating of Northern Ticker and Easy Peeler sees them well over a stone and a half apart! DOUBLE RUSH is a sprinter on the upgrade and looks worth sticking with. The son of Blue Point won a competitive contest at Newmarket on his handicap debut and a 5lb rise looks fair given both the third and fourth have subsequently won. Marchogion also scored at Newmarket when beating American Style with a bit up his sleeve. He can confirm that form, while Clive Cox has won two of the last three renewals so Doncaster novice winner Fast Track Harry also enters calculations.

A unique week in 600 shared years:
Royal Ascot at York
For two racecourses that share nearly 600 years of history, perhaps two decades is not that long; for those amongst the more than 225,000 racegoers who attended that week, it might be that it feels a little longer. To help rekindle those memories, some images from a week that started under gloomy skies and ended in sweltering heat.

Reg Griffin (1929-2008)
Founder and organiser of Charity Day 1971-2008
Born in Liverpool on Valentine’s Day in 1929, the son of a railway guard, Reg left school seemingly destined for a career as a surveyor. However, having been captivated by walking the Grand National course aged just five, racing was always his first love and, after National Service, he began to convert dreams into reality.
Griffin joined Phil Bull at Timeform in 1957, following spells as secretary/assistant to Jack Fawcus at Middleham and Arthur Budgett at Whatcombe. Ten years later, he became managing director and, thirty-two years on from that, chairman, a position he retained until formally retiring in November, 2007.
In 1970, Noel Nettleship, then Doncaster racecourse manager, forwarded a letter to Phil Bull from a Mrs Irene Hunt, regional organiser for the National Society for Cancer Relief. Mrs Hunt, based in Sheffield, was aware that a charity race meeting had been organised at Ascot and was hoping someone might do the same in the North. Bull passed the letter to Reg- and, as the old saying goes, what followed became history.
Reg agreed to help, provided no one interfered. Having persuaded the Jockey Club to grant a fixture to a commercial firm for the first time (at Doncaster in ‘71), he then secured sponsorship totalling £60,000 for a sevenrace card. At the time, this was the richest one-day meeting ever staged in Britain and the first at which every event was broadcast live on national radio. It also received extensive television coverage on ITV, so today the wheel comes full circle.
watching
Come the day, the Queen, making her first appearance at Town Moor for fifteen years, watched her colt Charlton, named in honour of the World Cup winning football brothers, Bobby and Jack, land the featured William Hill Gold Trophy.
The following year, the Jockey Club refused to help, telling Reg that he must find an existing programme. Thanks to the late Charles Halifax (father of the current Earl, Ernie), the meeting was moved to a Saturday at York in mid-June, where it has remained ever since.
£10 million,
Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II made her first showing 6
Due to a whole host of loyal supporters, many of whom are present today, the race day, which has so far raised over £7.5 million, continues. Today's 8th race, run since 2011 in Reg's honour, was actually won in 2010 by a horse named after him - the name, Sir Reginald, what else!

This race is run over six furlongs, which is one of the shortest distances for thoroughbreds, so these horses will probably end up running over a mile next year when they are three-year-olds.
All are registered with the European Breeders’ Fund. This means that their sire (father) is based and registered in Europe with the EBF, which is a scheme to encourage the best in bloodstock.
Down to your choice of the two “ps”, pedigree or pin.

STELLAR SUNRISE missed the break at Goodwood on his introduction, but showed plenty of pace to make up the lost ground and finish a creditable second. The son of Space Blues will be a lot wiser today and this flat 6f will suit Andrew Balding’s charge Lyrical Song would likely have finished closer than fifth at Pontefract with a clear run and he could be in the mix, while the newcomers Tactical Formation and Yy Nation should be noted for any significant support.

KNAVESMIRE TIP
CLASSIC ENCOUNTER has finished placed in two strong Newmarket handicaps since he made a winning seasonal debut at Redcar in April and is a tough customer to deal with when he gets his ground. Handily drawn and with the likelihood of suitable underfoot conditions, the George Boughey-trained four-year-old is an attractive proposition. Obelix, the hat-trick seeking Garden Oasis and Capital Guarantee also hold solid credentials, while Pisanello is another must for the shortlist having won this corresponding race off 7lb higher 12 months ago

KNAVESMIRE TIP
Richard Fahey has two strong contenders in the form of MUSICAL TOUCH and Ziggy’s Condor With Oisin Orr booked for the latter, it’s safe to assume the son of Havana Grey might be the stable’s main hope However, Cian Horgan is young rider that is well worth his 5lb claim and Musical Touch can benefit from that handy asset from the saddle. The hat-trick seeking Ingleby Archie is another serious player, with his berth in stall 22 a persuasive factor Spirit Of Applause and Jonny Concrete are notable each-way options. MUSICAL TOUCH

A RACECOURSE FOR ALL
We want the racecourse to offer both a welcome and an enjoyable evening to all our racegoers and in delivering that we recognise that some may need additional assistance from us. We are also pleased to recognise the sunflower lanyard scheme.
The first thing to say, please just ask for help, if the team don’t have an instant answer, then they know someone who will. The team in the Racecourse Reception (behind the Ebor Stand) act as the link to the rest of the team, as needed.
FAQS
Is there accessible and blue badge parking?
Yes, I hope you found it. All our car parks have designated spaces near their front row. Can I get help with getting to/from the car park, taxi rank or shuttle buses?
Yes, there is a complimentary buggy service to all these points, ask a member of the team and they will radio to arrange your collection. Thank you for your patience as the buggies have a maximum of six passengers, and only one is wheelchair accessible and it’s a big site.
Can I bring a wheelchair?
Yes, if you need to; but we also offer complimentary hire, again from Racecourse Reception (see told you they were the hub). As we hope you’ll appreciate, there are only so many wheelchairs on site, if you need to reserve in advance then call 01904 620911. Considerately piloted mobility scooters are permitted.
Can I bring somebody to help?
Yes, we appreciate that will come in various forms, we hope our “companion comes free” scheme is a help, before your next visit check it out online at www.yorkracecourse.co.uk or just ask the team today.
Are there wheelchair viewing platforms?
Yes, in all stand side area and Stands - easiest thing to do is to ask our Stewards, though a map is available from, you guessed it, Racecourse Reception. Please use these in the spirit intended, with carers being prepared to step aside to allow space for those who need the view the most.
What about toilets and are they part of the Radar scheme?
Yes they are, all the permanent toilet blocks have a accessible capability, please ask for directions, the team nearby have keys, or check that map from you know where.
Are their wheelchair height food and drink counters?
Yes there are but not as many as we’d like, please ask a member of the team to assist you.
Wheelchair height betting?
Yes, there are some Tote counters set at a reduced height though a better plan might be to use the courier service that operates in areas such as the main Champagne Lawns; the Tote team themselves are always willing to help.
Can I bring my assistance dog?
Of course, as the tribute to Grady demonstrates, registered assistance dogs are most welcome.
There was one more thing?
Please ask, we are keen to help wherever we can, appreciating our racegoers may face a range of challenges.
