1 1 It was another enthralling day of racing here at Newton Abbot to get the week off to a great start.
In the opener, market favourite Tip Top Tonto looked sure to justify his short price when going clear on the home turn to fall two hurdles out. The race was won by one of the bigger priced horses Haloa Mail. The mare was keen throughout and led on the run in after the last to prevail by a nose on the line. Fortunate Fred probably felt slightly unfortunate when the result of the photo finish was called. Trainer Chris Down saw his gelding Fat Sam notch up a comfortable success, winning by thirteen lengths to L’Air Du Vent. The eight-year-old was prominent and was never in any danger of defeat. That result made him the first winning favourite of the day. It was a resounding victory in the third race of the day with 15/2 shot Chapmanshype winning by 24 lengths for trainer Jaimie Snowden. The

eight-year-old gelding travelled strongly throughout 3 and put in an impressive round of jumping. He led on the home turn and soon went clear when approaching the final two hurdles. Al Roc the favourite was the nearest challenger, but he was left far behind. Tulin trailed in a poor third. It was a much closer finish in the following race with the Peter Bowen-trained Shareef Star fending off the danger from Steady The Ship to win by a length and three quarters. The trainer’s son James was on board
