WELCOME

Welcome to the Charlotte Savill Memorial Raceday

Our fourth fixture of the season and I would like to welcome you to The Charlotte Savill Memorial Raceday. This is a particularly poignant occasion, as our Chairman’s 22-year-old daughter passed away last year from a rare, aggressive form of liver cancer called Fibrolamellar which randomly attacks young people. Because it is so rare, getting government funding is very difficult and pharmaceutical companies do not prioritise research into rare cancers, so it is left to private fundraising and donations to assist the researchers in finding a cure. Peter has set up the Charlotte Savill Foundation to raise money to fight Fibrolamellar and is dedicating this day to both raise awareness of Fibrolamellar and raising funds for Research since there is currently no cure for Fibrolamellar.

The Final Fence Restaurant will host over 300 guests, including around 80 visitors from Ireland, where Charlotte grew up. The venue will feature the main auction with 9 exceptional items and 16 raffle prizes. Guests can also take part in a silent auction, located at The Final Fence Restaurant, offering 35 fantastic experiences to bid on. All racegoers can take part by visiting the Restaurant after 1pm. For those feeling lucky, the Diamond Dip offers the chance to win a stunning 3-carat diamond and includes a £500 voucher for bespoke work to set the diamond adding an extra touch of sparkle to the day’s celebrations, all in support of a wonderful cause.

At 1.30pm, Tom Savill, Charlotte’s brother, completes his 2,400 km charity bike ride from Morocco to Plumpton, alongside his best friend Joe. Beginning on 26th October, the ride honoured a promise Tom made to Charlotte when she was diagnosed to take on a challenge in her name. They will arrive on the racecourse after the second race, encapsulating a powerful moment of determination, love, and commitment to raising awareness and funds for Fibrolamellar Liver Cancer. Please make sure to join us in welcoming and congratulating them on this incredible achievement.

Our goal is to raise £250,000 today, and we kindly ask everyone to give as generously as they can to support this truly worthy cause.

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 32 volunteers who have generously given their time to support today’s event. Joining us from Plumpton College and the local Plumpton Green community, they will play an invaluable role in helping to administer donations and assist guests throughout the day. Their enthusiasm and dedication will make a real difference, and we are truly grateful for their contribution.

Today we have 49 runners going to post over 7 races with £110,349 of prize-money on offer. Our feature on the track today is our fourth race worth £43,250, The Old Gold Racing Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 2), which promises to be highly competitive, and we extend our best wishes to all the horses and connections not only in this race, but across the entire day’s card.

I would like to thank today’s sponsors, The Gredley Charitable Trust, BPL, ARC, Old Gold Racing, BetGoodwin and Woburn Safari Park along with our Partners; Southern Cranes and Access Ltd, BetGoodwin and Kalm Kitchen for their tremendous support for the 2025/26 Season.

This December, we’re hosting two festive raceday fixtures; Advent Opener Raceday, 1st December and Christmas Jumper Raceday, 15th December, both of which are always hugely popular. If you’re considering hospitality for Monday, 1st December, we highly recommend getting in touch with our team as soon as possible to avoid disappointment our Monday, 15th December fixture is already sold out. Gates will open at 10:35 am, and we look forward to welcoming you all here in December. Tickets start from £19 and can be purchased online at www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk.

Remember, all racegoers can take part in the silent auction by visiting the Final Fence Restaurant after 1pm.

Have a great day. Best wishes

Bridle - A piece of tack that fits over a horse’s head and to which the bit and reins are attached.

Bumper - Also known as a National Hunt Flat race, this race has no obstacles. Used as a way to give horses race experience before tackling hurdles and fences.

Chase - A race run over fences.

Cheekpieces - A form of headgear which consists of pieces of sheepskin placed on either side of the bridle and performs a similar job as blinkers in helping the horse to concentrate.

Clerk of the course - The person responsible for the overall management of a racecourse on a raceday.

