R E D C A R RAC E PRO G R A M M E T WO YE AR OL D TRO P H Y DAY S AT U R DAY 1S T OC TO BE R P R I C E £2 .0 0
A very warm welcome to Redcar’s richest race meeting of the season.
We’ve got a bumper day of racing ahead today with eight competitive races on the card. We’d like to thank the owners and trainers for their support today and hope you enjoy your day at the races.
First run in 1989, the Class 1 William Hill Two Year Old Trophy offers prize money of £150,000 and is one of a pair of Listed races on the card. Today’s race meeting sees the twentieth running of Listed Racing TV EBF Stallions Guisborough Stakes worth £47,000, and The Racing TV Straight-Mile Series Final. This £45,000 Handicap contest is the culmination of a series of 8 qualifying races held at Redcar throughout the summer over the straight mile.
We’d like to thank our sponsors William Hill, the European Breeders’ Fund, Racing TV, and Market Cross Jewellers for their support of today’s race meeting.
We hope that you all enjoy your day out at the races today and hopefully back some winners.
Good luck!

The key below appears on all racing pages.
Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance
Official BHA Rating The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed.
Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
HOW TO UNDERSTAND BETTING & FORM
Having a flutter is part of the fun of a day at the races.
P I C K YO U R W I NN ER
Many people select a horse based on its name or jockey colours whilst others go to the Parade Ring and pick their favourite looking horses. Alternatively, you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.
W H E R E TO P L AC EYO U R BE T
You can place a bet in the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookies’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection. Alternatively, you can place a bet at one of the many totepool betting points all around the racecourse or at the totesport betting shop on the ground floor of the Petch Stand, which is identical to a high street betting shop.
P L AC E YO U R BE T!
Decide how much you want to stake and what type of bet you would like to place. Then cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet. Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race has started. Keep your bet receipt safe as you will need this to collect your winnings. Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’. Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a Stewards’ enquiry’.
