There is a wide variety of food and drink available before and during the races. Treat yourself at one of our dining and bar facilities.

Today is the first time that companies from the recycling industry have come together to sponsor every race at a meeting Our recycling-themed day is intended to publicise the work of recycling companies, and especially our Members, and the fantastic work they do to ensure paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, metals and other materials are recycled at state-of-the-art facilities in the UK and abroad.

I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of The Recycling Association and our Members to welcome you to today’s racing. Don’t forget to recycle where you can and best of luck.

HORSE WELFARE

“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider”. Like most sports racing carries risks, however, we work to make sure that no death or injury occurs, which could have been prevented. Here at Stratford Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care. At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action There is also a British Horseracing Authority Vet in attendance. During the race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating the injured jockeys. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy Please do not assume the worst.

HOW TO BET WITH A BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g. £1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

•Fewer than 3 runners all on to win

•3 or 4 runners 1/5 odds a place 1,2

•5 7 runners (inclusive) 1/4 odds a place 1,2

•8 or more runners 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

•Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

•Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

•Handicaps with 22 or more runners 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

RACE SUMMARY:

Largely consistent on the Flat, DANCING HARRY is appealing now switched to hurdles. He is making his debut in this sphere at a very realistic level and should go close provided his jumping passes the test. It’s A Good Name was a decisive winner on his latest start in France and looks dangerous despite the penalty, while Donaire and Parramount both showed more than enough in bumpers to make them of interest.

“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider”. Like most sports racing carries risks, however, we work to make sure that no death or injury occurs, which could have been prevented.

Here at Stratford Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action There is also a British Horseracing Authority Vet in attendance

During the race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating the injured jockeys.

It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.
