SUNDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER 2025
Good afternoon and welcome back to Plumpton for our 2025/26 Season with the
We trust you have all had a good Summer and looking forward to returning back to Plumpton, a course that is at the Heart Of The Community.
Over the summer, we’ve been busy here at Plumpton making a number of important improvements. The most notable is the revamp of the weighing room, which now provides modern, high-quality facilities for jockeys and key racing personnel, ensuring their needs are fully met on raceday. In addition, we have significantly expanded the onsite reservoir, which is now seven times larger than the previous one and enables us to collect and store grey water between November and March. This will play a vital role in supporting our long-term sustainability and water management efforts.
These upgrades reflect the ongoing commitment and investment from our owner, who continues to support the development of Plumpton both as a racing venue and as a forward-thinking organisation. We are proud of the progress made and look forward to seeing the positive impact these changes will bring in the seasons ahead.
Today we have 45 runners going to post over 6 races with £59,673 of prize-money on offer. Our feature on the track today is our fourth race, the £23,825, The Friends and Family Remembering Norman Sharpe Handicap Hurdle which was won by Enthused last year beating Carrigeen Kampa. This year’s renewal promises to be highly competitive, and we extend our best wishes to all the horses and connections not only in this race, but across the entire day’s card.
I would like to thank our Partners; Southern Cranes and Access Ltd, BetGoodwin and our new caterers Kalm Kitchen for their tremendous support for the 2025/26 Season, along with today’s sponsors, Secure My Future (SMF), Friends & Family of Martin Quinn, Weatherbys, Friends and Family of Norman Sharpe and Friends and Family of Mary & Barry Faulkner. We wish you all have a tremendous day.
It is a busy day, and both of our enclosures are open, with all Family Entertainment located in the Centre Course so all ticket types have access. Entertainment will include a thrilling wall trampoline stunt show – with the chance to try it yourself! Dive into fun with Nerf Battles, Zorb Balls, and a games room. Or why not try your hand at being a jockey yourself on one of our Equicizers (Grandstand & Paddock tickets only). There is plenty to keep the whole family entertained, with activities for all ages, plus an array of food and beverage options.
Looking ahead, we have five racedays before Christmas, so be sure to book early to secure our best-priced tickets. The festive fixtures are always in high demand, and if you’re considering hospitality on either Sunday 1st December or Sunday 15th December, we strongly recommend contacting our team now to avoid disappointment.
For the first time, we’re also offering Christmas Party Nights throughout early December. To find out more and reserve your place, please visit www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk.
Have a great day at Plumpton, Heart Of The Community.
Best wishes,
Craig Staddon Chief Executive

Bit - A piece of metal that sits in the horse’s mouth and is attached to the bridle and reins.

Bridle - A piece of tack that fits over a horse’s head and to which the bit and reins are attached.
Bumper - Also known as a National Hunt Flat race, this race has no obstacles. Used as a way to give horses race experience before tackling hurdles and fences.
Chase - A race run over fences.
Cheekpieces - A form of headgear which consists of pieces of sheepskin placed on either side of the bridle and performs a similar job as blinkers in helping the horse to concentrate.
Clerk of the course - The person responsible for the overall management of a racecourse on a raceday.
Fences - The type of obstacle jumped during a chase race.

Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing.
Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey.
Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages.
Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race.
Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing.
Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race.
Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race.
Weighed in - Every horse in a race has to carry a certain amount of weight. To ensure it does, all jockeys must weight in/out both before and after a race. The ‘weighed in’ announcement made after the race means the result stands.

The Dark Edge has the stamina needed for this trip having won over further at Warwick in March and he can go well. Stamina Chope scored over C&D in 2023 off 9lb higher and deserves serious consideration, but THE WISE TRAVELLER gets the nod. With three distance wins plus one over further to his name, the nine-year-old merits plenty of respect on his return to action.
totewin: The Wise Traveller
toteeachway: The Dark Edge
2 The recent Fontwell third Everest has a decent chance despite being put up 1lb by the handicapper. Character Testing looks more likely to handle the quicker ground than some and he can go well, but LADY CARO is preferred. Third at Stratford earlier in the month when sent off at 25/1 on her first start since April, she won over C&D in March off 3lb lower and may have more to offer.
totewin: Lady Caro
toteeachway: Everest
3 If KAJIKIA can transfer his best bumper form to hurdles, he could prove hard to beat. A winner at Ascot last November and third in a bumper here in April, the step up in trip looks just what he needs and he could prove to be a class above. Point-to-point fourth Whenthemusicstops is interesting ahead of his hurdling bow and he could pick up second, leaving Yarborough to follow them home.
totewin: Kajikia
toteeachway: Whenthemusicstops
4 Howth was a wide-margin winner at Newton Abbot in July before returning to the same venue and defying a double penalty when returned to novice company. The six-year-old may well have more to offer, but a chance is taken with NAP HAND. The five-year-old tasted defeat when sent off a warm order at Market Rasen but he remains capable of improvement and is worth another chance. Renoir completes the shortlist.
totewin: Nap Hand
toteeachway: Howth
5 ON THE GO ran with promise on his final outing of last season when fourth on handicap debut at Newcastle and Charlie Longsdon’s gelding has every chance of stepping forward, especially after a six-month break. No Guarantee has been knocking on the door recently and is likely to enter calculations, while others for the shortlist include Jubilee Gold and Eliza Dolittle.
totewin: On The Go
toteeachway: No Guarantee
6 MASKED MISTRESS stepped forward from her debut when scoring at Uttoxeter in July and the daughter of Masked Marvel appears to have been found an excellent opportunity to back that performance up. Nelrose is better judged on her first run when third at Worcester and that form entitles her to be in the mix, while newcomer Arms Park appeals most of the remainder.
totewin: Masked Mistress
toteeachway: Nelrose

At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Plumpton Racecourse’s facilities provide an accessible environment for all our racegoers, including those with young children. We are happy to make alternative arrangements if necessary; if you have any queries or require assistance please phone 01273 890383, visit the Racecourse Office or ask any member of staff and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.