Hurdles - The obstacles jumped during a hurdle race. They are smaller than fences and therefore take less jumping. Sometimes referred to as flights.

Length - The length of a horse from its nose to the start of its tail, and a measurement used to describe the distances between horses at the finish line

Maiden - A horse who has yet to win a race.

Neck - A measurement used to describe a winning margin in a close finish.

Pulled up - A horse who is brought to a halt during a race by its jockey.

Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing.

Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey.

Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages.

Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race.

Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing.

Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race.

Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race.

El Galactico confirmed the promise of his debut second when accounting for an inform opponent at Uttoxeter and the time he has been given off since will have helped him strengthen further. Fountains Blenhein ran out a bloodless winner at Fontwell but they have to concede 7lb to CALVINO, who was denied by a shock scorer at Newton Abbot and can atone on his second attempt at hurdles. Manigod showed ability on the level in France and has been bought for 40,000 euros.

totewin: Calvino

toteeachway: El Galactico

Paul Nicholls and Patrick Mullins strike up a formidable partnership with IT’S A BREEZE. The 120,000-euro half-brother to classy mare Impervious didn’t really build on a decent hurdling debut, but starts handicap life off a mark of just 103 and can make the most of it. Clear Storm has made the frame on her last five completed outings and should be thereabouts again, although most feared is the consistent Tropical Speed, even though he has been on the go all year. Washington Singer is worth a look too.

totewin: It’s A Breeze

toteeachway: Tropical Speed

Bond Broker is perhaps flattered by his form figures because although he has finished second on all three starts since completing a hat-trick, he has been soundly beaten on each occasion. He still warrants consideration but of more interest is SIAM PARK, who may have needed the run when fading into third at Newton Abbot and is expected to see his race out a lot better. No Risk With Lou showed more when dropped to this level at Huntingdon, while Alto Alto always commands attention at this circuit.

totewin: Siam Park

toteeachway: Bond Broker

Wind surgery appears to have been the making of Nardaran because he returned with a facile success here before following up at Sandown. The extra half-mile asks a sterner question of him, as does his penalty, so the vote goes to LISTENTOYOURHEART, who has kept good company since winning a Listed mares’ novices’ hurdle and kept on for fourth in the Welsh Champion Hurdle. Goblet Of Fire is still fairly treated in this sphere and has to be taken seriously.

totewin: Listentoyourheart

toteeachway: Goblet Of Fire

5 FINAL STRAW made a successful beginning to his handicap career at Kempton a week ago, handling the step up to an extended 3m with aplomb. As that came in a conditionals’ event, he escapes a penalty and his amateur rider takes 7lb off his back. It will be a surprise if he is beaten, although I Look How I Look has occupied the runner-up berth a couple of times and could be a threat if ready to roll following an absence. Annie Nail might do better for the return to hurdles. totewin: Final Straw

toteeachway: I Look How I Look

BALLYNAHEER arrives at the top of his game, making the top two in each of his last four appearances and justifying favouritism with plenty up his sleeve at Warwick recently. A further 6lb rise isn’t unduly harsh and he is worth sticking with, although Unspeakable did just deny him at Hereford last month and is 5lb better off. Christian Williams’ seven-year- old does, however, have a subsequent poor display over hurdles to bounce back from. One Last Glance will also be happier back over the larger obstacles.

totewin: Ballynaheer

toteeachway: Unspeakable

HILL STATION so nearly supplemented a Stratford triumph at Fontwell and there was no certainly no disgrace in that display, especially considering the winner has gone in again twice subsequently. With that in mind, a 3lb rise might be lenient and Luke Scott gets on well with him. Zafaan has made the frame on his last couple of outings and shouldn’t be far away, with Belcamo’s Huntingdon second earning him a spot on the shortlist too. The juvenile Premier is very interesting on his handicap hurdle debut.

totewin: Hill Station toteeachway: Premier
